So my iPhone 5 would get constant LTE in my house and all around my town, but my Nexus 5 can't seem to pick up any unless I go to some urban area such as San Fran. I did the Global->LTE setting and I got LTE in my house for a second but then it switched back to 3G. Any idea what could be causing this?
Try a prl/profile update and see where that gets you. Every phone pretty much has different results. My HTC one had barely any lte, where my gnex, s4, and nexus 5 get it consistently.

Earlier this week, I went to AT&T to get a new micro sim for my Nexus 5. It works fine on HSPA+. However, I never see it go to LTE. Using the speedtest app, my d/l speeds max out at 2.5Mbps.
I am in an LTE coverage area. I stood right next to a couple of my co-workers with a Moto X and iphone 5. Both of their phones say LTE.
I called 611 (AT&T customer service) to make sure I had LTE coverage. According to their system, both my phone and plan say LTE.
Am I missing anything? Do I need to do anything (play with any settings) to make LTE go on?
Help...
Is it set to LTE and CDMA/GSM?
LTE is selected
Interesting I'm getting mine today and will be using AT&T I'll let you know if I have the same problem
Very weak LTE for me too. I'm a little disappointed in that, but I'm getting 5-8Mbps down with HSPA+
My LTE works fine on AT&T, I've ran some tests and seen 30Mbps
is your account provisioned for LTE?

I'm getting LTE with no problem. I'm getting about 20 down and 12 up. The only so far I don't like is the speaker volume. It may be YouTube, but it's horrible.

mine is correctly provisioned, and i do see LTE, but it's very weak for me where friends with a Moto X and iPhone 5 see full LTE coverage.
My Nexus 4 on T-Mobile would stay on LTE all day, but my Nexus 5 gets off LTE and goes back to HSPA+ when it drops to 2 bars or less. I am very aggravated. I can get it on LTE if I show it that there is LTE around by going to the secret dialer menu and enabling LTE only, but it is like it doesn't want to get on LTE unless it is 4-5 bars.
I need to see how my wife's Nexus 5 operates and I may end up RMAing mine.
I have yet to see my Nexus 5 on LTE (AT&T), i'm coming from an HTC One and that has connected to LTE without issues, not sure what the issue is, if AT&T is blocking it because its an 'unknown device' or what, has anybody discovered anything new on this?

Works great on AT&T's LTE network on the n5, SIM originally from a Lumia 920 also LTE.
No problem here with SIM out of S3. I did notice that he automatically changed my APN's. It only pulled ATT Phone and ATT WAP. Its set to Phone. I am roughly same speed as s3

I'm using a new micro sim since I was previously using a galaxy nexus. I'm thinking that it might be an apn setting issue. If there any way you (or someone else) could list their apn settings? A screenshot would be great.. Thanks in advance.
Works fine for me using the stock APN
I walked in my AT&T store, handed my Nexus 5 still in the box to a tech, she unboxed it, put in a sim booted it up, download SpeedTest app and with a LTE tower right next to the store these were the numbers I got.

exactly the same experience. walked in today with my N5, handed it to the tech, transferred my # (coming from VZW), activated a new sim, put it in and off i went into LTE land. no issues at all
I've had the same issue since I got my Nexus 5 last Monday. Went to store, she put in LTE sim. Mine only show H. That's it just "H". Called at&t several times. They tried different settings on the phone. Suppose to send me another sims card in the mail. Also, said they "escalated" my case to a specialist. I should have it resolved by Nov. 11th.
I just simply pop in my sim from my s4

Love the Nexus 5. By far the perfect phone. But my question is does anyone get any drop signals? At times my data will just go completely blank then come back. Could be the my area. But just had to ask.
No problems with AT&T in SE Michigan.
Well it could just be the area that I am. The wife has a iphone 5s and she gets none of the drop calls.
No issues with me in STL.

I definitely think that the signal is a bit worse than it was on my One X. It tends to drop completely in areas where my One X had marginal signal but still connected. I'm in Northeast Florida.
I've actually had this the last few days, a split second of no service and then back to normal. This is in thy southwest and west suburbs of Chicago.

I notice the signal strength shows low (2-3 bars lower) compared to my old S4 but when I make a call it jumps to max. Could this be a battery saving thing?

Just to be clear you did not flash any custom roms with radios or anything right?
No issues here. I travel weekly for work and so far I can say no issues in the following areas:
Lexington, KY
College Station, TX
Atlanta, GA
Houston, TX
Knoxville, TN
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it is just AT&T and in your area. I carry a Verizon Galaxy S4 and my Nexus 5 on AT&T around. I can consistently get awesome coverage and 25-35mbit speeds on my Verizon phone. Sometimes I question if AT&T data is even working, and a speedtest will show only 5mbit down. I know its not the Nexus 5 because I can have other random people I am with on AT&T do speedtest on various phones and have the same issue.

I work in central Mass, and the signal in my office is horrid... for LTE. If I force it to only use HSPA+ (Settings > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > 3G) I have full service of HSPA+ and no dropped signals. Coming from an HTC One (where there are like... 25 bars to display signal) I'm thinking it's just an aesthetic change for me mostly.

2 biggest battery drains are screen and radios. Newer radio chips are much better at conserving juice. And why turn up the radios if you don't need them. S800 soc has a lot of battery saving features, and newer lte chips use a lot less juice.
In other words, yes, that's a battery saving thing.
Coming from a gnex, this has great battery life, and has double the cores and clock speeds, and a graphics chip that compares to a lower end pc add in video card. Gotta love that technology!
Just bought this phone from T-Mobile and I'm getting barely 2 bars just like my vzw s4. Doesn't matter if its LTE or not either. Could it be the phone or my apartment?
I get almost full 4g bars on my vzw s4 and this one is around 3 or 4 4g bars everywhere else but my apartment.
So frustrated as I have no home phone and need a phone that works at home.

Is it better just outside your apartment? If so it could be the building construction blocking the signal (I've been in buildings like that). If its the same just outside, then you are not in a strong signal area. Having said that 2 bars should be enough signal for calls and data, I can usually make calls and get data with only 1 bar on.
My apartment building materials kill all cell signals, no one gets more than 2 bars in my apartment. I get 1 bar occasionally 2 on T-Mobile and I get 5 Mbps down perfectly usable.

Phone works perfectly fine even on 1 bar.

Verizon phone and Tmobile phone (got 14 days to return the Tmobile if it doesn't work better than VZW does). Inside the apartment, if I'm near the side of the place near a window I get 1 bar if that. I have to constantly move around in the window area to keep the signal going. Same for Verizon. I step outside and I get a max of 2 bars anywhere around the apartment building. It's more like 1 bars, sometimes 2. That's with Verizon as well. Tmobile doesn't even get 4g out here when they actually told me yea, they saw they had 4g coverage out here. Verizon is at least 4g, but with 1 bar. So Tmobile flat out lied about having 4g in my area.
I really love the Nexus 5, but if I can't use it on Tmobile because of signal issues I'm just going to cancel it and return the phone. Figured I'd do a test run with their version just to see how well it worked before shelling out the $400 for the Google Play phone.
Just walked around the apartment doing another test with both devices and I don't even have 1 bar on Verizon, or if I do it's so small you can't notice it on the signal icon. And no service at all on tmobile. Sucks because I really want to keep the Nexus 5, love the phone, but if I can't fix this no service issue I'm going to have to get rid of it.
I have a nexus 5 and just recently got LTE coverage in my area. I know that LTE is data only so when I make a call it drops LTE coverage and I get HSPA+. However the issue that I am having is that after I hang up the call it stays on HSPA rather than go back to LTE. It has taken anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours to regain LTE coverage after making a call. On my girlfriends iPhone on AT&T after making a call her phone regains LTE coverage immediately. Is this normal for T-Mobile ?
I would say it's not normal. I'm on T-Mobile and my N5 goes from HSPA back to LTE almost immediately.

Does toggling data off then back on fix it? I've never experienced this myself, but I fully recognize that I don't really ever care to know if I'm on hspa or lte, (or even 3g for that matter) and very rarely do I even have the notification bar open to even know if I do. But I suspect it might. I also suspect that if this is indeed an issue, that exchanging your phone won't change anything.
Dude T mobile sucks arse unless you live like directly under a tower. At least in the northwest CT their service is complete garbage. By Tmob. Hello ATT

PS You're advertising for the wrong cellular company in your profile. It still says you're on Verizon.
Sorry, lol. I really don't have a computer. Just browser on tapatalk lol. Can't edit it from that and I haven't updated my profile since the day I got my N5 and that was only my signature
But in all reality T-Mobile is garbage. They talk the talk but are far from walking the walk. Taking my N5 to ATT for a month lol.
Dude stop generalizing... Been on tmo for a month and a half now in NYC, surrounding environs, SC, CT and coverage has been good. Not great when you're further away from a major city but to say they're complete garbage is very misleading.

I live outside of Sacramento and T-Mobile coverage is great here. I get 10-15mpbs on HSPA+. 20-30mbps on LTE.
I'm in Chicago, and have noticed that I am barely averaging a single bar on LTE with my S6 edge, whereas my Nexus 5 was fine. I've read a couple of posts elsewhere complaining of similar issues on the Sprint site. Anyone else? Could this just be a firmware/radio problem? My PRL and profile are up to date.
I too am having troubles with my LTE signal on my edge. I also live in Chicago. I recently upgraded from an HTC one M8.

I'll try that on my phone, I am experiencing the same thing in Milwaukee
Im having issues as well this is really pissing me off its an $850 phone for God's sake.
I guess it depends a lot on area. I live in SoCal, north Orange County to be more specific, and my LTE performance is way better than my Sprint GS4 in terms of speed, coverage, and stability.

Each manufacturer uses the signal bars differently in terms of interpreting strength of signal. I would suggest downloading signal check pro and comparing.
That being said, the s6 is generally worse RF wise than the n5 and s5, which was known before hand. Not alot worse, but slightly. Typically about -5db

With my Sprint Galaxy S4 and Nexus 5 on AT&T, I never reached such speeds.
First run. Band 41 (Clearwire 2500 MHz).
I'm also getting 4G LTE in more places than before compared to the S4. For instance, I would always fall down to 3G inside a Costco in Garden Grove I go to. But yesterday, I was on Band 41 and the speed was good. Same for my front porch and inside my home - from 3G to 4G LTE on Band 41.
I don't know i try everything, reset the phone, clean cache, switch to lte/CDMA, updated prl and firmware, new provisioning, still lag in opening any data dependent app
Chicago area
No problems before on s3 s4 and s5 witch is also spark

Same issue here in Miami, well similar. Some apps on Sprints Network take forever to load data, keep in mind it's only Apps. Like Google Music, Facebook, Instagram and a couple more. If I connect to WiFi it all works fast and information loads immediately. Once again on Sprints Network it loads and loads and loads you get the point....
The only thing that solves this issue is connecting through a VPN. When i'm on sprints network and on VPN it all works as it should. WTF Sprint.
I am constantly moving between 1 bar with spark, and 3G. I ran the speed test and don't even get near 1mbps. Last week my Galaxy s4 was at least 10 times faster than my s6 edge. hoping for updates that fix this.

Same here in Austin. My wife and I were sitting in the waiting room at the vet so our dog could get his checkup. I was trying to download a book on the Kindle app and had only 1 bar. I ran the speedtest app and was lucky to get a download speed of 100k. My wife has Sprint's GS5 and was showing 4 bars with Spark and getting 10Mbps on the Speedtest app. I had her turn her hotspot on and I connected via wifi. Then I thought, why doesn't the vet's office offer wifi since there always seems to be people waiting. Of course, it really wouldn't be an issue if my expensive new GS6 Edge worked just as well as the GS5. I really hope an update comes out soon that fixes it. Also sad that it suffers from the same 'you can't do data and voice at the same time' issue that the GS5 had.
Returned mine two phones, couldn't stand it .Called sprint they waived restocking fee .
I think you guys should start calling them the guy from tech support said they not aware of the issue.
