My phone was rooted with unrevoked, then I went through the steps to unroot it. I am s-off on the phone and back to stock but I still get the ! message with the droid guy when trying to apply the latest update. What exactly do I need to change or fix in order to apply this update? PLEASE help!
It's possible that maybe your phone doesn't allow FOTA unless you're S-ON. I've seen weirder things.

If you are s-off then you're still rooted. S-on is unrooted. This shouldn't matter. Maybe your phone is different but Evos can receive ota updates while rooted. Your ROM however must be COMPLETELY stock. Not a stock ROM intended for a rooted device with busy box and super user but stock as in ALL system is unmodified.

Yup, as long as you still have the attribute S-Off on your phone, than you are rooted.
Connect your phone to PC and connect the HTC Sync software, then run the original RUU from the PC. That should do the trick.
Your problem might be that you have uninstalled or frozen some bloatware that came with the original rom. Apps that come from the service providers like vodafone apps etc.
Hey.
My phone: Htc One X is rooted, and a software update just arrived, if i update, will i loose the root?
Or will it in worst chase get bricked?
I regulary update over the air.
Will this remove the root? and must i unlock bootloader and all that stuff i messed with over again if i need to root again?
I wouldn't do that if I were you, you could loss root and have to start all over, and maybe brick your phone, I would wait and see if a dev for this phone could make the update into a Rom, that would be the safe way to go

Ok, but if i want to unroot, and i manage to unroot it, would it then be able to update? or will it then brick?
Cause i like to have my devices up to date.

Ok, what is the most simple way to unroot?
Is it just to delete SU folders and root folders? or must i do alot of CMD flashing?
Superone click, or flash a ruu wich is a completly stock Rom with stock recovery

So wait...let me get this straight. You got a $600 phone and decided to root it. You had no clue what you can and can't do with root up to and including an update. And you rooted your phone without knowing how to get back to stock. I am guessing you don't know how to get back to stock because you used a one click root method. WTF would you root $600 phone for if you had no clue what you were doing, and obviously incapable of reading how to reverse what you have done? This is the problem with one click root methods. You get no understanding of the Android system at all. Can I ask, what was the reason you decided to root??
i did not use oneclickroot, but the tool that xda has as an all in one tool for one x.
I rooted to get the fraps smiliar app screencast but it does not have support for tegra 3...
So yes, if i get it back to its original state, i will not attend any more root anymore.
So please, help me get it back to stock painless
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-hSF9oPgfY
Ok, so to get it back to the state when i got the phone and to be able to update painlessly, i have to flash it with a backup stock ROM?
Bump.
After rooting my device, unlocking the bootloader, and doing s-off, the Chase mobile app wouldn't let me use QuickDeposit. Whenever I clicked on "Take Picture," it'd send me back to the home screen of the app. I downloaded the RootCloak module thinking it was probably an issue with the Chase app not working properly on rooted devices, but that didn't do anything.
I decided to unroot my phone and lock my bootloader to see if that'd work, and well, now it works. If it works now, is there a reason the RootCloak module didn't do anything? Did the locked bootloader have anything to do with it possibly (something that maybe RootCloak can't hide to apps?).
Has anyone else had the same issue on their rooted device, and is there a solution to making QuickDeposit work on a rooted phone that I don't know about?

Hmmm...interesting....My Check/Mobile Deposit for PNC works on my M8 (S-Off, Unlocked and Rooted)....but I can certainly see a banking app running those checks to ensure the phone is secured as possible in order for it to be allowed to perform banking tasks.
Unfortunately I can't assist as I do not bank with Chase to verify the issue you are having.

I have Chase. It has to be something other than root/unlock/S-Off... or if it is because of that, it is specific to the M8.
I have had Chase with a rooted HTC Evo (S-off), Thunderbolt (S-Off), Razr Maxx (rooted only), Razr Maxx HD (and the HD got unlocked before I switched phones), Droid DNA (S-off I believe, definitely rooted), Galaxy S4 (rooted and unlocked, then just rooted when my original phone died and was stuck with a new phone with a locked boot loader), and currently using a Note 3 (rooted) and I have no issues doing a quick deposit (The Galaxy line had a bug but has since been fixed, unrelated to root). The M8 I had (and is now on the second line of my account) is rooted but I am unsure if a check deposit has been attempted on it.
So I am 100% sure it is not because of the root/unlock/S-Off, BUT, it might be something to do with a new check that HTC does. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hmm interesting. Would there be any way you could try it on the M8 that's on the second line of your account? You don't even have to have a check to deposit, you just have to click the "Take Picture" button on the QuickDeposit screen and see what happens. I'm going to try re-rooting my phone in a little bit to see if maybe it'll work this time.

On a side note, does anyone know how to unlock the bootloader again? I locked it to test all this out, when I go back to try to unlock the bootloader, the firewater script says "there isn't a helluva lot to do here" since I'm already S-Off. If I recall correctly, the firewater script was to do S-Off and to unlock the bootloader, correct?

I'm using the WeakSauce temporary root for now, and it's still working. However, I'm still on a locked bootloader (I'm trying to figure out how to unlock it again since firewater says there's nothing to do). Once I get the unlocked bootloader back, I'm going to do a permanent root and try the Chase app again. If only I could figure out how to unlock the bootloader...

Step 13 of this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708628) states this:
"When completely successfully, you now have S-OFF. Your phone's bootloader is also unlocked in the process; you do NOT need to perform any additional steps to unlock the bootloader. However, you do not have permanent root. The root that weaksuace provides goes away on reboot and must be reapplied again on startup."
Not sure if that helps or not.

The problem is that I've already used the firewater script in the past to unlock my bootloader and to get S-OFF. But, I had to relock my bootloader earlier today as part of my process to try to fix my Chase app issue. My phone is still S-OFF but has a locked bootloader now, so when I try to run the firewater script again, it sees that my phone is S-OFF already and says there's nothing more to do, leaving me with my bootloader still locked. I used a command prompt earlier to lock my bootloader, but can't find the command script that'll unlock it again.
I have an m7 and ever since updating the app I don't have quick deposit working either. So I think it's a problem with the app not the phone.

Hey guys as you can tell I made the switched after I had and unfortunate issue with my previous phone. Pretty much the act of god and stupid me I didnt have insurance on it so I had to start a new line and fork over the 220$ price tag, but anyways. I got the phone last night, and it's an amazing phone. For some reason i always been afraid to try out HTC. For some reason seemed to complex to me, but after I did more research it actually isn't.
I have a few questions and maybe I can get some help:
1) I follow root junky on youtube, and pretty much watched all his videos on the Verizon M8. From my understanding after reading through the forums that firewater will not work on newer m8 models, and that I would have to pay 25$ and get sunshine. This true about firewater? I had seen a few post about people saying it works, and more saying that it wont. I do have the newest sense 6, and and the update came to the phone.
2) I also noticed about the temporary root access apk, and that with a phone reboot it resets itself. So if i do the root and then obtain the root and use titanium back up that actually resets also?
3) I went threw the forum again about water proof/ dust proof, drop proof cases. Anyone here have one or used one and what do you think?
4) Lastly if I do the sunshine is that considered full root, and then I can add twrp through flashify, and then roms if I decide to go that route?
Thanks in advance,
the_rooter
Firewater is working on some people's still. It depends what hardware the phone has for some reason. So your process to root and soff will be, following the threads here.
Use weak sauce to temp root, download SuperSU after, do not open the app or anything. Don't try and update binaries or anything.
Then use firewater, using the correct directions, there's 3 different sets if I recall. Just pick the right one that is for using weak sauce root.
Then if firewater works great, you'll be soff and unlocked. If not, buy sunshine and run it. Then you'll get soff and unlocked.
You'll then get rid of SuperSU and uninstall weak sauce app as well.
Then flash a recovery. I'd suggest fastboot flashing it, but I guess flashify would work. But you'll already have fastboot working if you tried firewater so might as well flash twrp with fastboot.
Once you have your recovery, download the latest SuperSU zip found here in chainfires thread and flash it in twrp. Then reboot and you will be permanent rooted. Then you can flash all the Roms or whatever you want.
Hope that helps.

No, you just try firewater. It really is easy. And if it works great, if not, no big deal. It will tell you, whelp, this won't ever work for your device is it fails. Then just use sunshine. Just read the how to threads and it really is simple. Droidmodderx on YouTube has a couple videos that are Verizon specific that may lend a hand too.

Once your s-off you will stay s-off unless they release an update ota and it can affect s-off and you flash it, in that case sunshine is supposed to work for your device once again. Just dont flash any new update until you know for sure that it wont affect s-off.

Pretty sure once you're s-off, you're s-off until you restore s-on. Flashing a custom rom won't change the secure write status.

Yup, I know total newb question. I decided to unroot my phone a while back because honestly I knew I wasn't going to have time to mess around with the phone like I have in the past. I unrooted it and thought I did everthing right. Root checker says it's not rooted. However my phone has since messed up and broken and HTC is going to help me out under warranty and send me a refurbished one.
The phone is urooted but says it's unlocked and Supersu will not uninstall. When I turn it on using Power and volume down it says it's MODIFIED. I've since deleted everthing that helped me root the phone through the mack, all the files, etc.
Any help on how to get this back to normal? I've heard in a few places that they don't particularly care but I didn't want them to charge me once they receive the item.
Thanks for the help.

Locked is locked. Whether relocked or locked. You cannot fix that without being s-off. If you are still on kitkat you could pay $25 via sunshine to s-off and fix it to say locked and then turn s back on.
Well I'm going to send the phone out and see what happens. Thanks for your help in this thread.
