Hi there guys, I have a couple of questions;
First of all, will my Nexus 4 work in the US network? I assume so, because it's also sold there?
Second, I was thinking of buying a pre paid SIM-card there, so I can use internet on my phone for GPS etc. Is there a provider good for this? Like a lot of data but no text messages? I have no experience with US providers so I have no idea how everything works there.
So if any of you knows a good provider with decent 3G coverage and a lot of data for a low price, please respond. I'm going to California, if that matters.
Thanks!
(I hope this is the right section, I couldn't really find an appropriate place to post this...)

hi
because i am moving around more and am less likely to use wifi hotspots i am thinking oif joining 3 mobiles generous PAYG 2.50 a week unlimited data and the other addon data stuff.
firstly, is anyone doing this and is it any good.
secondly, what is meant by "unlimited data" and how freely can you use up your unlimited browsing- any website?, any app?
that leads me to my last question of is IM and VOIP allowed or do they block the ports and are there any ways of getting around these- proxy maybe?
thanks, oh yeah, if you guys know any better deals or service providers then please let me know.
cheers
I'm on 3UK
I use 3UK's unlimited data plan on my contract phone and I'm always surfing the net, I get push email service from funambol and I'm constantly using applications like Google maps with GPS and TOM TOM 6 navigator which are heavy data users.
I don't use IM or VOIP because my free calls/texts per month are enough for my communications to remain free(ish) but I have had no problems with data use.
I believe there is a fair usage policy of about 1GB data per month but as long as you're not using the phone as a modem I doubt you'll exceed that, especially if you use a browser like Opera mini which uses a lot less data than PIE.
I don't think you'll find another data plan that can match 3UK's
and no I don't work for them,
I've tried to look else where because they lack quality phones but had no choice but to stay with them.
thanks for that, very useful insight.
i have also been search and found nothing can really stand up to 3 in terms of price and data.
it would be insteresting if someone new about what apps and voip/IM can be used over 3's network....
Slingplayer for ppc doesn't work with these data plans. They want to force you to pay for the X series.
i looked at the x series, but im not to sure on being in a contract,
i just want to buy a weeks addon whenever i know im going to be outside of a hotspot...
anyone know their minimum contract deal?
whats the deal with the 2.50 addon- do i get the 10 000 windows live messages and unlimited skype to skype minutes like in the x series??
cheers

enough with the accusations of spammification!
if the mods find it spam, then they will "feel free" to remove it.
but another question popped into my head-
i took your advice and went to the 3g forum place and soon found out that 3 mobile dont allow there sim cards in 2g fones (mines a HTC excalibur) due to the roaming chargers they pay to orange/o2 becaue i would be constantly roaming on a non 3g network.
so is there any non 3g network which provide data which is unrestricted to how you use it like voip / IM??
cheers
EDIT:
looks like tmobile is the best 2g alternative to 3
Hi there
I have decided to tentatively upgrade from my Nokia E90 to a HTC Touch Pro - I'm keeping the E90 for now so I can move back if I don't like it.
I will be using the HTC Touch pro for a small amount of calls and texts, but a fair amount of data and internet, so I want that unlimited. Also, I'll be using a VoIP client (probably Skype as I have a SkypeOut subscription) and I want to make sure my network isn't blocking it.
I've searched the net and here quite extensively and there's conflicting reports on what is and what isn't allowed, hence me asking directly, so sorry if it has already been answered.
Also, I'll be buying it on contract so the best deals would appeal to me! I find buying direct from the network usually gets you the best support so what's out there for the Touch Pro right now?
And I'll also be swapping Sims from time to time so the phone has to be unblocked.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Stephen
Although I am generally happy with Vodafone as a network for call and coverage, I think their data packages arent up to much. I could be wrong but I'm sure the best they offer is the 'unlimited' data package, which in reality has a 500mb 'fair usage' limit attached. I also seem to recall that calls on VOIP arent included in this. It has been a while since I checked the tariffs, but thought I'd pass on my limited knowledge
Thanks
Anybody else running one in the UK and has an unlimited data tariff that is Skype friendly?

I just have a few questions. I've read a few things at different forums but I'd like to get some direct answers from people who know what they're talking about. I'm traveling to Croatia, Greece, Italy, and Spain. Possibly a few other places but those are for sure.
Will I have to turn my phone/data services off or will it just simply not work since I will be on a different network? If no, can you turn that off on Droids, I know it was easy to do that on my Blackberry but I haven't seen that option (or may have just over looked it).
What are some must have apps for going out of the country? I read that I would be able to use my wifi so I'm banking on just using Skype whenever I get the chance, and a MagicJack for PC.
So far I was thinking just Skype and a currency converter.
Thanks for the help.
i dont think that cellular service will work because the droid is a cdma device. in Europe they dont use cdma.
Yea, they use GSM, correct? I didn't think it would, I just don't want something to activate and get home and have some outrageous fees.
I'm really hoping the WIFI over there will be of good use, $.02 a minute for Skype minutes and free Skype-to-Skype over WIFI will save some money.
Would I be able to use the app Market over there?
if you are going to do that then make sure that you suspend your verizon service to save you a few $$
Hi,
Here is my situation.
My girlfriend lives in NY and I live in France. So I'm looking for a solution for her so that we can phone each other without too much charge. Here in France I can have an unlimited international plan, but if I understood well, if she receive a call she will be charged...
I searched a lot, and found that metroPCS offers unlimited internationals plans, but (yes, there is always a but...) this plan works only for my home phone, not my cellphone
I can't find any information about that plan if she receive internationnal call!
I read some post on other forums that said that a lot of people have a lot of problem with their phone bought with metroPCS...
So I post a message here and hope american members could help me on that point:
What is the best solution for her to receive international calls without beign charged?
Is metroPCS a good provider? If not, what do you suggest?
I know she can use skype or google talk or sip client, but she has to be connected to a wifi network so that not a good solution for us!
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Hi All,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I did look but couldn't find a General Tablet section.
I`m looking for a tablet as a gift for my wife (I know there's hundreds out there) but, my issue is I need one either with 3G built in or has support for a USB 3G dongle (as we live in a dead zone) and cant get reliable broadband but can get 3G and HSDPA go figure!
I dont want to want to spend over £150 so this might be a tall order, iv seen some on Amazon but they are from unknown companies and I dont know about their quality.
any suggestions or comments i would be grateful
Thanks
