[Q] Sounds Like I'm in a Tunnel (Tmo to Tmo) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This only seems to happen when I'm on a call with my fiance. We both have T-mobile and when we talk to each other it sounds like we are in a tunnel. It doesn't happen any other time it just seems like a T-mobile to T-mobile call. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm experiencing this as well.

I'm on the phone with a Tmo representative right now. I'd give them a call as well to see what's going on. I've had this issues since switching to Tmo last month.

Any update? As to what's causing this.

He passed it on to the engineers and said he would call me back this weekend to check up. The only problem is where I am now I have to use my work cell phone since I get a bad Tmo reception. He said everything that he could see looked fine. If it's widespread more people should call in to hopefully get it resolved.

I believe is that HD voice service. I notice it right away when my wife and I got our N5's.

Really?? It doesn't sound very clear. It sounds very airy.

Its prolly hd voice as mentioned where you are used to crappy voice and now you have better fidelity.
http://how-to.t-mobile.com/callquality/
That is unless it's not working right.

HD voice 2 months ago sounded like this for us in Hawaii, T-mobile CEO John.. after 1 week it was fixed

I could definitely hear the difference when I got my N5. It's only with other T-mobile user. It must be the HD Voice deal from T-mo. I think it sounds fantastic. Seems to be really clear and much better than normal calls. Normal calls sound just fine, but the Tmo to Tmo calls are great.

Is there any icon that is located on the screen when HD voice is activated? I have researched HD voice and it seems like on other phones there would be something on the call screen that let them know it's on. I haven't noticed anything on the N5.

I just got phone and its happened on every call. Its annoying. I can only make out every few words and they hear tunneling or echo sounds.

Yeah, I am not a fan of HD voice on my Nexus 5. I notice it when I talk to my wife and I have to turn the volume way down. It's like the treble is set way too high so the "S" sound especially is way overblown. Not sure if this is the same issue or not but I thought my phone was defective until I did more searching. I wish we could turn it off easily.

Ugh. Headaches.

Hello. This post is going to be semi rant semi help needed. I'm going to list the issues on my infuse. Feedback whether or not you have the same issues or a way to fix would be great. I'm getting pretty irritated with this phone though. Here we go!
Apps crash way more than they should. Browser, camera, music player, Facebook. Just random.
When receiving phone call, it just vibrates. Trust me, the volume is up all of the way. I go to change ringtone and that doesn't even make a sound. I have to reboot for my sound to work. Very frustrating.
Call quality. Jeeeeeesus Christ. I have never had a phone where the other person constantly says "what? I can't hear you?" Or "why does it sound like you're a mile away from your phone?" Or "take me off speaker phone!" I ASSURE YOU the phone is on my face, mic by my mouth, and outside where I have full bars.
And now as of today, I tried to show videos I took at warped tour 2 days ago and get the error "cannot view video" I literally took the video myself with the phone. Watched it before. But now I can't.
Smh.....
Stock rom, I am rooted but these have been on going before I decided to root.
Like I said in the beginning. This is a rant/cry for help.
If anyone is having the same issues or knows a fix, reply?
Thanks for reading

I bought a massage on craigslist and it was the worst massage ever. The chick wasn't even hot!!! I was going to ask for a refund, but she didn't give me a receipt and her pimp required a receipt for any refunds.

I used to have call quality problems but i fixed it. It can be fixed if you disable the samsung noise reduction, just press the menu key during a call

I haven't noticed any of the issues you seem to be having.
Call quality seems good, (at least nobody has said anything negative about it). Phone volume works as it should, apps don't crash any more than normal.
You definitely have a dud, you may just have to go through the Samsung Warranty.. their service is excellent. They don't ask many questions, they simply email you a UPS shipping label, you ship the phone back to them, then in a few weeks, you get it back.
Samsung Customer Support is really quite good(at least in my experience.)
It also sounds like your "stock" in that you have no clue what was done to your phone before it got in your hands. I'd try flashing a ROM (infused is my favorite), and deleting all the data to have a fresh install. May help
I've had the same call quality issues. I just posted a week or two ago with the same frustrations. Multiple people would tell me that I wasn't talking in to the phone. Glad to hear of this noise reduction stuff.
Althought you bought the phone on craigslist. the att warranty is not void. I had this happend to me before. get with the previous owner. ask them for the cell phone number, and explain to att that you bought the phone from him. they will send you a replacement.

If you have the official Twitter app, it has been causing lots of issues with music, ringtones, videos and notifications not working. There has been a lot of success fixing these issues by simply deleting the Twitter app. It fixed all my media related issues.
I have had great call quality with mine though. I think it is way better than my iPhone 4 was for making calls.

Is 2.3.5 any good?

Does it change battery life for the better?
Are data connections actually more reliable?
Any other real improvements??
I no longer have my Nexus, but I will buy another one in a second if the battery life is improved!
UPDATE:
Ok, so far it looks like people are indeed seeing improved signal and speeds.
What seems up in the air is the speaker volume (some are louder, some are not...)
Also unanswered as yet is how this update affects battery life. At least one person is saying his battery has gotten worse...
some say its better, im in mexico right now roaming on Movistar network...i updated, got 2.3.5 and everything seems the same....but probly wana listen out for someone in the usa. i wont be back tilll next sunday

Thanks. In terms of signal being better, is dBm better, or just the # of bars present? (they apparently jacked up the # of bars that show for a given signal strength, similar to what Apple did with the iPhone 4...)

Every small cellphone speaker will distort when turned all the way up. It definitely gets much louder than before which is great for my morning alarm.
It is louder, it was not cracking on mine but the music I listen to doesn't have heavy bass. I should try listening to some club music to test it out lol

I wonder which developer is working on this version right now
I think it would be better getting opinions after a week. Tonight, for my area at least, there was a data outage. I called sprint on another issue and they knew about the data and said it was nationwide. I made the impatient mistake (again) of using the samsung flasher back to stock. Every time I do that, I have to call sprint and have them reset something with my phone and the towers. I get error 16's.
am i missing something.........how are people testing the speakerphone? that is the only thing I really wanted from this update (along with 3G updates since I don't get 4G), and I notice no difference WHATsoever.
were they referring to alarm sounds, music, phone calls....what? did anyone have to perform a hard reset to notice the difference? the sounds have no difference in volume to me, especially phone calls and music.
Wow, google effed this one up. I now have a constant connection to my airave, full bars all the time. Only problem is I cant recieve calls now, they go straight to voicemail. Sprint rep says its a technical issue with the update and it will be looked into. In the mean time I have to unplug my airave and roam at home :/
Yea, as long as signal bars are not green I can recieve a call, as soon as they turn green it goes straight to voicemail. Also, my phone does ring alot louder now.
I've seen really no difference from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5.

^^^wondering this as well. I get complaints from people off echoing when using speaker phone I was assuming this was the issue it addressed, but i am not so sure now. I have seen numerous reports that the update kills the free hotspot and tether, but saw a few people that had it intact still. Can I get a confirm on this?

We are talking about the speaker (as in playing music), not speaker phone per se.
well that kinda sucks. I was hoping it was about the echoing when in speaker phone. Any one else have complaints from people on the other end when using speaker phone?

Why doesn't everyone quit whining like a gaggle of *****es and realize that the boot time is about 4 seconds total, steaming lag is gone in the browser and we have a improved radio? All my tethering options are now gone. I can select them, but once they're active my 3G disappears. I have to turn off the tethering, then reboot my mobile data to get it back. I guess this is their way of making people pay for it.

G2x Possibilites

I'm interested in getting a G2x... Looks like good hardware for a good price right now, but I had a few questions to see if it will fit my needs.
-I'm going to be using it wifi-only. I'm planning on installing CSipSimple to use as a VOIP phone. Anyone have experience doing this? On my Samsung moment CSipSimple has terrible issues routing audio and microphone.
-I would like to hook up my wiimote and plug the phone into my TV with HDMI for emulators... Has anyone had experience with doing this? Theoretically it looks like it should work flawless.
-I may in the future want to hook it up to voice/data. But on the cheap through a prepaid carrier like straight talk. You can get sims from straight talk, but will I have to unlock the phone? Is it even possible for this to work? Has anyone here done it before?
-Wifi only, what's the battery life like? Is a full day with moderate usage (screen-on 3 hours sporadic usage, wifi always on for voip calls) possible? Without cell connections I'd think it would last longer than normal.
-Any other issues with the phone that annoy people that might turn me off to the device?
Thanks!
i just ordered one of these, waiting for it to arrive at this very moment
i saw on the LG site a TON of bad reviews on this thing, a lot of them recent. things like the phone rebooting during a call, running hot, locking up to the point you have to remove the battery, bad battery life, and a few others.
but there were just as many good reviews too, best phone ever, no issues at all, etc. and some of those from people saying they have had their phone for over a few months, so i'm hoping mine will be fine
and i too am looking at what i can do with this device. i hope i will not be dissapointed
You came to the right place, the developers here have done a great job making this phone as stable as possible. They are, of course, limited by the LG code that they are working with, but the custom ROMs correct many issues. Of course, if you get a bad phone/bad hardware, not much can be done, but that's a risk with any phone.

Just flash custom ROMs, the hardware on this phone is amazing for such a cheap price, but LG can't code software for crap.
The stock ROM is guaranteed to give you rebooting, overheating, lock ups, bad battery life, etc...
But CM7 based ROMs (NOT CM9 BASED, CM9 IS NOT FINISHED) are all pretty rock solid stable. And even some of the 2.3.3 builds are good, Bionix Reloaded is the only 2.3.3 one that has been recently updated, but man Bionix is smooth as butter.
Have fun with your new powerhouse of a phone.

I can speak specifically to this one cuz I found out the hard way. You'll need to install a CyanogenMod7 based rom for this to work. Unless something has changed, the stock based ROMs don't have the necessary blue tooth profiles to connect a wiimote, sixaxis, etc. I was running Weapon G2x and my wiimote would not connect...so I switched to CM7 and it works.
With that said i love my phone and have little to no issues since I began running custom roms.

it's an app interface to http://www.google.com/voice
Google Voice is a (free!!) virtual phone service allowing you to make and receive calls/SMS for free from a web browser and forward these calls/SMS to any other phones you own.
GrooveIP is a VOIP app that connects to google voice via your cell phone's wifi connection, so you don't need to rely on a cell voice connection.
The Google Voice android app does the same thing for SMS.
Learn something new every day, thanks!

Phone rings once and then auto rejects?? (Intermittent)

Hey there,
Not sure if anyone else is having this problem or not:
My Nexus 5 will occasionally ring once, then auto reject the call. I am not sure what is going on with it.
Anyone else having this issue?
I thought it may be Google Voice causing the issue, but I disabled it, and it still is doing it.
Thank you for your continued help.
Mine has sort of done this, but it only rang for a split second before the call was rejected. This happened several times very rapidly, had to power off the phone to get it to stop. Hasn't done it since though.

[Q] Strange in call sound between 2 nexus 5s

Im having a really weird issue with the sound quality in call between my gf and me both on nexus 5s. I have had mine for a few weeks, she liked it and picked one up about a week ago. The sound for both of us is hard to describe but it sounds tinny, a high hiss, metallic when one of us are talking, when we're not there is no static, hiss anything, only when talking, almost changing our voices. Neither of us experience this talking to any one else at all. We don't live together so I talk to her regularly and I was thinking somehow it was with one of our towers while at our homes but I have other family that lives blocks from her and on tmo and we don't get this. So we tried in different locations and the same thing so that's out. The weird thing is I can hang up, call her using my google voice number and it is crystal clear, call back using my tmo number and right back to the same sound.
I'm not sure where to go with this. I know I can just use my GV number but it's driving me crazy trying to figure out why the hell it would do this. Any help or insight is appreciated.
If you are both on T-Mobile you are experiencing HD voice. It's a bit jarring at first, but you get used to it.
My wife moved from the HTC One to the Moto X and it doesn't support HD Voice like the One and Nexus 5 does. I miss it.

No idea where I got that.
That's true.
Hmm, HD Voice huh. It really doesn't sound soo HD to me. I did a little digging on this and looked up the phones that are capable and both our old phones were. Until we both had a N5 it didn't sound like this. I trust that this is it but i'm not a fan if this is what they call HD. But like you said maybe we'll get used to it.
Thanks for the info!
