I don't know why I am sharing this here.
I have just listed my G2x on Amazon and Craigslist.
This phone continues to drop the signal. I am getting calls dropped (is there ANYTHING more annoying than dropping a call - especially when it is an important one?!), signal lost and everything that comes along with it.
NOTHING (nothing!) should overshadow this issue with the phone! Not dual-core, 8MB cam, ICS or battary life.
What isn't clear to me is WHY others are accepting this.
Perhaps though, this is is the reason that the G2x (despite being a phenomenal phone on paper) barely sells online and is hard to sell in general.
Perhaps we (the people who even care enough to join forums and so on), represent the minority.
Goodbye G2x!

Dropped calls has nothing to do with the phone. Its your service. Good riddance.

what do you mean it's my service? I am using TMobile. Before this I had the Vibrant - never dropped calls at my house. Now it's happening all the time.
I'm on T-Mobile and have maybe 4 dropped calls since April.

Probably because it isn't as widespread a problem as you're thinking it is. I'm on T-Mobile as well and my G2X gets great signal and call quality.
Not saying it's not a real issue for you, just saying its probably not a widespread issue for the majority of G2X users or I'm sure there'd be about 30 threads about it, all created within about a day of each other and all saying the same thing.

Get a replacement from T-Mobile or get a loaner of another make/model of phone for T-Mobile and test its connectivity. If you know of any other T-Mobile customers with the same phone and/or a different phone, phone the same numbers from the same location and see what happens.

The baseband controls the phones wireless radios. Go to Settings > About Phone > Baseband version, should say MARCH or JULY somewhere in there.

Then post the Baseband Version
EDIT: Too late haha
Sorry to here about your problems anyway, never experienced any of them thankfully

Yeah, the July one is the better one. I would suggest a replacement phone and/or a new SIM card. I have never had a dropped call on my G2x, so it must be a bad phone or SIM card.

I never knew it could be a SIM issue. I WILL CHECK THAT OUT !!!! Going to the TMobile store right now!
Will update.
Thank you all
IT WAS THE SIM CARD INDEED !!!!!
Part of the reason I posted this here, is because I knew the good people of XDA will start a brainstorming discussion.
My other SIM card was very bad looking, and it is now changed to a NEW one. The TMobile representative said that I MUST change my sim card when she saw it.
I AM VERY HAPPY I posted my situation here!!!
No lost calls (did a 20 min call to test it) for now - but obviously will check on that more to confirm
THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR HELP
(and thank you not for the guy that decided to send me a message saying "U think we care"?!)
Nice to hear that. Despite the other issues with g2x, I never had dropped calls. Speaker could be better but for calls, phone is reliable.
Another happy g2x
thank you!!!
UPDATE: The dropping of call continues! Just drop a call 5 times (!!!) within an hour. This morning as well.
Thanks

1. Are you running the stock firmware?
2. Has this issue continued from the time you purchased the phone up until now.
3. Does the issue appear to be location specific? The reason I ask is because you stated it was working after the SIM was replaced then come back 24 hours later saying you had problems again.
4. Have you tried contacting T-Mobile customer support? They most likely won't be able to solve your issue if it is a problem with your handset (beyond trying a SIM swap, they will have you try your SIM in another known working handset typically, to isolate your device) but they will be able to rule out issues with your account, the network, etc.
Once again Verizon pulls another dousche bag move... As I posted earlier in a thread; I spoke to a Verizon representative about the infamous popping and squealing noise occurring during my phone calls... he spoke to me for approximately 2 minutes, diagnosed the problem as a speaker/ hardware issue, confirmed my shipping address and told me that they were replacing my Droid charge with the Samsung galaxy nexus. I might add that I upgraded my shipping to overnight as soon as he told me this, lol. Anyways... around 9:00 pm this evening I received a call from a different Verizon Rep. Saying that there was a misunderstanding with the warranty exchange and that they would be sending a refurbished Droid charge my way... wtf!!! Lol.. I do looooove my charge but I was so excited that I almost had a nexus... [email protected]#.... sh*%... pi$$... bal$#... Verizon never ceases to amaze me... hahahhaha

You might not get a nexus but you can talk them into a Rezound. Way better IMO
I called into VZW last night trying to get a Nexus replacement myself. I've dealt with the squealing/chirping/popping for months now. It hasn't been a big problem, since I mainly use bluetooth, where it hadn't been happening. Well, lately it's starting to happen via bluetooth also. So that (and the phone constantly thinking it's in a car dock) put me at the end of my rope.
Call in, get the rep, talk for a bit... get offered a warranty replacement Charge. I continue to complain, citing the many stories offered here and on other sites about people getting 5, 6, or more replacement Charges with the same problem. I'm offered an LG Spectrum. They wouldn't budge, saying they were doing me a favor, since they don't offer different models until after the second replacement. "Luckily", my SIM card replacement apparently counts as my first. So, I'm now waiting for my "new" Charge, which should arrive Friday. Once I get that all set up, I guess I'll give it a few days for the inevitable screeching to happen, and then be back on the phone with Verizon.
I don't understand why they would offer me a Spectrum (faster stock CPU, better camera, etc), but not a Nexus. Really, the only pluses (on paper) for the Nexus are a better screen and better software.
What's the best way to get a replacement? Is there a special department or is it just customer service?
Just got off the phone with Tier 2 support. Sending me a free replacement Nexus but I did have to pay $45 for the back and battery, but not a bad replacement for the Charge. Plan on going with the GSIII in March when I am due for an update. I will miss the Charge, it was a great phone, but look forward to not hearing the annoying popping and cracking sounds while on phone calls.
Last night I went through the repair/tech center for the screech/pop on voice phone calls (then found this thread and a few others).
VZW is shipping a refurb D. Charge, which I should have tomorrow. Can't say I'm excited to be getting refurb hardware, but I do understand VZW's need to operate a business, and handing out inventory that they can easily sell for top dollar (i.e. Nexus) is understandable. As opposed to providing refurb hardware, which is what the warranty covers.
I will state, that I won't go 10 months enduring issue swith an EOL phone like I just did, so here's to hoping the refurb works properly, or I'll be on the horn quickly this time.

I'm in the same boat. I got in a short Twitter discussion with VZWSupport this morning (apparently they scraped one of my tweets where I mentioned VZW). They're "confident" that the replacement will fix my problem. After the stories I've read here (and androidforums.com, droidcharge.net, etc, etc), I'm not as confident as they are.

You need to tell them that you want to speak to Tier 2. Then say it is a known software issue and not a hardware issue as the last FP1 firmware should have resolved the issue. Then tell them you do not want a refurb and if you do get one and it has the same issue, you will have a very angry customer on your hands. Don't be an ass though, but be firm. That is what I did when I called them. They also got Samsung on the line who was not aware of any issues with the Charge. Go figure....
So i called Verizon back last night after work, i spoke with a different manager from a different branch ( previous branch was greenville, SC ) i explained the whole story of what was happening and that i was not impressed with the way my warranty exchange went through... He then politely apologized for my inconvenience but told me since my refurbished charge is on its way that there is nothing he could do unless i get the phone and Im having similar issues again... Well i let him know how pissed i was.. Then hung up on him.. Lol. Needless to say, ill be calling them the day i get my refurbished charge to get another phone, idc if i have the issue or not, Im bound and determined for that nexus.. Hahahah

People are *****ing about the Nexus too (screen scratches easily, poor battery life, spotty/fluctuating signal, etc). Why are you so determined to get that phone?
I searched through the Q&A about the S3 GPS, and I couldn't find a similar case to this. Hopefully it's out there.
My job involves a lot of driving, and I use my GPS for literally everything because most of the places are pretty far out there. I've used a Motorola Droid X and an HTC Incredible perfectly for this. The GPS would lock and maintain a signal, and get me there with no problem.
On my Verizon S3, I have an odd issue. It'll take much longer to lock in, and when it finally does, it seems to just freeze up after a few minutes. It'll be stuck on the same remaining time, the cursor will be on the same point in the road despite having passed it, and the distance to the next turn won't update. A little bit afterwards, it'll say signal lost and try searching for the GPS again.
I tried turning power saver off, checking the location services on and off, and yes, I turned it off and back on.
I thought it was an issue due to a preemptive rooting of my phone, so I came home early today and reinstalled the stock ROM. I tried the GPS again, and it had the same exact issue despite not being rooted this time.
Is there any fixes out there, or tutorials, or something that could be causing this? Thanks. Will click the thanks button the video beat over my head.
If it is doing it consistently take it back and do an exchange. I have sold two Galaxy S 3s on Sprint and was able to get a lock in a building pretty quick. I have the Galaxy S 2 and my first one had similar GPS issues. I just did a warrenty replacement for it not charging and GPS on this new Galaxy S 2 is great.

Alright, I appreciate the quick help. My dad is currently remaining vigilant in his demand to go through tech support first, so he's working on that. If that fails, I'll definitely try getting another Galaxy. Hopefully I can actually find one.
Maybe they WILL fix it, who knows! Probably not, though.
Question is still open if anyone has any ideas.

Oh christ. Dad just finished with the tech support. They literally just told him to check the location settings to see if everything was checked(which it was when the problem was occurring). Even took it for another test drive and the same problem.
This really does suck sort of, I love the phone but GPS is essential. I hope I can just replace it.
If they give you a hard time return it and go somewhere else to buy it. You have 14 days to return it without breaking contract. Go into the store and see how their display model works.

I had similar problem and just went to Verizon store today for it. The "technical specialist" had ZERO clue. He didn't even know where the location settings are. Anyway, after I showed him the problem in the store he ordered a replacement for me. Didn't even challenge me about trying to use it indoor, or having the WiFi turned off etc. I also tried the demo units they had in store and they all locked instantaneously.
It was pretty easy and I'm glad it's over. I've spent hours trying to figure out whether I'm crazy or the phone is crazy.
Good luck.

At one point of my testing I turned on VZW location service in location setting and it locked immediately. I was out in the open. I then tried toggling it multiple time, before and after rebooting the phone. It never helped again. I'm guessing in a normal situation it could help locking but it does fix my defective GPS.

He passed it on to the engineers and said he would call me back this weekend to check up. The only problem is where I am now I have to use my work cell phone since I get a bad Tmo reception. He said everything that he could see looked fine. If it's widespread more people should call in to hopefully get it resolved.

Its prolly hd voice as mentioned where you are used to crappy voice and now you have better fidelity.

That is unless it's not working right.
HD voice 2 months ago sounded like this for us in Hawaii, T-mobile CEO John.. after 1 week it was fixed
I could definitely hear the difference when I got my N5. It's only with other T-mobile user. It must be the HD Voice deal from T-mo. I think it sounds fantastic. Seems to be really clear and much better than normal calls. Normal calls sound just fine, but the Tmo to Tmo calls are great.

Is there any icon that is located on the screen when HD voice is activated? I have researched HD voice and it seems like on other phones there would be something on the call screen that let them know it's on. I haven't noticed anything on the N5.

Yeah, I am not a fan of HD voice on my Nexus 5. I notice it when I talk to my wife and I have to turn the volume way down. It's like the treble is set way too high so the "S" sound especially is way overblown. Not sure if this is the same issue or not but I thought my phone was defective until I did more searching. I wish we could turn it off easily.
So i got the camera failed error, which freaked me out due to the Verizon issues, but a restart fixed it. Anyone else have this happen?

My first S5 the camera completely died. Sprint Corp store couldn't fix it and replaced it on the spot. I'm now noticing on the replacement, when starting the camera app the camera is black for maybe 2 to 3 seconds then the view appears.
Kinda worried about the replacement also.
Sprint will replace your phone with no questions. Apparently this is a major fsck up on Samsung's part and Sprint is replacing them.

Correct! And you can download an app on the play store to make sure that you got a completely new device and not a refurbished/used device!

The black screen for 2-3 seconds happens on my S5 occasionally.
I have a little rattle from what sounds like the camera on my S5 if you shake the phone a bit. When you go into the camera app, then try to rattle the phone, the rattle stops and won't make a noise. That's real strange to me, but did either of you experience this on your camera prior to failure? Also is the 2-3 second black screen enough to get a new phone? Final question, I don't have TEP, I assume they're replacing the phone for anyone with this failure with or without TEP?

Well, I got the camera failed message this afternoon. Went by a Sprint store and they swapped it out even without TEP. Although they had to order me one and said it would be there in 3-5 days. I confirmed it was new and not refurbished, but we will see when it arrives. Is this common practice that they can't just give me one out of their stock? This store is the authorized repair facility for Sprint and do full Sprint business but a 3rd party company. So I thought that might have something to do with it.

The camera rattle is normal. It's the sensor
Did your camera start to work again after a reboot?

It did start to work again and has worked since. I'm still going to swap it out when the other comes in, without tep, I'm not going to chance it further.

If the Sprint repair facility near me has S5's in stock but they want to order mine and tell me there's a 3 to 5 day wait I would be pissed.
Why can't they give you one from their stock? 3rd party vendor may have something to do with it. Still BS in my eyes.
My replacement has so many issues. The blackness lag when starting up the camera, LTE dropping like mad, always a low LTE signal, speakerphone is useless. People call me but there is no log of it in the dialer app, yet the voicemail timestamp is there. The phone doesn't even ring.
I think I am going to get this replaced one last time and give the replacement to my wife and either get the iphone 6 or the new LG.

Why exchange it then? It could have just been software related.
On Verizon, it was hardware related and a reboot didn't do anything

Well, I may not exchange it. Depends if they hand me a whole new box with charger, headphones, etc. Then I might as well.

Thats wishful thinking my friend but that would be nice.. In my experiences and I have exchanged several devices over the years with Sprint they call you back several days later you go in and it will be a device for device swap you hand them your broken/defective one they activate and hand you replacement.. Still not bad if yours is broken but no extra freebies unfortunately..

No app needed.
Dial ##786# then view. Scroll down. It'll say if it's refurbished or not.

Yes, that was a joke. I'm still replacing it as I don't want that to come back again. I don't have tep so now's my chance if it happens again, I may be sol. Fortunately, found a friend of a friend that works at this store. He's verified it should be new. So there's not much to lose with swapping, except my time rebuilding all my stuffs. Plus, I'm heading out on vacation soon and need this camera to function.

Picked up my device today. It came in a white long box that said RECxxxxx on it, BUT there is no recondition date listed in the ##786# menu. Everything appears brand new on it and it functions well, so its new despite the box.
I just had this happen to me again. Starting to get worried

Happened a third time. The google camera still works after stock camera fails so it seems more like a software issue with the stock camera app
Going to try a camera data reset to see if that helps.

Wow, starting to wonder if any of that is related to the camera issues we're seeing on AOSP side.
Can someone dump a log for me and send it? Would like to look..

That's pretty common with Galaxy phones.
Btw, if it happens again, take it to a sprint store. It's an actual known issue in their eTicket system(repair system they use), so they will issue you a replacement device for free.
