[RESOLVED] Used Photon Q SOD on stock rom? - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Yes, I used the search function...
no hits on 'wake up' and only 1 hit in all of the entire forum+sub forums using 'sleep of death' or 'sod' and it seems that
arrrghhh hasn't seen anyone with SOD issues on this phone.
I've got about 2 weeks left to return this phone if needed...
As stated, stock ROM (came with ...ASA-10 pre-installed, OTA'd to ...ASA14).
SODs on both.
Only seems to be occurring after 4 or 6+ hours of sleep (less than that wakes ok)
No, pressing power button several times does not wake.
No indication of changing volume if volume buttons are pressed (I've had devices that forgot to turn the screen back on when they woke).
HAVE to press and hold Power+Vol Down to hard boot phone.
Airplane Mode is on (phone isn't yet activated).
USB Debugging = on
Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Sync = on
Should I even try hooking to ADB for a Logcat (that will be massive) or just try to return it as it is not fully funtional as is?
Should I just unlock bootloader, root, flash a ROM (probably JB for now) as I was planning to do eventually anyhow? (kinda waiting for a fully stable KK ROM so I don't have to try each one and then flash multiple nightlies until a stable comes out)
*Edit* Addtional info:
Bought in 'fair' condition, only minor concern was a half-peeled back cover (top half).
Issue has occured from day 1 (about 10 days).
Every morning I have to hard boot.
Plugged or unplugged does not affect any change, still SODs after 4-6+ hours.

Any reason you're not on the latest stock ROM?
That would be my only suggestion. However, from what you describe it sounds like a defective device. Have you tried doing a full wipe/restore of stock with RSD Lite?
Perhaps try that, and flash the latest FFW-8 or whatever its called.

Thought I was, Motorola Device Manager says there are no updates.
I wanted to make sure all was well before doing any S/W changes that may affect anything.
Will RSD Lite (using RSD Lite 6.1.5 + MTK Patch?) to asanti_c_sprint-user-4.1.2-9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5-6-release-keys-cid9.xml.zip and get back.

Well, RSD'd 4.1.2.
Turned off screen.
5 1/2 hours all ok.
Plugged in for the night and will know in the morning.

No dice, still SODs.
It's going back.
Thanks for all the help arrrghhh!

New error: "Your OS ROM isn't customized for your hardware."

I was using my phone normally, (chatting on msn and got a text message) when the phone locked up completely. Mine hasn't ever just locked up before but I waited a minute to see if it would recover before I finally used the stylus to do a soft reset. But instead of booting now my phone just displays this message.

Rebooting the phone from that just gave me the same message. I could still get into the boot-loader etc so I did a hard-reset on the phone. Still got the same message.
I was about to try flash a new rom to it when I thought I'd try pull the battery out, wait a couple of minutes and put it back in. Now my phone boots again!
I'm not sure if it would have worked without the hard reset or not but obviously some hardware had got itself into an error state and a hard/soft resets wouldn't clear it.
Good luck.
heh. thats very interesting.
hmmm what rom were you running?
It was ROMeOS 1.62 but I suspect it was a hardware problem as opposed to just something in the ROM because a hard reset didnt fix it. Not until I pulled the battery out did it boot again. I figured that seeing I had reset it and had to set the rom up again I'd change to ROMeOS 1.70
I just posted it because I hadn't ever seen this before and figured I'd save someone else panicing for a few minutes.
Maz
This message typically means that OS loader could not initialize the hardware. If the ROM you are using was cooked with a XIP from another model, it's possible that there are some weird compatibility issues.
Another possible cause if corruption of RAM of NAND flash data...
just had the same problem on mine. Thank god for this forum! i was freaking out
BTW, I am running one of NATF's ROMs, too lazy to look up the version right now
OMG, just got the same problem on blackstone...
Same resolution except that I had to wait 15 minutes with the battery out before it worked again...
Thank you very much for the post!!!

If my theories on this are correct, your battery is loose. Open up your phone and check if your battery slides around.

[Q] Help: I Bricked My Device?

I've been hacking away at this Captivate for a month since I got it. Maybe a hundred times going into download mode. But, now I cannot get my device into download mode from the: "PHONE --/\-- COMPUTER" screen.
Here's what I've been doing since I've had the phone:
- Pull battery, sd, sim
- Put battery in
- Put USB in
- Hold both Volume and Power down
- Once the PHONE--COMPUTER screen goes black, wait.
- After it goes black one more time, let go of Power button
What is going on? Am I screwed here? I was applying the Ext2 (2.3) lag fix over JH2 when this happened, here's my CMD:

Of course! I even pressed "Allow" on superuser. The fix won't continue past a few lines without root access.
pull the battery, sim card, sdacard...
put in the battery, hold volume down, plug in the usb cable and keep holding volume down until you get into download mode.

Worked like a charm!
Super super odd. I've been getting taking this thing into download mode like every 2 minutes since I've had the device. Never had a problem till now!
Why wouldn't my usual procedure in the OP work? It always has for me?

I think those are higher level methods, something may have been messed up and keeping them from working.
I am pretty sure this method is a lower level method that will always work.

[Q] Afraid I bricked my Milestone, is it possible to undo it?

Hello XDA-members,
I hope you can help me, I've been browsing this forum for quite a while now and I actually am rather optimistic looking at the high amount of leet tweakorz populating this place :> Shouldn't cheer too early though.
I've got some details which might be required in order to analyse the situation.
About a week ago, I downgraded to stock Milestone EU ROM 2.1, coming from the G.O.T. 2.2.1 custom rom, due to the power drainage which I thought was the price of the custom ROM.
I browsed around the interwebz in order to find a custom froyo rom not sucking ma powaz, but in fact I found out that the power drainage could be caused by failing to clean out the cache (including dalvik, etc) before flashing a custom rom. So, before I installed the stock ROM, I made sure I properly did this, after the installation I cleaned it again and then installed the G.O.T. 2.2.1 again , through the new OpenRecovery v2.0.1. Rooted it, installed the custom theme they included with the ROM, and overclocked it to I think 800 Mhz.
After this, everything worked fine for about 1,5 weeks, although I noticed it started to suck power again (60% gone in a night of a nice, cozy, sleepy rest without any applications, wi-fi or 3g connection on background), so I did something incredibly stupid. Still a bit sleep-drunk, I went into the openrecovery menu and cleaned the cache, dalvik and (I think it's) clear settings.
After rebooting, I noticed the theme that GOT included was replaced for the standard layout for froyo. Also, the device was barely responding to my commands, for about 5 minutes. I rebooted it, and after about a minute of processing it worked fine.
I didn't get to know if this was actually increasing battery life again, because I went to sleep yesterday night with the phone having about 40%, and this morning I woke up and the phone was empty (at least, so I thought). A few hours ago I connected it to the charger, later I found that the phone wouldn't power up anymore. It simply doesn't react to the power button, screen doesn't show power or anything. I also tried power button in combination with x, or camera, but both methods didn't do anything as well.
So, that was it. Maybe those were a bit too much details. TL;DR: I installed a custom rom, cleaned out all the cache, and my phone won't start up anymore. I hope anyone knows this problem, and possibly a solution?
Thanks for reading, Bullehr
Men i have the same problem with my girlfriend milestone .
Try to take out the battery for a minute and then put it back again, that's do the trick for me .
Sorry for my English it's not my native language
The problem generally is given by the fact that the phone needs some power to "boot" in power charging mode. What you need is a second battery, or a little trick to charge the battery...

[Q] T699 reboots on charge

I own two T699's, one looks a bit wore so I'm trying to replace it with a better looking one.
Found one on ebay but from the first second it reboots when going into the 'battery' screen (charge only when turned off)
I thought okay.. maybe a software issue with the phone, but now I already did the following:
- Odin flash it to an older version
- free Unlock the phone (using an european operator, this worked fine)
- OTA update to the newest
- USB didn't work anymore?? -> Odin to the newest
- USB working again, still unlocked
- ODIN TWRP and install CM11
- CM11 boots just fine (connected to the charger)
- CM11 gives no charging info, reconnect USB, now the charging icon is working...
- seconds later.. reboot
- works again.. no charging, reconnect charger... seconds later reboot!
-turn off, connect charger, see the charging icon showing up (full screen) reboot .. reboot.. reboot etc..
-turn on (no charger) check battery info in CM11, see this:

weird gap..
So my conclusion is that this phone works perfectly when it's not charging.
Is this a thing you can fix with software?
If no, but there is a hardware fix, i'm also willing to try it.

I also found another topic (not related to T699 but other samsung phone) same issue but they guy opened it up and had water damage.
He was able to fix it by cleaning the pcb's etc.
Since I have experience with this I opened up my T699..
And to my surprise there is a lot of 'sticky' stuff (think it's Cola or some other soda) so i'm cleaning it now with some PCB cleaning solution.
Will let it dry for today and hopefuly it's working tomorrow
Made some photo's as well to contact the ebay seller.. because this is not as advertised.. :silly:

Could do with a little help, I think my N5 is dead

Hi all...
I think my N5 is buggered.
I was at a festival this weekend and my phone battery ran out so I left it in my bag for more of the weekend. On the drive back it was working fine as I was using GPs, making calls, using Gplay without any problems. As my GF wanted to charge her phone mine ran out again by the time I got home and I went to charge it as it was down to 2% but when I plugged the charger in it would not charge. It would start charging for a second then stop for a second and then start again. So I unplugged it and went to give it a re-boot and the screen came back on corrupted like this -

I have holding the volume down and power button to get to the fast boot menu and the screen does the same thing but this time while i'm holding it the screen with turn on and off wile vibrating 5-6 times before turning off.
I have even tried using fastboot to flash the recovery image onto the phone and it says everything has worked but again I get the corrupeted screen when I reboot.
Anyone seen or know of this problem? Or is it what I expect and it's got a hardware issue and needs to get repaired?
Thanks in advanced for any help or suggestions.

It's a problem with the flex cable, the screen, or possibly the motherboard.
A few people have had this issue.

Lethargy,
I had a feeling it was going to be a hardware issue. Thank you so much for the help... I'll get it sorted under my insurance then and get myself a temporary phone until then.
Cheers
