[Q] custom recovery interface with microusb microsd reader - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've never used a phone without a microsd card. It's pretty useful to be able to flash a rom from a microsd so that you don't need to keep your working copies on the device all the time... they take up alot of space.
Do any of the custom recoveries support reading off of a microsd card reader?

TWRP supports USB-OTG. I'm not sure about CWM though as I haven't used it for a few months now.

[Q] USB OTG in Recovery

Hey all,
Thinking about getting a Nexus 5, but I have one major question:
Does CWM or TWRP have USB OTG support? Or is there some way to do system backups directly onto OTG storage?
Thanks!

Yes I have tested it on twrp works like a charm

Help with install of recovery

I have rooted my tablet but have no idea what recovery is on here. I think its stock. I want to install a better one without losing my stuff and then do a backup so I can install kitkat.. any help would be great.

There are many options. Use this one and flash in odin. I assume you know what that is since you're rooted. You could also use twrp recovery but I think cwm is easier to use for someone newer to custom recovery
Can I use mobile Odin?

Not a big deal. The point is its the easiest one to get started. Once installed CWM will ask to update to a newer version that will support it. Install with odin.
Will my info be wipe if I install a recovery?

Pretty close to the same thing but Philz touch is gonna have more advanced options included that most dont use. Also going to have touch also which means instead of using the volume keys to navigate and power button to slect it is simply touch based.

For my personal expirience the CWM recovery is better then others, I never have had compatibility issues with this one
Which one?

I'm using Philz (Advanced CWM) & it has great compatibility + more features

[Q] Cannot mount /sdcard/

I've done everything as instructed. rooted with cydia impactor, recovery with cwm 6.0.1 after 5.8 not working either, and everything runs smoothly until I get to trying to install the rom.
I downloaded the cm11 d2lte nightly and put the zip in the root of my sd card (which is formatted to FAT32 and is designated as my primary) and I cannot get the recovery to mount the sd card.
Also tried formatting the card into exfat to see if that would make a difference, but it didn't either.
Is there anything I'm missing?

I had the same issue when I got a new SD card but with mine formatting it to exfat worked. Just curious why you rooted with cydia impactor on a VZW S3 when nearly everyone else uses towelroot?

Actually, I'm using a straight talk s3. That's why I used cydia.

I was just thinking about that myself. I'd suggest a class 10 micro SD card

well, bought a new class 10 micro sd and it made absolutely no difference. I'm thinking it's the recovery I'm using. cwm touch 5.8 and cwm 6.0 are the ones I've tried.

Update the recovery also. I forgot to mention that. The SD card will be faster that is the one positive thing

New Recovery, cwm touch 6.0.4.5 and now it cannot install.
So, I'm going to wipe, reflash stock, reroot, use the new recovery, and see if I cant get somewhere.
Getting a little frustrated.

[Q] Clockwork mod / Philz touch recoveries

Sorry to start a whole thread over this question, but I am looking for one of the above recoveries for my Note pro (P-900) and haven't had much luck. Anybody know of either of them? Thanks...
Neither one has been developed for the P900.

Couldn't get TWRP to work on my P907a. As far as I know there are none for the US AT&T model. Right?
Have you tried this one?

Tried that one and the newer version, both with ODIN and zip installs. No luck. ODIN always fails and zip install always encounter problems and always boots back into stock recovery (whether I let it reboot fully or boot straight into recovery mode). Thanks for the help though.

Question: I use USB OTG Helper and it connects my USB to note 3 phone. Is there a hack you are working to make OTG viable on the note 5?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
USB otg works natively on the note 5 what wasn't working was USB otg in twrp recovery but now that it's officially supported for our device it works
So if I'm not already rooted, I can flash this and use it as a rooting method as well, correct?
Hey I hv otg support in ma twrp recovery..

No you must use a custom kernel now
This is my first experience without an SD card. If I have the rom I'm going to flash on my OTG can I then wipe internal storage as well when making a full wipe?

Yes, all current versions support OTG.
BTW, the latest TWRP 2.0 also supports mounting internal storage while in recovery so you don't even really need the OTG if connected to a PC.
