Q&A MTCD Units - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Where is the source code?
A: It is not released, nor will it be released as it was with mtcB. WTF!
Do the MTCD boards have proprietary hardware and/or software? Besides the MCU
A: Yes. Custom digitizer means you have to buy screen from them. LCD is generic so its replaceable but I have found a reputable dealer. Heres website
http://cowinlcd.com/html/en/index.php?ac=article&at=read&did=113
What are the LCD and digitizer model numbers?
A:depends on the head unit model
10.1 inch version: Cowin and goodix
7 inch versions: ?
Where can I find rk3188 2gb boards to replace the 1gb board?
A:JOYING-There are none. They keep claiming 2gb is coming, but if they knew MTCB boards were slow with 1gb, why are they selling it again.
A:Xtrons-
How are they loading the software onto the board? (Jtag etc)
A: from Rockchips site,
"Support system code download by the following interface: USB OTG interface. | UART2Interface "

Then I'm assuming(NOT TESTED) we can use rktool and flash the update img. Tearing apart the img shows partion paths. This might be the method for user recovery on hard brick units.
Has anyone found any suspicious activity/service/app running on these units?
A: Not yet but since source is being withheld BE CAREFUL of your privacy.
Has anyone used any after market shark fins with these units?
A: Only Radio fins was tested. GPS fins unknown. LTE fins known.
A guy pm'd me an app that sets Poweramp as the primary music player and adds it to steering wheel controls, however the app is specifically for poweramp unfortunately. However, if someone has managed to make it work with power amp, i cant see a reason why it couldnt be re-worked for Google Music?
A: Joying and other brands dont care or have much knowledge. The lack of source code is sad. Its left up to the users which begs the question:
Why is this product so expensive if it runs extremely slow and we have to do all the work?
A:
Is there any way to pull an image of the full MCU/stock software for recovery purposes, or is this one of those things that is really available only from manufacturer?
A: Yes . Online Nandroid on play store. or RKtools.
Where can I get drivers and other useful tools?
A:Rockchips site
If anyone else has questions that get answered here Ill update first post to reflect it.

android system/bootloader/kernel How are they loading onto the nand storage. With certain phones and tablets you can jtag. Others require certain hardware or software to load it onto the board. This is to try to come up with a user method of recovering hard bricks.

Can anyone with experience of MTCB units and MTCD units post some sort of comparison of the two types ?
We can see what the differences are but it would be useful if someone with experience of both types ( @Marius B or @doctorman maybe) could post some comments explaining the hands on advantages or disadvantages compared to the "B" units.
Maybe even open a new thread on the subject of the differences and whether its worth upgrading to the "D" types.

I have seen a question about malicious apps/activity a few times on the MTCD board. Was that a problem on the MTCB units or another? Or are you all just doing due diligence?

what kind of detail do you need.
there are reviews around the net on both..
to my experience right now the mtcD ROM needs major polishing , it is nothing close to mtcB. it is sluggish.
I am so sure that I noticed one boot at 10 seconds but could not replicate it, I am getting 23 seconds boot time on mtcD with latest Joying ROM.
motherboardis rearranged,
it has now 3 UPS plugs on the mother board, only 2 used.
2 wifi antennas but wifi is still 2.4 GHz
GPS antenna is soldered to the coreboard instead of motherboard.
the screen ribbon cable in mtcD is narrower and does not fit the old mtcB connection
touch screens are not interchangeable even though the cable is the same
BT is built in to the motherboard now
I would give the mtcD 6 months to mature up like mtcB units
we now have many developers working on head units and they are joining mtcD as well and bring their work over to these so it will hopefully go faster.

Thanks Doctorman, I think its pretty obvious that MTCD will replace MTCB, a shame in some ways cos of all the work done on MTCB units over the years, it would have been nice to be able to just upgrade the SoM as we did from MTCB RK3066 to MTCB RK3188, on the other hand the MTCD MCU seems to be better then the MTCB MCU and lots of the MTCBs bugs seem to have gone with the MTCD units, its just a case of allowing them to mature lke you say.

Does anyone have an MCTD device that has working bluetooth settings? Can you add and remove devices freely without issues?
The rom that came on my device can't add/remove bluetooth devices from the head unit bluetooth settings page. Selecting a device does nothing. It's as if you don't pair a device once initially prompted, it won't let you change things.

I do, but only phones and OBD2 dongles pair so far. Also most apps other than Torque that would use the BT obd2 dongle think that BT is off in the system.

I bought a Huifei unit for my VW Crafter (I can't post links yet due to my post count, but if you search for Crafter quad core android something like it comes up). Since it is essentially the same as the Mercedes Sprinter, it fits both cars. However, on the VW the dash lights are red and on the MB they are orange. Apparantly when switching to 5.1.1 they also made some hardware modifications. One of them being that the button lights aren't RGB anymore, but only orange. I've already tried to resolve this through the seller by obtaining a new button pcb with red leds, but that seems like a track that doesn't really lead anywhere.
Since I see many people doing hardware mods on these units also, I was wondering whether this is a mod that a local electronic repair shop could do. I've contacted one of them, but they didn't want to do it because they feared the SMD-technique.
I hope you guys can confirm that this is possible to do by a professional repair shop.
BTW, I know I'm to late to the show to sponsor the new unit for the 5.1.1 development. But I would like to show my gratitude to this person anyway, since I'm really hoping the software side of things gets improved soon also and I'm very happy that he is willing to take on this task. How can I still donate to him?

Hello
Whether at this moment is possible to configure wheel to sterring in custom aps like a spotify etc.? I have mtcd for bmw and in my Steering wheel keys app dont see any keys.
Or We need to new custom firemware or app updates?

Just make use of the "phone" app, you can delete paired devices there!
//
There is already an deprecated app for this.
Maybe the developer can help us with this?

He d probably have to re-write the app as it talks to the MTCB MCUs.

Is there any prerooted, more recent Rom for"MTCD_LM_V1.40_1" (03/30/2016)? Thanks in advance.
Headunit is made by Erisin LM. Android 5.1.1. RK3188

No, your head unit is NOT made by Erisin, Erisin are a seller.
Go to settings/about device and see what 2 or 3 letters appear after "MTCD" in the MCU field to find who your manufacturer is.

Can LM Boards be used with some other manufactors roms likely "rebranding"? (or will this cause a soft/hardbrick?)

I flashed on my KGL Unit a Joying Rom. Just the Rom, not the MCU!!
Works without problems.

Can anyone tell me if the modded apps like Bluetooth and Radio for the MTCB units work on MTCD units??

Szsion dual core A9 android 4.2 1024x600 car radios

Szsion (i am not allowed to post links, google it, the first match is the one) produces quite nice android only (no ce) car navis that fit the design of different cars (audi, VW, mercedes, BMW, Kia, opel and many more).
I bought the Audi A3 version which looks quite like my now obsolete audi rns-e navigation plus.
I assume that the radios are technically all the same with different CAM bus boxes on the back and different designs. Sporting MStar SoCs (subsidary of Mediatek) they have a CPU powerful enough for car radio tasks and have a quite nice display.
I am also happy with the radio reception, which is as good as my original audi device. also i bought a realtek based dVB-T stick which enables me to use SDR along with digital radio, tv and FM in even better quality.
Navigation is VERY accurate, I even play ingress on it
The only issues I have at the moment is CAN bus support, which is because I got a pre-sale sample with some firmware problems regarding can bus support and I can't turn display brightness to full at the momenr, but that could be fixed with a new software.
So , do you guys know something about those devices ? Anybody else owns one? I just saw that DX.COM is also selling them, so chances are that I am not the only one with this nice device..
Greetings

As a trading company selling car multimedia since 2007, we purchased some samples on may 15 ( all with either 8 Gb or 16 Gb storage memory). We are still expecting to see the first units....nothing has been shipped till now....
Also : SION shares it's office address with ZHINAVI, selling same units with another interface....please check what you'll find in XDA forums about this company...I don't want to comment publicly, only in private messages if you want.... For me they are sisters companies, even if SION denies it....I am rather anxious about this....

Don't worry about not getting the devices. They exist
It seems that they are having some trouble with CAN conectivity which they claim is a software issue. I insisted on getting my device anyway and putting on software updates later on. Linkey is very nice if you ask her ...
They could also send me just 4gig model since 8 and 16 are not available yet.
They could, however communicate the problems a little more and not letting us wait 2 months without delivery, a mail saying that it will take some time would be nice...
The launcher they use is very nice, like on the pictures. The cpu is powerful enough for car tasks, gps is awesome. I have the best snr i ever had on any of my android devices.
Dvd playback works, radio is good. As I already said.
Anbody knows a rooting technique that MAY work with the mstar cpu?
I have been following these units as well. I have asked for a video of the interface so that I could see performance. Instead of doing a walk-thru like most companies, I got this, that I uploaded to YouTube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHl2ZaDq3iw
I have also asked about unlocking the bootloader. It seems that the manufacture is interested in modifying his code to Android 5.x I told him if he opened up 100% of the source code to XDA, not only would he have a stable build of 5.x, but he would also have the best selling unit on XDA. I havent heard any more back.
I bought and received one of these for my 2006 Audi A4. It's working alright, sill trying to integrate steering wheel controls and the rear speakers aren't working, these two items aren't huge for me so I'm happy with the purchase so far. Also, I ordered and received the item within a week, crazy fast

Hi Riley!
Do any of your CANBUS features work or is it just the SWC that dors not work?
Also, how happy are you with the display brightness? Mine's way too dim for daylight use. At night, the display is very nice and sharp with beautiful living color, but with sunlight it really sucks so bad you almost can't see anything.
What's your software version?
I forgot to mention how AWESOME it would be to have source code access for this device.
KICK-ASS!
Anybody got an idea how I could try to enhance the display brightness?

I have similar unit for Audi A4 2002 model, rear speakers were not working but got around that by connecting the rear aux outputs left and right to the cables for aux inputs left and right!
I also have trouble with the Canbus support and the LED lights on the unit do not go off when the unit is powered down. Thats not good news for my battery. However the unit is very quick and GPS works smoothly....

Baidu Root works just fine.
The display is not great in the sunlight. I also think the colors are a bit washed out. The radio tries to turn on the back up camera when I go in reverse and the led lights turn off when I turn off the headlights, so I assume the canbus is working. I think the swc is a wire harness issue, I'm going to check it out when I feel brave enough.

Those with Audis, how does the plastic of the radio match the dash?? The HuiFei unit was a glossy and didn't really match the matte factory finish
It looks great against the dash, like it belongs.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Side Note... Those with the Audi that are having speaker issues. 99% of the time this is because the right harness combo is not hooked up. I worked in car stereo for years and tell you the Audi harnesses can be tricky. Sometimes you need to have speaker wires only, sometimes you need to use the RCA jack harness, and sometimes you need to use both.
DO NOT PM asking me to help with your car. This is nothing something that can be troubleshot over the internet. Has to be done in person. Your best best is too pull your radio out and the harness, You should have a separate harness that plugs into the back of the radio giving you RCA output. You will need to take these outputs and try plugging into the harness that goes into the car. A combo of these, should cause all speakers to work.
---------- Post added at 10:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:54 PM ----------
One more question for the Audi guys. The 4 buttons around the volume knob. Can you program these to do certain functions? i.e. One to be home, one to be radio, one to GPS, last one to be Google Music for example.
The default is home, gps, secondary menu and radio. I haven't figured out how to change them yet though
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app
Ok, it might be a hack to change them then. Im waiting to order mine as the harness shown to come with the radio is not the harness I need for my Audi. Also been told that the new versions work fine with the SWC. Once I see a picture of what harnesses come with the new versions, I will make my final decision.
Anyone want to install CPU-Z to see what the actual hardware specs are??

If you do while on Wi-Fi, online validation will upload the specs and you can share the URL

Interesting it couldnt read the Frequency of the CPU... :-/
You can change the button layout by going to the calculator and type in !(123)= or !(786)=(look what works for you) and then chose the 4th option.
Can anybody share me the gps program they got with there device, mine was navione and its in chinese i dont understand anything of it.

Notice that there is also a CC2 plus and a Spro plus, that have more or less the same specifications.
The Teyes CC2 plus and Spro plus, does not have the extra ADAU1701 DSP and no gyroscope..
Well, really interesting.
Did you get any answers from vendor?
Their website is in russian language only and no translators can be used as all text is hard written into verifica l graphics.
Buy how to fit it in a standard 7" 2 DIN hole?
There is no difference between CC3 and CC2+/SPRO+ besides the board layout and the added ADI 1701 DSP in addition to the existing ROHM32107. Also has a proper control for controlling the fan. The others you had to enable the amplifier to power it on. All this information can be found on 4PDA.
Can the firmware from cc3 be flashed on a cc2+?
no, but technically yes. Teyes has taken a new approach to DRM and have encrypted their app resources in .ogg containers. To decrypt them, it uses a key stored somewhere on the device, probably in a persistent partition, as a seed to generate the proper keys to unpack the .ogg. A member on 4PDA has already done this using partition dumps from another member's CC3 unit and has managed to decrypt all the apps. He has made a custom firmware with the apps already prepacked with decrypted resources and has some private testers. They all say it works for them minus some bugs which is also present in the original CC3 unit. It is claimed that the firmware was going to be released to the general public on 11/11/20 (today), but it's since been moved to "eventually". The only way to get the firmware now is by paying the guy. It's a shame that a community effort gets thrown behind a paywall.

Ok the difference in price between CC2+ and CC3 is 50 euro (buying the modified firmware will be even less), if i want to buy one or the other unit I'll definitively go straight for CC3.
Not cheap but it seem very attractive.

I know 4PDA, but as you know, its all in Russian, not a language that everybody speak.
Here on XDA its English which the whole world understand.
I thought that they said on 4PDA,that the CC3 also has a Gyroscope, can you confirm that?
Google translate translate Russian into Dutch, but sometimes translate the sentences or words on an odd way.

Ah yeah, forgot about the gyroscope, but its only purpose is for the TeyesVision app. Its what makes the car model shift to the left/right. It's just a gimmick.
It might also work with Maps when gps signal is absent.
Buy the way, does Maps run smoothly or is it crappy like on any other Chinese unit?
I don't own one of those devices so I cant comment regarding that. I would assume it does since the CPU is supposedly faster. I dont think the gyroscope would work anywhere else except TeyesVision since the gyroscope is accessed via an APK, so I'm assuming the gyroscope is not using native android libraries and its probably some closed source proprietary interface.
Should receive my unit by Dec. I will give my impression as soon as I install. Hopefully we can get someone who already received theirs to chime in.
I would get it also, if I can confirm it can fit a standard 2 din that is 7"

It's a Fiat Grande Punto (2008).
The board has been modified to support a 2 DIN car system.
At the moment I have Eonon 2169K installed.
It's a 10.1" screen but body is 7".

I dunno if Fiat 500's default screen is 7" or 10.1"

Yeah I just looked, and like other person said I only see units for the 500. Try contacting them and see if those units work for yours. You can always go with a universal unit.
Well, I couldn't find the universal model in their shop on Aliexpress...

Question Are you satisfied with your FYT headunit? Buying advice needed!

After owning multiple rockchip devices (last a PX5 headunit), I'm now in theprocess of buying a new radio.
Initially I wanted to go for a MTCD radio with a PX6 cpu and 4GB of ram, but now also found the FYT devices with UIS7862, 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM.
(Mekede M600s)
And as "more RAM" is always very helpful with Android devices in the long term, I'm interested.
I saw that the community and ROM developement is not as big as for the MTCD devices, but I do not need to have that, if the devices itself are stable/good.
So I wanted to ask you guys, if you are satisfied with your decision and if you would buy it again?
Anything I need to know, coming from a MTCD device?
My main usage would be: Google Maps, Spotify, Bluetooth Connection to my phone for calls, Youtube, so nothing to fancy.
Yes. I've written about this a bunch. Look for my posts
You really don't need a modified "hal/mal" ROM with FYT.
Buggy MTCD is dead, long live MTCD
Very happy with my Navifly 7862 4gb. GPS is terrific and can't recall an unexpected reboot. Radio app is a bit naff but bang for buck, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Bluetooth to phone is seamless and hotspot from phone via macro works like a charm.
If you are the sort of person who looks to find fault, you probably won't be happy. If you just want a system that works for the most part and you know the interface limitations, you will be fine.

I've been kind of keeping my eye on this too, but so far (to me anyway) it looks like
"same sh*t, different pile".
Meanwhile I was pleasantly surprised in my shift from px5 to px6. Px6 seems to be a fairly large upgrade as compared to px5.... runs smoother with a lot fewer bugs. Bluetooth is still a problem when trying to connect devices other than phone though
For me, I have a lot of gadgets connected to my system (tv, front cam, rear cam, dash cam, siriusXM tuner, OBD bluetooth adapter, OBD USB adapter...etc), and I find FYT is more restrictive and locked up when it comes to connecting all these peripherals. That was the make/break for me and is what made me decide to stick with mtcd

I respectfully disagree. Ex. MTCD hardware developer here.
Context is everything.
What FYT processor/MCU did you compare.
I have the opposite experience and find my 7862UIS/MCU 53 = YIN far superior and without any of the issues you mention.
On my FYT platform, it is FAR less restrictive. The bonus is the processor is superior and has 4g built in!
Then there is the audio quality, my FYT is simply amazing.
Back to MTCx, isn't it the reason so many mods / modded ROMs exist - again with their horrible problems and daily reports of issues - for the MTCx platform, to fix bugs and get around restrictions. But don't take my work for it, read the MTCD forums and compare.

Yeah, Thanks.
I read your other thread on your switch-over from mtcd with great interest. The problem I'm having is that you jumped ship at the PX5 level. I on the other hand went on to px6 from the px5, and there is no comparison between the two (both were Dasaita). The px6 is light-years ahead of the px5 both in terms of speed and stability. I used to have to do full reboots on the PX5 pretty much weekly to clear up the bugs. With the PX6 I have had to reboot maybe twice in the last 6 months.
I think to sum it up best, comparing the px5 to the px6 is about the same as comparing a 1960's black and white tv to a 60 inch lcd tv of today.
And with Dasaita in particular, the choice of input/output ability simply can not be beat. I have not seen another head unit which supplies the number of input/output jacks and plugs that Dasiata does.
Dedicated inputs for tpms, dash cam, front cam, and TV so I don't have to use up my USB slots. It also has dual subwoofer outputs so I don't have to weaken the signal with a Y splitter for my dual amps.
Now that being said, the new FYT machines do seem to have a slightly brighter screen which is always welcomed, and some also have digital audio outputs but that's not really something I would ever use.

Look a little more on the latest FYT platform models.
All of these inputs are present or catered for with USB or AUX inputs, TPMS is USB for instance.
Also, FYT feature an optical out, which MTCx does not have.
You still haven't said what FYT you owned, context/specifics is really important.
The point is, the newer FYT units blow the MTCx units away in nearly every aspect, especially sound, while providing for the same features and more than the MTCx platform.

Well... that's exactly what I am saying. Because of the dedicated inputs I don't have to use up my USB inputs, or my AUX inputs. I can use those for other things (which I do). Also, the supplied software is completely built around those inputs. The software knows exactly where to go. The TV module for example is automatically turned on/off, and tuned up when I bring up the TV app. It all operates in one smooth motion. The FYT units are just plain lacking in this respect.
As for the digital outputs... if you are going to go digital you need high quality dacs... and I wouldn't exactly call the electronics inside these machines... "high quality"

I haven't owned one.... but that's my point with your argument... you haven't owned a PX6. You are comparing PX5 technology to the FYT. A cardboard box probably has higher quality and better sound than the PX5.
I have looked at FYT and the lack of input/output ability is the dealbreaker for me. To me these things aren't just Head units. They are central control centers... or at least that's what I bank on them for. If I was looking for a typical head unit I would go with Pioneer or Kenwood.

I think I was highly skeptical like you initially, the chinese origin headunits appear to be largely copies and reuse, with little improvements between generations. I was surprised at just how good, at least my unit is.
Disappointing you couldn't find an FYT unit that meets your needs, they really are great.
At least the FYT unit I have, which is an YIN 53 / Mekede has inputs you mention. It's also listed on the schematic diagram obtained from 4pda.
Regarding the optical output, consider optical provides a multichannel noise immune method to connect a power amp via a single "cable."
Don't forget the MCUs on the MTCx platform are the same between processors, also bugs are widely reported in the MTCD forums, including PX6.
Maybe we agree to disagree.

Disappointing to this point anyway.... they'll probably come around though in time.
I have owned several Joying units over the last 5 years or so, with generally good experiences. Last July/Aug I installed an SC 9853i in my Kluger/Highlander.
Recently a couple of things have gone pear shaped.
1) The google play store needs "uninstall updates" to function (had this with the older devices as well)
2) Waze and google maps are "freezing" sometimes very quickly sometimes after an hour.
3) The built in 4G has disappeared and I now only get 3G/H+ (this is subsequent a firmware update, which installed older modem firmware)
I have been unable to resolve these issues with Joying unfortunately.
They (Joying) were very good in the past sending me a new unit when the screen got a white ring around it, but really have had no luck with them resolving these issues.
I would probably buy a new device off them, but not the same device, the only problem is their website doesn't really have detailed enough information to make an assessment/comparison of the underlying hardware in each of their different models.
Found yet another reason to buy an FYT 7862UIS unit - Bluetooth Low Energy support.
My unit seamlessly connects to my Valentine One gen 2 radar locator. Every time. No hiccups, or pairing required.

Sorry for going slightly off thread topic...
Did you try a reset? and then a firmware reload/update?
I had your first problem until I wiped the system and flashed the latest firmware (which was the same)
The apps freezing might indicate a temperature issue. See if it runs warm/hot?
I never used the 3g 4g module since I hotspot.

Yea. I'm on my 2nd joying for my 2010 Rav4. I highly recommend getting one with buttons/knobs. Its very annoying to change volume by screen touching (even if you have steering controls). It seems the devices go thru these rounds of improvement that go like
Version 1 : great new screen, no buttons, no knobs
Version 2 : same new screen, touch buttons
Version 3 : same new screen, knobs and actual buttons
My only gripe is lack of customization of radio app, and the icons on the launcher have stupid large borders (wish the app icon was simply displayed)
I think they are coming out with a whole new ui

Nah all good, have reset a number of times, and reloaded every version of firmware available to me. I only got the device in 2020 AUG, I feel like it may have had slightly different firmware on it (to what is available for download) based on the screenshots I sent to Joying when I was initially trying to troubleshoot. Yes even wiped completely twip_all.
I think its is running hot 70-90 degrees but this is a recent problem, it ran fine for 12 months.
We use (did use) 4G module for a hotspot in the car for all the passengers, it had worked seamlessly up until joying sent me their firmware
I wish I could identify what model they are selling for the 2018 Highlander, I would just buy a new one. I do like their product, and I'm currently 1 of three dodgy products with no resolution --- Chinese vendors

Seller was Mekede. There is no "brand" on Android head units, only factory. You would be taking a gamble buying from any seller without asking for screenshots of the system info, they might ship a unit from any number of factories and therefore variants.
Question to the Joying owners in here ... Some people were complaining about the old Intel-based chip units from Joying having buggy firmware, I haven't really read this about the new UIS-based units. Did you notice noteworthy bootloops, bugs etc.?

Bought a PX4, not happy. Looking for a replacement.

Hi there,
Recently I bought a PX4 to replace my PX5 radio in my car, a Fiat Punto Evo. The PX5 did work as it should, but I was looking for something new and fresh. Since the PX4 is based on newer technology, and Android 11, I thought this was a step forward. This is an Isudar unit by the way.
However. I noticed the headunit isn't that great. I usually use 2-3 apps (Spotify, Google Maps/Waze and Flitsmeister, a navigational tool for speedtraps and so on) and the radio doesn't perform well when I have these apps opened. Google Maps crashes a lot of times, Flitsmeister freezes and when I want to go back to the homescreen, the screen flickers a few times back and forth. Also, it does reboot all of a sudden.
There is not a possibility to flash or update it since there is zero to little knowledge of the PX4. I'm thinking of the following options:
- Buy a PX6 board and swap it in
- Buy a PX6 headunit
- Maybe there is an alternative
What is a reliable brand in this sector? I see a lot of brands but I don't see the difference...
Cheers,
Jacco
There is no px4 and you don't say if it really is an MTCD type because you haven't posted enough information such as MCU type.
Brands mean little to nothing as the all sell from various factories and are no real "brands" for these Chinese units, only factories.
You want a 7862UIS FYT (4gb+) unit such as what mekede / navifly sell (type 116) These are much less buggy than mtcd type units and you don't need hacky modded firmware to make them work.
Well, there is, it's a RK3566 based one, MTCH_GS_V3.80_3.

Just for clarity, there is no PX4. The unit linked clearly lists PX6.
I no longer recommend the MTCx platform.

Well, actually the details list two options, a PX4 one and a PX6...
But @marchnz is correct in both accounts
1) PX4 is something this guys invented, and is not widely used/accepted (yet). Regarding the CPU they are using, seems to be a slightly improvement/update to the PX5... but very slight improvement (newer tech, more speed per CPU, but less CPUs overall)
2) Even if you go to PX6, those CPUs are old compared to 7862UIS... so buying today a PX6 would be a bad investment. If you really want to reuse the unit and only invest on a CPU board, the only option will be to wait for those manufacturers to adopt the latest chip RK3588 (which has a version RK3588S that looks a lot like a car-oriented chip, even with a CAN bus interface). Of course, you might wait for months and there is no assurance that your MTC-H mainboard will be compatible with it.
By the way, PX5 and PX30 were real Rockchip car-oriented official products. I have never seen any Rockchip original document referring to RK3399 as PX6. I only see this nomenclature on the Android-Auto chinese sites. So, don't kill us if in a few weeks every chinese vendor starts to call RK3566 as PX4
Indeed, I thought the PX4 would be a slight improvement because of the newer technology, but the opposite is true, it's horrendous.
No, a PX6 would be a bad choice. the 7862UIS option would be great but I see nothing which would fit in my car, and waiting for the RK3588 could last a while with the current chip troubles.
I'm not going to kill anybody, no troubles

So, if not reusing the MCU is not a problem for you...what about looking for a 7862UIS with a screen that has the same physical size as your current unit?
All the plastic fascias/stereo-fronts are made (most probably) by the same factory, and then distributed to different radio-manufacturers. Its a very low margin manufacturing business that only works if you do runs with thousands of units produced... is not a business large enough to have multiple providers. So, most probably you will be able to take the fascia of your PX4 and adapt it to any unit (MTC or FYT) as far as the screens are the same size

Question Idoing...

Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well.
Guys, I am so so new at Android Auto head units so I need a lot of help. There is A LOT of information scattered everywhere and somewhat confusing for someone new like me. With that being said here is my question...
Best and latest Doing HU for a 2019 Subaru WRX STI base w/o navigation. I've seen different options and also different prices. Before I pull the trigger on the unit I would like to make sure I am getting the correct unit for my car, the latest unit, with the largest screen, and the most powerful/ fastest unit available as of today.
The main feature I am looking for is wireless Apple CarPlay, and to retain factory functionality of steering controls and stock unit.
Guys, thank you very much in advance to answer all my questions in advance!
Cheers,
Javo

Hi,
Idoing is a made up brand name and seller of various Chinese factory head units.
Is it an FYT based unit being considered, as you've posted in the FYT forum.
Be sure to get details from sellers with screenshots of the unit - this way you can find out what it is you are considering, check the info here and then ensure the unit is what the seller said it would be.
Narrow it down after reading the forums.
