[Q] USB OTG in Recovery - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Thinking about getting a Nexus 5, but I have one major question:
Does CWM or TWRP have USB OTG support? Or is there some way to do system backups directly onto OTG storage?
Thanks!

[Q] custom recovery interface with microusb microsd reader

I've never used a phone without a microsd card. It's pretty useful to be able to flash a rom from a microsd so that you don't need to keep your working copies on the device all the time... they take up alot of space.
Do any of the custom recoveries support reading off of a microsd card reader?
TWRP supports USB-OTG. I'm not sure about CWM though as I haven't used it for a few months now.

I don't know if it because I had converted to GPE and updated to 4.4.4. But now I'm having issues with downgrading I can only stay on 4.4.4

If you are root, install the app Stick Mount and the Usb OTG will work great. I have a real Moto G GPE and the OTG work very good.:good:

did you read the OP? I have tried Stick Mount, it didn't do anything, i don't even know how to work the UI of that app, i just purchased a App called Nexus Media Importer, i used the troubleshooter and it Detects the USB OTG Allthough, 3rd party apps like Es File manger do not detect the OTG..

OTG support for moto g stock 4.4.4 or 4.4.2 firmware in India?

The subject line says all . If OTG support working for moto g stock 4.4.4 or 4.4.2 firmware in India?

You must be rooted and use stick mount by chainfire. Otg will work.

Otg works fine for me without stickmount... Stock picks it up pretty nicely
Did you do anything special for this ?
After I converted and updated to GPE 4.4.4, OTG does not work normally (I need to use stickmount).
Before the conversion it worked normally.

For 4.4.2 stock (not rooted) Indian Version of Firmware, does OTG works normally?
Moto G suffers from lack of internal storage space. Now in this forum I did not find any suitable and appropriate guide which is addressing this OTG issue.
Can someone document the status on OTG. Country specific Firmware status on OTG
Like in which version of Stock non rooted firmware OTG is working and for other version what are the steps to be followed to get it working.

I am on Indian XT1033 with 4.4.4. i am rooted and OTG works.
There is no notification after connecting the USB drive and no direct option to disconnect. However upon going into filemanager I can access USBDISK and it shows all the content of my flashdrive.
I mainly use it to directly backup my stock rom on to OTG flashdrive and watching movies
I am using Transcend 16GB OTG flash drive.

Question: I use USB OTG Helper and it connects my USB to note 3 phone. Is there a hack you are working to make OTG viable on the note 5?
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
USB otg works natively on the note 5 what wasn't working was USB otg in twrp recovery but now that it's officially supported for our device it works
So if I'm not already rooted, I can flash this and use it as a rooting method as well, correct?
Hey I hv otg support in ma twrp recovery..

No you must use a custom kernel now
This is my first experience without an SD card. If I have the rom I'm going to flash on my OTG can I then wipe internal storage as well when making a full wipe?

Yes, all current versions support OTG.
BTW, the latest TWRP 2.0 also supports mounting internal storage while in recovery so you don't even really need the OTG if connected to a PC.
