[Q] Can't take off supersu and re-lock. - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Yup, I know total newb question. I decided to unroot my phone a while back because honestly I knew I wasn't going to have time to mess around with the phone like I have in the past. I unrooted it and thought I did everthing right. Root checker says it's not rooted. However my phone has since messed up and broken and HTC is going to help me out under warranty and send me a refurbished one.
The phone is urooted but says it's unlocked and Supersu will not uninstall. When I turn it on using Power and volume down it says it's MODIFIED. I've since deleted everthing that helped me root the phone through the mack, all the files, etc.
Any help on how to get this back to normal? I've heard in a few places that they don't particularly care but I didn't want them to charge me once they receive the item.
Thanks for the help.

Are you s-on?

I am, I remember I used this video but it did not lock and the supersu never uninstalled.
I'm trying to use these steps but it doesn't work, even though it finds my device:

The best you can do then for now is to fastboot oem lock
And then run an s-on ruu that is the same or higher than what you have.

Will I be able to take off the supersu app at some point during this process? It will not uninstall

Just do the zip method. I have them all posted in one thread.

Here:

Nice, thanks! I'm running the fast boot oem right now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hmm, I put the zip file and it says it can't open it...

Success, I wish it didn't say relocked but it no longer says modified, it states official on the banner.

If the ruu wasn't lollipop and you paid for sunshine in the past you could do sunshine again and fix it

It was on lollipop and I didn't have the sunshine app.

is there any other way to fix that? What's the general consensus, will HTC void the warranty?

Locked is locked. Whether relocked or locked. You cannot fix that without being s-off. If you are still on kitkat you could pay $25 via sunshine to s-off and fix it to say locked and then turn s back on.

Well I'm going to send the phone out and see what happens. Thanks for your help in this thread.

Going from rooted 1.73 to rooted, unlocked 1.85?

Yes, I have searched all over this forum, but since 2.20 was released, a lot of threads and methods are out of date. I got my AT&T One XL back when everyone pre-ordered it, but I've just now come around to creating an account now that I have a question.
I rooted 1.73 about a month ago and was content, but now that CM10 nightlies are out, I want to try CM10. My HOX is my first ever Android phone, and so I've been trying to learn terms like 'flash' and 'boot into', but it's all still a bit fuzzy, even after research. However, I do know how to read, and so if instructions are specific, I'll be able to do it.
So, can someoneexplain an up to date method of how to go from rooted 1.73 to rooted and unlocked 1.85 to me, it would be much appreciated. I really don't want to mess it up! Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
no need to go to 1.85 at all. your phone is rooted so now just run the oneclick superCID tool to unlock the bootloader on HTCDev
after that install twrp recovery and then the rom of your choice.

Oh, thanks! I've successfully unlocked my phone's bootloader using that method. However, upon the first boot, an AT&T update automatically started downloading. I have not installed it. Should I delete it or go ahead with it?

I'm sure you can delete it but I don't know where to tell you to look. I have never taken an ota update.

[Q] AT&T htc one x OTA update Brick question

I bought my Htc one X in November through AT&T and I have never had to update it until today. I download and install and everything goes fine. Then it doesn't reboot. When I plug in to do ruu (checked forums) it couldn't recognize my phone. I never rooted my phone or unlocked the boot loader. Is there a way for them to tell at the store if it was at one point rooted? I have seen other posts about people bricking their phones with this update when they are rooted so I have to ask... Is their any solution to my problem before I go to the store tomorrow?
Sounds fishy

If the phone doesn't turn on, they won't be able to check anything at the AT&T service station. Per my ow bricking of my HTC One X (which was rooted, unlocked then relocked).

Are you under contract with AT&T? Why are you so concerned? If you never rooted, and the OTA bricked your phone, you can get a new one.
If you're not under contract, they're going to tell you to get lost.

There are ways to tell if you're rooted, but they almost never bother. If you never rooted, you've got nothing to worry about.
people bricked recently because they took the jb ota without being s-off and had supercid. if you are s-off with supercid you'd be fine. did you install the htc drivers? HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
to check if the the phone has been unlocked or rooted before volume down + power for a long time. should see ***Tampered,Unlocked, or Relocked***

[Q] Chase Bank mobile app issues?

After rooting my device, unlocking the bootloader, and doing s-off, the Chase mobile app wouldn't let me use QuickDeposit. Whenever I clicked on "Take Picture," it'd send me back to the home screen of the app. I downloaded the RootCloak module thinking it was probably an issue with the Chase app not working properly on rooted devices, but that didn't do anything.
I decided to unroot my phone and lock my bootloader to see if that'd work, and well, now it works. If it works now, is there a reason the RootCloak module didn't do anything? Did the locked bootloader have anything to do with it possibly (something that maybe RootCloak can't hide to apps?).
Has anyone else had the same issue on their rooted device, and is there a solution to making QuickDeposit work on a rooted phone that I don't know about?

Hmmm...interesting....My Check/Mobile Deposit for PNC works on my M8 (S-Off, Unlocked and Rooted)....but I can certainly see a banking app running those checks to ensure the phone is secured as possible in order for it to be allowed to perform banking tasks.
Unfortunately I can't assist as I do not bank with Chase to verify the issue you are having.

I have Chase. It has to be something other than root/unlock/S-Off... or if it is because of that, it is specific to the M8.
I have had Chase with a rooted HTC Evo (S-off), Thunderbolt (S-Off), Razr Maxx (rooted only), Razr Maxx HD (and the HD got unlocked before I switched phones), Droid DNA (S-off I believe, definitely rooted), Galaxy S4 (rooted and unlocked, then just rooted when my original phone died and was stuck with a new phone with a locked boot loader), and currently using a Note 3 (rooted) and I have no issues doing a quick deposit (The Galaxy line had a bug but has since been fixed, unrelated to root). The M8 I had (and is now on the second line of my account) is rooted but I am unsure if a check deposit has been attempted on it.
So I am 100% sure it is not because of the root/unlock/S-Off, BUT, it might be something to do with a new check that HTC does. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Hmm interesting. Would there be any way you could try it on the M8 that's on the second line of your account? You don't even have to have a check to deposit, you just have to click the "Take Picture" button on the QuickDeposit screen and see what happens. I'm going to try re-rooting my phone in a little bit to see if maybe it'll work this time.

On a side note, does anyone know how to unlock the bootloader again? I locked it to test all this out, when I go back to try to unlock the bootloader, the firewater script says "there isn't a helluva lot to do here" since I'm already S-Off. If I recall correctly, the firewater script was to do S-Off and to unlock the bootloader, correct?

I'm using the WeakSauce temporary root for now, and it's still working. However, I'm still on a locked bootloader (I'm trying to figure out how to unlock it again since firewater says there's nothing to do). Once I get the unlocked bootloader back, I'm going to do a permanent root and try the Chase app again. If only I could figure out how to unlock the bootloader...

Step 13 of this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708628) states this:
"When completely successfully, you now have S-OFF. Your phone's bootloader is also unlocked in the process; you do NOT need to perform any additional steps to unlock the bootloader. However, you do not have permanent root. The root that weaksuace provides goes away on reboot and must be reapplied again on startup."
Not sure if that helps or not.

The problem is that I've already used the firewater script in the past to unlock my bootloader and to get S-OFF. But, I had to relock my bootloader earlier today as part of my process to try to fix my Chase app issue. My phone is still S-OFF but has a locked bootloader now, so when I try to run the firewater script again, it sees that my phone is S-OFF already and says there's nothing more to do, leaving me with my bootloader still locked. I used a command prompt earlier to lock my bootloader, but can't find the command script that'll unlock it again.
I have an m7 and ever since updating the app I don't have quick deposit working either. So I think it's a problem with the app not the phone.

[Q] Recently Locked Bootloader, S-ON & Unrooted TAMPERED FLAG

So, I needed to return my phone back to stock recently (yes, HTC ONE M8 VERIZON).
Followed the directions posted here and all went perfect. Did have to purchase the "Universal Unroot" app to get SuperSU to uninstall.
About 20 minutes later, I get a notification stating there was an update from Verizon for OTA. I follow the onscreen prompts (figured, what does it matter, phone is stock again) after the install, I get a prompt stating the phone has been tampered (or something to that affect), so I load the bootloader and I see the *** TAMPERED *** flag on the top.
Is there anyway to get that removed now that I am no longer rooted, on S-OFF and my bootloader is locked again... Before turning the phone back in to Verizon?
Did you take a nandroid backup after rooting? If so just flash that. As for the ota, they are more trouble than they are worth most of the time. You can just grab the radio and firmware from it, posted in the development area, then flash nusense6 custom Rom to get 4.4.3. It's mostly stock.

thanks for the tip, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel, tomorrow I may be all good.
I can tell you 100% for sure that Sunshine does work with stock Verizon 4.4.3. They updated their thread with that information. You'll probably have to pay the 25$ (if you haven't already paid it before) but it is seriously the easiest S-OFF exploit there is. You just install the apk, open it, you get a prompt for payment either paypal or credit card, then it runs compatibility tests and then S-OFFs. You literally have to do nothing but install the apk. You don't even need root to use it. It does it all itself. After you run Sunshine, fastboot flash the latest TWRP, then flash SuperSU zip for root. (you can get that here: http://download.chainfire.eu/420/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99.zip ) and your are good to go. Resetting the tampered flag may be difficult though. I'm sure someone has done it somewhere though.

Your prolly right. I would still try it tho. If you paid for Sunshine I would definitely contact Jcase on IRC.
alright, so jcase just worked his magic on my phone...

i am now back to stock ROM, S-OFF, Unlocked bootloader, stock recovery & rooted
i followed the instructions here once jcase got me all sorted out with the above...
what i see becoming an issue is, I am on verizon software version 2.21.605.2...
all I want to do is get my phone to a state where I can return it to verizon from here...
I have read the 2 major write ups I have found on returning a phone to stock but, they are all for previous versions of verizon software...
anyone have any ideas/links to give a brother a hand?

i am now back to stock ROM, S-OFF, Unlocked bootloader, stock recovery & rooted
i followed the instructions here once jcase got me all sorted out with the above...
what i see becoming an issue is, I am on verizon software version 2.21.605.2...
all I want to do is get my phone to a state where I can return it to verizon from here...
I have read the 2 major write ups I have found on returning a phone to stock but, they are all for previous versions of verizon software...
anyone have any ideas/links to give a brother a hand?

Well they will work. You could use the RUU and return to 1.55.605.2. Doesn't matter what version you are on now, it will work. It will put you at almost 100% stock. Just re-lock the bootloader with a command and you can send it back.

[Q] Just bought a brand new HTC M8 need help

The phone is still on 4.4.2 and tried to OTA update but I quickly caught it and put on airplane mode and disabled all radios.
So the question is, how can I root it and S off?
Android Version:4.4.2
Software Number 1.55.605.2
Kernel 3.4.0-gfa487c9

Root with WeakSauce, then find Firewater to unlock that thing immediately. After you're unlocked, then use the RUU running around here to update.

Is Forrester an app? Also whats RUU?
No harm but honestly, don't you think somebody has posted this somewhere on a development forum for such a popular device. Go to the HTC one m8 general forum and then look at the posts. Somebody has completed a thread specifically detailing how to root, s-off, bootloader unlock, and flash a custom recovery.

whelp, this sucks, firewater can not work on your device
no amount of reflashing, retrying, or ruuing will fix...
DO NOT COME TO IRC ASKING FOR UPDATES OR ETAS!!!!!!
if we are able to fix this issue, it will be announced
bye bye.....sorry it didn't work out.
Keep getting this sadly

Uninstall supersu and weaksauce, then install weaksauce then install supersu but DO NOT OPEN SUPERSU ever not until after your done with firewater. When your phone reboots while using firewater right after android loads open the weaksauce app and make sure it shows you have root access. This is where it usually fails because weaksauce is not giving root access during the use of firewater, when you manually open weaksauce it will give root access then firewater will work.
tried and it did not work, this is driving me nuts
Just use the sunshine method if the others not working. I mean that's what I would do.

After adb reboot and before running the rest of the command open weaksauce. Then continue.

Exactly that was what I listed lol. Because sometimes weaksauce will not give root access and if it does not then trying the rest of firewater will not work, you open weaksauce and make sure it confirms you have root access otherwise reboot phone and start over just never open supersu until after firewater has given you s-off. This is where many people cant get firewater to work because they are assuming weaksauce gave them root and it may take weaksauce a while to give root access so you need to open weaksauce then finish with the steps on firewater. It took me a few m8's to figure out but it really makes a lot of sense.
disable OTA -prior to root?
Been looking around for a solid answer to this and haven't been able to find one. Since this thread is essentially what I am looking to do (get M8 now, hope it still has 4.4.3 or lower) and unlock and root prior to taking any OTA, figured I would ask here as it very much related to the OP.
Is there a way to disable the OTA update prior to being rooted? I'll need to turn on the phone after I receive it and it will go through the normal setup so I can check the OS version prior to running any unlock/root method. During this time I am sure VZW will try and push the OTA. I know I can 'postpone' the install (usually) but wasn't sure if there was a better, more permanent way to lock out the OTA from happening just to be safe.
Thanks

The ota you can chose to not install it just dont hit install and dont mess with the update at all, and try firewater but from what I have seen posted most cant get it to work any more, my advice is try a few times and look at the tips listed in various posts but be prepared to have to use sunshine. Its $25 but if you have to use it then you have to use it, otherwise you will just be wasting your time where you could be enjoying the benefits of s-off. Either that or sell it and go with at&t or tmobile and use htc dev for free and live fine with s-on, those are pretty much your only choices, good luck and enjoy when your unlocked.

That is exactly what I did. Could not get Firewater to work, so went with Sunshine and worked like a charm. I now have TWRP and SuperSU installed and ready to go.
One question though - the OTA file did get downloaded and it was big...... anyone know where that file gets downloaded to so I can delete it to free up space? Been searching on the phone and online and can't find a good answer (it isn't in cache).

You did look in download on your internal memory right ? You could just do a full wipe of everything except ext sd card, then just make sure everything except ext sd is selected, or take sd out. Just have your rom of choice on your sd card ie mine would be viperone 3.1.0 lol. Another thing to get a full wipe make sure everything is mounted in the twrp mount settings.
If my suggestions help you please hit the thanks option at the bottom left of my post please.
