I just bought this device as a toy and a test as a computer tablet. I found it to be slow and buggy. I do notice that in browsing heavy pages like the real facebook page it IS faster than my Galaxy Note 1 but in almost everything else, the Note is faster and snappier. I have disabled lots of apps, resett it, no change. So my question, I guess this one is really worth rooting and installing a good rom Im used to the Cyanogen to my phones, is Cyanogen working good for this tablet?
Im still marveled by the quality of the screen, I dont think I ever have seen such a good screen! If I just now could get it working somewhat near as good as my Note 1 I will be a happy panda

My experience is that it is NOT slow and buggy.
I could compare it with an iPad3 last week and I think they are very close.
You can't compare it with a note because due to the much higher resolution the gpu has to do so much more computing. That is why the nexus7 is faster than the tf700 due to it's smaller screen AND resolution

I'm on stock rom with browser2ram and force2gpu enabled. My table is very fast. Just remember before you flash a new rom, just do factory reset(data wipe 3 times). Also root is good (allow you to install rooted app like Titinium backup, SetcPU etc..), but don't unlock unless absolutely necessary (void your warranty), or you have time or like to play with custom rom.
Ok, sounds like I will root it then and try to tweak it, Im not satisfied with the speed with it sofar. Its seems stable now after I resetted it, before the reset, it crasched 2-10 times a day. My idea was that since the GPU and CPU is older in the Note, The Tegra 3 would be able to handle the FullHD resolution but it doesnt seem to .. I definatly want a ROM without the garbage crap

Yes, all games, videos, pictures, and documents and apps are function normally. There are 3 most popular office apps:
1. Documents to go (this can view google docs also. Paid version only)
2. Kingsoft office
3. Polaris office (currently polaris has a bug with fonts).
My stock browser can view google docs fine. I think stock browser is the best in my opinion (have tried boat, chrome, mozilla etc...)

The Infinity's performance is not CPU bound and is not due to the higher res. It's I/O limited. The CPU is plenty fast enough. As soon as the memory config requires the system to start hitting the /sdcard memory, the system will be subject to random stuttering/pausing because the sdcard memory is the cheapest, slowest, crappiest flash RAM ASUS could find.
This is why stuff like browser2ram is seen as a huge boost for people that do a lot of browsing and it is also why the stuttering varies from user to user/session to session since the RAM situation in the system varies from config to config and moment to moment during use. Some users who's config has a lot of free DRAM and do not frequently use stuff that hits the sdcard partition hard, see almost no performance issues with the tablet.

I guess I'm going to do the downgrade to ICS .30\root\then try the rootkreeper deal back to Belly Jean.
I really don't want to go thru all this, but if I want to keep chipping away trying to find a better Android experience then so be it.

Thanx for the info! That was my biggest thoughts about the Infinity, "is the RAM enough?" and it isnt but then Ill just have to multitask less and try to tweak it. And perhaps dont install multipicture wallpaper.. but thats one of the things that I love about my Note

Hmmm, I've found mine to be quick and virtually bug-free, but then again I didn't buy it as a toy.
A little tweaking and I wouldn't call it slow. Even stock its a solid piece of equipment.
Apply data2sd mod built for CleanROM 2 after installing the ROM. You'll need a fast sd card.
Research the threads. The blob for data2sd for that ROM was just posted today.

I own both the Infinity and the Acer a700 and after the a700 got JB earlier today, I will say that the Infinity lags more than the a700 (and I was very happy with the Infinity). Colour me shocked.
The only time I really ever experience any lag or sluggishness is when browsing. I will be rooting once there is a method discovered for Jelly Bean on the Infinity. I'd really like to give browser2ram a shot. I've heard it does wonders for browsing.

Before i say thing, I will list the important things about my tablet - C7 model, Has been repaired for speaker issues & Jelly bean 4.1.1. I'd say TF700T is a powerful device, It lacks the software for it. I use to notice quiet a bit of lag on ICS but after upgraded to Jelly bean, It's faster than ever! I would even compare it to iPad 3:laugh: I'm running Stock Jelly bean with a bit of removing apps here and there.
I Don't know why everyone is having problems with such a decent device.

I you guys would read the Development section (read the newer threads, please) you would see that CleanROM2.2 has pretty much completely eliminated the lag and i/o issues. It's reason enough to root and unlock. This tablet is a beast when it is allowed to begin to reach its full potential.

Im rooted and installed CleanRom2.2 this morning and it is indeed faster and smoother i will try the tweaking you guys suggested later. It still lagged when i downloaded my spotify playlists while i was downloading youtube movies tho

If it was really laggy and something that i can't deal with i would unlock but since it feels flawless, I might stay. I don't give a crap about their warranty but i do care for my device (brick)

It's the total opposite for me. ICS was fast and virtually lag-free. The latest updates to Jellybean my Infinity lags like nobody's business. Very disappointing. Looks like root'n'rom time.

I believe that's a reference to the "force gpu rendering" in settings under developer options.

I have read a lot of the I/O bottleneck problems about the TF700, and using Data2SD is the best alternative the development has to offer to solve this.
The question I have of concern is whether I should do this now or later? I have gotten myself a new replacement of the TF700, and successfully rooted, unlocked, and Inherited the Clean ROM Inheritance. Doing this is something I'm not sure I want to do now considering the internal is still running pretty okay right now.
If I do wait it out and then decide to do this, would it be too late? I'm just wondering would I get optimal speed of performance once utilize the Data2SD after the degradation of the internal?

Personally I think CROMI with browser2ram resolves most io problems.

No, you can switch to it whenever you want in the future without any restrictions.
Sbdags and _that are much, much more knowledgeable than teeny me, but I also think CROMI currently solves most problems that the 700 had at launch time. Some I/O issue will remain under the surface, but it's been fair sailing so far for me (admittedly, I did not have that much issue with it anyway ).
I tried getting data2sd to work -- curiosity finally won over cautiousness -- but I could not, for the love of all that is holy, get it work properly, at least not in the first six tries. Minitool ruined my microSD card, although Gparted was able to recover it. <phew> I then proceeded to install data2sd. Although apparently correctly installed, I noticed very little benefit.
As I said, it could be speculated that my microSD card is screwy (I'm shopping around for a new Sandisk 32 or 64 GB Class 10), and I would have nothing to base a denial on. A better card might have shown a tremendous degree of improvement, making me use my 700 so intensely that I'd drain all available power from the one nuclear power station in the Netherlands, making it melt-down all the way to China, making them retaliate, thus ending the world a few days late.
I doubt the latter, however, and will stick with CROMI as it is. Just great.
I use my tabby for the internet. Mail, youtube, browsing. Clean Rom and browser2ram has eliminated my io troubles. In fact, i'm running CR 2.72 and haven't bothered to upgrade because i just don't feel the need.
Plenty of folks have had luck with data2sd. I was not one of them. With two different cards, i had similiar results. It wouldn't run reliably for more than an hour.

haha, i even used minitools and it still worked!...
i am still using the tweaked recovery from fordwolden's thread and luv it!
downloading 2gb games and still surfin, grab a torrent,update apps,blah,blah..
yeh,sometimes you go too far and stop for 5sec: overall :good:
mine is permanent and just waiting for cards to catch up to ram/bus/cpu ,etc
I can now look into this, as my 64GB UHS-1 Sandisks arrived yesterday. They're now installed in the Infinity, and I want to play.
Soon enough, though, I might unlock and try Cromi....

I still get lag when downloading apps in particular when its trying to install after it downloads. Also transition lag in opening apps is still there as well as scrolling though the recent app list but mainly when youre in the home screen or again while apps are installing. Games still lag as well from time to time. But games do open faster.
The only advantage I see with the data2sd is app opens slightly faster like heavy HD games. IMO data2sd is not a must if you're already running CROMI as it doesn't make a lot of difference.

I felt pretty newbie asking about what CROMI is when I didn't realize it stands for Clean ROM Inheritance. Not only that, but I also have Browser2RAM installed not too long ago.
Anyway, I really don't have any HD Games to boot into my tablet yet since I don't see a lot of choices offered in my interest. If doing data2sd really isn't of importance, then I guess my question is resolved. Thanks guys!
As we are too well aware, the A700 isn't the quickest tablet around. A problem fixed quite largely by using the Cool One firmware and the Tegra OC kernel. But there is something else you could try; Seeder which has recently garnered quite some attention.

I'm currently running IconiaN 2.4 and I installed Seeder a little while ago via CWM and tried a few things. Maps is definitely faster like most have said. I played a couple games and I found Edge and Edge Extended to be roughly the same, Pitfall is the same, Beach Buggy Blitz is the same, and so is Sword and Sworcery. TigerArcade (a Mame type emulator) runs WAAAY better now, not sure why, but it might be because the games I'm playing use a caching system to load on the emulator. I'm going to try Need for Speed Most Wanted as that ran like garbage last time I played it and I hope it may be slightly better this time around. Non gaming apps: Youtube is lot more responsive than it used to be, ES File Explorer seems faster as well, not 100% sure, Android Browser and Chrome both seem roughly the same but haven't done extensive testing. Lastly unlocking and hitting home from within apps is definitely smoother and faster like others have been saying.
My recommendation is to go ahead and give it a go as it seems like its worth it, plus if there are updates to it that make it any better you can just CWM those right over the current version with no need to wipe cache or data at all.:cyclops:

I have a Sensation 4G running Android Revolution HD 6.7.2 (bought used, came with, never changed it). I'm generally pretty happy with this situation, but there are two specific situations where it just slows to a crawl. As far as i can recall, it's always been this way for these two situations. (I've been using the phone with this ROM for about a year.)
The first situation is when I install any new app or even an update for an app. For several minutes after that, everything is very sluggish. I can still use the phone, but it's a huge pain. This is true whether or not I try to use the just-installed app or update. My best guess about this (and it's only a guess) is that the slow-down is due to populating the Dalvik cache for the new/updated app. Still, that seems like it ought to be a background thing with only minor impact on foreground performance.
The second situation is when I run the Chrome browser. Other browsers (native, FireFox, Puffin) are just fine. When I run Chrome, things really, really, really tank. When I use the developer option to overlay the load average on the screen, I've seen it go as high as 65. I don't care what kind of phone hardware you have ... if your load average is 65, you are not having a good day. Anyhow, things stay zonked pretty much forever, even if I don't actually do anything in Chrome, and even if it's in the background. I've waited literally hours hoping that something just had to "settle", but no luck. I often resort to a battery pull after Chrome experiments because it's too sluggish to wait for the power button long press. (I have Chrome on a couple other mobile devices, and it behaves just fine there.)
Anybody got any clues about things for me to try to alleviate by undeserved suffering?

7.3 has just come out,with very few problems reported.

Long ago, on another phone, I was one of those guys who regularly flashed ROMs in chase of ... something (I forget what ). Now, I'm just a guy who wants to use his phone every day with the zillion little application customizations and preferences and whatnot. If I decided to endure the pain of setting everything up again (and I'm probably exaggerating that pain in my brain-pan), I'd probably just flash back to stock. Although the ROM might be the problem, the specific nature of the two problems makes me hope/think/wonder that it might be just some setting somewhere that needs a punch in the arm.
Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I'll go poke around the changelogs for Android Revolution and see what's to see.

The first issue is because of our slow internal memory. The stall happening when updating/installing an app is because of long I/O waits it probably might happen over other custom roms you try here too but not as long as you said.. I used to have sluggish behavior couple of seconds after app installation (max 10 seconds). Now the only roms which were able to bypass this issue were the sense 4+ jellybean roms viz revelation / viperS 3.1.0 roms. If you want to prevent this annoying issue then change to either of those above roms.. Somehow jellybean roms were able to keep those I/O waits less.
Now to the second issue.. Sensation by default has less ram (yes 768 MB is not enough for ics/JB roms). Now when you fill your device with apps due to true multitasking nature of the Android lots of apps keep on running in the background (even restarting by themselves when killed). And Chrome is one Ram eating b***h it at least needs 50MB of memory (where other browsers like dolphin browser can run smooth over 20MB ram) so it's always slow for me takes ages to open up properly. So my suggestion is switch to different browser or install an app called "greenify" (rooted app.. You need to give root permissions) . The advantage of using this greenify app is it can hibernate persistent apps.. Thus giving you enough ram and battery. Greenify is one acclaimed rooted app which does what it says. Try it and see how the device is doing after this

FWIW, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the latest ARHD. At first glance, it seems to have dealt with these two performance items. However, I'm still installing/configuring some of the assorted junk I had before. I'm on the lookout for the one thing that clobbers me and will report here if I find such a thing. (I'm also working through a couple of FCs of system stuff, but that's not for this thread.)
So I typically root almost all my android devices once I get them. My Infinity was the first device I tried keeping stock unrooted as long as possible. I will be honest with saying that there were some times that I didn't even think about the fact if it was rooted or not. Unlike my phone I really only use it for class from time to time to take notes and mostly read books/comics or play games. However, I was utterly floored by the speed difference that my friend got out of his by rooting his. He picked up a TF700 about a month ago from ebay and rooted it the other day. We then spent yesterday testing it out with similar loads. His battery life was about an hour better than mine doing relatively the same thing (head to head gaming), watching netflix, and browsing a few comics. What really got me was the speed and decrease in lag. Honestly I didn't even realize the lag was so bad on mine (I guess I had grown use to it) compared to his.
So my question is this: Would I get even better performance / stability / battery life out of changing the rom to say Cyano or Paranoid or is the stock ROM minus the apps and a few tweaks from the threads the best I am going to get?
If anyone has any expriences they are willing to share with me I would greatly appreciate it.

I personally like Cromi/Cromi-X. I used Cyano for a while but settled on Cromi for the speed. Cromi is based on stock and optimized for speed, so if don't care about additional customization, I would say go for Cromi. But you will lose your warranty if you unlock the tablet to install custom ROMs. Not sure about stability/battery life improvements but I've never had issues with either on Cromi.

This is my two cents. Any custom rom and kernel that you pick will be faster than the stock. I am using Cromi X 4.7 and Hund 3.3.2. I believe that they are very major and stable. The battery life is depended on how you set your device up. Wifi and screen brightness are the most battery consumptions of all. You can go to the wifi advance setting and set it to never use wifi during sleep. You can lower the brightness of your screen unless you are outside to use the ips+. You can also set your turn off screen to one or two minutes before it goes to sleep. With all of that can give more battery back. You will be happy with Crmi X with your choice of kernel..

I wanted to thank both of you for all the help that you have provided. This was great advice and Cromi-X works amazingly. While I was drawn to CM by its features, trying out the speed of Crom definitely was a high point for me. The difference from the stock (even stock rooted with apps pulled) and Crom is night and day.

I think when the Cromi X 5.0 RC1, you should give it a shot. I think that it will be even better than the previous versions..
