Could do with a little help, I think my N5 is dead - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all...
I think my N5 is buggered.
I was at a festival this weekend and my phone battery ran out so I left it in my bag for more of the weekend. On the drive back it was working fine as I was using GPs, making calls, using Gplay without any problems. As my GF wanted to charge her phone mine ran out again by the time I got home and I went to charge it as it was down to 2% but when I plugged the charger in it would not charge. It would start charging for a second then stop for a second and then start again. So I unplugged it and went to give it a re-boot and the screen came back on corrupted like this -

I have holding the volume down and power button to get to the fast boot menu and the screen does the same thing but this time while i'm holding it the screen with turn on and off wile vibrating 5-6 times before turning off.
I have even tried using fastboot to flash the recovery image onto the phone and it says everything has worked but again I get the corrupeted screen when I reboot.
Anyone seen or know of this problem? Or is it what I expect and it's got a hardware issue and needs to get repaired?
Thanks in advanced for any help or suggestions.

It's a problem with the flex cable, the screen, or possibly the motherboard.
A few people have had this issue.

Lethargy,
I had a feeling it was going to be a hardware issue. Thank you so much for the help... I'll get it sorted under my insurance then and get myself a temporary phone until then.

My HTC Touch Pro won't turn on

I have no idea why, it was working fine, until a few mins ago, but the battery was sort of running low, and I didnt charge it. The next thing I know, the phone is off and it wont start up again...
the pc wont recognize the phone when i plug it in, and when i try to charge it, it wont light up.
with the battery inside, when i hold the on/off key, it does vibrate, but it still doesn't turn on.
I didnt drop it, and its never been in water or anything... it just suddenly refuses to turn on...
any suggestions?
(btw, I'm on a 3 plan, and I've modded the phone, so I don't think I have warranty..)
oh, and its been about 2 weeks since my last mod from xda def, and have had no problems up till now.
any suggestions?....
thanks
pull out the battery and put it on the wall charger?
Then put the battery back in?
Just a thought.

yeah tired that, but still wont work
oh, and btw, the phone keeps on making noises (melodies???) after it vibrates when i try to turn it on..
The startup sound when the 3G flies across the screen?
I wonder if you can touch areas and get a click. One thought. Once you think it comes up (2 1/2 mins I have heard in worst case), play with the volume button up and down.
Is it making noises? If so, then perhaps the screen is not working. Just a thought, but wouldn't hurt to try.
As it turns out, as long as the phone wont turn on, they wont know the phone is hacked
so I went to the 3 store, and they advised me to go to a service center nearby, they had no idea and they repaired it under warranty for free.
the problem was the LCD and the ear piece. thanks syntrix for bothering to reply
I had Similar problem
Interesting has my Touch Pro is new -- 1 week old -- and yesterday the battery was getting low. Next time I looked, it was off. Wouldn't turn on. So, I figured the battery had died -- very disappointing as I hadn't even left the office -- so it didn't even make it through first "work" day. When I got home I tried hooking to charger. No response. So, I popped the battery out and then back in -- everything back to normal. I haven't made any changes to the phone YET -- -- planning to install WDE in just a few minutes. Wonder if this isn't a bug in device?
Anyway -- my first post here at XDA -- "hey" ;-)
My pro started doing this today. Soft resetting won't turn the device back on either. I have to literally pop the battery out and back in.
Keyboard is also acting like it can't keep up with me and screen is very wiggly. WOndering if I got a dud.
(no startup htc touch pro) Depends in Haad image only

You probably had a bad flash. Follow the procedures on the OP and make sure that the files that you get (the roms) are not corrupted.

[Q] TF101 Completely dead

So my TF101 appears to be completely dead. I had it rooted and rom'd running KatKiss 4.3,not sure of which number . I loved it too. Anyway, before it died, it rebooted and would not leave the "updating apps"screen so I did a factory install which fixed the problem but only temporarily. A few days later the same thing happened. This time I could not even reboot it. I left it charged overnight but could not get it to boot at all. I think I have tried everything. I tried booting with and without being on the keyboard dock, I have tried plugging into the computer, tried hdmi to a monitor to see if the screen went bad. I tried seeing if the computer recognized it in APX mode. NOTHING. The USB charges the keyboard dock but does nothing for the tablet. The computer does not see it period. It looks completely dead. It is out of warranty but I even called ASUS and all they would do is charge me $340 to send it in.
I would love to troubleshoot to see if it is a board or battery or whatever gone bad , but I cannot find anything on the Web. Can anyone help. Otherwise it's a lovely paperweight.
It's possible that the battery has come to the end of it's life and won't hold any charge, which would explain why APX mode won't work, the PC can't power on the TF via USB, only trickle charge it while it's powered off / screen is off, but if the battery is dead then that's not gonna happen either
Not sure if the charger needs the battery for it to power on the TF too or not
You could try disconnecting the battery and plugging in the charger
Here is a good teardown video to show exactly how to get that done
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6dKsGJ4VY
Im not 100% sure, but if the dock battery is fine, you could check and see if the connections are the same and swap them over

Still DEAD
Detection,
Thanks for the awesome YouTube of breaking down the TF101. Unfortunately, I swapped batteries and still no good. Nothing happens. It looks like the old battery has power too, based on my multimeter. Is there anyone else with suggestions at this point or do I leave it as a nice paperweight?
THansk....
Apologies for resurrecting this thread. My TF101 (with dock) had also gone dead after running one of the KatKiss ROMs (maybe 4.2). Wouldn't charge, wouldn't turn on even to the bootloader or recovery. Charged it for days, nothing. I left it for dead and forgot about it for over 6 months. Uncovered it the other, dusted it off, charged it and it magically powered up. Everything was still on the tablet as it was before it went unresponsive.
My guess is that a microcontroller responsible for powering up the tablet got into a bad state. Even when powered off, these very low power microcontrollers remain on to handle the button press that powers on the device. It took the tablet being absolutely, fully discharged to clear it out of that bad state. Not just 0% as reported by the battery firmware, but a true complete emptying of the battery where its voltage drops below what the microcontroller needs to remain running.
Hopefully if you still have the TF101 after all this time, try charging it up all the way and see if it comes back to life.

Recovering a bricked uleFone Be Touch

Hi all,
Recently my brand-new Be Touch was suddenly bricked, I don't know why but it was unresponsive to everything... they screen just didn't wanted to show anything even when I connected the charger or plugged it to my laptop.
I tried all the instructions I found (there are really a lot of just googling "recover bricked phone"), even the official instructions to flash a new ROM (http://ulefone.com/download/betouch.html) But again nothing... screen completely black.
I tested the battery with a multimeter and it appeared to be full charge.
Finally when I had already contacted the seller for a return, I found a very old post (2013) about recovering a bricked device using Ubuntu (I'm using Linux Mint).
So I had SP Flashing Tool open (not doing anything special because it didn't detect my phone any longer) and in the Options -> Connections -> "with battery" marked.

The USB cable was plugged and the battery on its place.
I pressed "Power + Home" buttons simultaneously for around 30 seconds. It's real, I had tried before for around 10 seconds and nothing happened... and arriving to the 30th second suddently the screen brighted once, showing for an instant a 0% battery and went down again... Hope was back
I left the cable plugged for some minutes before touching anything. When I pressed again (5min) the percentage was still at 0% but the screen response was faster. So I decided to boot the phone and it started
It was connected and still showing 0% battery. It started as on the 1st boot, asking me for everything, but everything working. I wait for around 10 minutes and... the battery was still showing 0% :-/ I decided to turn it down for a faster charge.
I left it around 45 minutes shut down to reach the 15% of battery (fast charge they said!) after that it started charging a little bit faster, I waited until 100% before turning it on.
Once at 100% it booted well, restored my config and everything seems to work well again.
Today I have installed a battery repair app (called Repair Battery Life free on PlayStore), and it has detected around 10 deffective units on the battery :-/ (someone in red) but after clicking on "Fix it" and wait for some minutes it everything appears OK now. So I will pay more attention to it working and the battery from now on.
I don't know if all that story was caused by the battery... but at least my Be Touch is back
I'm trynig to paste screenshots of battery recovery, but I can't :-/
PS: if you find this info useful, I would appreciate if you click on "Thanks"
Maybe this post should be on "Help & Troubleshooting" ?
Not sure...

Nexus 5 reboots

Hi, when charger is connected my phone keeps rebooting on Google logo, when I disconnect a charger it has no signs of being alive. What should I do? Help me please
EDIT: now somehow i managed to get into fastboot, but when i try to get into recovery phone reboots again and shows full charged battery. What should I do now? I tried to flash stock and unroot via nexus root toolkit, i get the same.
Hi
I have had the same problem several times.
Mine was a sticky power button on a phone I keep very clean.
I haven't seen any discussion of this so I thought I was the only one.
At first I could tap the area around the button and it would loosen up and stop.
After some time that stopped working.
I tried to open the phone but found I had no access to the power button mechanism.
Last resort was a can of WD-40 with the straw on.
I sprayed a bit around the button and played with it for a few minutes and problem solved.
I was worried about the WD-40 inside the phone but haven't had any issues since.
This was about 3 months ago and would happen to me about once a month before.
I hope this helps.

i think my power button works perfectly, because everytime i try to go to fastboot it works. Now I see only "full battery charged" symbol like this:

im able to get ONLY into fast boot. Ive tried fastboot format and flashing everything stock, didn't helped. what should i do now?
That symbol does not mean the battery is full, it means the phone is connected to a charging source.

ohh. now i even cant get into fastboot. only google logo loop
Does the bootloader re-lock when the phone reboots?
Disconnect the usb cable from the charger, then re-connect the usb cable. Does the LED blink red?
Did you try using the original USB cable and charger that came with the phone? Do you have a wireless qi charging pad to try?
I dont have original, but with qi charger it reboots a little bit more often than on the wire charger
Boot loader stays unlocked.
It didnt blink red
Are you able to successfully flash a stock rom or does it reboot before it can flash? Could be a damaged memory chip.
I had this happen to the Nexus 5 I gave my mom. It would show no signs of life from any button combo but when plugged into the charger the Google logo would appear but then turn off again. I would be able to go bootloader but then it would restart. Guessed the power button had to be resoldered onto the device and took it to a repair shop last week where they confirmed
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
So anybody can help me?
I suggest opening up the phone, removing the motherboard, and press and release the power button several times in a row, using lots of pressure, but not so much pressure that you damage the button.
I had a phone that would reboot or power itself off at random. I was going to pay to have it fixed but I decided to open it up, clean out the phone, press a few times on the power button, and now it works. No random reboots or shutdowns.
Does your phone battery charge to 100%?
Maybe the phone has a battery problem, power button problem, or memory problem.

Keep it in charging for a few good hours and see if it goes somewhere in download or recovery. A hard brick won't even show a battery icon.
Without a working download or recovery mode, there is hardly any help.
Tried with another set of charger and cables?
