I own the 32gb version but I'd say around 12.5gb. I think that's about what my Nexus 4 had.

16gb isn't that bad unless you download a ton of data, music, videos, etc. I never maxed out on my N4 although I was like 2gb-3gb away from it.
Do you use a lot of data? If so you also have the option of using a storage cloud (which I find somewhat inconvenient).

I use around 6-7 gb of music and 1 gb of development stuff (like roms mods etc). I think 16 is enough but I need to sure because this will be my phone for at least 2 years
So that'll leave you with around 4-5gb. More than likely I'm willing to bet that you won't keep this phone for the full 2 years. Every time I get a phone I say the same thing but it never happens. The most I ever lasted with 1 particular phone was probably 10 months to a year. I think you'll be fine on 16gb or check eBay or some other site to see if you can get the 32gb version. I'm pretty sure there's a way to do so. Or even check the Marketplace section of XDA and see if there's a respected member that's willing to ship the phone to you granted you cover the shipping cost.

The US version will have LTE problems here and every 32 gb version I saw is way overpriced.
I have that problem right now with my Desire X but the N5 will stand longer at least
I had no idea it'll face LTE issues. Good luck on that though.

USABLE space for the user is:
26.7 GB for the 32 GB
12.55 GB for the 16 GB
Not an answer to the direct question but i have the 32g and also use a micro USB drive .
USB drive requires stickmount pro and root explorer pro .that external solution that some would like to have

You can use Micro USB drive with Stickmount free and any file explorer, although root access is a bonus as sometimes stickmoutn doesn't give write permissions to the drive.
Also there are custom kernels that allow OTG mounting without stickmount.

Yes, it has to be KitKat. I wrote Spotify service a few days ago and they replied that they're working on it.
The exact words were:
Hello Oliver,
Thanks for that.
Think you are absolutely right and thank you for getting in touch.
I have passed this on to the developers and we will look to fix it as soon as possible.
When this happens we send our best techies to the secret laboratory under an active volcano.
They wont leave till its fixed.
We get King Kong to guard the door so no one comes to distract the with awesome new music.
Kindest regards

Just added this to my subscription so that I could use it on my nexus to find it will not work on my rooted device.
I only rooted to install a volume mod (which i would like to keep) but not that bothered about ROMs etc.
Anyway to get this working while keeping root?
Can I remove root but keep my volume mod on there now its installed?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

If its been talked about a lot then I guess the answer should be simple, which is.........?

I believe the answer is no, but you'd have to look into it further.
Edit: Yep, using "Search all open forums" for "Sky go root" hundreds of threads found.

Thank you
Found some when I searched again and filtered the search to specific 'sky go'
There should be some kind of mention on this when you go to install the app, or better still not let you install it if your rooted. I think its crafty they do that and then have you pay for the extra feature you can't use!
Going to have to ring them and get it cancelled as don't want to loose the volume mod.

I would like to store my music on cloud to save space as I only have a 16GB Nexus 5. Google Music upload service is not yet available in my country
Could someone please recommend an alternative app that's free like Google Music upload service?

Setup a subsonic server.
www.subsonic.org
But after 30 days, it's not free? I heard you will pay every 30days?

The server is free. Premium services are either monthly or annual, take your pick. Third-party apps are either free or cost a few bucks to..you guessed it,..support the devs that give you support back. Kinda like the way Android works.
This is what the written in their latest app
*Welcome to Subsonic
....
After a 30-day free trial period you must upgrade to Subsonic Premium to continue using this app. Enjoy these extra features after upgrading:
So we are forced to pay after 30days.. Hmmm i think that's ok if they have cloud service, but we are using our own machine, why make us pay every month..

All I could find was MSpot Radio:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mspot.android.music.mspotradiosprint&hl=en
There is a freebie server and app called Qloud, I found it worked okay, but no where near the level of development of Subsonic and it's sharing/control, etc.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.qiss.vega.ad&hl=en
Mate, subsonic requires you to pay after 30days fir the mobile app to keep working with your server
Anyways, i found an alternative, ES File Explorer app. Its a file explorer app but it also lets you setup a cloud account. And you can play music using its built in music player
Downside is its music player lack some feature. But its better than nothing and it works like a charm and best if all its absolutely free!

Google Music can be setup in any country, I did it before it was available in my country officially. Just search on Google and you will find out how to do it.
I'm interested to find alternative to Google Music too
I tried "4shared music" but the player is very not good.

You're absolutely correct mate. all in all, I only have 20GB of music that I want to access anytime. My Box cloud account has 50GB of free storage, that's more than enough.
And unlike subsonic, I dont need to turn on my own computer just to access it.

But it sucks because I know it's not on our side, almost certainly with XDA. I changed my IP just in case by spoofing my Mac on my router but still nothing. Other forums work well. It's unfortunately a big problem that only a handful of us are experiencing. Waiting game til someone hears our cries for help I suppose.

Thank you good sir. Didn't know that was there even after looking I'll admit. So it seems like a lot of other people are having the same problem. It definitely makes dealing with something easier when you're not the only one and saves from having to troubleshoot.
Edit : can confirm its something between XDA and our ISPs.
The problem I described happens on Xfinity Comcast Internet.
However, the problem does not occur at all on LTE T-Mobile.

Hello,
I intend on replacing my Galaxy Alpha SM-G850A with a Nexus 5 D820 because the SM-G850A cannot be rooted. They are both in similar price brackets but I had a few questions before buying the Nexus 5; answers weren't found when searching.
A) Is there a root method for all operating system variants INCLUDING Lollipop 5.1? Can you please provide documentation/links for me to read over.
B) Many say the camera is terrible. I don't care a whole lot about the camera but is there a thread or website somewhere demonstrating photos from the Nexus 5 that are not resized or tampered with and in various lighting conditions?
C) Are there any known hardware issues with the Nexus 5? Software issues won't matter so much as I will be using a custom ROM.
D) Would you recommend another phone smaller than 5.5" display and below $350 USD?
E) Anything else I should know?
Thank you to those that take the time to respond.
Camera is ok(depends on how you use it,i took better pictures than my gf who has iPhone 6).
Yes you can root it even on android M.
The end.
What destroys me just a little bit on the inside is you went out of your way to do a few things that are going to piss off the whole community.
1. You clearly did NOT search, it is 2015 this device is NOT new.
2. You wasted time creating a thread that can be answered by AGAIN searching google, or better yet; the NEXUS 5 forum here on XDA.
