[Q] Will there be any ports for our device? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What everyone is liking about the nexus is that it runs pure stock android with no bloatware.which I love as well but occasionally I tend to get bored and flash Roms like crazy. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think there was an lg u.i port on the nexus 4 not sure if it went through daily driver state but it was a port. Will the nexus 5 have a similar port ? Or are there any devs out there working on any porting of some sort?

I'd personally liked to see a sense 5 port

Sounds like a couple of budding devs. Why don't you learn how to port roms and make them

Lol figured someone would get butt hurt about it like always.xda used to be a place where people can come to for info..share ideas..post issues..ask for help..no wonder most devs now a days have there own website and stay away from xda. It was a simple question no need to be rude about it.if I wanted to learn how to port and make Roms I wouldn't be posting the question now would I?

I didn't mean to be rude. I was serious. There are a number of threads on xda on how to port roms. With some patience it's not that hard to do.

Most ports are partial or only partly working. People who end up with full ports are lucky. An inordinate amount of work and effort goes into porting full roms. Arguably more than most roms....and often the effort just isn't justified.
You may see the odd one two floating around. Theyre generally done by the person who ultimately wants it rather than by request so there will either be someone who wants to do it and try, or there wont
In regards to why many devs leave xda, its more out of frustration from the influx of non-searching, non-reading, "make my phone kewl" crowd we seem to be buried in.. when devs answer the same question on every page of their thread, its easier to start your own forum and ban all the idiots

CM7/AOSP/ICS Discussion Thread.

Hey there everyone.
I'm from the Vibrant section, and I have some questions for you Galaxy S 4G users, please do know I searched around, but I thought it'd be best to have all the information anyone had on this particular topic all in one thread, so if anyone feels this is useless, feel free to delete it, I'm just trying to gain some knowledge. My girlfriend has a GS4G, and although the devs have done a great job modding Samsung's ROMs.. they don't compare to AOSP ROMs in my opinion.
Now, for the questions.
1. Why is it we can't get a working kernel to boot for the GS4G? (Someone please do explain in detail.)
2. How far has someone gone/gotten? (I know krylon handed the work to someone, but I don't think they've reported back?)
And please, no stupid answers. This is pure discussion. If a kernel dev is what we need, I could try to find one that's willing to work with me, but we'd need testers and such.
From what I heard and read around, you guys don't have any devs thats capable of doing that.

We are already working on this now. Read through my kernel thread. I have specific milestones to getting cm7 on our phone. I will not skip steps to get to cm7 sooner, compromising stability and functionality. If you want to help, please pm me.

Yep, just checked your replies on Rootz Wiki, sorry, I didn't notice that earlier.
But like I said, this thread isn't meant to rush anyone or say someone can't do something, simply for discussion and information. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
For real this thread again!? I'm going to kill myself. Can't bear it.

Alright, flame me.. because I'm definitely doing something wrong. I'm in no way demanding an ETA or even demanding anyone to start working on this, I simply wanted to group the information anyone knows so we could help each other.. you know.. kind of what a community does?
Guys, being cynical and trolling won't get us anywhere, and tell you the truth, it's childish and starting to bore.
The guy said he wanted a technical status summary and specifically said he wants to help.
In this case, i think we do need to maintain a thread of work chords and specify the barriers.
I thank every new dev with a will to help.
I think he deserves a different attitude than a noob, especially if we don't want to scare all devs from here.
That's my opinion anyway.

It's ok. I've responded to a few of these threads. It's surprising how many people don't click 'search' and search for 'cm7' or 'cyanogenmod'. I also don't expect people to read both rootz and xda. So if you read my op on the kernel thread, I have a "Plans" section (on both forums!).

Starting threads like these without searching only causes trolling and thread thrash (a lot of useless threads in the forum that blur the current state).

We have great developers that work hard on cm. The sgs 4g is the problem of not having it, freaking sammy with their experiments. i really enjoy their masterpieces(devs). Op you just have to have some patience, cm will come to us i believe in our devs.

Then why didn't you group all the information that is already available in the 50 other threads about CM7 into this one?
if you really wanted to do that, you could have made your OP a summary with bullet points of the details of everything that was already discussed, and then updated it with new information that comes along.
did you even search at all??

First of all, this has never been my primary device. I have never owned this device. I used to own the Samsung Vibrant, now I own a Nexus S. My girlfriend owned a Galaxy S 4G, and was using her phone to try to bring something new to you guys. (First ICS theme for this device ring a bell?) It's not my job to group 50 other threads about CM7 into this one. That's not what a community is. I am in no way a recognized developer, I know my stuff, but I have a long way to go. But it's people like you that make devs want to leave and stop posting their stuff. You swear people have time to do everything. And indeed that was my intention, but I wasn't going to pull useless information from other threads that members have posted, that are often inaccurate. This thread was mostly meant for devs, that could actually help out, and working together.
In other news, I finally have some time to mess around with stuff, might look into more themes or something, but I lack a device to work on, so I guess if some people would like to help (testing, etc.) I'd be glad to push things out from time to time.

[Q] Galaxy s 4G ICS

Do you think we will ever have ICS on the galaxy s 4g? I mean we saw it on G1, and lots of unsupported phones, and on the galaxy s 1 which doesn't support ICS officially. What is the problem stopping the development ?

Threads like this.
Also, the other phones have like a billion and one kernel devs. Not to mention our phone is Sammy's black sheep, by that I mean this phone is way different from other sgs.
Lastly, we have at least 3 other ICS threads why not ask there?

Why does everybody get annoyed when a regular person just wants to know whats wrong out of curiosity? I don't want any ROM or anything I just wanted a technical answer. is the problem the source code being unreleased? will the company ever release it?
I wish I could help, I would really love to. Its like a dream or long term goal to be a dev, study programming languages etc... but that requires lots of time and I'm just waiting a bit as i'm not sure where to start.
I am sorry for any misunderstanding as I know Devs already have rough days and nights with developing and improving. I wasn't "Demanding" or "pushing" as i'm not that person. I am just seeking knowledge, and if the Q&A section isn't the right place to search for Knowledge then I don't know where is.
The problem isn't with you so much as it is with the million dollar question that's been asked and answered a million times....its the question all devs cringe over when they see it repeated time n time again.
Put yourself in their shoes for a minute.....they put out as much as they can with what they can and people keep popping up this same question like they just aren't happy with what they are getting
To answer your question, and anybody else that wants to ask,
It is being worked on. We cannot get ICS to boot due to coding and kernel issues. I semi successfully ported an ICS ROM, but due to all the mods and changes, it felt empty. So we went back to the drawing board and started over. Since we don't have source code, it makes things much more difficult. Be patient. And for the record, the first place to search for knowledge is Google. Fb is right though. We do need more help. The more people we have working on this, the better our chances are. Learn how to compile kernel and ROM from source. Learn scripting. And learn how to Google...

I do understand what you mean, and I already put myself in the dev's shoes and I really admire their work, all of it. But I went through all the threads regarding ICS, and sadly their aim is to push , demand and request stuff from devs as if devs don't have enough on their minds already, and that is really annoying and disrespectful. But not all people are like that. I don't have any requests( I have a Nexus S with ICS, SGS 4g CM7.2) I am just seeking knowledge.
I am really grateful for what each and every DEV offers as it is from their personal and free time. Sorry for any misunderstanding

What Thomas posted is true but the main reason we dont have a working ICS port is this statement above.
The op makes a good point, this is the Q&A section. Even tho there are many threads asking this same question most of them have ended up in bashing with nerf bats or a mod locking because of insults. Ive read the other threads, but most people will stop reading when the conversation turns sour. You might actually read the other posts but your mind shuts it down. So a informative post will slip in and you wont catch it.
The biggest problem with threads that ask this question is assumptions. When people stop assuming and start to understand the person asking the question things get resolved.

My observations being a noob in the Android world

Coming from being an iPhone fanboy, I was well aware of the snooty attitudes that are rampant over there. Now that I have a taste of the Android side, I have learned a few things, some the hard way, and one thing I've noticed is how the attitudes are much the same. I have met some cool people with some great ideas and skills, and there are even a few that will answer questions. I get that some get annoyed at the asking of the same questions over and over. However, as a Dev, you should be expecting this. As Android takes more and more market share, new people are coming into this (like me) and trying to learn as much as we can. Some want simple answers, some want more complicated ones. I did a lot of the research myself, watching videos, Google searches, etc. But some people don't know how to, or just aren't computer literate.
XDA is a GREAT resource for information. But like other sites, sometimes you have to word your searches just right or you get nothing close to what you are trying to find out. Not the site's fault, it's just the way search engines are. So a hoard of people head into the threads, asking questions, and mostly getting good answers, But, as I have trolled through, I notice a lot of attitudes coming from devs, or friends of devs as they attack people because they didn't have 4 hours to troll though 500 pages in a thread, reading each and every post. Hoping their question was asked and answered before. If that makes you angry, maybe you should just make your ROMs and share them with a few friends and call it a day. From what I can see, most of the ROMs are pretty much the same in a lot of respects. I know the difference between TW ROMs and AOSP ROMs. I did the homework. I learned the hard way by soft bricking my phone, and I researched and got myself out of that jam thanks to the videos and postings of some nice people. There are a lot of people that don't have the PC skills or the time to do that. And even more that have no idea about message boards and how they work. BTW, the term "flaming" someone is as irritating to me as those people that ask the same questions over and over are to you. This is almost 2013. Terms like that are the exact reason I hate having to use message boards. Not everyone is as knowledgeable as you are. It doesn't mean they are dumb, they just don't want to learn, or they don't have the time.
I guess I'm trying to say, if you are going to put yourself out there by developing a ROM for free, and then complain because someone asks you a question or bugs you because you haven't updated it, maybe you should just all start charging for the ROMs. I will go back to stock myself, but I'm sure there are a few that will pay to have a few extras a little ahead of time. Then your base will shrink, allowing you to breathe easier knowing you are getting paid for your time. Maybe then, you will have to be a little nicer, more customer friendly. If you don't think you are getting the recognition you deserve, then don't do it. I know many would miss the customization, but they would quickly forget about it and find something else to do. And by the way, I have never had an issue like this. I'm strictly speaking from an observers point of view. Matter of fact, I may start doing some reviews, that will include not only the ROM itself, but the developers attitude when it comes to helping people through their issues. I think people should have the right to know if they are going to get help or not when choosing a ROM or other custom feature.
In closing, a lot of questions could be answered if some threads were created and "stickied" that explain the basic functions and directions dealing with flashing ROMs. It seems a lot of the "bugs" people experience are actually explainable because they had no clue what a clean flash vs dirty flashing was. Or that if you had Nova on one ROM, then flashed another ROM and Nova auto installed along with your other apps, that you would have to uninstall Nova to avoid problems. Or that CM kernels are not compatible with TW kernels and if the new ROM you are flashing doesn't install a new kernel, your new ROM may not be compatible with the one left behind form the old. Stuff like that. Sorry for the long post. Again, I have had no problems with anyone on here, dev or not, I just have seen a lot of this happening. And a lot of the attitudes are from dumb little things. You wanted to make ROMs, we all didn't force you to. And if you stop, others will take your place. I have seen that recently too, as soon as the new Nexus hit, a ton of devs left the SGS3 in the dust. But a few new guys showed up and have done a great job with their stuff. Congrats to them, I have found a good stable ROM because of this, and have received great support from this guy. He also regularly updates and interacts with the people taking the time to possibly brick their device to load his ROM. I hope more of those people show up in the future. Those are the people I will keep following and being patient with.
Most people usually help out, some don't. I just have a problem with developers thinking their **** don't stink as you'll learn if you venture out of this forum.
This thread is kinda out of line. Devs deliver us ROMs for free, who's to say what's expected and what's not? The only thing XDA requires devs to do is make their process or code open source, that's it. Devs aren't customer service reps, nor do they have to answer questions and play nice. They are doing us a favor by releasing the latest and the greatest bottom line. If your going to run a ROM, you should read the entire thread because there may be things you have to do, and if it weren't for people asking the same question over and over, threads would be half as long. If you dont have the time or the patience to do the research, you shouldn't be modding your device to begin with.

Yes, that does seem to be an issue. I notice too that the Original Android Devs are a little more snooty than the TW devs. Just my observation.
Do you honestly blame them? If they are going to spend hours and hours of their time coding, learning, and releasing ROMs for you, for free, and on top of it have you spend 10 mins maybe searching for an answer and then bothering them? I honestly don't blame them.
I've spent hours breaking things just to figure out how they work. Flashing things over and over and over again.
I wouldn't want to do that for hours on end, to have someone spend 10 mins, give up, and cry to me for help, then get mad when I didn't hand them the answer.

You're right, they do deliver them for free. But people are trusting them and risking bricking a very expensive device to try their ROM and push their ROMs on other people. They willingly put themselves out there. We all could buy and use phones without customizing them. I'm just saying they act a little too fancy sometimes. Not all of them. Just a few.
Why is this out of line? I posted this in the general section. If I would have posted it anywhere else you would have said it should be in the General forum. See, you made one of my points for me. And last time I checked, I can say whatever I want. If the forum wants to cut it, fine. I'll deal with it on my outlet. No big deal.
Not going to lie, I think Android fanboys are worse than Apple fanboys from what I've seen. I was on a YouTube channel where a woman was talking about how she got an iPhone after selling her Galaxy Nexus and the comments were, "Go kill yourself iwhore", "Traitor sheep", "iSlut", Dumb bimbo etc. The most I see on Mac rumors are "poorphone" or no apps, or cheap looking. Whereas here, if you say iPhone you'll have a ton of people start calling you a sheep. I don't know, I think its incredible how ignorant some people are. Some people just like other things.
Galaxy SIII/Soon to be Note 2 owner once it comes in ftw.
Oh as an edit. That Instagram thing was awful a few months back when Android got instagram. iOS users were saying, "Oh now we get to see what poor people do" Terrible. Simply terrible.

I doubt people are giving up in 10 minutes and running for the forums. Most people don't want to risk any of this to possibly ruin their expensive phones. The point is, they put themselves out there and make themselves available on the forums. If they don't want to deal with noobs (which every one of you was at one time or another) then throw up a ROM on some site and leave it. I'm not blaming anyone for anything. I figured out a lot on my own too. I have asked very few questions of anyone. But there are a lot of people that don't have the time or knowledge to find all this out on their own. If they are being asked the same question over and over, maybe put those answers in the OP to begin with. I have seen quite a few ROMs posted with very little info in the OPs. They aer banking on everyone knowing what they are doing right off the bat.
And lets really clear some things up. Some of these "Devs" aren't really developing anything. They have the time and/or patience and utilize the kitchen to strip down a stock rom. They throw in some mods that real devs made and slap their name on it. Then ask for donations like they just did something incredible. I've tried just about every modified stock rom on xda and there was really no difference. And God forbid someone has anything negative to say about a rom.
And in regards to the aosp devs, if they dont want to be asked questions or don't want their work criticized they shouldn't be making roms for the public. This forum is filled with smart asses that think everyone should know what they know. Everyone at one point had to ask someone else for help because how else do you learn.

And in regards to the aosp devs, if they dont want to be asked questions or don't want their work criticized they shouldn't be making roms for the public. That is why they are guides and info posted in op if bugs and such?
I sure did not post here when I was rooting oh I need some help with adb fastboot Odin what's the problem there are plenty of guides that cover everything
People just tend to give up so easily; that's how lazy the generation has become. Those guides posted helped me out and such. I didn't ask someone else for helped I did this on my own with a guide up on here now I know more than just rudimentary things of the android world I help people out but still gets annoying when you have 5 if the same threads I mean if I could find them why can't they? It's really not that hard.

As someone buying a G1 and not even knowing what rooting was, I have no sympathy for the winers. I soft bricked, got almost no sleep reading up on recovering it, and I never once posted a question. Now I'm flashing/recovering/restoring any device I want.
The devs spend countless hours working on making roms and apps for us, the least you could do is research (hours if necessary) before asking the same questions that have been answered previously. If you can't handle common sense tasks then a) don't root or flash b) stay with your iPhone
Not trying to rip anyone, but this is a pointless thread Imo.

Endorsed.
Replace G1 with D1 and that's my story. I googled. I bricked. I bricked a lot. And I read. End of story.
You make it seem like phone tinkering and flashing are a right, a service if you will. It's not. This is a site for phone geeks to share their work. You should be grateful it's not a paid service. Why fix something that's not broken? If you don't like the way it is, you have plenty of options out there. You are complaining about forums in general - it's not limited to xda.
For the record, your post was pretty good until the last paragraph. Didn't agree with that one, however - that's Ok. Your opinion. Just like this is mine...

I do have to add though that out of like the 15 touchwiz stock ROMs out there, most of them are the same. And personally I think dev's should accept and take in whatever criticism they get for their ROM. As constructive criticism, so they can make their ROM better.
If they have no desire to make it better, then they should outright say their will only be one release. If they feel someone is being disrespectful, they should be the better person and tell them politely to not be so disrespectful. Just my opinion, and yes I am grateful for all the devs do here.

Constructive criticism is fine. What's annoying (even from a non-dev perspective) is the same question getting asked over and over again. Sometimes a dead horse is kicked up for 4-5 pages. Then once it finally dies down, some dude asks the same question. It's silly and unnecessary. If they Google their question followed by ", xda" they would have found the original answer.

First, I have no problems with XDA. That wasn;t the intention. XDA provides a great service to people who want to customize their phone AND devs that want to put their work out there.
Second, if you feel like this thread is useless, why are you spending the time to respond?
Third, the statement I made wasn't a slam on anyone. I am well aware of people that are too lazy to search things out for themselves. The point I was making, is we need each other. If we refuse to tinker with our phones, the devs are essentially doing this for themselves and a few friends that want to join in. If they aren't creating ROMs, we don't have a way to customize our phones. However, we can get along without each other too. I know if the ROMs weren't there, I would still enjoy the use of my smartphone. If we weren't downloading, devs would still tinker with building ROMs. The whole issue is how we treat each other on ANY forum. If you are getting asked the same questions over and over, maybe a the first post should be updated with those Q&A's. I have seen very few OPs do that. In fact, a majority of the AOSP threads have nothing at all posted regarding issues or potential problems. They just expect everyone to know everything. Everybody learned from somebody else. Whether it was through Google search, this forum or YouTube videos. MOST of the people complaining about the same questions being asked have very little info on their thread.
Again, props to those devs that don't mind helping people out. And props to XDA for providing the forum. The rest should put up pay sites maybe, but their ROM downloads would quickly fall. I have enjoyed my experience thus far tinkering around with something new. But the few in the community that whine about people asking questions should settle down and realize how you act. That goes for the "customer" that can't ask nicely too. I'm not anti-dev. I get what they do is tough and time consuming.

We spend time to respond to actually have you realize no one is gna be here all the time for you some things you have to be done by themselves, I'm 16 I wonder when you'll realize that. No one is gna be up your ass changing your clothes for you either learn the hard way or just not at all.
I have seen multiple threads of people complaining that their data is gone on cm10.1 and not one has bothered to even look at the op's post clearly showing the way to fix it. They just want the easy way out to ask and have someone redirect them there and I have but it gets tiring doing it over and over and over again.

Despite me being new to XDA I am not new to the process of rooting android phones. I have been rooting other people's phones before I bought the Galaxy S 3. I don't ask questions in forums I research my own answers to my questions. I noticed the same things as the person who started this thread I just don't see the point in bringing it up as it will continue to happen.
Unlike all the badass geniuses in here I have asked questions since I got my first smartphone less than a month ago.
I think it's pretty stupid how people think they're so cool because they figured out how to root, there are so many details in rooting/flashing ROMs and kernels and these high end smart phones are very expensive especially now because of the **** economy, people just don't want to brick they're phones they invested so much in.
People aren't supposed to know all the bugs in a new ROM they flashed and you guys are giving this "issue" too much priority.

Mix/Matching Roms

I was going to post in the rookie thread in Development, but decided that my question was most likely better off in here.
I have been running beanstalk, and while I like it to me it isn't pac man.
I'm curious, there are some small things that I would like to maybe make part of PAC but I don't know how difficult it would be.
I would like to steal one of the battery mods that is in beanstalk. Would there be an easy way?
I would also like to find a way to add transparant notification drawer. Would there be an easy way?
I obviously don't want to ask a DEV to change what they like in there rom that they are porting/creating, but I also do not believe I have enough capability to build my own rom.
Any assistance/information you can give would be greatly appreciated.

This mentality here is unacceptable your on a development forum if you feel you lack the capability you've already given up by selling yourself short. I'm tired of people saying I can't learn or I don't have time because it's garbage. Most of the guys doing this have families, jobs, issues, and lives like everyone else and they still make time.
As for the icons it would require you to replace them with a swap since you won't be able to add them to the menus so start with framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk see if you can find the ones you want.

This mentality of everyone is able to do something is simply incorrect. A paralyzed person from the hips down is not going to be able to run under his own power. And the fact that I didn't post this in the DEV section still merits me an ambush. This whole I'm "entitled" mentality to say something because I have done something before on this forum is hilarious. I'm glad that you can make time for it I get too frustrated, and you want to go ahead and look at what the OP of the project rookie thread states? Sorry for doing research before I delved into something I wasn't sure about.
PS Thanks for the information that was ACTUALLY given

So its OK to just dismiss things because you get frustrated anything people want to get good at takes time and effort. The battery stuff has been talked about before so I'm assuming your search was not very thorough but my point was don't sell yourself short and give up before you even try. Also determined people find something they can do if they are paralyzed from the waist down they may never run but could still do tons of great things. You see the glass half empty I see it half full.

You need to post these questions to the rookie thread ... of course, after you have searched.
What you are asking has been answered in this massive place called XDA many times. In fact, I even posted a specific tutorial on how to modify SystemUI.apk for battery mods months ago. I just searched ... and guess what? It's still here ...
Based on the questions you're asking, it is clear that you haven't done any research or leg work on your end. I'm not trying to flame you, just letting you know how other people see this thread.
Nobody is going to handhold you through something if you haven't at least tried to figure it out on your own first. When you get stuck with specific questions because something isn't working, or you have an error in your builds, go to the Rookie Thread first. We are willing to help anyone get going, but not if you aren't willing to put in the effort.
Good luck!

End of custom roms.......

Sorry guys.... As another dev shuts up shop due to users/noobs that don't read opening posts or explain the bugs they having.
Custom roms will soon be a thing of the pass.
I for one knows how much time/effort goes into making a rom. It's no easy task. The amount of flashing/bricking to bring roms to us.
All the roms on xda are free but if this continues then devs may start charging for their roms (maybe not on xda but who knows) Wouldn't blame them really though.
All users need to understand if we don't have devs on Android. Then basically we will end up like iPhone users that are locked down. We should be grateful for all devs that brings us root without it then no custom roms would exist.
Do the Android community wanna end up like iPhone? I doubt it very much.
Respect the devs
Read the first post, search the thread! All answers are there. This excuse "I searched but couldn't find anything" is BS basically.
We will lose them all eventually.
Rant over.

Post of the month!
ETA:
As much as I agree, this is flogging a dead horse
Until you can change the impatient 'fix it now, I refuse to read the first post post anyway, that bits not important' mentality of the average user, nothing will change
I agree. most users in this community are selfish. most likely they demand fix this please, when's the next update, port it please, comparing their work to another's hard work, flaming and so on.
they neither try to read back the thread or use the search function. or has no clue with the forum rules. it's a sad thing but yeah it's here. it's really a sad thing but there's nothing we can do unless they learn to respect the free work devs have put into their work. people should realize devs are doing it on their spare time on their own will to share to people for users to enjoy for free.
Agree
I was hoping to find a thread like this and I totally agree with you.
But maybe that is not the end cause I think that the devs will still love what they do just that they try not to address certain people.
As great as the idea of XDA is and as much as I'm happy that this awesome forum exists..I think that it should be talked/discussed about the forum rules!!!
Example:
How can it be possible that you become senior member with 100 posts?
This leads to flaming in some cases and is no way near related on how helpful you are
The process in being allowed to post
While some are annoyed that they can't discuss right after logging the first time....for others it is way to simple to join and flame.
Rules enforcement
We all know that some posts we make are not related to the devices...and I think that this shouldn't be seen as an issue in general...XDA to me is also a communication page as long as the dev doesn't have a problem with it... BUT being disrespectful to the work you receive for free and claiming bugs where there are reported to be none and most important refusing to read should be looked after more often.
At last I really don't want to criticize XDA or what it stands for cause I still love it... I just hope it stays what it was created for and won't loose the devs which are doing so many awesome things for us because some people just can't follow the rules and be thankful for what they get
Maybe some new rules when people sign up?like private reference or something?but then again that would drop Ads revenue of this site drasticly
Unfortunately it's fact that most of the users are never happy enough with the things they get FOR FREE. They don't see the hard work of the devs behind a custom ROM. They only see what they have on their phones, and if there's something they don't like, they complain and blame the dev. And the fact that many users don't read instructions or simple informations gives the devs more work. They have to watch their thread 24 hours a day and always be friendly and helpful. If that's not given, some users become rude. My favorite thread was closed this morning because of such stupidity. The dev pulls his heart and soul in his project and gets more negative than positive feedback. That's not fair.
@4aces: you know what thread I'm talking about, i think you agree, it's a sad sad day for us.
Exactly @speedwayfan75 that why I had to voice my rant over that thread. And @DSA same for your thread too shut due to some users. Black box was great used on s3 then got discontinued on s4

In my opinion it's also the fault of XDA in general.
Just take a look in the Q&A section. So many question that have been anwsered before, so many people that just won't read.
In my opinion every thread that doesn't have a decent opening post should be closed untill they put some effort in it. But the more users XDA gets, the more money they make. So the skill level will only keep lowering and then some other decent website opens and replaces XDA.
Users just get to much space to do anything they want. I'm not blaming the mods in any way, because I think they are doing a good job. People higher up the ladder should take action or XDA will go down true their own succes.
I agree that there are many noob who do not read the post before replying.
But every boby was a noob before no?
just give them a chance to become good Android users...
PS: sorry for my english, i'am french !
You can't stop anyone from posting questions without searching first, or asking for OTAs. The only thing the devs can do is to ignore these people.

Its not as simple as that
If I create a development thread and include all relevant info in the first post, which is then populated with nothing but questions that are answered in the first post it makes it incredibly hard to find any proper posts which could contribute to the rom or for me to help a genuine user having issues
I created a specific q&a thread for these types of posts and everyone ignored it and filled up my dev thread instead
XDA has a chronic problem with users atm, I can't explain it or understand it, but I'm seeing more and more devs close their threads because of the users populating it
Have a read of the gravitybox thread in the xposed section...its unbelievable..
ETA: just had a read of the echorom thread...check @friedrich420 last posts in there..I feel for him as I know exactly how he feels
Users should be understanding about this. I think XDA should double the number of moderators so that useless posts are deleted on regular basis. For developers; they should create a third post on their ROM topic, that has a big list of all FAQs in bold.

I agree. I'm not sure if Devs will start charging, to be honest I'd probably pay, But anyways.... I work in Service Management for a Global IT company, and this behaviour is pretty standard when you are dealing with this many users..
I for one respond ONCE and the ignore users that make demands or unreasonable requests or are just plain offensive or rude.
What makes it worse though is the number of more experienced users that actually reply to these people in the thread. Honestly is some threads they have doubled the useless post count! Now, before I get flamed, I have done it myself because its just plain RUDE!!! But it doesn't take every 'good' user to flame back or stick up for the dev or say not to ask for ETAs! Just once will do and then ignore them!
If you ask any service professional or SixSigma bod, they will say 'focus on the good users and ignore the bad'.
Please please though reading multiple posts from good users responding to bad users is just as annoying as having to read the original bad post.
Peace Out People!

I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I know if anyone can understand is you my man!! I create a basic custom rom at best (and kernels lately). You create the most awesome rom i have ever used!! Way way over my head!! And you get the same treatment?? Its really not worth it!! People (im not generalizing because there are some EXCEPTIONAL USERS who deserve recognition) dont get (or dont want to get) what it takes to create a masterpiece like yours for example...
Thank you and my wish is that we will see you back!!
But one thing is for sure, something has to change...
It seems that people value something only if they have to pay for it... Im not say this should happen here but something that protects us (the creators/ providers of roms. kernels, recoveries, mods, apps etc etc) for the **** we get should be put in place... Some kind of mechanism that protects spamming and protects flaming... Something with more success than the current measures we have in place now...
Also THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT and opening this thread is a good thing!!
It needs to stay up and we need to make it into a "brainstorming pool" of ways to make sure devs who do this for free (therefore they do it because they love sharing) are protected...
How to stop stupid questions?
Firstly if devs want to be paid then good for them. Whatever they get it wont be enough. This might leave some users feeling empowered though - they would feel they were owed answers as they had paid "where is my promised bug fix you lazy asshole!". And we don't want that. So how about a testers thread for each ROM were the dev controls who can post and a general thread for each ROM were you have to pay to post ($0.20). It would encourage only real questions after peole have searched.
