Hello,
Before I buy the Nexus 5, I would like to know whether or not it is possible to disable the Optical Image Stabilization feature?
Thanks!

i'm not 100% positive on this, but my guess would be no. this is a hardware feature of the optics and not controlled by software (again, i could be completely wrong)
the other question is why do you want to? have you looked in the pictures thread?

That's no good news.
I was thinking about implementing a "vision based" navigation system (really just a simply algorithm).

In the interest of helping future google-searchers who discover this thread as I did, know that with Android L and later the camera2 api allows for this functionality.

Hello everybody
I just bought the N5 32GB version, but I thought it would be possible to have the S4's camera app on this device since it has more functions than the n5's stock camera app. I woukd also be interesting to have the dual camera function in order to take two pics simultaneously (front and back camera). Playstore don't offer much, or are not comparable with the s4 camera. May you tell me where to download it or if there is a special version for ours n5?
Thanks.
Nothing yet
Probably won't since Samsung has an entire set of weird proprietary drivers.

Won't work, uses Samsung's proprietary framework. Some alternatives you can look at include Focal in the play store, and a few developers here are working on an LG G2 port and a Lenovo port. I can't believe how bad the stock camera has gotten which each android update. Google keeps removing settings and customization options. Why in the world do they think the end user only wants to change one setting at a time? I really dislike how the settings close as soon as you make one change.

I don't have an alternative unfortunately. The stock camera app may not have too many features, but it serves all my purposes well.
Snap Camera seems fine, but it doesn't have as much features as S4, unfortunately.
In s3 never Achieved the port. Here I see impossible.
Sorry for my bad english.

Ive searched and have not found any NEW flashable patchs to disable the camera shutter sounds for v4.4.4.
Not wanting to mess up my phone with the old files I have from 1st release of kit kat.
Anybody have any idea if they are still safe? Or is there a patch I havent found for v4.4.4?
Thanks in advance

If your rooted you can go to system/media/audio/ui and change camera noise by adding .back to the end of it

I saw that posted from a google search.
But it wont fix the sounds in HDR mode.
Also if you look at the dates of those postings they are made before the v4.4.4 came out.
Thank you for the input.

Its the same in any version
You'll also have to decompile Google Camera if you want to remove the sound on HDR+ mode.

Meh, I don't like the sounds either. I suppose it's because I don't like the mimic sound of a physical hardware shutter. HDR is at least a beep.

As far as I know the sound in the stock ROM is the same as the HDR+ beep, I think the shutter mimicking sound is an AOSP thing lol. I don't like the AOSP sounds
I looked into this for a while and found that there's no easy way. I'd say the best option is a tasker profile to turn your phone to silent when you launch the Camera app and reset it when you close the camera app.

ROTF If that was the case I really doubt the camera of choice would be a Nexus 5....
Worth the smile tho
My Nexus 5 is a workhorse, still on 4.4.2 because "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
My only issue with the phone is the poor photos and videos it shoots, especially comparing to iphones and samsungs.
The question, will upgrading to android 6 improve photo quality (stock google updates, not mods).
I am sure many of you used both versions and can comment on photo and video differences.
I know there are camera API improvements, security fixes, UI changes, let's leave them aside for now and talk about perceived quality of actual photos and videos taken.
Thanks for any feedback.
Nothing much, the camera is the camera, and it is not that great.
What I read is that the newer versions of android allow direct access to the raw image, so the processing and compression can be done in apps. I saw somewhere photos side by side which showed substantial difference (but I don't know what app they were using).
The camera hardware specs are actually not that bad.

Do it. Marshmallow is great!!! But don't upgrade. Use factory image. It's better..

No. You will need to unlock your bootloader but, which can be relocked. You can PM me for help. Thanks!!!
So here's the full story
I made a cap with 3 IR lights on it to use it for head tracking with a software called "OpenTrack". But the problem is that I don't have a webcam(I know it sounds silly ), so I use my phone(Galaxy S8) with DroidCam to transmit the video. Now the problem is that it's only like 640x480 at 30fps. :/ So what I want to do is to utilize my phone's 240fps camera for better tracking. I hope this is possible to do with low latency(over USB , of course), or if it's possible at all. So the question is that is there an app, or any way to do this?

Is there a way to make a software for example in unity? Kind of a ridiculous question btw

For me any questions is important , whatever the answer is obvious or not. To answer you , I haven't the sufficient knowledge to make this software , but you can try to Google the question , maybe you'll find a software
I was wondering if anyone has been able to enable HDR screen support for the A53 5G so it doesn't pass through an HDR -> SDR tone-mapper. So far, I haven't seen any mods or roms that would facilitate this. From the system report, the screen is capable of HDR10 and HLG, but I'm not sure if there's any way of adding this functionality using just software.

I don't think you can without a rooted software modification. Since the Exynos 1280 in the A53 5G doesn't have hardware HDR decoding, it all depends on whether that is required for the screen to receive an HDR output, or if that functionality can be emulated using software. I have the A53, I was just wondering if anyone was able to get this working with some workaround.
Wait, how is it possible with root then?

I didn't say it was possible with root, I just said that if it was possible, it would likely require root. For clarity, I am asking if anyone has been able to get HDR on the A53; I haven't been able to.
