you still gotta pay a $50 deductible and you're supposed to send them the phone back if its not lost or stolen. i imagine if it came up missing they would

I believe it does but you would have to pay a deductible.
Heres a link to their site with more info:
http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/basics/choosing-features-services/wireless-insurance.jsp
If its lost or stolen, then you need to file a police report.
it covers everything ... but you pay the deductible ... i believe it is 125$ for the inspire.
Thanks for the responses guys! That deductible sounds like a @#%&

its based on the actual cost of the phone i believe ... (company cost not customer cost)
I actually just did an insurance claim on my inspire. ***** pushed me in a pool and had my inspire in my pocket and fried it instantly. They will have you call an 800 number to process your claim, in which they will ask you questions on the condition of your phone. They will mail you a brand new, non refurbished phone in the mail, which takes a couple days to arrive in the mail. Once received, you will have to mail your original phone back using the same box your new phone came in. You have 10 days to send in your old phone before additional charges apply. A deductible of $125 will be charged to your account.

SPOBI. They always try refurbished devices first, if none are available then you may get a new one.
And technically cosmetic damage is not covered...usability has to be impacted. That's not to say you can't make a case for some software issue haha....
Whatever you do remember that you can only have 3 claims in any 12 month period.

Get the best buy blacktie protection plan. Covers pretty much everything and NO DEDUCTIBLE. And it's always a new phone they give you. They don't have refurbished phones to give.

are you sure best buy gives brand new phones??
i was told they deal with the same company as att ?
Do you have to buy it from Best Buy?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Best Buy's Black Tie Covers all damage that affects the usability of the phone. So not just some light scratches unless you prove it keeps you from using your phone properly. It does not cover loss, theft, or total submersion in water (how that's supposed to proven, I dunno). The phone is sent out as a "rapid-exchange" where you'll have a refurbished phone in your hands in 3-5 business days.
Before the new rapid-exchange system, it used to be that if the phone was not cost effective to fix, they would tell the store to give you a brand new one. This is no longer true as of recently.
EDIT: The phone does have to be purchased at Best Buy.. unless it is an iPhone and you have a receipt showing it was purchased new within 30 days.

Actually best buy gives you brand new phones. If they have the phone in stock they gladly just swap it out if you can reproduce the problem right then and there. No refurbs and no deductible. I think it's about 9 or 10 dollars a month.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
It's store manager discretion if they swap it out with a brand new one at BBY. Actual SOP is send out to be fixed and the customer is offered a loaner phone. If it takes 30 days or the repair is not cost effective (total destruction of phone or severe water damage) then the phone is replaced with new device.
The rapid Exchange process mentioned above is rolling out in waves by carrier at BBY. Currently only VZW is all rapid exchange, ATT is still 'send for service'.
The misinformation floating around astounds me...

Hi guys, I just sent my xoom in for repair since it was under warranty. They sent it back saying that it had liquid damage and it's not covered. I haven't gotten it wet so I suspect that one of my kids got to it. This is my first time having an electronic liquid damaged so my question us that can they be repaired? I see a few repair sites out there but don't want to be charged for something that can't be fixed. The screen doesn't come on and doesn't react to touch but when I plug it into the hdmi it shows up on screen so that gave me some hope.

Do a search in the general section. There was another user with exactly this same problem a few weeks ago. Title was something about Motorola refused to repair Xoom. Interesting thread with about 30 replies.

Did you pay by credit card? If it's within 90 days, your credit card company will send you a check for the price you charged to the credit card. If it's over 90 days, then the credit card company will basically double the manufacturers warranty but they will not add more than one year and you can't have more than 5 years combined so what you need to do is wait for the manufacturers warranty to run out and then the credit card company will either repair or basically cut you a check for the amount you charged for the purchase.
Thanks for the replies. i bought it when it came out in feb so I will check general section fire that thread and hopefully ill find something

I don't understand this. Are you saying that the credit card company, eg Visa, will repair under warranty or give you a refund if the manufacturer says you have damaged it and it's not covered by their warranty?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express all have Warranty Manager and Purchase Protection, check the benefits of your specific credit card for more information. It has nothing to do with the manufacturer. You get 90 days lost, damage or theft protection so they will usually just pay you whatever you charged for the credit card. The Warranty Protection is only effective after the manufacturers warranty runs out, I have no idea how long Motorola warranty is for. They will basically double any manufacturers warranty of 5 years or less by adding no more than 1 year to it. Their warranty takes effect after the manufacturers warranty expires so it has nothing to do with coverage but rather, it begins the day after the manufacturers warranty runs out which is why you can't do a claim until n+1 days after the manufacturer warranty expires where n is the last day of the manufacturers warranty. They will repair under warranty only up to the amount charged so if your Xoom cost $600 and you charged $600, they will only cover $600 and if it costs $1,000 to fix, they will still send you $600 only. If you only charged $10 and paid the $590 using other payment methods, they will only send you $10 since their liability is only for the amount charged. This is part of the credit card logo company (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and not something that is covered by the credit card issuing bank with the exception of American Express.

So where do I get an insurance for my coming Nexus 4. I;m kinda skeptical about the strength of the phone and need a backup is something happens.
Only from Shop
If you bought it from a third-party store, you'll have warranty from the shop.
If bought online, no insurance. Just buy a case, and don't damage it, it really isn't that hard if you take care of it and not throw it everywhere.

SquareTrade but you will end up paying for the device in about 2 years. If you feel you might break it in that time go right ahead. (Note fine print has a $99 deductible.)
Honestly I will just do my best not to break it, and if I do, just buy a new one.

Yeah problem with squaretrade is that with the upfront fee plus deductible, you're almost at the price of a new phone. This probably goes for any insurance on this phone since it's relatively inexpensive.
Would like to add that square trade will have a 40% off sale for black Friday. See their Facebook page to sign up. Makes it a more reasonable price. Now if only in can get a hold of a nexus 4 lol
If you buy from Google, you don't need a insurance. Just be careful of accidental damage which can be prevented if you pay attention.

Ohh thanks for the info. The website states $7/mo or $125 for 2 years. The only difference between the two is paying up front or monthly right (aside from the discount)? Or are you able to cancel at any time, say after a year? I'm contemplating on whether it's a good deal since there is a $100 deductible (wil there be tax added on?) and the value of the phone will go down overtime as well. But with the 40% black fri deal, I would probably get it .
Also... this only covers damage and not lost/stolen phones like Tmobile insurance right..?

Well I know for the lump sum one that if you cancel you get a prorated refund. I haven't found anything saying that you can't cancel the monthly plan but I would contact them to be sure.
The deductible shouldn't have any tax added. And yes it does not cover lost/stolen phones.
Usually I'm very careful with my phones but have dropped them from time to time. I did own an iPhone 4 for only 6 months though so still not sure about the longetivity of an all glass phone.hence contemplating square trade. But with the 40% off I would be looking at 175 if I do file a claim.
Another option I saw a fellow xda recommend is going threw werth Ave group. Its an actual insurance company(think auto, home, etc) they have a 50 deduct and covers theft. But know nothing about them
Would these insurance policies cover if the micro USB charging port on the phone gets messed up? it happen on my sprint OG Evo4G, the USB got completely separated from the board itself... (I have no clue how that could happen) and i had to go through my insurance to get it taken care of, (and shell out $100 for a replacement)
But how about if by accident the phone get bricked or something software related? Or if they battery doesn't charge good anymore and it needs to be replace?
If you bought it through T-Mobile, they have a $5 per month insurance policy ($20 deductible) for accidental damage. They also have an $8 per month policy (no deductible) that covers damage and theft. Beats the SquareTrade, even with the discount. I understand that most people probably got it through the Play Store but hope that helps anyone thinking of getting it through T-Mobile.
I personally got the $8 plan. I'll probably either cancel the plan or downgrade it to the $5 after I get a case and some screen covers.
I have a Citi Forward Visa card, for free (no annual fee either) you get $250 of cell phone insurance ($50 deductible). I just filed a claim on my Galaxy Nexus after the screen cracked when I dropped it. Seems pretty straightforward and can't beat the price. It covers breakage & theft.

I'm pretty sure Premium Handset Protection will work with the Nexus 4. I don't see why it wouldn't, considering there are NO differences between the Play Store and T-Mobile version.

This. You just have to be really careful.
In short:
Broken s3, dropped with shattered screen, then the s3 sudden death syndrome so a device that 100% refuses to even acknowledge a charger plugged in via the wall.
Go to the website and file a claim.
Device has cosmetic damage, I give reason as "dropped phone" and moments later and told tomorrow i will get:
1. A new device
2. New battery
3. New factory charger
Called them to confirm this and a call center person (Indian sounded like) tells me:
1. The device is factory new, I ask and no it isn't refurbished.
2. It comes we whatever a factory new s3 comes with (sim card, charger, headphones)
3. It will be here tomorrow.
Edit: I can keep the old battery and back as well. So I ask "okay ill have two batteries now and two back case parts?"
Yes, he confirms...
So what? Did these guys lie their asses off to me and I can expect to get hosed tomorrow?
Or is there a chance they aren't as bad as people say now a days?
Well i guess we'll find out tomorrow

My wife is on her 3rd gs3 assurion gave her a new battery, back cover, sim card and charger each time with the phone. No headphones, and the only thing we sent back was the main phone itself, not the battery or cover and the replacements arrived within 24 his of claim. It was great service.
I will be using asurion soon myself. Not for my phone but for my daughter's. She cracked the screen the 2nd day she had it. The worst part is I didn't pay anything for the phone but I have to pay 50 for the deductible

Yessiree, $99.00... No tax.
I won't expect headphones but I was pretty much expecting to get screwed with all the horror stories I had read of used phones with third party parts coming back to people.
Actually verizon forced the insurance on me.
Last year I had five phones that were faulty.
On the month after the manufacturers warranty I had a screen that wouldn't light up on an htc Incredible2.
I elevated the complaint to verizon corporate and they gave me an s3 for the new contract price but said Insurance was mandatory as part of their compromise (wasn't upgrade eligible for 11 months.
So the verizon corporate relations person told me asurion sends new devices back in august when that transaction happened and it seems he was right.
ONE WORD OF CAUTION
If your damage happens over 30 days ago, just tell asurion it happened yesterday or today.
A verizon rep told me that asurion will deny claims with old damage but you can tell them anything you want to as to when it was broken.
Mine broke in January, then sudden death two weeks ago.
This isn't fraud in my eyes. I'm sending the broken one back.
Just as others have said I was told to send a shell of the phone. Anything that can be removed without a screwdriver I keep (sim card, sd card, original battery, back cover) ...

Of course you are really are paying for it with the deductible and the monthly fee. and no matter what assurion assures you of , you are getting refurb stuff, THey sent me 3 "new" phones before I finally got one that lasted for more than 2 days without rebooting on its own or failing entirely
Do anybody actually buy warranties like squaretrade for nexus phones and find it worth it ?
It comes with warranty anyway. I don't expect to use it much after warranty expires.
Insurance in the other hand, for me - yes! Accidental damage, theft and loss. Im inlucky so the peace of mind is worth it. Not everyone is the same
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Well the one I am considering is the squaretade one which doesn't cover loss and theft and while I am covered currently with one of AT&T I am moving to t-mobile because it is cheaper per month and they don't sell insurance on devices you bring with you and in my case the nexus 5 I bought on the play store
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
So you're asking if insurance is worth it? Not warranty (manufacturing defects)... but the insurance doesn't cover loss or theft? What does it cover? Accidental damage only?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The "extended warranty" that is sold is one of the highest profit items for a retailer.
Same goes for the "equipment protection plans" or whatever they call them these days.
Figure what the chance of you using the plan/insurance is over the couple of years your phone is worth replacing. Remember that they will probably replace it with a "refurb" and not a new phone. Multiply the chance of you using it by about $200. (A new Nexus is $400, will probably be worth $200 in a year or two, and $100 not long after that.) That $8 a month is about $100 a year. In two years, you could have held onto the cash and, if something happened to your phone, easily bought a replacement yourself, or used the $200 to trade up to your next shiny object.
As pointed out above, even if you do buy it, what does it really cover?
