Is MetroPCS a good option in my case - General Topics

Hi,
Here is my situation.
My girlfriend lives in NY and I live in France. So I'm looking for a solution for her so that we can phone each other without too much charge. Here in France I can have an unlimited international plan, but if I understood well, if she receive a call she will be charged...
I searched a lot, and found that metroPCS offers unlimited internationals plans, but (yes, there is always a but...) this plan works only for my home phone, not my cellphone
I can't find any information about that plan if she receive internationnal call!
I read some post on other forums that said that a lot of people have a lot of problem with their phone bought with metroPCS...
So I post a message here and hope american members could help me on that point:
What is the best solution for her to receive international calls without beign charged?
Is metroPCS a good provider? If not, what do you suggest?
I know she can use skype or google talk or sip client, but she has to be connected to a wifi network so that not a good solution for us!
Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Please recommend a UK network to me!

Hi there
I have decided to tentatively upgrade from my Nokia E90 to a HTC Touch Pro - I'm keeping the E90 for now so I can move back if I don't like it.
I will be using the HTC Touch pro for a small amount of calls and texts, but a fair amount of data and internet, so I want that unlimited. Also, I'll be using a VoIP client (probably Skype as I have a SkypeOut subscription) and I want to make sure my network isn't blocking it.
I've searched the net and here quite extensively and there's conflicting reports on what is and what isn't allowed, hence me asking directly, so sorry if it has already been answered.
Also, I'll be buying it on contract so the best deals would appeal to me! I find buying direct from the network usually gets you the best support so what's out there for the Touch Pro right now?
And I'll also be swapping Sims from time to time so the phone has to be unblocked.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Stephen
Although I am generally happy with Vodafone as a network for call and coverage, I think their data packages arent up to much. I could be wrong but I'm sure the best they offer is the 'unlimited' data package, which in reality has a 500mb 'fair usage' limit attached. I also seem to recall that calls on VOIP arent included in this. It has been a while since I checked the tariffs, but thought I'd pass on my limited knowledge
Thanks
Anybody else running one in the UK and has an unlimited data tariff that is Skype friendly?

Android Phone without cell phone plan

Hi guys,
Was wandering if someone could help me out with, rather, strange question.
I want to use an Android phone to make calls, but do not want to sign up with any cell phone company. I live in New brunswick, Fredericton, we have free wireless internet.
I want to make use of it, but so far I have not found a concrete answer.
I have started a thread about this on another android forums, if you want more details, or just ask me:
http://forums.androidandme.com/topic/how-to-use-free-internet-with-android-without-cell-plan
Any help is Great appreciated!

maybe if they get it to work
with skype you still of cause are charged to pay when you call normal phones
Yeah, that's interesting.
I find the whole situation with cell phone companies stupid, charging outrageous rates for what should really be included in your home internet fee.
In any case, I was wandering if a solution exists for right now It doesn't have to be free, but at least cheaper than buying an unlimited plan from rogers or what-not.
Or are there other phones (except Android) that can do this instead?
Thanks
yes skype is out for
windows mobile
heck even iphone got it
but you have to remember that if you call normal phones
cell or land-line you have to pay skype as they offer the link to
gsm and land-line which have no connection to the Internet you get
when you connect to wifi
just wanted to make sure you didn't have the impression that it was 1 big network
it's not
kinda like one can't send an email to a person with not computer and expect a free service
which print the email and put it in the physically mailbox of the person
I understand that I have to pay skype or someone else for calling landlines. That is Fine with me.
However, with Skype (for example and iphone/windows mobile?), can I use the phone even if I don't have a SIM card/cell phone plan?

yes you can even use a non phone pda with wifi or an ipod touch
when you have wifi you have the same possibilities as with a computer
That sounds cool. Thanks,
Another question:
Is there a way I can use my phone/pda as a Gps device?
If I have no plan, I can't connect to satelite either?
Or do some phones provide some kind of tom-tom enabled capabilities?

Verizon Data Plan Question

I can't find an answer to this and I know what Verizon's answer would be if I asked them. If anyone has tried this, I'd love to hear how it went.
I have a 3g phone (X2....ugh) with an unlimited plan that's still on contract. If I buy a 4G phone from a 3rd party, will I be able to activate it and keep my current plan? Or will VZW make me switch the plan when I call to activate the phone?

This should help you:

Be warned, you might be stuck at 3G speeds using this method as that is probably part of your contract. Upgrading to LTE (4G) would probably mean changing your contract.
That's an interesting take. I'm pretty sure you're right that it'd end up with only 3G that way since the SIM wouldn't be activated.
Does anyone know what would happen to the plan if I just waked into VZW with a 4g new phone and asked them to activate it?
I keep shaking my head that I can't just call Verizon, but I've already gotten 3 different answers from them...
--Edit--
This looks promising...
rep told me
I rep told me as long as you buy your own phone retail keep the unlimited data. I bet you have to buy the phone from them to keep it though.

Online in the USA

Hi there guys, I have a couple of questions;
First of all, will my Nexus 4 work in the US network? I assume so, because it's also sold there?
Second, I was thinking of buying a pre paid SIM-card there, so I can use internet on my phone for GPS etc. Is there a provider good for this? Like a lot of data but no text messages? I have no experience with US providers so I have no idea how everything works there.
So if any of you knows a good provider with decent 3G coverage and a lot of data for a low price, please respond. I'm going to California, if that matters.
Thanks!
(I hope this is the right section, I couldn't really find an appropriate place to post this...)

Dear T-Mobile USA and John Legere

Dear TMO & John Legere,
I write to you today because I should be upset. I should be angry at you, as a company, and I should want to call customer service and tell the person who answers the phone that I am mad. You see, the reason I should be mad is because you have finally caught on to my tricks. Now, when I turn on my computer or try watch a show on Netflix, I get a web page telling me I need to buy a larger tethering plan. I don't need you to tell me this, because I know I have already use a lot more than my allotted 5gb of tethering data. I use about 100gb each month, about 80gb of that is used to tether my TV or my computer. I live in a neighborhood. In my neighborhood, we don't access to land based internet. Well we do, but I am not paying $60/m for AT&T DSL that is only around 4mbs and peaks at 5. It if for this reason that I have an unlocked phone with a custom ROM. I get amazing LTE speed from you. upwards of 35mbs, all the time. I have friends that tell me; 'I pay for unlimited data, I should be able to use it how I want." The thing is I would be mad, I would call customer service and tell them I am not tethering and I would threaten to cancel my service, but with you, T-Mobile, I just can't bring myself to do it. With you, when I call customer service, an actual native English speaking person answers the phone, quickly. They are very pleasant and really do want to help with the issue I call about. When I get your bill, I hardly ever look at it and I am honestly happy to pay it. There are never strange charges or things that have to be explained but still don't understand after I hang up. Your bills are exactly what you say they are going to be and that's it. As a matter of fact, the reason I am happy to pay them is because I pay you $140/m for three lines with unlimited everything. No, your coverage isn't the best, but your speeds are amazing and I can go a few miles while driving without Goggling something. I bought all three of my families phones unlocked, rooted them and installed a custom ROM just so I could have reliable internet in my home. You seem to have caught on to my tricks and now I have to re-evaluate the worth of dial up DSL from evil AT&T or have a limited data plan satellite provider. T-Mobile, you have shut down my home internet and I can't even bring myself to be mad at you because you are the best utility service provider I have ever had. You are fair and reasonable and for that, I respect you.
Sincerely,
A loyal 4yr customer
Might I suggest you tweet him this as a link? https://twitter.com/JohnLegere
