I was wondering if anyone has been able to enable HDR screen support for the A53 5G so it doesn't pass through an HDR -> SDR tone-mapper. So far, I haven't seen any mods or roms that would facilitate this. From the system report, the screen is capable of HDR10 and HLG, but I'm not sure if there's any way of adding this functionality using just software.

I don't think you can without a rooted software modification. Since the Exynos 1280 in the A53 5G doesn't have hardware HDR decoding, it all depends on whether that is required for the screen to receive an HDR output, or if that functionality can be emulated using software. I have the A53, I was just wondering if anyone was able to get this working with some workaround.
Wait, how is it possible with root then?

I didn't say it was possible with root, I just said that if it was possible, it would likely require root. For clarity, I am asking if anyone has been able to get HDR on the A53; I haven't been able to.

Hello,
Before I buy the Nexus 5, I would like to know whether or not it is possible to disable the Optical Image Stabilization feature?
Thanks!

i'm not 100% positive on this, but my guess would be no. this is a hardware feature of the optics and not controlled by software (again, i could be completely wrong)
the other question is why do you want to? have you looked in the pictures thread?

That's no good news.
I was thinking about implementing a "vision based" navigation system (really just a simply algorithm).

In the interest of helping future google-searchers who discover this thread as I did, know that with Android L and later the camera2 api allows for this functionality.

Hi,
I want to know if it's possible to have a longer shutter speed ? I try Camera FV-5 but I can get only 1/10 and just 1s in Manual mode with stock camera app. And for the price of the phone, I find this pretty annoying..
Thanks in advance
Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain you can't, without root that is.
Unless Sony remedies that in a future update or something.

I'm actually rooted, is there a solution with root ?
So, YouTube published this list
https://devicereport.youtube.com/
And while for example mate 10 pro is present there, Huawei's latest flagship p20 pro is not. Anybody knows what is the reason for that? It's a pity to pay more than 800€ for a device she not have the flagship experience.

I wonder if it's something to do with either the notch or aspect ratio? I dunno but they might add more devices soon.

Can't be the notch. OnePlus 6 is on the list

Forgot that device existed. I wonder why then. Like i say they might add it to the list later on.
It might have to do with the fact that the screen is not HDR10 certified, like the Mate 10 Pro's. Though I find it kinda silly, since this one basically uses the same panel.

I also think that it has something to do with HDR. Now Netflix seems to work with HD and HDR, but YouTube I haven't seen with HDR yet
i think just the matter of time until it got certified.
a lot of devices (not just P20 pro) were left out if we about to see it that way.

I already installed it today on my L09, turn on force vp9 codec on vance option but can't see hdr option for any video, only 1080p 60fps.
Any idea?
Edit: Solution found, had to tap some times over "about" in vance options and new options where activated under codec.

This is a temporary fix until Poco solves the Widevine issue for watching Netflix in HD and UltraHD.
Hi everyone, I have found a modded version of Netflix which allows HD and Ultra HD streaming on devices with WideVine L3 support.
I have extensively tested this app, it actually streams in 720p and above on Poco F1.
Instructions for 1st run:
Skip update and sign in, it may lag just close the app and reopen it and it will work after that flawlessly.
The link for HD only is: http://www.mediafire.com/file/i08g9us89xeu1xf/netflixlatest.hdonly.apk/file
And The link for Ultra HD is:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/8wmaxnftgr1h2m4/netflixlatest.ultrahd.apk/file

I spied the XDA thread on this issue. Great to have easy access to the APK.
The point stands though that it's harder than you might think to distinguish between Netflix at ultra HD and 540p on a phone, with the former using a lot more data.
Good to have the option though ?

I believe many users might have not noticed that, just like me so a dedicated thread is needed for this topic instead of a link embed in a unlock and root guide thread.

Awesome News! Now waiting for a Amazon Prime and HBO solution
Doesn't work. Just tried with test patterns. Max it can go is upto 480p. Ultra HD won't even start the stream.

I tested the HD one, maybe you could try that one. Ultra HD may not work as the screen itself is full hd and not 4k.
Try a different show too.

It just shows HD logo beside the title but it actually doesn't work. If anything doesn't work on least copyrighted test patterns - it won't work on anything in Netflux. I also tried this on my unofficial Android box which has Widevine L1 but also fails and caps the video at 480p. The mod is just to enable the l9go besides the title

Its just a certification process which is free of cost. Check this link out
https://www.androidauthority.com/widevine-explained-821935/
Btw the official miui forum states that it is already in development with google and Qualcomm.

It's actually a software issue, but the security key is stored in a secure partition that can only be accessed by authorised computers from manufacturers.
Good news guys the mi team gonna release Widevine L1 support to our beloved F1 in the upcoming beta within Q4

Finally, i can watch netflix in HD on my mipad 4, thank thanks thanks ?
is it need subcription?
I was wondering this because I heard it breaks certain things. I have the DRM fix, but does it need that? I can't really tell for sure. I'm talking about the 4k video play.

Ok thank you. I don't care about anything else that much really. But I would of hated having a 4k panel that won't be 4k functional.
