Does rooting and unlocking phone break 4k? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

I was wondering this because I heard it breaks certain things. I have the DRM fix, but does it need that? I can't really tell for sure. I'm talking about the 4k video play.

Ok thank you. I don't care about anything else that much really. But I would of hated having a 4k panel that won't be 4k functional.

My camera just doesn't stop shaking. not able to take steady pictures

Hi All,
I have a problem when taking video on my huawei mate 9. Video always shaking if I try to take video with resolution at FHD 1080p [16:9,stereo] and HD 720p [16:9,stereo] with all the setting at default. I had done factory reset but the problem still persists. Anyone facing the same issue ?
Here is the link to my phone and system info and video samples. Also recorded process.

I have never seen anyone report such issue nor can I reproduce it on my device. I'm guessing here, but it seems to me that you have something wrong with the OIS mechanism. I think your best bet would be to use your warranty.

720p60fps?

Guys, many reviews say h8 has 720p60fps video capability. But I don't find it in the video settings. 60fps is only available for 1080p. Is it available in other region models?

Not sure what reviews you've looked at, but I haven't seen any state this. It's simply not true. The Honor 8 (and most phones) only offers 60fps in 1080p.
Me too.

Guys apologies for the confusion. I remember reading it somewhere and hence was wondering if it's missing. Anyways 60fps is only on 1080p.
Peace...

P20 pro not YouTube signature device?

So, YouTube published this list
https://devicereport.youtube.com/
And while for example mate 10 pro is present there, Huawei's latest flagship p20 pro is not. Anybody knows what is the reason for that? It's a pity to pay more than 800€ for a device she not have the flagship experience.

I wonder if it's something to do with either the notch or aspect ratio? I dunno but they might add more devices soon.

Forgot that device existed. I wonder why then. Like i say they might add it to the list later on.
It might have to do with the fact that the screen is not HDR10 certified, like the Mate 10 Pro's. Though I find it kinda silly, since this one basically uses the same panel.

I also think that it has something to do with HDR. Now Netflix seems to work with HD and HDR, but YouTube I haven't seen with HDR yet
i think just the matter of time until it got certified.
a lot of devices (not just P20 pro) were left out if we about to see it that way.

I already installed it today on my L09, turn on force vp9 codec on vance option but can't see hdr option for any video, only 1080p 60fps.
Any idea?
Edit: Solution found, had to tap some times over "about" in vance options and new options where activated under codec.

What happens if you unlock the bootloader and what features do i loose?

Hi, i am very curious on the rooting scenario.. what happens if i unlock the bootloader and root my op7, wich features do i miss out on and does it do anything special? I want to use substratum, since i like to theme my phones ?
You will lose Widevine L1 which will means you cannot view DRM video in anything but 480p. (ie. Netflix will not play HD video)

Correct. It reads the security level as L3 and just downloads the content in 480p. I've tried this before and it was still just L3 and not L1

Netflix and Amazon correct? As long as YouTube is good.
Is it permanently lost, or can you recover it by re-locking the bootloader?

On older Oneplus Phones it is recovered by re-locking it (read here for example), haven't read any statements for the OP7, though I would assume it's the same.

Lmao! Come on now this isn't like back in the day where you entered line by line in adb.. They could also just want to unlock the bootloader to convert their tmo OP to an international and don't really care about root.

A lot of banking apps won't work on rooted devices due to the security risk it poses to your accounts with those banks. I have also read that Pokémon Go also does not work on rotted devices. You will also lose Google Pay.

Isnt there some app like gearbox or something that can hide the detection in apps? I think i did this back in the day ?
Yes, you can just hide those apps using magisk hide in the magisk manager. It works with all banking apps, for me.

General HEVC and Instagram stories

Hello
I just noticed I can't upload video clips recorded with HEVC format and share from gallery to Instagram stories, it won't upload, trying with the S21 it works no problem, if I disable HEVC it works, can someone else try and confirm this is the case? I don't know if Samsung or Instagram is to blame. Thanks

yeah, how to notify them about it? or hopefully it gets fixed with coming software update?
Likely the phone. Check permissions. Maybe the hevc version.
I won't let Instagram run on my phone... or fb, WhatsApp etc. Security risk.
If it can't be logged on the browser and needs a "special" app to use it, no go. Trashware.

You could notify Instagram and see if they can do anything about it.
It's typically not something you can fix on your own, since it's a file format that has to be supported by the app. Trolls will be trolls, though.

It could be as silly as a mimetype update. I was looking to see if there are any reports about an update to the format or anything like that, but most sources are dated enough to still say Facebook and friends don't support the format at all.

Alright. I'll keep looking around. I know I ended up giving up on it because it wasn't supported in Signal and I didn't have the motivation.

I see, it saves 50% space recording with HEVC compared to old format so I've used it since Samsung offered that option and it worked with no problem sharing clips to Instagram stories.
I tried with another Flip3 and exact same problem.
