I've downloaded drivers to my PC, tried to use HTC dev and WinDroid HTC toolkit but I keep getting error messages. I know how to use the toolkit but I think I'm unpacking it wrong and not setting it up right. Any help would be great thanks.

What kinds of errors are you getting?
This when i open the application
the data folder is missing! many or all functions may not work correctly, and multiple errors may arise.
pretty sure I'm just being a noob

It sounds like either the toolkit files weren't extracted correctly or there was an error while downloading. When you download the toolkit zip, you should extract all the contents, and there should be the toolkit exe file and the Data folder.
Ok thank you. I will try again as soon as I can.
Hi, so I got the toolkit to open properly and along the bottom it recognizes my device but there is no "get devices" under the adb commands. I clicked on the "get token id" but then it just keeps working for really long. Waited about a half hour. If I need to leave it longer that's cool just not sure. Thanks
Help.....

If you updated to v21y with kdz updater then use the same method that worked for you but select the v21e kdz file for use.
Get the v21e kdz file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24599112
thank you Core memory
Done in 5 minutes ,
Back to ICS
Flashing v21E from 21Y did not work for me. told me that I was up to date. Had to flash using "KDZ_FW_UPD" and make sure you flash using windows xp and not xp mode for windows 7. which failed for me but may work for you.

Using the update app called "KDZ_FW_UPD" it would crash every time. But using windows xp on a partition Harddisk worked fine. Windows xp mode also failed for me, when it disconnects the usb is does not reconnect it. even if i reconnect it it wont go any further.
I have tried this on windows 7, XP, even vista just to see. I have followed multiple guides and used multiple methods. I just can't get it to work and it has become an unhealthy obsession. I neeeed v21e back. Does anybody have ANY tips to get this to work beyond what's already out there?

The kdz program doesn't tell you that it completed though, kinda weird. If it doesn't work the first try then try again! It worked 2nd try for me (forgot to restore stock recovery) I'm on XP if it matters.

Ok, I'd been on the Sense 5 Rom and Elemental 6.7 for a while. Today I noticed that my phone wasn't going to sleep and was normally clocked around 1.0 Ghz no matter what it was doing. I tried changing the settings with No-frills cpu control but it didnt work. Long story short: I rebooted into recovery and reflashed the kernel to see if it would fix the problem. I used the stock elemental x settings (no overclock or undervoltage). The kernel flashed, I pressed reboot and the phone went dark... It wont cut on, holding the power button does nothing and plugging it into the computer gets me the qhsusb_dload message that I've read isnt a good thing to have. However most people who had this problem seem to have gotten it from RUU while S-On, my phone was S-Off so I'm wondering does that help my chances any, and is there anything I can do to restore my phone?
Try the unbrick evita thread. You'll need to run linux by live usb or live CD if you don't run linux. A virtual machine could work too.
If you can make it past step 3 and the partitions are intact, you can restore your phone.

I tried the unbrick evita thread but the zip is no longer posted on dropbox. I worked up to step 3 and there are some /dev/sda/ folders which I am presuming are the partitions... I can't find the unbrick_evita.zip file so if anyone has it I would really appreciate it. If I can find it on my own I'll update this thread. Thanks in advance.

There should be a bunch of partitions Like in the picture in the unbrick thread if you only have 3 or 4 or 5 then it not recoverable.

If you are in QHSUSB-DLMODE after trying to install RUU, OTA, or a custom kernel, you are pretty much done, aside from JTAG or sending it to HTC. I don't believe anybody has unbricked from any of these conditions.

You could try for years and will not recover. You require specially signed files from HTC to recover from that.
You are more than welcome to try the unbrick evita thread but if your patitions don't enumerate (step 3) there Is no way to recover without signed files from HTC. Other than jtagg ofcourse.

If you are running Win 8 or 8.1 it won't, use a Win 7 PC. The command was "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" what did you flash TWRP or CWM?
@philohtc
He isn't talking about fastboot. He's taking about flashing it from terminal emulator directly from the phone.
@nickfury27
I'm not sure if you can but you can use a couple of apps to flash recovery. They're called Recovery Tools, and Flash Image GUI.

Short answer is YES.
However, if you don't know what you are doing, you can render your phone useless. You would have to manually mount the recovery block, dd, and set permissions manually. If you screw it up, you'll have an expensive paper weight.
My advice, take timmaaa's advice.

It probably is best to post the results here, that way all users can benefit from it. I try not to assist via PM as the solution isn't able to be seen by other members who might have the same question. Just make sure you put a disclaimer on it.

Currently stock unrooted 4.1.2 for some tests. When I odin'ed back to 4.0.4, I went to settings, about phone, system updates: check for updates and it popped up per usual saying I had an update. I said yes and it preceeded to download. When it had finished it asked another pop up asked to update with the freshly downloaded software. Where does that downloaded software get stored? I wanted to download the new 4.3 system update so I could copy it to my computer and get to investigating but after I download it, I do NOT want to update my phone with it. Wary of anything to do with it because it has locked down and bricked a lot of peoples devices now. Links, pointers, suggestions and all greatly appreciated. Just saw some of the members discussing the dwv blocks which turned me on to this idea.

OTA updates save to /Cache/FOTA after they are downloaded. Btw, we have two 4.3 threads in the General section devoted to our latest OTA. One is titled 4.3 discussion thread and the other is titled along the lines of "4.3 is arriving in October." Both have plenty of discussion going on and are your best bet on following progress on the 4.3 OTA.

Thank you! I've actually been following both of the threads to the letter but this side project of mine is more of a personal nature. If things prove conclusive then I will report findings. Need to take a gander at the low-level code written in C.

Excluding the ADB part, that's what I did lol I switched to my rooted VRBMF1 rom and did so. OTAs are a two step process. First, it asks if you want to download the update and then once it downloads you'll receive another popup asking if you want to install it at which point you can select Later or Install now. If you stay on stock though, and if you move that update.zip from /Cache, it will repeatedly ask you later to download again so freeze/rename system app "sdm 1.0" if you don't want it to autoinstall if you're asleep or away for too long.

Hi Guy, and thanks for a lovely forum.
I'm currently running 4.4.2 on my Nexus 5 rooted and with Exposed Installer and GravityBox[KK] (which has a modify kernel for the Exposed installer). I want to install the new OTA-update (4.4.3) but the installation always get aborted (unexpected counting) or something. Dose The EI and GB[KK] interfere with the update process or by the modify kernel or both?
Do I need to uninstall EI and GB[KK], unroot the Nexus 5? In that case, how? Or do a factory reset or di I need to install totally back to stock 4.4.3?
I'm running a Mac (the only computer i own, and I have on internet connection at home so I use my Nexus 5's 3G and use hotspot to the Mac so it's not possible to install ROM's/update via my Mac cause then I will not have an internet connection during the installation process).
Is it possible to return back to stock on my Mac? In case how?
Dose anyone know how to fix this problem or are able to help me solve this problem? All answers are appreciated. I really need to get the 4.4.3 update. It dose not matter if I need to do a full "wipe"/factory reset, I have everything backup.
