So how's 4.4.4 - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anything significantly different about the user experience with 4.4.4 vs 4.4 for the Maxx?
Any issues loading up on the Maxx?
Is root preserved with survival mode? Any issues with xposed?
Is it worth upgrading?

Instead of creating new threads, you should probably visit the main thread which answers all of those questions

I figured it would be a good idea to start a new thread now that all the initial excitement has subsided and people could formulate a complete response about their experience as a whole.

Or join in on the thread that has answered these questions numerous times. But hey whatever works for you

My opinion: if you're rooted/WP off.....don't update. There's nothing about this update that makes it worth losing WP off. Yeah its cool that were up to date with nexus but 4.4 rooted beats the update to me.

Well... it's the same as 4.4, there's no or little visual changes, but, at least ART is much stable compared to 4.4...

I'm of the same mind. No one has said anything compelling enough about 4.4.4 to make me give up root & wp off.
I might feel differently if there was a working WiFi tether hack, but that only matters because I'm unlimited data.
I'd said for 8 months Droid Maxx was just about perfect and didn't need root to be a great device, until they broke FoxFi functionality.
Still, faster ART and reports of improved battery life are airways tempting. I used to get an easy 36 hours on this phone, for months I'm lucky if I get 18 hours.

Im not rooted yet, I just wanna make sure I know what Im going to do about root and later install soak test.
Things in this phone seems to be difficult.

I received an OTA to 4.4.4 this morning! Battery is definitely holding better than on 4.4 and a camera works better than before.

Works great...can't really tell yet if battery life is better..but "Android System" is certainly reported as using a much lower percentage than before the update...
No lag or stuttering to be seen (though never really had any before either)...
Overall solid update, but almost everything is under the hood type stuff..so if you're happy with current battery life, and really need w/p off...then you may want to hold out...

My phone is using about half as much battery as it was in sleep.
I have a total of 5 email accounts syncing (don't ask), plus miscellaneous other **** (Facebook, Twitter, etc), and I use about 1.8% per hour.

Jumping from a DX2 to a RAZR HD, some need to knows....

In regards to posting on the xda site I'm new, but I've been surfing the site and its various forums for quite some time. As stated in my topic title, I've had the Droid X2 ever since it first launched and I'll be making my move into the Razr HD this weekend.
I've been closely watching the Razr HD forum and all of it's topics and have gathered questions that I'd like answered as a whole since some of them weren't so clear through some of the answers provided.
1.) It's nice to see safestrap out for this device, but how long should I expect to wait before the initial ROMs start rolling in?
I've compiled a list of problems that people have come across with this device and was wondering if people as a whole were experiencing the same issues (I am on Verizon if that makes any difference between any version variants of the Razr HD)
1.) Some have listed their phones are showing up as 1500 mAh through the Battery Monitor app (battery should be 2530 mAh) is this an error for some or an actual flaw?
2.) Some have listed that their notification light isn't working or stops working after they transfer their stuff over from Google (Common problem? and/or is there a fix?)
3.) Is everyone's Camera flushed perfectly into the phone or sticking out?
4.) How common is the internal call volume and external speaker problem affecting some? I heard this phone has a great external speaker (my dx2 doesn't!)
5.) Battery Life! Hows everyone's battery holding up and what kind of user are you? Trying to get an idea of what to expect since I'm an above average user and will do lots with this phone.
Thank you all in advance for all the input, I'm just trying to make sure I know what to expect when jumping to this device.
My job doesn't have an actual demo unit out to play around with so I'm screwed on seeing this phone up close =/
Regarding the app called Battery Monitor Widget by 3C, it also showed 1500mah for my Maxx HD.
I believe it to be false stats from the app as my phone actually last longer than what appears to be.
I love my Maxx HD, however I have one complaint. In idle state, my Maxx HD would lose around 6-7% in 10 hours compare to my Xperia x10 with
WolfBreak custom rom which would only lose 4%. I guess it's because I haven't disable all the bloatware yet.
P.S. Just to clarified, if both phone plays the exact same 20min video thru wifi only - Maxx HD would only lose 4% while my Xperia x10 would lose 10%.

1. ROMs - There is already one out, and one in the works for the developer edition. I would say it shouldnt take more than a couple more months (at the longest to see some ported over to or made for the regular devices.)
1. Yea that app shows incorrect battery life for some but it is a free app and I wouldn't put much emphasis on it. There is no way to get the battery life people are reporting on a 1500 battery.
2. Hmm sounds like an isolated problem. Mine works fine. (don't know much on the subject right now)
3. Camera is flush.
4. The volume for me is loud. Almost too loud with notifications. I also came from a X2 and the phone call sound is a major improvement for me.
5. I have the Razr HD Developer edition. I would say i am a moderate (maybe slightly heavy user) and i have no problem getting a good 24 hours out of it. (sometimes a couple less sometimes a couple more.)
Thanks for the feedback man, this is assuring. I want to have a phone that will last out of my own usage and even through some dev support from roms. I felt somewhat alone when it came to the development for the X2 seeing as very few roms came out for it. (I only used eclipse, cm, then I went completely stock root these last few months) the Razr HD just has a complete build and will receive jb so I'm satisfied on that alone.

If you're buying the phone off contract, I'd go with the developer. If you are using an upgrade, the Maxx is worth the extra bit of coin. It's the same hardware, just better battery life.

yep same charge and the brightness was pretty high too about 80% or so, I usually don't use auto brightness lol... oh and that was from maybe my 3rd or 4th day of having it so the battery wasn't "broken in" yet either
edit: also notice how the light use at the beginning pretty much flatlines the battery drain, its pretty good at low power idle

Posting this here just to fill everyone in on Moto's latest decision.
Without a time estimation other than the 'it will get it', I'd say we're looking at June/July or later.

Ha, dude, I hear ya. I've had the exact same problem. Only phone I got that was well supported was teh original Motorola Droid. Since then, it was Droid Charge, which was ignored by everything, HTC Rezound, which had decent enough support, but nothing great, and now this thing. I just can't get a break.
Still waiting for a new OTA. Have been switched back to the Evo Shift for more than a month now. I may just go with a Galaxy Note 2.

You're going to get a different answer from everyone who responds. I'm really happy with it for the most part, except that Google + and Chrome will randomly start running really aggressively in the background and killing my battery. It doesn't happen often, and a reboot seems to fix it, but it's definitely a problem I've noticed.

Yeah, at least get a birds' eye view of owners who has experience. Did your problem occur after 4.4.2 update? and is it on a custom rom? I don't wanna venture into another fiasco wherein I didn't do my research properly and get a lot of problems with the phone. At least getting some insights from other people will solidify my stand whether or not I will get it.

I've only noticed it since the 4.4.2 update, and I'm just running stock rooted. Maybe it's just me though because I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue. In any case, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the phone. It's still the best device I've ever owned.
I personally think 4.4.2 ruined the battery
Team Nexus 5 sucks
^really bad? Like S3 rooted battery problem bad?
Never owned an s3 but this battery life is bad because I rely on it in my business. I literally have to carry a backup phone since the nexus 5 's battery is non removable
Team Nexus 5 sucks
They'll release a fix soon though, this problem won't be overlooked by Google by the looks of it. A lot of people are complaining on Product forums at Google.
They will but it's taking so long. I've had problems with this phone since early November
Yeah, can I get away with it by NOT installing 4.4.2 and just install 4.4.1? since 4.4.2 has problems?
I think you'll find the majority of users are happy with their N5s. I find the phone to be a superb device. I'm stock unrooted 4.4.2 and have no issues whatsoever. Battery life is perfectly acceptable, I regularly go 2 days with 3½ hours SOT a charge, obviously more SOT if using the device more heavily in a shorter time frame.
If you read available threads you should be able to find all the info you want, and you'll see dicecuber is always complaining about how the N5 sucks and how much better Galaxy devices are. Most of us still can't figure out why he kept the N5.

Great phone, well worth the $350. No lag whatsoever and just buttery smooth. If u like pure android without laggy touch wiz or sense, then this is the phone for u. Camera is very decent, not the best but very acceptable. Battery life seems a little worse on 4.4.2 but still able to get a days use out of it. I have a screenshot of my n5 going 5 days and 6 hrs off the charger, with light usage of course.
Overall its a great phone. For that price, it can't be beat.

Half the fun of owning a phone these days is complaining about short battery life on xda. The other half is trying to fix it. You can install all sorts of utility apps, flash custom roms and kernels, tweak this and that, and then go on one of the dedicated threads and talk all about it. It becomes like a hobby.
That being said, I agree that there will be better battery life on the next KitKat. In the meantime, get an N5 and join in the fun! The phone is awesome.

That's a perfect fix if you don't use either of those apps. If you do, not so much. I'm looking into options to ditch Chrome, and after finding Dolphin to be really fast but crash-tastic as ever, Firefox seems to be working out pretty well. It might be a decent Chrome replacement.
As far as Google+, I'd rather not disable it because I use the Photos app quite a bit. If worse comes to worse, I might have to do it though.

Hi all
I picked up a 5 month old nexus 5 yesterday running 5.0.1 stock, its a wonderful very fast phone, I'm coming from a moto g 2013 so the speed bump is noticeable.
So far everything seems to be working really well, i cant get a GPS lock inside a building but it works fine outside (the moto g easily got a fix inside) but who need GPS indoors anyway
I'm going to try out the phone for the next week or 2 and see how it performs, I've read battery life can be disappointing but it was factory reset yesterday and battery life seems fine so far, i guess ill have to give it a few more cycles to be fair.
I also use GPS/maps a fair bit for my work, on the moto, google maps used very little battery , any experiences anyone with battery life and GPS on the nexus ?
One further question, do you think the upcoming 5.0.2 update will improve the battery life or is 5.0.1 what i can best expect ? also any ideas when the official 5.0.2 update is pushed to my phone (its in the uk).
Thanks
Michael

http://www.android.gs/android-5-0-2...5-nexus-7-and-nexus-10-might-not-come-at-all/ and I think that should be like this. I have Nexus 7 2012 and I haven't noticed any difference beetwen 5.0 and 5.0.2. So, we are more expecting 5.1 actually.
Regards, Zagor

5.0.2 was only a fix or two, mainly for the Nexus 7. Highly unlikely Google will push 5.0.2 factory images/OTA for other devices since it's almost pointless and would be a waste of bandwidth. Custom ROMs have merged 5.0.2 in anyways since it was no big deal.

LOL
Really find it hard to decide between this and my old moto g,
The nexus is blazing fast etc etc, but the moto felt just right in the hand and it was relatively cheap so i don't mind it being thrown around a bit.

Yea. I was very happy when there was SE not just Sony. But after, when their UI design gone to look like anime cartoon, no thanks.

[REQ]Motorola Android 6.0 Soak Test

Hi. Me and the other developers have been trying to get our hands on the new Android 6.0 boot.img. If anyone is running the soak test people please PM me.
Thanks
Shawn
Did they actually start the soak test, or is it still the test drive?
Does it benefit you that much to have a pre release version? If you want to make roms, why wouldn't you wait until the final version of the software is released? I know that, usually, a soak is very similar to a final release (and who knows with these "test drives"), but not always. And since the 5.0 botched release caused several problems, why wouldn't you wait?
None of us got it. Unless the few people who beta-tested it not (soak tested) it.
Its against NDA so no one will bother

Hard to believe that no one was able to post an anonymous review of some sort..

Could be that no one has it. Remember it is a small test group that got it. Soak is not live yet (maybe). Plus people agreed to be quiet about it so even if we got an invite it wont be public. Either way we all will have fun in a few weeks

Its going to be stock android 6 + moto assist, and android 6 is a refinement of the already stable android 5.1.
Want to know what it will be like? Watch this and imagine there is a moto assist app in the app drawer

LOL. Thanks. Already familiar with MM from my N6, more curious about the specifics of MM on the MXPE test drive, such as stability, doze improvements on our hardware, completeness, etc

Please just STFU and stop producing hot air if you have not much clue. I marked in red and bold what the only thing is Shawn was asking for which is completely different to what you babble about.

THANK YOU...At least someone understood my request
I'm beginning to think the soak test was just a tease. I filed out the forms several weeks ago and I've seen nothing.

Well it was too prepare. They want to get a mostly stable version before they push it to the super soakers to make sure the 5.0 bricking disaster doesn't happen again. From what I have read we do NOT want them to rush things. Once it is safe the soakers will get it and then everyone. As long as it is within a month I do not mind if it means smooth and mostly bug free
I welcome the caution of Motorola. Or maybe they are already soak testing but the group members are so good they are keeping it on the DL

apparently they had a mess on their hands and they had to unlock their bootloaders and do all this stuff to fix their devices. Not sure all the details but I'm sure some users can testify to how messy it was.

You're talking about a different Motorola phone? Or 5.0 in general?

Basically, I forget where I read it but they had lots of issues at first. I would rather them get those worked out. We will know within a few weeks

I can restore if I soft brick. I'd rather play around with it. No different than flashing a beta rom.

I can confirm the 5.0 disaster ... It was Lollipop massacre ... It happened on the Moto G (First Gen), one of the first moto device to receive the lollipop update through Soak test ... the image was leaked and people started flashing them, there were some minor bugs in the image, and whenever people tried to get to stable kitkat, or stock Rom in order to get official update their phone got permanently bricked ...
There are major changes in the Bootloader during the major android updates, so it's best to take precautions and wait patiently till someone confirms a proper procedure .
I can confirm the soak test isn't fake.
Didn't want to share this whatever.
Added HD Calling
Added Wifi Calling
Added Band 12 support
Visual voicemail not built into the dialer app
