Szsion dual core A9 android 4.2 1024x600 car radios - Android General

Szsion (i am not allowed to post links, google it, the first match is the one) produces quite nice android only (no ce) car navis that fit the design of different cars (audi, VW, mercedes, BMW, Kia, opel and many more).
I bought the Audi A3 version which looks quite like my now obsolete audi rns-e navigation plus.
I assume that the radios are technically all the same with different CAM bus boxes on the back and different designs. Sporting MStar SoCs (subsidary of Mediatek) they have a CPU powerful enough for car radio tasks and have a quite nice display.
I am also happy with the radio reception, which is as good as my original audi device. also i bought a realtek based dVB-T stick which enables me to use SDR along with digital radio, tv and FM in even better quality.
Navigation is VERY accurate, I even play ingress on it
The only issues I have at the moment is CAN bus support, which is because I got a pre-sale sample with some firmware problems regarding can bus support and I can't turn display brightness to full at the momenr, but that could be fixed with a new software.
So , do you guys know something about those devices ? Anybody else owns one? I just saw that DX.COM is also selling them, so chances are that I am not the only one with this nice device..
Greetings

As a trading company selling car multimedia since 2007, we purchased some samples on may 15 ( all with either 8 Gb or 16 Gb storage memory). We are still expecting to see the first units....nothing has been shipped till now....
Also : SION shares it's office address with ZHINAVI, selling same units with another interface....please check what you'll find in XDA forums about this company...I don't want to comment publicly, only in private messages if you want.... For me they are sisters companies, even if SION denies it....I am rather anxious about this....

Don't worry about not getting the devices. They exist
It seems that they are having some trouble with CAN conectivity which they claim is a software issue. I insisted on getting my device anyway and putting on software updates later on. Linkey is very nice if you ask her ...
They could also send me just 4gig model since 8 and 16 are not available yet.
They could, however communicate the problems a little more and not letting us wait 2 months without delivery, a mail saying that it will take some time would be nice...
The launcher they use is very nice, like on the pictures. The cpu is powerful enough for car tasks, gps is awesome. I have the best snr i ever had on any of my android devices.
Dvd playback works, radio is good. As I already said.
Anbody knows a rooting technique that MAY work with the mstar cpu?

I have been following these units as well. I have asked for a video of the interface so that I could see performance. Instead of doing a walk-thru like most companies, I got this, that I uploaded to YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHl2ZaDq3iw
I have also asked about unlocking the bootloader. It seems that the manufacture is interested in modifying his code to Android 5.x I told him if he opened up 100% of the source code to XDA, not only would he have a stable build of 5.x, but he would also have the best selling unit on XDA. I havent heard any more back.

I bought and received one of these for my 2006 Audi A4. It's working alright, sill trying to integrate steering wheel controls and the rear speakers aren't working, these two items aren't huge for me so I'm happy with the purchase so far. Also, I ordered and received the item within a week, crazy fast

Hi Riley!
Do any of your CANBUS features work or is it just the SWC that dors not work?
Also, how happy are you with the display brightness? Mine's way too dim for daylight use. At night, the display is very nice and sharp with beautiful living color, but with sunlight it really sucks so bad you almost can't see anything.
What's your software version?

I forgot to mention how AWESOME it would be to have source code access for this device.
KICK-ASS!
Anybody got an idea how I could try to enhance the display brightness?

I have similar unit for Audi A4 2002 model, rear speakers were not working but got around that by connecting the rear aux outputs left and right to the cables for aux inputs left and right!
I also have trouble with the Canbus support and the LED lights on the unit do not go off when the unit is powered down. Thats not good news for my battery. However the unit is very quick and GPS works smoothly....

Baidu Root works just fine.

The display is not great in the sunlight. I also think the colors are a bit washed out. The radio tries to turn on the back up camera when I go in reverse and the led lights turn off when I turn off the headlights, so I assume the canbus is working. I think the swc is a wire harness issue, I'm going to check it out when I feel brave enough.

Those with Audis, how does the plastic of the radio match the dash?? The HuiFei unit was a glossy and didn't really match the matte factory finish

It looks great against the dash, like it belongs.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app

Side Note... Those with the Audi that are having speaker issues. 99% of the time this is because the right harness combo is not hooked up. I worked in car stereo for years and tell you the Audi harnesses can be tricky. Sometimes you need to have speaker wires only, sometimes you need to use the RCA jack harness, and sometimes you need to use both.
DO NOT PM asking me to help with your car. This is nothing something that can be troubleshot over the internet. Has to be done in person. Your best best is too pull your radio out and the harness, You should have a separate harness that plugs into the back of the radio giving you RCA output. You will need to take these outputs and try plugging into the harness that goes into the car. A combo of these, should cause all speakers to work.
---------- Post added at 10:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------
One more question for the Audi guys. The 4 buttons around the volume knob. Can you program these to do certain functions? i.e. One to be home, one to be radio, one to GPS, last one to be Google Music for example.

The default is home, gps, secondary menu and radio. I haven't figured out how to change them yet though
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app

Ok, it might be a hack to change them then. Im waiting to order mine as the harness shown to come with the radio is not the harness I need for my Audi. Also been told that the new versions work fine with the SWC. Once I see a picture of what harnesses come with the new versions, I will make my final decision.
Anyone want to install CPU-Z to see what the actual hardware specs are??
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cpuid.cpu_z&hl=en

I'll give it a whirl
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app

If you do while on Wi-Fi, online validation will upload the specs and you can share the URL

valid.canardpc.com/a/ac5tun

Interesting it couldnt read the Frequency of the CPU... :-/

You can change the button layout by going to the calculator and type in !(123)= or !(786)=(look what works for you) and then chose the 4th option.
Can anybody share me the gps program they got with there device, mine was navione and its in chinese i dont understand anything of it.
Thanks in advance

I always use Google Maps and just make sure I downloaded the maps for offline mode

Do you 'root' the rest of your life too?

Most of us her root our phones to suck every last bit of potential out of them.
I'm curious if most of us 'root' the rest of our lives fro the same reason as well.
For example, I pulled the stock intake out of my car and put in a high flow intake system. I don't race or even drive like a maniac, just like I don't use my rooted phone to do too much more than make phone calls and browse the web. I just like that I can make my car a little more fuel efficient and get a little more power for acceleration when I need it.
Back to phone, I did the silicone mod to the Sensation to keep the dust out because waiting for it to get bad and need a replacement seemed like a dumb plan.
My computer....Linux OS. (I'm sure a good number of us do that one, but damn you Dell and you proprietary wifi drivers that take hours to hack to get working!)
I put a double blade on my mulching lawnmower so it mulches twice as well in half the time.
I couldn't survive without my Logitech Harmony remote for my entertainment system, the one that lets you flash custom button mapping and macros to the remote so single button presses turn on the TV, DVD player, and switch the stereo from Cable to DVD while turning off the DVD player. (Seriously....I could not live without this.)
I have a custom designed Windows 2000 based computer in my car running better GPS software on a 7 inch monitor than you can get in the newest Garmin device. Also runs my music and car diagnosis with an OBII interface into the car's main engine management computer. All with easy and safe to use touchscreen design in front of the shifter. (Emphasis on safe to use) And it looks like it came out of the factory with this computer installed, thank you very much.
You know...this kind of stuff.
So do other people hack everything in their lives? Or just the phone?
Oh yeah, with cars I do it so much more. Aftermarket parts is what I spend a lot of money on, for example this week, I've brought a whole new receiver and headunit for my Ford Explorer, changed all four speakers, bypassed the factory amp and now I have much better sound with more quality bass.
I also had a manual transmission VW Jetta, there was something called the swiss cheese mod, where you cut holes into the intake box so the air filter/intake sucks in more air and gives it an more louder/meaner sound while accelerating.
I've had my fair share of mods, can't remember all, but mostly with cars though. Getting them out of manufacturer specs and taking it to an whole another level.
You sound like my kinda guys. My philosophy is "if you can make it better, what's stopping you?"

I do the same, mostly with cars. I engine swapped my s10 with a Camaro 350 with cams and big carb, turbo 350 trans, 5 gallon race cell. It was a mean street truck. '87

Unfortunately, as anyone who likes to flash ROM's knows....if you can make it better, tomorrow you can make it even ore better, and even better still the next day....and so on and so forth.
There does come a time when I feel like I spend more time tweaking / building / modifying things than I ever spend actually using them.

Other than that, I'm disappointed in Logitech for dropping support the Google TV Revue, and not letting devs unlock the bootloader.

PLX kiwi bt with Torque??

Anyone use this? I got a check engine light on my 02 toyota so I figured its time to have one of these puppies. Haven't hooked it up but Im looking for folks that have used it with the skyrocket...or really, any phone for that matter.
I don't know anything about the app, sorry.
But just in case you didn't know, AutoZone will check your engine codes for free. Probably other auto parts stores will do the same.

Right but my car is getting close to 100k and I don't really want to have to go down to autozone for the diagnostic every time. I have received the PXL Kiwi bluetooth unit and I must say that Im in love with it. Will go great with my tablet and road trips. Works great with torque free version. I am able to read and clear codes along with monitoring any temp or measure regarding the motor I can think of.

But you'd still have to go to autozone to get the part to fix the check engine light anyway, right? I'm glad you're enjoying your purchase though. Gives me one more thing I want to get.
I use this one works great for those re-occurring codes that really are not critical.

Well, not really...I can order the part online usually and for a discount most times...but sometimes I end up at pepboys anyways.
On a side note, I replaced the pre cat o2 sensor and now my car stalls idle and keeps going into open loop. The good thing is I can watch whats happening with torque and the obd2 connector so I have an idea what the problem is even though its not throwing a fault code. I did clear the fault code but I didnt reset the ecu. Im thinking it just needs to be reset and re-learn its values.
Yes torque and the cheapo Ebay obd2 adapter work with this phone.

OBD-II tool
I bought Torque as soon as it came out and its a great little tool and good fun but if you have serious diagnostic work to do the ScanXL packages are really solid and have licensed support for manufacturer specific PIDs.
A few years ago, before I had an android phone or torque existed. I picked up a scantool.net OBDLink bluetooth/usb adapter - they're a fair bit more expensive than the ebay units, but can read way more PID's per second, which probably isn't useful unless you're running a copy of the ScanXL software.
For day to day stuff Torq + ebay bt adapter make me feel dumb for spending all that cash, ug.
I dunno about the ebay adapter but Im very happy with my plx. Sure I spent more but it got great reviews...maybe the other cheaper ones work but Im happy. Torque just fixed the themes too.

HuiFei - 2 DIN Pure Android Car Stereo Radio Head Unit - YOUR PURCHASE EXPERIENCE

All other HuiFei threads have become very cluttered and are predominantly technical / hardware discussion. This thread is dedicated to help people that are considering a purchase.
Post here your purchase experience, link to your supplier, price paid, whether you had to pay any import fees / duties, shipping time, the quality of the radio unit, fit and finish, whether you encountered any technical problems / quality issues, any customer service related comments and everything else you can think of to make the buying experience easier.
Lets NOT post anything related to troubleshooting - for this refer to the regular HuiFei thread.
This thread should be dedicated only to purchase decision, shopping experience and overall satisfaction with the unit.
May I suggest people describe their experiences after using the unit for at least few weeks. Something like "I've received the unit two days ago and it looks nice; it has this and that..." is not very helpful.
I was also excited for the first few days, then starting discovering problems, and three months later the unit died. I feel it's still too early to write about my experience. I'm waiting for a replacement part and when (if) I receive it and test it, I'll write more.
Reliability seems to be one of the main problems with all these units (my opinion, based on feedback from others, not just my own experience).
Well, at last I purchased one myself so here is my promised review. I drive 2011 Rav4, v6, base model.
This is my particular model. So this is the so called Klyde.
Purchasing from Aliexpress is quick and easy, pretty much like on eBay. I contacted a few sellers first, communication in English is always possible but, just like items descriptions on aliexpress - not always perfect.
I contacted my seller in advance and asked for two upgrades: higher resolution screen (extra $30) and a rear-view camera ($20). I am glad I did - the screen is excellent quality and the camera is great value - the picture is more than acceptable.
Upon ordering one may expect to wait at least a week until the unit is shipped. Supposedly this is for testing. Once shipped the unit arrived 3 days later. I did not have to pay any import taxes but I hear this may at times happen.
This HU is very well made, I'd say OEM quality. Installation was easy but only because of the wealth of information on this message board. The unit comes with no any instructions or manual. Installation process can be completed in less than 30 minutes - but only if you dont plan to install the camera.
I was so absorbed in the installation, sadly, I took no pictures. But one can easily find picture reference to each step that is required to install on rav4 forums.
Since I did install the camera I spent nearly the whole day in my very small garage. The camera comes attached to a replacement license plate light. You remove the old light but keep the light bulb on the wire, insert the bulb in the new holder/light and push it back in the slot above license plate. Be careful because the plastic is not the highest quality.
The wire from camera was too fat (well, the connection jack) to thread it tru the hole that already exist in the gate panel (inside) right behind and little above the license plate light. I expanded it with a drill and sprayed a few coats of clear coat. I routed wires tru the gate, tru the rubber hose coming from car to the gate (between gate hinges) and this was very, very hard because there are many cables and a windshield washer tube in this hose already.
For power I tapped into wires from the electric socket/cigarette lighter in the rear of the car.
Camera signal wire was just long enough to route it inside behind the rear plastic panel, later in the wire channel along both doors, up behind the glove box and to the unit.
I found on this forum how to locate the red wire with a reverse signal to the radio. this allows the unit to show camera picture once shifted in reverse, automatically. The unit takes about 30 seconds to boot but camera image show imediately, once shifted into D the booting process continues. 30 seconds boot is only from the cold state. Later power cycling is immediate.
All wires were simply plug and play. There is a substantial GPS antena with a large magnet. I stuck it to some kind of a metal pipe that runs across the front of the car right behind the glove box.
There are two USB extension cords included and I run them so they exit in the glove box as well. These can be used for flash drives but also for a 3g usb modem.
There is an external microphone included but I have not been able to find where to plug it in. The front AUX port does not seem to detect the microphone.
Radio reception is good, I think comparable with the original radio. There seem to be a bug in AM mode where stations' frequencies are shifted a few units - so your favorite 500 mhz station now becomes 503 or so.
The included Sygic navigation software is pirated and old. I downloaded current version from google play and I found it much better. The hardware button for navigation was not correctly assigned but this was an easy fix in settings.
The screen is more responsive than any OEM Infotainment system I used in rental cars. It is bright and crisp. However, with polarized sunglasses it is hard to see much on the screen, I think I will have to buy another sunglasses now.
There is a rather bad application for music playback. I replaced it with the free Shuttle music player from play store. I tested a few players but this seems like the best and simplest to use plus it is free.
This unit connects to home wifi or you can of course also tether to your phone. Purchasing USB modes is another option.
Bluetooth calls are at most acceptable because of the poor quality of the build-in microphone. As mentioned there is a substantial external microphone but I have found to way to connect it yet.
So far I am very happy with the purchase. I hope it will work for at least a few years.

this is a great thread and we need more people join in the conversation..
I am considering buying a unit from alibaba model DG-8025
Processor Advance MStar MST786 Cortex-A9 dual core
Max.main frequency "1GHz (Neon), L1 (I/D) cache 32KB/32KB, L2
cache 512KB; 40nm LP low consumption technology"
RAM DDR3 1GB SAMSUNG
ROM 16GB
Operation system Android O/S 4.2
GPU Mali400M
Main MCU STM32F100
Power IC AS1015
It is very hard to decide which company to go with.. considering the shipping alone is $60-$80
and if you ever have to send it for warranty good luck getting it back after spending 100$ on shipping to china
so pay with credit card and install it as soon as you get it and try it as much as possible.. if there is anything wrong you should hope it shows itself fast or you are out of luck.
I am worried for the heat of summer in a grrenhouse of the car temp going north of 100F, as is these units are not well ventilated, it is a cramped up place with many CPU, GPU and other electronics producing heat that is a recipe for disaster.. so I think it is important to find a unit with a good ventilation and low heat production perhaps
the 2 main ones I see right now
RockChip RK3066 (KGL/KLD/JY/MD/GS/RM) 1.6GHz Cortex A9 Dual-core
Mstar MST786 (cedric/Mstar) 1.0 to 1.2 Ghz Cortex-A9 Dual Core
some quad core units are showing up to the party too with higher prices
the MST786 unit I found was around 360$ shipped
the RK3066 are around 420$
Quad cores around 550$
all OEM fit .
Can anyone else chime in on the reliability issue?
as for the mic, the internal microphones look to be garbage so get an external one if you care
for me Bluetooth is very important
I can only say that my unit is still working fine - but there are many little issues that are annoying. For example: bluetooth auto connect does not seem to ever work, I have to each time manually connect the phone. wifi sometimes restarts when I switch the car on, sometimes does not and I have to switch in on manually.
radio reception is not as good as OEM.
Backup camera, and this is weird, seem to have some kind of a connection problem when it is raining. I think water gets onto it somehow.
But all together this is a decent unit. I really like the navigation that is now build in. I use sygic, no, it is not as good as tomtom with routing, but it is fine.
The microphone is actually not that bad, people generally hear me fine. In my Klyde unit there is an additional external microphone but connecting it makes very little difference.

Q&A MTCD Units

Where is the source code?
A: It is not released, nor will it be released as it was with mtcB. WTF!
Do the MTCD boards have proprietary hardware and/or software? Besides the MCU
A: Yes. Custom digitizer means you have to buy screen from them. LCD is generic so its replaceable but I have found a reputable dealer. Heres website
http://cowinlcd.com/html/en/index.php?ac=article&at=read&did=113
What are the LCD and digitizer model numbers?
A:depends on the head unit model
10.1 inch version: Cowin and goodix
7 inch versions: ?
Where can I find rk3188 2gb boards to replace the 1gb board?
A:JOYING-There are none. They keep claiming 2gb is coming, but if they knew MTCB boards were slow with 1gb, why are they selling it again.
A:Xtrons-
How are they loading the software onto the board? (Jtag etc)
A: from Rockchips site,
"Support system code download by the following interface: USB OTG interface. | UART2Interface "

Then I'm assuming(NOT TESTED) we can use rktool and flash the update img. Tearing apart the img shows partion paths. This might be the method for user recovery on hard brick units.
Has anyone found any suspicious activity/service/app running on these units?
A: Not yet but since source is being withheld BE CAREFUL of your privacy.
Has anyone used any after market shark fins with these units?
A: Only Radio fins was tested. GPS fins unknown. LTE fins known.
A guy pm'd me an app that sets Poweramp as the primary music player and adds it to steering wheel controls, however the app is specifically for poweramp unfortunately. However, if someone has managed to make it work with power amp, i cant see a reason why it couldnt be re-worked for Google Music?
A: Joying and other brands dont care or have much knowledge. The lack of source code is sad. Its left up to the users which begs the question:
Why is this product so expensive if it runs extremely slow and we have to do all the work?
A:
Is there any way to pull an image of the full MCU/stock software for recovery purposes, or is this one of those things that is really available only from manufacturer?
A: Yes . Online Nandroid on play store. or RKtools.
Where can I get drivers and other useful tools?
A:Rockchips site
If anyone else has questions that get answered here Ill update first post to reflect it.

android system/bootloader/kernel How are they loading onto the nand storage. With certain phones and tablets you can jtag. Others require certain hardware or software to load it onto the board. This is to try to come up with a user method of recovering hard bricks.
Can anyone with experience of MTCB units and MTCD units post some sort of comparison of the two types ?
We can see what the differences are but it would be useful if someone with experience of both types ( @Marius B or @doctorman maybe) could post some comments explaining the hands on advantages or disadvantages compared to the "B" units.
Maybe even open a new thread on the subject of the differences and whether its worth upgrading to the "D" types.
I have seen a question about malicious apps/activity a few times on the MTCD board. Was that a problem on the MTCB units or another? Or are you all just doing due diligence?

what kind of detail do you need.
there are reviews around the net on both..
to my experience right now the mtcD ROM needs major polishing , it is nothing close to mtcB. it is sluggish.
I am so sure that I noticed one boot at 10 seconds but could not replicate it, I am getting 23 seconds boot time on mtcD with latest Joying ROM.
motherboardis rearranged,
it has now 3 UPS plugs on the mother board, only 2 used.
2 wifi antennas but wifi is still 2.4 GHz
GPS antenna is soldered to the coreboard instead of motherboard.
the screen ribbon cable in mtcD is narrower and does not fit the old mtcB connection
touch screens are not interchangeable even though the cable is the same
BT is built in to the motherboard now
I would give the mtcD 6 months to mature up like mtcB units
we now have many developers working on head units and they are joining mtcD as well and bring their work over to these so it will hopefully go faster.

Thanks Doctorman, I think its pretty obvious that MTCD will replace MTCB, a shame in some ways cos of all the work done on MTCB units over the years, it would have been nice to be able to just upgrade the SoM as we did from MTCB RK3066 to MTCB RK3188, on the other hand the MTCD MCU seems to be better then the MTCB MCU and lots of the MTCBs bugs seem to have gone with the MTCD units, its just a case of allowing them to mature lke you say.
I need the steps in order to root my device

Does anyone have an MCTD device that has working bluetooth settings? Can you add and remove devices freely without issues?
The rom that came on my device can't add/remove bluetooth devices from the head unit bluetooth settings page. Selecting a device does nothing. It's as if you don't pair a device once initially prompted, it won't let you change things.
I do, but only phones and OBD2 dongles pair so far. Also most apps other than Torque that would use the BT obd2 dongle think that BT is off in the system.
I bought a Huifei unit for my VW Crafter (I can't post links yet due to my post count, but if you search for Crafter quad core android something like it comes up). Since it is essentially the same as the Mercedes Sprinter, it fits both cars. However, on the VW the dash lights are red and on the MB they are orange. Apparantly when switching to 5.1.1 they also made some hardware modifications. One of them being that the button lights aren't RGB anymore, but only orange. I've already tried to resolve this through the seller by obtaining a new button pcb with red leds, but that seems like a track that doesn't really lead anywhere.
Since I see many people doing hardware mods on these units also, I was wondering whether this is a mod that a local electronic repair shop could do. I've contacted one of them, but they didn't want to do it because they feared the SMD-technique.
I hope you guys can confirm that this is possible to do by a professional repair shop.
BTW, I know I'm to late to the show to sponsor the new unit for the 5.1.1 development. But I would like to show my gratitude to this person anyway, since I'm really hoping the software side of things gets improved soon also and I'm very happy that he is willing to take on this task. How can I still donate to him?

a bit if hot air and the correct LEDs should be an easy modification.
Hello
Whether at this moment is possible to configure wheel to sterring in custom aps like a spotify etc.? I have mtcd for bmw and in my Steering wheel keys app dont see any keys.
Or We need to new custom firemware or app updates?
Just make use of the "phone" app, you can delete paired devices there!
//
There is already an deprecated app for this.
Maybe the developer can help us with this?

He d probably have to re-write the app as it talks to the MTCB MCUs.
Is there any prerooted, more recent Rom for"MTCD_LM_V1.40_1" (03/30/2016)? Thanks in advance.
Headunit is made by Erisin LM. Android 5.1.1. RK3188

No, your head unit is NOT made by Erisin, Erisin are a seller.
Go to settings/about device and see what 2 or 3 letters appear after "MTCD" in the MCU field to find who your manufacturer is.

Can LM Boards be used with some other manufactors roms likely "rebranding"? (or will this cause a soft/hardbrick?)
I flashed on my KGL Unit a Joying Rom. Just the Rom, not the MCU!!
Works without problems.
Can anyone tell me if the modded apps like Bluetooth and Radio for the MTCB units work on MTCD units??

3.5mm IR universal remote adapter, low profile

hello i am looking for a low profile 3.5mm headphone jack IR emitter
i really like this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-IR-Sm...964868?hash=item1c60135884:g:iWYAAOSwuYVWoAqP
i love the design of it and it is the only one i can find ,well one of the only ones i can find with a low profile that does not stick way our and look ridiculous (the other one looks nearly identical and comes witha keychain holder but the edge had rough spikes and it does not have BMW logo looking front face ,but appears to run on the same app ,but says IOS only)
problem i see many similar looking ones ,there are few on amazon that look the same but have different names and different branding, but they all seem to use the same app i guess, limited to only be able to be used with that one app
the other problem is that i see some that say it does not work with android and some that say it does and then the ones that say it works with android say it only works with certain phones
my question is does this work with android and will it work with this tablet? anyone tried one of these yet?
i do not understand why it would work with some phones/devices and not for others
i mean the app should run the same on all phones/ android devices and the 3.55 mm headphone jack can't be all that different from device to to device
but i have seen a bunch of mixed reviews from people saying it is either great or that it sucks and will not even work on any IOS device, i really want this product , i would like to use it on my fire 7 but also on my iphone 5c and i plan on upgrading to a nexus 6p soon so would like to know if anyone has used one of these and has tried it on any of those devices , but primarily right now i wont it for the fire, would be great since 3.55mm is at the top and this is nice and low profile
most of the ebay auctions and amazon ads for these say IOS only , but he app it uses is available for android as well and this one in the link i posted say it does work with android, most other say no android
the fire 7 i feel is a good shot since it does not have any fancy 3.55mm jack maybe the phones that don't work are because their jacks have mic support through the jack?
can anyone figure out why it would work with some phones and not others by looking at the list of supported devices in the link i provided and maybe tell if the fire 7 uses a similar jack as the list of supported devices or one that is the same as the listed devices that are specifically stated as not working?
I think for under 5 bucks, it's worth buying just to test yourself!

i know the thing is that there are so many that look nearly identical but have different brand names
5 or 6 bucks yes, some are nine or ten, and i know i will be protected by ebay or amazon the thing is that i would like to know if there is a dimes worth a difference between them all and if someone has already had a good experience with a particular one, i am not going to order the 10 or 15 different variations and test them all , just wondering if anyone has one , the fire 7 is a great device to use as a remote i use it for my other sony tv and my receiver both have wifi control apps and for my hue lights ,but there are a couple of things i can't control like my cable box and my old plasma tv
i am still swimming in remotes this thing would be a big help

Yeah I see your concern. Good luck in your search, sorry I can't help. Update if you ever figure it out though!
ok my IR emitter came in the mail today ,tested it on my iphone 1st, it didn't work on my panasonic TV but it works on my comcast motorola cable box and my LG air conditioner
then i tried it on the fire tablet ,the device is detected the headphone icon shows in resurrection remix rom
the zaza remote app says not compatible with your device in the app store so i downloaded it through blackmart and it installed
the android version is completely different from the IOS vesion
i tried to set it up to work with the cable box but i had no luck at all
i wonder why it won't work when the emitter is in it shows up as headphones plugged in ,i wonder if this app could be modified to work or if there is another app that works with this particular emitter ,this app kinda sucks a major brand like panasonic should have a working code, i cant even get power button working after going through all codes, the learning feature is useless and the forum is all in chinese, thought i cant see how this little thing could be used to detect IR signals i thought it was just a IR LED, when i try the learning feature it does not always detect the signal from the remote and sometimes it says signal detected when i have not even pressed any button on the remote some times it delays and don't say detected signal for minutes but every time it does and i try to play it back it never works
It is possible the jack on the fire is simply not passing enough voltage or is not passing it consistently enough. Many of these little IR dongles like this include a small button battery and transistor to make them work because of this common issue. Or it could legitimately be an issue with either the fire's hardware/firmware drivers specifically, or all of android in general if there is that much difference between the android and ios versions of the app.
If you don't have enough power for IR LED you can use VIPER4Android to amplify signal.
