Looking for Tablet with 3G support - General Questions and Answers

Hi All,
Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I did look but couldn't find a General Tablet section.
I`m looking for a tablet as a gift for my wife (I know there's hundreds out there) but, my issue is I need one either with 3G built in or has support for a USB 3G dongle (as we live in a dead zone) and cant get reliable broadband but can get 3G and HSDPA go figure!
I dont want to want to spend over £150 so this might be a tall order, iv seen some on Amazon but they are from unknown companies and I dont know about their quality.
any suggestions or comments i would be grateful
Thanks

[Q] 3G -- add-on or built-in?

Hi all,
I'm considering whether to get a TF now, or wait until a 3G version comes out.
Based on some specs it seems 3G will be offered as an option, but it's unclear whether the 3G can be a home-installed add-on, a store-installed add-on, something factory installed that can't be retrofitted to a wifi-only system, or (shudder) something only available through carriers.
I'm prepared to wait, but would prefer to buy a wifi-only one now if I had confidence that I could add on the 3G when it became available.
Can anyone shed some light on how the TF will include 3G?
Thanks!
I think that you would have to wait for asus to make one with 3G. I think I remember seeing someone mention sometime in summer for 3G.
I highly doubt 3g will be an add-on.
Do you not have an Android phone?
Why get 3g just use your mobiles connection
sent from my LEE Pad Transformer........I wish
Sure, I could tether to a phone. However I'd like to reduce the amount of gear that I need to carry around, keep charged, etc.
A Mifi unit or something would work well. I keep one in the business card slot of my laptop bag and plan to shift it over to the tablet case once mine is delivered.

Inspire and European data frequencies

Hi,
So, I bought an AT&T branded Inspire since it works on the same data frequencies as a big telco in Australia, then moved to Europe, so I'm **** out of luck for decent data speeds at the moment (i.e. no 2100 MHz makes for sad EDGE speed mobile browsing; it's like being back on dial up, waiting half the night, hoping enough of the picture will download that you'll get a glimpse of boob).
There seem to be a lot of people posting on various message boards, hoping that someone will tell them the problem can be fixed in software; that's not what I want to ask, because I'm not quite that thick.
Is there anyone with a bit of hardware knowledge who can tell me if there's a reasonable hardware fix (e.g. the radio bits in the phone are a cheapish part and I could have it switched out for an HTC Desire HD part)?
If not, is there anyone interested in buying a slightly used, red HTC Inspire?

You know if you're gonna be in Europe for some time and are really that dead set on keeping the Inspire to the point you want to change some hardware on the phone, you might just want to get a Desire...probably be a lot less of a PITA..I would try asking this question on the Desire forums as well and see if anyone over there has a decent work around or fix...just my $.02

You would have to swap out the hardware antenna. Your better off selling it and then buying a DHD.
Thanks for the advice. Just a last ditch attempt from me, really, hoping I could replace a $50 part instead of buying another $300 phone, but looks like I'll have to bite the bullet.
Guess I'm off to find a cheap phone seller near here since I don't have the same access to dodgy asian retailers as I had in Australia .

Online in the USA

Hi there guys, I have a couple of questions;
First of all, will my Nexus 4 work in the US network? I assume so, because it's also sold there?
Second, I was thinking of buying a pre paid SIM-card there, so I can use internet on my phone for GPS etc. Is there a provider good for this? Like a lot of data but no text messages? I have no experience with US providers so I have no idea how everything works there.
So if any of you knows a good provider with decent 3G coverage and a lot of data for a low price, please respond. I'm going to California, if that matters.
Thanks!
(I hope this is the right section, I couldn't really find an appropriate place to post this...)

Worth to buy a WCDMA 3G version of Mi4 16GB now?

Just reserved online. come with screen protector and wifi USB which you can plug into a laptop as a wifi hotspot to share wifi.
But not sure if I should wait for the 4G version or just use the 3G version for now. Using Mi3 at the moment.

where are you located? what provider are you using? what kind of dload speeds are you getting with your provider? im curious i just purchased a mi 4...i dont think you need to wait if you really want the phone...its more about the phone itself as providers dont give you 100% 4g or LTE anyway...when im out and about id say 15-20% of the time i dont have fast enouth data for a basic google search and i dont live out in the country...that being said when dealing with electronics in general its ALWAYS better to wait but i myself did not. i NEVER need lte even if i was to use it which would only be to torrent movies it would eat up my data anyway so im content with a 3g speed with the same coverage...now is 3g going to get phased out? i dont know enough abouth the subject im assuming not and if thats the case then im ok with my 3g version...please understand that im just giving you my opinion i just had seen your post and was having the same delema so id figured id chime in. oh and i went with the 64gb mi 4...what are your thoughts on the tempered glass screen protector its 8 bucks is it legit ? have a look its on xiaomishop idk if it would be good. let me know what provider you use here in the states i assume att/h2o/net 10 type will give the 3g speeds for this version of mi 4

Currently at Macau, I am using CTM which is WCDMA. The top speed here is 3.6Mbps for my 3G plan, no LTE yet.
What do you mean don't need to wait? There are not enough units can be directly purchase from the official website unless you order and wait for 3-4 weeks for the shipment. But you can buy from the web like ebay or taobao with extra cost for sure.
To me, 3G speed is fast enough, 4G doesn't really matter, I don't watch online video a lot, even I do, I don't mind to wait for 15 seconds waiting for the streaming. GSM is going to be phrased out soon, 3G will be on the market for a while as LTE does not offer voice for phone call. Don't think the screen protector needs to be that high tech, a standard one is enough, I used for my MI3.
Hope this helps.
