If I buy a nexus 5 from ebay, can I still use the Google warranty on it?

Technically, the warranty is not by Google - it is by LG. Google will handle returns/replacements within the first 15 days.
According to LG, the warranty is for 12 months for the original purchaser.

Can I invoke it using the original receipt?

I think the warranty is tied to the original email address

Sorry - can't say because I haven't tried it. I suspect it will be ok if you have original receipt since all LG would really care about is the purchase date to figure out whether it is still under warranty or not, but I don't know if they will check purchaser name as well. You could check with Google/LG to be sure, but I'm pretty sure they will give you the legal answer
Just out of curiosity, why are you buying from ebay instead of the play store? Is it significantly cheaper there? I just glanced thru' some of the postings there and they all seem to be selling over $400 (buy it now)

The price in the Play Store is almost 450, with taxes and shipping, and there are options for less than that.
Moreover, I am having trouble ordering from the Play Store as I am not a resident of the USA, and only sending it to a person there. I know that the ebay order will get there, unlike the Play Store order which is still pending and can be dropped at any moment.

How to transfer google play warranty?

Hi i just bought a used nexus 5 from a seller that bought it from google how do I get the warranty transferred to me? TIA
It shouldn't matter but i'm hearing stories that it does and in that case the seller (original buyer) would need to call google and transfer it.
Dunno though because LG is the one that warrants the device from defects so you should be able to call LG directly. I suggested that to someone before however and they said they were told to call Google or original point of sale.
Makes no sense though but I guess.

On prior Nexi, if the item was purchased from anyone other than Google itself, only the manufacturer's warranty applied, not sellers (Google). If anyone discovers this NOT to be the case, please inform us of the circumstances.

I'm pretty sure googles warranty transfers over
Read the play terms. They state that it is still warrantied as a'gift'

What consider it being gift like buying it on swappa?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
As a "gift". You say you got it as a gift. Gplay state no reselling, but you are allowed to gift it. They store the imei numbers of the ones sold via gplay. Lg will ask for proof of purchase. Gplay use the imei numbers. Return it as a "gift".
Also, and before the flames begin, there's no real moral implication here. products are warrantied for at least 12months. The ownership of said item is not the issue.

I just got off the phone with a Google representative, and he told me the "giftee" may call Google to inform them the phone was received as a gift, so they can change the warranty info. Whether this is true or not, I'm not 100% positive. I asked if the person giving the gift needed to do it, and he assured me the person receiving the phone could call in and do it.
Hopefully this is accurate, as I am debating on buying a Nexus 5 on the play store vs used. It would be nice to still have close to a year warranty through Google, and not have to pay taxes and shipping on a new phone.

[Q] Purchasing Nexus 5

Hey guys, looking at getting a Nexus 5 and wondering why most of the Ebay prices I've seen are much HIGHER than the Google Play store? Considering Google Play has them in stock.... What's up with these ridiculous prices?

People are stupid?
You don't want to deal with UPS as your order fulfillment provider because they can't seem to manage to not screw up your order and fail to deliver your device in a timely manner?
You pick.

I just assumed that most people would check Google before going straight to Ebay and paying (in some cases) over $100 more. About to order one from Google Play right now..

When the Nexus 5's were first being sold, when it was sold out on the play store, people put them up on Ebay with a ridiculous mark-up.

This phone sells $800+ outside usa like in brazil or other places that cannot buy from playstore. No price is ridiculous as long as there is somebody willing to pay what you ask.

[Q] Buying a nexus 5 1 question

Hi, new to the forums and want to ask a question as maybe there are people here who will be able to help me.
I want to buy a nexus 5, and currently I'm looking at one on ebay for £50 less than the price on the google store. I asked the seller whether it comes with warranty and he said no as its being imported from outside the UK, however he said its a Genuine LG Nexus 5 even though its from hong kong (now you see my concern)
£290, is it worth risking it for a possible fake? (if there are fakes out there that is)
Thanks,
Rús

Pay the extra 50. It's worth it for the peace of mind and warranty. If it is a fake or it has a problem with it, it's going to be a nightmare and it's going to cost you much more to get it fixed.

I would post the link here for the auction but I'm not sure if thats allowed on these forums, I wouldn't expect it to be.
Pay the extra end of story......

Selling Nexus 5 - Transfer Ownership

So pretty much, I want to sell my Nexus 5 and a buyer contacted me telling me that i have to transfer ownership to him after we do the deal so he is able to have warranty. Is this dangerous in anyway, shape or form? I read online that you cannot get warranty if you arent the purchaser. I live in Australia by the way.

Just give Google a call.
I never heard ownership for buying a used device and I don't think you can transfer it to someone else. Jeez its just a phone -_-. The most you can do is give the seller receipt. Other than that he is on his own. That's the sacrifice he has to make for buying a used device. Good luck!

I did this when i bought a second hand N5,here's what i did:
1) Contacted Google support (via chat but you could phone them too)
2) I told them that the N5 was a gift and that i want to transfer the ownership for warranty purposes
3) They asked for the IMEI and the e-mail of the account that was used to buy the device
That's it,after a few minutes i received an email from Google saying that the ownership transfer was successful.

Best place to buy in the UK?

Is there a goto place to buy in the UK with a UK warranty?
Had a nightmare with oneplus and wont' buy chinese again until they have some local presence.
The Honor 8 in blue looks great, so hence the question of where to buy.
vmall.eu looks like its not UK based...
Thanks
There's cheaper but i picked mine up from Amazon just for the peace of mind of their returns.

Your best bet is to purchase the Honor 8 UK edition thru vmall.eu (https://www.vmall.eu/uk/honor-8-blue-292297/) which includes a warranty (see specifics here: https://www.vmall.eu/uk/warranty-policy/). If you have any other questions regarding the device and warranty policy, please let us know. (NS)
I got mine from a three store in the uk. No other stores stock these.
Can't go wrong mines blue looks gorgeous
vmall.eu's shipping seems from Expansys?

Notes:
The estimated arrival times are taken directly from information provided by our couriers. These are estimates only, and EXPANSYS are not responsible for any variation.
If selecting a next working day service, goods will need to be signed for. To help, please give a delivery address where someone will be available to sign.
Please note: Next day delivery service is available only when orders are invoiced and/or shipped out.
Unfortunately, if goods are returned to EXPANSYS because of an incorrect or incomplete address, the carriage is not refundable so please double check before submission.

i phoned them and told them I don't need a sim card thanks.. already got one, so got just the phone for 339. If you get told they can't sell them on the phone and online only, then hand up and call back until you get someone who knows what they are doing. took me three attempts. must be why they are called three!
Buying them Honor devices from Three UK you get the same warranty as if bought online via Vmall.UK.So trust assured you good on all accounts and Vmall will deal with you directly once bought.
Got my partners from three today a d on the phone there is like a customer service portal, typed in the imei and she has a two year warranty

Thanks, I have read those and they don’t specify who the repairer is and what country they reside, so it isn’t clear if its shipped abroad to get cover or done in the UK and are subject to UK laws?

Between 3 and Expansys, Amazon are by far the best option for me, but they only cover the device for one year and then you’d have to go to honour or others?
Just not clear and although it looks a lovely device, I will steer clear until it becomes clear who i deal with if anything should go wrong.
Thanks for all the input, much appreciated.

I think 1 year is good enough already... usually after 1 year, manufacturer will stop/slow down upgrade, at that time, you have to rely on developers from XDA or places alike.

i have to agree here, most places will only offer a year anyway as after this they normally have slowed down production and are at that point concentrating on another product.
if its that much of a problem about aftercare i would personally find good insurance for your phone after the year is up @OP
i have insurance on all my electronics so i never pay a thing for breakdowns etc.
