Do you guys think Google/LG - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Will look inside my phone to see if it's been modified? I did the speaker mod where you open it up to get louder volume and compared it to my brother who got Hus Nexus 5 two weeks after I did when it launched and his phone is way louder and clearer. His phone also can get LTE mine can't

Wouldn't surprise me if they did. What type of mod did you do?

The mod with the needle and poking holes into the plastic speaker portion.

You've voided warranty as I'm sure you know.

Deliberately hiding it would be fraudulent. You'll get no advice on that here. You'll just have to send them it an if they ask, admit it.

First of all this stuff isn't supposed to be talked about on XDA. Second of all, in what planet do people not notice needle holes in a speaker?! The person inspecting your phone either has to be blind, or close to blind.

The thing is, I don't think they'll inspect it.

You are sadly mistaken my friend. Of course they do. It's actually pretty easy to tell if this phone was opened. Once they see that, they'll open it, then happily charge your credit card. If you don't think they will, then take a chance and send it to them.

Pretty sure they will. Most the time they do some sort of inspection to ensure it was a warranty problem.

The thing is, my tampering of the device didn't cause the problems with my model, I've had them from the beginning, but attempted a work around instead of sending it back in the first place.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I was mainly just wondering if this can be disputed and looking for options from people who have had successful or unsuccessful experiences.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

You can dispute it if you flashed a custom rom / rooted and have a hardware failure that is unrelated. If you open the phone up, you void the warranty as per the terms and conditions you bought the device under. There is no disputing that. The warranty is void and thats that.

Why didn't you just RMA it before opening it up. You may have gotten a better unit with a better speaker. At least that's what happened with me. I just received a replacement (it always said no signal for some reason) and it has a much better speaker than my first one. What exactly are you returning the phone for?

Because it wasn't purchased under my credit card it was purchased under another persons that gave me permission to use theirs, as I do not own a credit card. I thought the only way I'd be able to fix my issue would be to do that speaker mod, which improved the audio sound greatly, but it's still not up to standard compared to my brother's brand new nexus 5, which is why I want to return it. It was shipped with flaws to begin with and my modifications did nothing but improve the issue. I was under the impression that a warranty wouldn't be voided if it was a hardware issue that wasn't caused by the user as a friend of mine managed to get a replacement on his.

It wasn't necessarily shipped with a "flaw" it was designed that way to begin with. The bigger speaker holes on your brother's phone is merely an "improvement".

The thing is, he doesn't have the improved model he purchased his 2 weeks after I had purchased mine. I asked him if I could test his speakers, then he heard mine. His are twice as loud. I consider that a flaw, tbh.
Considering that there's no "Warning you might void your warranty sticker" I could easily dispute it. Especially if you're going by the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act.

G2X No Longer on T-Mobiles Website

So if you go to T-Mobile's site and search for the G2x the only products that come up are the home dock and the car dock.
Any ideas as to why this could be?
Edit: was told the phone was on backorder via chat with rep. Sounds fishy. Even if the phone were on backorder they would still sell the phone and advise the purchaser that it was on backorder.

Wow
Wow, either they are admitting there are problems and removing it from sale for now or just an error. Gotta swing by a store and see if they still have it.
I notice they advertise it on their main page, but if you go to shop all phones its not there.... very weird. Hopefully they're not ditching out on the phone

I hope it's just an inventory thing. I don't wanna find out there's something wrong with this phone, the fact being the G2x I just bought from Amazon is on it's way now.

If it is a QC issue I wonder what T-Mobile will do about it. Complete refunds or exchanges of similar devices - i.e., Sensation.
I doubt they would drop the product all together or that they will issue refunds or excahnges. My theory is that they might stop sales until a update is released.

If they did pull it for QC issues I really hope they do either give me a refund or exchange it for a comparable device (sensation I'm guessing)
Just remember the G1... they pulled it out of the lineup to catch up. Same thing went for the HD2, and a few others. You'll notice the magenta sidekick is in the same boat for upgrades. It's not quality, it's "we way oversold." I confirmed this with a friend that works in a call center.
Omitted !!!!
WoW I'm glad I returned mine, not saying that they wouldn't have taken it back any ways but this is a huge blow. If I were g2x owner I'd take it back today!

Why and what phone would we get to replace the g2x when sensation haven't came out yet
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
Why do people care so much whether your current phone is on the website or not? I understand people interested in buying it but why do you care if you already have a G2X? You have a T-Mobile and Manufacturer warranty and if you are worried, return the phone.
My phone is far from perfect but yet the G2X is still the best phone I've ever owned. I couldn't care less if they stopped selling it. Might actually be cool to have a limited edition phone

Ur obviously not getting the point here. If they pulled the device for Qc issues and they push out new versions or fixed devices then ppl who already have the phone that has issues want to know if they can get a replacements. You have the device and it mysteriously disappears from tmo site, wouldn't I concerned that ur device is faulty
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
just spoke to TMO, they said they have no information about it but I spoke to an account specialist in customer loyalty and asked if it does turn out to be true would they offer refunds or replace the phone, they said yes they would if it ends up to be true. They would either repair it, replace it(Guess when they fix the issues) or give a like device

I have an N1 so when I took back my G2x went back to it. I am patient and await the out of come of this craziness to determine wheter I'm going to just wait for the Hercules to come out. I refuse to get another HTC device until they fix their battery consumption issues.
I got stuck on a trip - my G2X battery started getting EXTREMELY hot and eventually would not charge past 20% - and had to go get another phone. No choice, had to have a phone.
TMobile was "kind" enough to replace my battery, despite the fact that the G2x constantly reboots, and has screen bleed.

Screen Bleed Swap out days are over

After only a single attempt at a warranty replacement I finally got word from TMO today that they will no longer swap handset's for screen bleeding issues. The rep told me that it is now considered a known issue and will not swap anymore phones because they know that the new one will have the same issues as well. I asked if she knew anymore information about it and she said the only thing that they know is that LG is working on a permanent fix.
I asked if that meant a new handset for those with the screen issue and of course she did not know but also stated that the fix/replace/repair is definitely a hardware problem and LG is expected to make right on it. So for now Ill deal with random reboots, shutdowns, and crappy battery until the update. I'm just curious on how they are going to remedy the situation. Hopefully a release comes out soon at least identifying the issue.
So if you can still trade in then by all means go for it. I have had two reps tell me now that as of the 24th, they no longer exchange due to screen bleed. I didnt push the issue on a new phone cause I like this phone and want to see how it all turns out now that LG has the ball.

On another note I did speak with a CSR today her name was Nicole. She told me she could exchange for another if I wanted or she could offer me a nice discount on another phone. I rejected both, I was just trying to fish for information. So maybe the whole we are not replacing news hasn't filtered down to everyone yet, or you just got a rep that is tired of exchanging out G2X's

Ha... I've swapped out over 5 Mytouch 4Gs and the best way to go about it is through the chat on their website.
It all depends on the Rep. I read on the MT4G forum they quit swapping out phones for the screen issue with that phone... It's a wash. Depends on who you talk to and how their day is going apparently.
If at first you don't succeed... Call another rep... LOL

It's really an easy fix.....they just need to limit the backlight output to about 45% of the current max.
The screen bleed will almost never be visible, at that new max brightness. Of course when outside, and you want to kick up the brightness to max....it just won't perform the same.
The Optimus Black is supposed to be the new NOVA screens....I have not bothered to check to see what the bleed complaints are over there. Switching out the G2x to the NOVA screen as an undocumented upgrade would not be out of the question.

This is totally YMMV with the reps. She had to take some time and look it up in the "knowledge base" and said that she learned something new. It may have just been me but the rude chat representative and now the rep from the phonecall said the same thing. I guess it all depends on how much you push. I was most happy just to know that now it is seen as a legitimate issue by both TMO and LG and am waiting for the resolve.
I just got one swapped out yesterday. They gave me free overnight shipping too. This is like the 5th time, if its not free I guess I'm confident ill get to keep it. You see I learned during my call yesterday that they now charge five bucks for using warranty, that's a change in contract, 30 days to reject the new changes. Even still, I'm on my 5th G2X, completelly unacceptable!

See this is an example of why t-mobile sucks. They've sold phones that THEY KNOW ARE DEFECTIVE...and won't replace them. I understand it'd be stupid to replace them with another G2X - but they should a) give us our money back or b) exchange it for another phone like the sensation or mytouch4G. The fact that they don't is probably grounds for a lawsuit. If anyone is interested I'm thinking of filing one.
Luckily for me, I only had to swap mine once to get a phone without backlight bleed. Even on max, it's hardly noticeable. My first one was horrible, even below 50%. Now, the wait for an update begins.
im getting a replacement but there charging me 20 bucks to do so! i got the shiz end of the deal
Or they could directly seal the screen to the glass like. In the iphone and galaxy s lineup

Not necessarily. If you bring up prices in asking for a replacement (i.e. I paid $180 for my G2x and Sensation is now cheaper) they'll frequently feel pressured into sending you one. My brother swapped his out for a Sensation, claimed the Sensy had overheating problems, and got a replacement MT4G Slide.
When I popped that response into the google narcissism translator, this is what it spit out: i wanted to post something that offers zero value to this thread, xda, or anyone else in this world. As a matter of fact, I wanted to post something that has zero value for a single thing on this entire earth, outside of puffing up my ego. I'm so thankful I have avenues such as the internet to sharpen and feed my narcissism. I'm so full now.. I'm so happy. I feel great. Wow, it's like a drug. I hope someone argues with my stance so I can keep getting fed....

Hello all, I am new to the Nexus 5. I bought mine two days ago. I was really impressed with it at first, but now I'm being told by everyone who I speak to on calls, I sound distant, fuzzy and my mic is crackling. Also, there's a few black dots on the screen. I have done some quick research and found lots and lots of information regarding this issue. However, what I really want to know is, considering this is annoying me like crazy, is it even worth returning it and getting another one? I seen a few posts on other sites and one user had returned 5 times and still had faults. I don't know if I can trust LG again. The problem is, I love this phone so much! :/ I have 30 days to return my phone because of these faults and can either get a refund or an exchange. I don't even think there are any alternatives in the £300 price range :/ I sold my iPhone 5C for this as well! :/

That's certainly promising. I can't see how they'd be able to overlook such a big hardware flaw if it is hardware, so I guess software could be the problem.
We all have the microphone issue. It just depends how much we notice it. Dodgy noise cancellation algorithm. Just record a video with the tv in the background, you'd probably notice it

I'm definitely not pretending it doesn't exist. I guess I've never noticed the issue since I never used video recording on this phone. Also no one has told me anything about the call quality having static. If its a known issue that you can bear with then I'd say wait it out and see if the issue gets rectified with the next software update but then again black dots on the screen might be a bit annoying for me to view so I'd probably still do the replacement.

It is a well known issue and has easy fixes as well. Simply covering the secondary mic is one of them, check out the threads discussing this issue for more help.
Personally I haven't had anyone complain about my voice and they seem to hear me fine for the most part so I've not taken any action. You also mentioned you may have dead pixels and if so you might want to RMA because of that.
The vast majority of users don't come on to report "all is well here" and so when you read forums you get a concentration of people with issues, or some unlucky/overly picky RMAers.

Warranty question: LCD cracked but glass is perfect

Pulled out my month old Nexus out of my pocket, and to my dismay, I found my LCD had cracked. The phone was not dropped or abused in any way and always had a tpu case on it. The glass is still perfect. The right half of the touchscreen works sporadically also so I'm assuming that both the LCD and Digitizer cracked. Pictures are attatched below. Will this be covered under LG's warranty or am I better off buying the parts and replacing it myself, as I have experience with fixing my own phones.
Personally I would not feel obligated to replace that myself, and there should be no reason for that to happen.

That's what I'm thinking, but LG said that I'd have to send it in for them to SEE if it would be covered under warranty, that I'd be responsible for the shipping charges to and fro, and that if they determined it wasn't covered that I'd be responsible for the repair charges. I want my phone fixed and I know it wasn't my fault, but I don't want to end up with a $300 repair bill, that's why I'm asking if anyone has experience with this type of situation.

I would send it in take my chances. I would insist its a workmanship defect. Make sure you take plenty of pictures to demonstrate that their are no physical damage from the outside.

Agree. Don't be afraid to argue them on it either.

Why are you going through LG and not through Google? I thought Google provides warranty for N5s.

I contacted google and the lady that answered told me that LG would offer me repair options and transferred me. Would a different rep let me do the fix through Google?
Google do RMA. LG do warranty repair. You can only RMA to google if you purchased from Play.
If you purchased from play, not sure why you're being sent to LG

He's being sent to LG because it's a cracked display. Not an RMA and not covered under warranty. You can put enough pressure on the glass to crack the LCD and not break the glass. That's most likely what happened here. OP I'd still send it to them but be prepared to pay for it. Good luck man.

So why are LG assessing whether it's covered by warranty?

They'll assess it. But I'd bet a lot of money they will say it's not covered. I've been wrong before so maybe the OP will let us know the outcome in a week or so.
Sure, they probably will but they have to assess it because its possible that a manufacturing defect meant it was predisposed to failure

Painful, how did it break in spite of the case?. But I think cracked lcd is not covered under warranty. You need to call up LG, they will first ask you to send the phone to inspect the condition and then give an estimate cost. So if you know how to do it its better you do it.
I'm no expert but that seems like a point of impact. You might've bumped into something (desk corner?) when it was in your pocket.
LG will want money, if they even are willing to fix it.

Don't put your stylus in backwards!!!

http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/25/9204589/galaxy-note-5-stylus-s-pen-flaw
I actually did this last night because I was bored and stupid and wanted to see if the s-pen would fit in backwards, and it got stuck. It took a fair bit of wiggling to get it back out, and now the pen detector won't see that the pen is there (no more screen-off memos). I'm headed to Verizon when they open here in an hour to see how they intend to fix this, because this is just a horrible design flaw. Since I'm sure I won't be the only one dumb enough to do this, I'll report back with how Verizon handles the situation.
Well, the good news is that it's going to be replaced. I specifically avoided mentioning that I had put the stylus in backwards and just told them that the pen detection was broken. They had no problem with providing a replacement, although the actual process I had to go through was terrible, but your mileage may vary; the whole region was out of stock on the 64GB version, so the store rep and I spent an hour on the phone with their customer service line before having a replacement sent. I also had to pay a 2nd down payment on the replacement phone, and then my original dp will be refunded once I send back my original phone (which I was seriously pissed about). If they have the phone in stock at the store, it'll be relatively painless to have replaced; if they have to go through the customer service line, expect a headache.

Glad things worked out for you. I wonder what would've happened if you told verizon the truth, lol.

I'm ashamed to say you're not the only one, I was at a conference and bored and did the same thing for some silly reason and it broke in the same way. I got it replaced also without telling them what'd happened. I'm ashamed. Glad I'm not alone though.
