[Q] QHSUSB_DLOAD S-Off - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ok, I'd been on the Sense 5 Rom and Elemental 6.7 for a while. Today I noticed that my phone wasn't going to sleep and was normally clocked around 1.0 Ghz no matter what it was doing. I tried changing the settings with No-frills cpu control but it didnt work. Long story short: I rebooted into recovery and reflashed the kernel to see if it would fix the problem. I used the stock elemental x settings (no overclock or undervoltage). The kernel flashed, I pressed reboot and the phone went dark... It wont cut on, holding the power button does nothing and plugging it into the computer gets me the qhsusb_dload message that I've read isnt a good thing to have. However most people who had this problem seem to have gotten it from RUU while S-On, my phone was S-Off so I'm wondering does that help my chances any, and is there anything I can do to restore my phone?

Try the unbrick evita thread. You'll need to run linux by live usb or live CD if you don't run linux. A virtual machine could work too.
If you can make it past step 3 and the partitions are intact, you can restore your phone.

I tried the unbrick evita thread but the zip is no longer posted on dropbox. I worked up to step 3 and there are some /dev/sda/ folders which I am presuming are the partitions... I can't find the unbrick_evita.zip file so if anyone has it I would really appreciate it. If I can find it on my own I'll update this thread. Thanks in advance.

There should be a bunch of partitions Like in the picture in the unbrick thread if you only have 3 or 4 or 5 then it not recoverable.

Alright guys. Seems like I'm fully bricked. Another guy on here had the same issue and said he sent it to HTC and they covered it so I called and am gonna send it in as well. *Fingers crossed* If it doesnt work then I'll probably just save up and upgrade to the one.
I know I dont post a lot here, but I do a lot of reading and you all have been super helpful. Thanks for the hard work you all put into this.

If you are in QHSUSB-DLMODE after trying to install RUU, OTA, or a custom kernel, you are pretty much done, aside from JTAG or sending it to HTC. I don't believe anybody has unbricked from any of these conditions.

You could try for years and will not recover. You require specially signed files from HTC to recover from that.
You are more than welcome to try the unbrick evita thread but if your patitions don't enumerate (step 3) there Is no way to recover without signed files from HTC. Other than jtagg ofcourse.

you set the date ahead like the instructions say right?
If you haven't already, check out my guide for the Telus HOX (it's in my signature and in the sticky rollup). You are required to have ADB set up and have an account with HTCDev.com.
Basically, the attached Spoof-CID.bat makes HTCDev.com think that your phone is the Rogers version and allows you to unlock your bootloader. Once that's done, you can push TWRP and then flash a prerooted ROM.
Hope it works for you and good luck.
Idk how to use adb .. did a little of research with 0 luck. I know that it's needed...idk where to find it. Or how to download it. :/ why is it such a pain in the ass???? Seriously.

platform-tools_r16.0.2-windows.zip is the latest
inside the zip all you need is
adb.exe
fastboot.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
downloading platform-tools_r16.0.2-windows.zip makes it alot easier then downloading the whole sdk
if you want to check for updates yourself look at this file repository-7.xml and search "platform-tools" then just change the filename of this url http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_<new version>-windows.zip to download
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Fastboot
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/ADB
some of those commands will or will not work on the evita. it's not a complete list or how they work but for the most part they are helpful links.
make sure you do these things first
usb debugging is enabled in developer options
fastboot is disabled in power options
some rooting and unlocking tasks require getting into bootloader manually, make the above settings and power off your phone completely.
to get into bootloader manually:
Volume Down + Power
Lights Blink A Few Times
Release Power
Tap Power Every Few Seconds Until HBOOT Screen Appears

So, i bricked my phone trying to update recovery. No power, nothing. Except, when i connect the device Windows recognizes as qhsusb_dload device. I found the drivers and can get Odin to recognize it, but i get stuck at setup connection when i try to flash. Does anybody have any ideas on what to do next? It's there a different tool i need?

[Q] Be very careful with Goo Manager...Hard Bricked my Skyrocket

I've been rooting phones, flashing roms, and even flashing others phones to different carriers for, 5-6 years now I'd say. So, I know what I'm doing. I recently started using Goo Manager to download things occasionally, and to say the least I'm screwed. Downloaded the latest twrp recovery and it automatically booted into recovery and flashed the image. Endpoint...hard bricked.
Just be careful with goo is all I'm saying. I never confirmed it to flash the download and it didn't even ask. As soon as it was done dl'ing it just did it. I knew instantly it was going to be problematic. Because it wasn't actually the twrp img for my skyrocket. I was downloading it to use on another phone and transfer to my computer. So, now I'm without a phone. Sucks..
Anyone know of a way to get into download mode without having to use Jtag? lol prolllly not

I am not sure why someone that has been doing this for years would put anything on the phones memory that doesn't go with the phone for any reason. It seems like half, if not more, of the bricks that happen are because of the wrong thing trying to be installed on the phone. Knowing that, it seems like a good idea to NEVER put anything on the phone that doesn't go with the phone, if you plan on using it or not. I guess this is just another precautionary tale for others now because if you really are hard bricked then Jtag is your option. Assuming you have already tried download mode, Odin, etc...Anyone doing this as long as you would have already known to try that stuff first...right? Good luck.
I got into a similar problem with goo manager. Ended with hard brick. Will never use goo or rom manager. Odin and twrp or cmw are the way to go. And never, ever flash anything unless you know it's for your device. That was the problem with goo, it said it was but wasn't.

You know you can force a reboot of the phone during the download by holding the power key or pulling the battery, right? If you knew what the file was, why didn't you do that?
I've downloaded ROM files hundreds of times through GooManager and gapps files at least a few dozen on three different phones across two platforms (Rocket and Note II). I've also flashed recoveries through it more times than I can remember. It's never once caused a problem, downloaded the wrong file, or even soft-bricked me.
I thought you couldn't brick a phone by a botched recovery flash. Because it's only writing to the recovery partition and not the system. Just what I once read anyway.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I didn't know it was the wrong file until after it installed. It was supposed to be a gapps package that went with the Rom. I't didn't look right and I should have known better but I went with goo.
Just reinforces you should always know that what ever you flash make sure it's for your specific device.

if it doesnt boot up go into ubuntu's recovery wipe data and format system then flash bootstrap then saucy
To update partially go to terminal on your phone and type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
the password is phablet
I am working on porting the flipped version which has more features
Yeah, my phone got soft bricked after flashing the base zip. Darn, I was excited...I guess I'll Odin it back when I have the time.

What do you mean what did it do ?
Please explain did it reboot etc ?
I did the wipes and partition formats like you instructed from CWM (version 6.1 I think, can't check ATM). I flashed the first zip and it aborted and said please flash again to confirm. I did, a status bar appeared then it rebooted to the white Samsung logo boot screen and sat there for a good thirty minutes before I got fed up and pulled the battery. Now when I boot I get the black screen with the Samsung logo and I can't boot into recovery anymore so I'll have to plug it up to Odin and repartition. I left it at home though so its gonna be a while.

Not yet I need one of these to test on . I am working on getting Ubuntu touch not preview working on my phone I talked to Scott about the error with the build since our devices both will fail since the file is exactly the same.

I really wish I could help, I would offer you the one I have but USB data doesn't work (you know if it gets soft bricked then there is no fixing it) so for that reason I don't believe it would be a prime candidate, you sometimes can get these freedom eBay at a really good price as long as you can deal with not having something work, or if you post a thread asking to borrow someone device for a while that seems to have worked pretty well in the past here

I would be interested in helping test this as well. I'm not super experienced, but I have been flashing roms on my infuse for a while(not my daily driver, I use a nexus 4) I have no problem abusing it. I would need some details on getting started with this, and what details you need, from me to help.
I have already downloaded the files from earlier in the thread. my current recover is cwm 6.0.3.2 but I think one of the zips replaces that, right? I'm posting the info to make sure there hasn't been a problem with changing over from there.

yes i am ..
PM a link please
Thank you .
happy to help
If anyone is working on porting this, I'd also be glad to test. My infuse is doing nothing other than collecting dust right now so I might as well do something with it.
