Need some insights..

I want to ask, I've been planning to buy N5 for quite some time. For people who own the device for quite some time now, how is it fairing especially after 4.4.2 update? Thanks for your insights.

You're going to get a different answer from everyone who responds. I'm really happy with it for the most part, except that Google + and Chrome will randomly start running really aggressively in the background and killing my battery. It doesn't happen often, and a reboot seems to fix it, but it's definitely a problem I've noticed.

Yeah, at least get a birds' eye view of owners who has experience. Did your problem occur after 4.4.2 update? and is it on a custom rom? I don't wanna venture into another fiasco wherein I didn't do my research properly and get a lot of problems with the phone. At least getting some insights from other people will solidify my stand whether or not I will get it.

I've only noticed it since the 4.4.2 update, and I'm just running stock rooted. Maybe it's just me though because I haven't seen anyone else mention this specific issue. In any case, it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the phone. It's still the best device I've ever owned.

Never owned an s3 but this battery life is bad because I rely on it in my business. I literally have to carry a backup phone since the nexus 5 's battery is non removable

I think you'll find the majority of users are happy with their N5s. I find the phone to be a superb device. I'm stock unrooted 4.4.2 and have no issues whatsoever. Battery life is perfectly acceptable, I regularly go 2 days with 3½ hours SOT a charge, obviously more SOT if using the device more heavily in a shorter time frame.
If you read available threads you should be able to find all the info you want, and you'll see dicecuber is always complaining about how the N5 sucks and how much better Galaxy devices are. Most of us still can't figure out why he kept the N5.

Great phone, well worth the $350. No lag whatsoever and just buttery smooth. If u like pure android without laggy touch wiz or sense, then this is the phone for u. Camera is very decent, not the best but very acceptable. Battery life seems a little worse on 4.4.2 but still able to get a days use out of it. I have a screenshot of my n5 going 5 days and 6 hrs off the charger, with light usage of course.
Overall its a great phone. For that price, it can't be beat.

Half the fun of owning a phone these days is complaining about short battery life on xda. The other half is trying to fix it. You can install all sorts of utility apps, flash custom roms and kernels, tweak this and that, and then go on one of the dedicated threads and talk all about it. It becomes like a hobby.
That being said, I agree that there will be better battery life on the next KitKat. In the meantime, get an N5 and join in the fun! The phone is awesome.

Great phone all around. Battery consistently makes it through 2 days and 1 night with normal usage for me.

The chrome and google plus issues are quite easy to fix to be honest.. just disable them

That's a perfect fix if you don't use either of those apps. If you do, not so much. I'm looking into options to ditch Chrome, and after finding Dolphin to be really fast but crash-tastic as ever, Firefox seems to be working out pretty well. It might be a decent Chrome replacement.
As far as Google+, I'd rather not disable it because I use the Photos app quite a bit. If worse comes to worse, I might have to do it though.

really bad battery performance

Hi,
I bought my Nexus a week ago. During the first day the battery life seemed to be ok but since 2 oder 3 days it is really bad.
I didn´t really use the phone today (checked some emails and used for 2 or 3 really short calls) and the battery is emtpy after 11 hours...
Phone is rooted stock rom (CF) 4.4.2 since the first day. Any ideas?

Need much more information to get an idea what you do with your phone and how its setup. What features are running and stuff like that.

And do yourself a favor and get Gsam from play store, as well as gsam root companion after, if you're rooted. It has much more detailed information. The stock battery usage screen says very little to help find an issue.
Also, read through some of the following thread...start on last page and go back a bit. Tonnes of good info and tips there. A better place to discuss issues as well.

Same story of mine, you are lucky enough that your phone battery empty after 11 hours in my case it was around 8 hrs its gone.
Nexus 5 not smart enough regarding its battery backup. It is very normal problem in smartphones but N5 performance is worst among them.
Go through this , may it will help you out as we both are in the same ship.

Sorry but that is not true. It's been proven time and again that the N5 is one of the more battery efficient phones to date. Just because you're having issues with it doesn't mean we all are, there are many things for you to try but complaining won't help.

i see this too often, but not as much on xda, more here in real life.

OP...there are threads about the possible battery issues with the N5 and how they can be fixed all over the N5 forum. Perhaps you could've checked those out first before opening a thread. However, I do agree with the assessment that it takes a bit more investigating on your part to figure out why you're having battery drain issues.
The picture you posted is just a microcosm of what things could also be draining your battery. Do you have apps running in the background? Are your apps syncing too frequently? Are Google apps running or syncing too often?
What fixed my drain issues was going into my Accounts settings and ticking only the Google apps I used on a regular basis (Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts) and unticking the others.

Seems just another post a question, then don't bother to return to see responses....or at least not comment on any of it...kinda thread. Lol

Hi, I didn't have any more issues so far. Right after creating this thread the issue disappeared without any changes except installing the battery app mentioned in the first reply (and maybe a reboot).

So how's 4.4.4

Anything significantly different about the user experience with 4.4.4 vs 4.4 for the Maxx?
Any issues loading up on the Maxx?
Is root preserved with survival mode? Any issues with xposed?
Is it worth upgrading?

Instead of creating new threads, you should probably visit the main thread which answers all of those questions

I figured it would be a good idea to start a new thread now that all the initial excitement has subsided and people could formulate a complete response about their experience as a whole.

My opinion: if you're rooted/WP off.....don't update. There's nothing about this update that makes it worth losing WP off. Yeah its cool that were up to date with nexus but 4.4 rooted beats the update to me.

Well... it's the same as 4.4, there's no or little visual changes, but, at least ART is much stable compared to 4.4...

I'm of the same mind. No one has said anything compelling enough about 4.4.4 to make me give up root & wp off.
I might feel differently if there was a working WiFi tether hack, but that only matters because I'm unlimited data.
I'd said for 8 months Droid Maxx was just about perfect and didn't need root to be a great device, until they broke FoxFi functionality.
Still, faster ART and reports of improved battery life are airways tempting. I used to get an easy 36 hours on this phone, for months I'm lucky if I get 18 hours.

Im not rooted yet, I just wanna make sure I know what Im going to do about root and later install soak test.
Things in this phone seems to be difficult.

I received an OTA to 4.4.4 this morning! Battery is definitely holding better than on 4.4 and a camera works better than before.

Works great...can't really tell yet if battery life is better..but "Android System" is certainly reported as using a much lower percentage than before the update...
No lag or stuttering to be seen (though never really had any before either)...
Overall solid update, but almost everything is under the hood type stuff..so if you're happy with current battery life, and really need w/p off...then you may want to hold out...

My phone is using about half as much battery as it was in sleep.
I have a total of 5 email accounts syncing (don't ask), plus miscellaneous other **** (Facebook, Twitter, etc), and I use about 1.8% per hour.

I made this thread to talk about the g pro 2 and shearing experience. until now this phone is the best phone I every had. its really great. I was using note 2 before I moved to LG and now I dont even think to go back to galaxy.
what I love about this phone especially after lollipop update, the battery life. YES! the battery life is amazing. it last for almost 2-3 days without charge!

there are some problem here and there which I wish they will be fix in the next update ( maybe next year lool)

How many hours of screen on time can you make on your GP2? I'm asking because when I installed the lollipop update on my D838 the battery lasted noticeably less than KitKat, so I had to downgrade. I hope LG fixes this battery drain with the next update.

Well, I guess I'm going to give lollipop a second try, but I hardly passed the 4-4,30 hours of screen on time on the 20c firmware. I love the new LG UI and how the phone is more snappy with 5.0, but I wish it lasted as much as 4.4

try to do hard restore before updating or even after updating. I updated it using LG program , have a look here

as I was having problem due to the root. And because I don't use the root a lot, I decided I don't want it any more. So my phone is clean of everything even the apps I installed them again. Also I want to point out there are some apps for some reasons they use a lot of battery even if they are closed. one of the apps I remember is NumberBook. when I was in KitKat the battery didn't last a day and when I tried to find the problem it came out its from the couple of apps NumberBook and another app. so I removed them and everything good.

Thanks for your advice, I just flashed 20c again and I will stick with it. I love this amazing phone!!

hey guys, i got d838, i live in Indonesia, just updated to 5.0.1 build number 20a. any of you feel that the phone somehow uses more RAM? btw i updated by using lg pc suite and restore failed update, since i cannot OTA because im rooted. and certain themes werent working well unless i deleted them from system first then installing again as normal APK.

yes it is. ART did its job. I get 1gb used memory after clearing all apps from background and restarting it. still 1.5gb of usable is more than enough

ah, so its not just me. i thought it was a botched update for me, since the pc suite i downloaded was for g3 (cannot find our model in their web).
btw what do you think of 20a update? i think its a hit and miss, the plug & pop are gone, lg life log are gone, we did not get the smart notice. the battery life seems a bit better though.

I m on 20b dont know about 20a. SP800 does its jobin battery department

I love this phone because of the price and screen size! You can't beat it.

Mate 9 : overheating and battery drain on 1st day

I Buy the phone 2 days ago on Amazon USA - yesterday arrived at night and has been an absolute disaster.
1. It overheats on the back side - top right
2. The battery does NOT last for 2 days. Today on its first day of actual use disconnect it at 6am and it's 1.26pm at 10% battery life
3. The LEICA camera is ... basic and normal nothing surprising in the quality of photos
3. 30 mins ago I asked Amazon today, to replace it with a new one, I hope it is a hardware problem and that it is not a global problem in the device s
4. Huawei my first experience with the Brand has been Fatal a real #EPICFAIL
5. I will continue to tell you my experience ... I hope I can say something good
Any Advice ? Any tweaks? To get a 2 day battery and superb performance as they promised!

Day 3 for me and I had serious battery drain issues today. I was constantly notified of the power hogging apps, something I never experienced the previous 2 days. Not sure what happened but I was extremely happy the first 2 days.

I can't comment on the US edition, but with international versions, sometimes doing a factory reset helps a lot.

Anyone have a little yellowish darkness at the bottom of the screen? That's my only beef. My god this thing charges fast.

No issues after that and disabling wifi scan in location settings. Getting a solid 7hrs of sot. Was almost 10hrs sot before I updated to newer firmware but I couldn't deal with the number notification thingy.
Like any phone I don't expect perfect without some tweaks.

Did you insert a MicroSD on the phone ?

Just goto app settings and activate 'close when sleep' option for all the suspected app. Its like an inbuilt version of Greenify app

Everytime your phone gets hot ( and it's the same for all brands) you should turn off your phone and then back on. An app is keeping your processor at 100%. Two days ago I had the same problem with facebook and messenger.
The camera it's on top of all available phones. I have the latest firmware available and it's capable of very very good results, even better then S7/edge.
All the android phones, at first use are scanning all the files. It's ususal that first charge or two to last less.
Huawei has this prompt for apps runnng in backgroud. It's annoying but at least we know witch apps are more power hungry.

No overheating at all. My Note 4 often got a little warm/hot, but this phone is just cold most of the time. I use it with dual sim, work and private, lot of sync actions, working fine. No Facebook or FB Messenger
The power consumption warning can be turned off for apps that you trust.

Uninstall Facebook and Messenger

This phone has the best battery life and SOT of any Android or iPhone that I've used. The control over individual apps is great.
And the camera is pretty damn good too.

Nah I bet it's just a rogue app. Also he seems to be confusing SOT with standby time.
