Hello,
I intend on replacing my Galaxy Alpha SM-G850A with a Nexus 5 D820 because the SM-G850A cannot be rooted. They are both in similar price brackets but I had a few questions before buying the Nexus 5; answers weren't found when searching.
A) Is there a root method for all operating system variants INCLUDING Lollipop 5.1? Can you please provide documentation/links for me to read over.
B) Many say the camera is terrible. I don't care a whole lot about the camera but is there a thread or website somewhere demonstrating photos from the Nexus 5 that are not resized or tampered with and in various lighting conditions?
C) Are there any known hardware issues with the Nexus 5? Software issues won't matter so much as I will be using a custom ROM.
D) Would you recommend another phone smaller than 5.5" display and below $350 USD?
E) Anything else I should know?
Thank you to those that take the time to respond.
Camera is ok(depends on how you use it,i took better pictures than my gf who has iPhone 6).
Yes you can root it even on android M.
The end.
What destroys me just a little bit on the inside is you went out of your way to do a few things that are going to piss off the whole community.
1. You clearly did NOT search, it is 2015 this device is NOT new.
2. You wasted time creating a thread that can be answered by AGAIN searching google, or better yet; the NEXUS 5 forum here on XDA.
3. I wasted my time typing this, yet again to another person who doesn't understand how to read forum rules before accepting them.
But to humour you.
A - YES. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=How+to+root+nexus+5+android+5.1
B - POOP (sometimes)
C - it depends on the custom OS you will be using.
D - G3 maybe? G4 if used?
E - how to search and use XDA accordingly, google is your best friend.

It is a question that was asked here on Nexus S forum at least 100 times. If you bought your phone yesterday, at least read a little bit more here on Forum about your phone, instead of opening new threads.
The same is with your thread about Music App, I gave you the answer - use the Market enabler.

And I appreciate it but it didn't work for me. Also I did do a Google search but didn't really find anything definitive hence why I came here.
Did you do a search on the actual forum, not just google?

I had the same situation 2 days ago (with the i9023), and found the other threads to not be so helpful. I think its acceptable to post this here in xda, after all what does Google know that xda doesn't?
Guys this was questioned many times and the answer is here on XDA even on Google. We want to respect the newcomers but only if you are not lazy and inform you properly before opening new threads.

Yup. But didn't get anything...probably because the search function on most forums suck. Either that or I suck at using it

i had the 94% issue with 2.3.3 (which was what it came with when i bought it). Once I upgraded to 2.3.4 it goes up to 99-100...regardless of how much power there is in the battery, they did change something with 2.3.4 as far as % reporting. Maybe so people would stop asking

You may want to read this to understand why it doesn't go to 100%

Good morning XDA,
I'm probably not the only one here that has the same issue, so I'll just ask. Coming from the xperia Z the nexus 5 just blew me away. New phone , very exiting. But in the last few weeks that excitement kind of went away. I'm currently on Mahdi ROM with Franco r35 kernel. Now my question: what are fun new things you can do with your nexus 5 to get that excitement kind of back? I'm a complete enthusiast and I really like new stuff so I hope you guys can help me

Hello all,
I worked a long time with the HTC Sensation, tested roms up till the last ones here on the forum, but finally he doesn't work anymore (even no charging light with different battery's).
So it was time finally to switch to Samsung as it's the producer of most Android phones, so most support, roms,...
I haven't followed this Samsung forum section yet, which are the newest & stable roms at the moment that you can recommend ?
PS : i like that startscreen with news / facebook / agenda... in squares, a bit windows 8 like news overview (I don't know how it's called), is this also in a recent rom or where can i find the apk file ?
I think I will receive the Samsung next week with the old Jellybean Android rom.
Bought it for +-€200 second hand in excellent condition, don't want to pay laptop prices of €400-€500 for the S4/S5, as long as it's fast enough, 4G and HD screen i'm satisfied
My friend recommended the LG Nexus 5 of €300 (better than the Iphone) but that's again 1/3 more expensive.
Thanks for any tips!!!
Kit Kat rom , my recommendation is omni
If you like 4.3 ROM, amcha.
The tile thing, I think you could just simply use a launcher to achieve it.

Its the same. Its in the rules. No matter how u phrase the question, any way of asking for best rom is not allowed.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
one size doesn't fit it all - that's why are all those great ROMs out there...chose the one you like and suits your needs...for me is stock+root+DeKnox...
if still has warranty don't even think about upgrading to stock 4.3.
Mod Edit
"Best" or "Recommend" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.
Don't forget to make a nandroid before you start.

Most likely there wont be a nexus 6. What phone will be the pure vanilla android when the nexus devices stop ?
its called a rumor, and thats all it is. just like the millions of other rumors for other devices. these rumors are around every year. only google knows whats up, not these internet blogs who make up remors. it will still be around, but google cant call it nexus 6, as that name is already trademarked.

The 4 other google play edition phones on the playstore lol
There are always going to be vanilla Android devices and there's always going to developer device whether it's called a Nexus, Android Silver, Google Play Edition, Developer Edition, etc. The fact is, it's always going to be around. Google needs the support of developers and developers need an affordable, unlockable vanilla Android device, so it will always be around in some form.
It will be called the Nexus 666! A very Hot and devilish device!

I freaking hate the new android lollipop update. It lags my phone considerably!!! Apps stutter, pause, and crash often. I can't be in a call and open another app at the same time as this will cause my phone to hang up. This is a piece of garbage!!!

Ok
Take a deep breath, backup everything important, hit the factory reset option and let the magic begin(hopefully)
I've clean flashed the factory image since it was available and have no ram/lag/stutter issues whatsoever.
Good luck
This isn't a venting forum. Its a developers forum, by and for developers. The fact that many of the members here are not developers or wannabe developers, doesn't mean this is an everyday support forum. If you want advice, ask a specific question please, otherwise let's keep vents and rants out of it.

what version of google play services are you on? 6.1 or 6.5? A reboot will temporariliy fix your issues for at least a day or two. not too bad of a stop gap solution until there's a permanent fix from google. in the meantime be patient.
Somebody didn't do a fresh install.....

What method do you use to backup before a factory reset? adb backup?
I've already done a factory reset. No dice. Reboot does solve my problems for like 2 days.
Only reason I vent here is cuz everyone else I talk to about it don't care. And I'm also hoping that maybe, just maybe someone on here may have a solution.

So what you're saying is unless you're a developer, you don't belong here? And if you have a simple question about android go ask it elsewhere because this is where serious developers work and only serious development questions should be asked here.
So sorry that my one little post caused you so much distraction to take you away from your very important development work. I did only title my post as wanted to vent so you didn't have to open and read it.

Reboot the phone in safe mode and see if it's still having issues. If not, it's an app causing the issues

No. What i said is if you want to ask a question, ask it. But yes, this IS a developers forum and not an android support forum, so what I'm saying is if you want to vent, don't do it here. Do it somewhere else, such as Facebook or an android support forum. We're already putting up with non development related questions. We shouldn't have to put up with waste-of-space vent threads too. Its not the place for them

Ok, well apparently you can't read between the lines or make inferences. So here you go: "Does anyone have a solution to this problem?"
Happy now? Question.

Happier, yes. But my point was if you want help, ask. If you vent then expect help when you don't phrase a specific question, you're lucky to get any. That is all.
