Samsung Galaxy S4 Camera App on Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody
I just bought the N5 32GB version, but I thought it would be possible to have the S4's camera app on this device since it has more functions than the n5's stock camera app. I woukd also be interesting to have the dual camera function in order to take two pics simultaneously (front and back camera). Playstore don't offer much, or are not comparable with the s4 camera. May you tell me where to download it or if there is a special version for ours n5?
Thanks.

Nothing yet
Probably won't since Samsung has an entire set of weird proprietary drivers.

Won't work, uses Samsung's proprietary framework. Some alternatives you can look at include Focal in the play store, and a few developers here are working on an LG G2 port and a Lenovo port. I can't believe how bad the stock camera has gotten which each android update. Google keeps removing settings and customization options. Why in the world do they think the end user only wants to change one setting at a time? I really dislike how the settings close as soon as you make one change.

I don't have an alternative unfortunately. The stock camera app may not have too many features, but it serves all my purposes well.

Snap Camera seems fine, but it doesn't have as much features as S4, unfortunately.

In s3 never Achieved the port. Here I see impossible.
Sorry for my bad english.

note app

From the videos I saw about the galaxy note 10.1, the note app looked to phenomenal on t haggis. Has any one used it yet and has anyone started to port this yet to other tablets like the Lenovo ThinkPad?
With so few s-pen tablets out there we need a centralized location wherer we can recycle software

I don't think it will be easy to port it to another laptop.

why would you say that for? Unless it's heavily dependent on the framwork, I can't see any reason otherwise.

All of the S-Pen apps are HEAVILY dependent upon the TouchWiz framework.
They simply will not work on anything other than a TouchWiz ROM. Period.

Can I change the IMX220 camera sensor of my Xperia Z3, for a IMX230 sensor

Or in other words, the xperia z3 have "The drivers" in order to install the IMX220, or if I want to make this change, I have to modify the Kernel?
Thank you in advance.
I think you would need to write new drivers. Don't think they come with the Z3.

You can, bur you will spend so much time and effort and money to do this, that is much easier and cheaper to buy new phone instead.

Well, I know that it's more easy to buy a new phone, but this summer I'll have too much time
I don't think that it will be too much money and time, I only have to buy a the new camera that cost 20$ aprox.
And with the drivers, I think, "I don't know if I'm right, and this is the reason I create this post", that I only have to uncompress the kernel, find the side where is located the camera driver, and change this part of code for the code that have the Z4.
I repeat, I've never done a modification of the kernel, so I don't know her internal structure, If you say me that It will be very very dificult I won't do it.
The objective is not to improve the camera, is to do something this summer, instead of making android applications
Thank you
I see that all mobile devices use imx074.c driver, is this possible?
I assume even the stock camera app would need changes? Not to mention where would you get the unit, how do you know it will fit/have same connectors?
I'm really interested to know as well, if that's the case then i would be happy to change my camera but I'm pessimistic about the connector and the size of the camera as well. I don't think it won't fit. Is IMX230 the one is GS6?

The chances of it properly fitting with the lens/optics is slim to none. Not even all IMX220 implementations are equal due to different optics, and having a mismatch between the vignetting/distortion corrections for one optical assembly with another cause issues. (See CyanogenMod on the Z3 - using old 4.3 rhine camera blobs causes issues due to the Z3 having slightly different optics.)
The camera HALs are highly proprietary (no source code available) and tuned specifically to each device. Even if you managed to port the kernel side of the camera driver, you'll be missing a device-appropriate HAL stack, and the HAL is where the software "heavy lifting" actually occurs.
Retrofitting an IMX230 like this will be unlikely to work at all, and even if it does work, it'll result in poor image quality due to the HALs for any existing IMX230 implementation not matching what would be found if you retrofitted the sensor into a Z3.
Any news? I'm interested in it too... my project is about a complete new camera starting from the IMX230 sensor. You can find it on aliexpress for 15 usd. Than a MIPI module is required, with hdmi/video out. It doesn't sound too difficult...

The wide angle camera on LG5 is hardware related so No, it cannot be ported as a zip file..

The G5 has a wide angle lens, meaning it's the actual lens that allows you to do it.. it's not a software thing you can port over. It's a piece of hardware that enables the G5 to do it.

Not until someone makes a zip for you to download more RAM first, that's required for running the wide feature.

i figure it a hardware thing,ok cool thanks
i know the wide feature is a hardware related, but how about the shutter speed and ISO? we can still uses that if we able to port the G5 camera app to this phone right?
pro mode in s7 is nothing compared to what manual mode in G4, so i guess the manual mode in G5 will be much better if somebody can port it, right?
thank you

i know that, but it maxed out at 800 instead of 2700 and 10s instead 30s compared to G4, and i dont like the user interface too. scrolling the settings are much harder compared to G4, its like tiny scrolling using scrollbar instead of mouse roll

Live Focus on Rear Camera

Hi guys. I was wondering if someone with a rooted device could answer me this. So, since the A8 has no live focus on rear camera, I wonder if it's possible activating it just by adding the same lines of the selfie camera on the camera-feature.xml file on the rear camera section.
Maybe Samsung could have disabled this. Since like the S8 has just one camera and got the live focus. I don't know, maybe the software really don't support it and I could be wrong.

Request to any P40 owner

There was an option in camera app on my previous Samsung Galaxy S8+, and it appears it's an option with Huawei's Mate 20 series, that allows the camera to only record slow-mo video when motion is detected.
However, this 'only record when motion detected' slow-mo option is missing on my P30 Pro.
Can anyone with a P40-series phone let me know if Huawei put it back in?
EDIT: Never mind. Turns out the option appears when you select 960 fps. Here's what I captured:
Yes its back..

Could you possibly do me a favor and let me know the version of the camera app you have?
That way, I can try to find an APK to sideload.

Global or Chinese? Which Version?
I'm in the UK with p40pro so must be global. Just do a system software update to 10.1.0.114
Never mind - Turns out the option appears when you select 960 fps.

Not sure if I'm finding the correct setting. But on my p40pro the option to record slow ow on on motion dection works on all fps options but you have to set the area where it my detect motion.

Off the topic query but how are you finding the p40pro till now in terms of camera and the software experience? ..i have ordered one here in UK and will probably get it in a couple of days

First off it it's a beautiful device and feels great in the hand. It's one of those devices that you find satisfying to touch.
The camera is excellent exactly how I expected it to be after owning a mate 20 Pro a last year, and that device ruined my experience of owning a note 10 plus as the camera on the note just couldn't compare.
Software is good although EMUI is one of my favourite android skins anyway. I find it pretty easy to live without gms as I don't really do social media or anything.
It is easy to put gms on this device although I took it off just to run a stock phone as stock. Due to the fact the only things I wanted from gms (Google pay and music) won't work anyway.
Main gripe with this phone is no gpay or banking apps. Hopefully Huawei can sort this soon. Oh and no stereo speaker or dolby atmos.
Now I need to decide whether to switch from my note 10 plus to this or not?

Yeah the note Is a good phone but Samsung ruined the note with a software update that made the camera blurry and the Bluetooth streaming skip on music play back. And seems as though I take 100+ inspection photos daily for work it's very annoying.
I just can't get on with Samsung ui either it's too much.
The thought of not being fully tracked by Google is quite refreshing as well.
It is weird how nice this phone feels... I find even if I'm not using it I just rotate it in the hand whilst watching TV odd.
