[Q] Bad battery life after upgrading to 10.2.0 RC1 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all,
After upgrading to 10.2.0 RC1 on my Nexus S, the battery life can only survive for several hours.
Then I checked detailed battery usage(Setting->Battery), the SMS app used almost 82% battery.
Now my workaround solution is shutting down the SMS app.
Does anyone meet the same problem ?
Many thanks.

You should try using Greenify - forcefully hibernates apps when the screen turns off, until you need them again.
Check whatever uses your battery using BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock Detector.

I have tried to downgrade the OS image to 10.1.2, but failed to boot up.
I knew the boot-up failure was caused by incompatible user data.
But these userdata is too much important to me, I will never wipe them out.
Just hope this bug can be fixed in the next release.

Make a backup of your data... You should be able to keep all your data and still flash at will... The only data I lose is browser history and passwords... ?? I flash sometimes a couple times a day..
You could also uninstall the misbehaving app and install an alternative version ( hangouts for kitkat, for example, can be used for mms )

RemICS v1.6 mobile data issue

I have flashed with chinmay_7d's RemICS v1.6 . Yeak it looks cool, but I am facing an issue. When I turn on mobile data usage, the phone will turn off after some time (5-6 minutes) and it is not possible to turn on the phone again . It is needed to plug in it and turn on and then only it is working. In this condition, it is showing android is upgrading. There is no problem with using internet while plugged in. Anyone know how to fix this...? I like this ROM very much and so if it if fixed, then that will be cool.
are u coming from earlier versions of RemICS? followed all the installation steps?, go back to re-flash and tell us

Yes I am .Actually this issue was with 1.5.4 also. I have followed all the steps and cleared dalvik Cache and formatted cache partition. I have even done the factory reset and wiped all apps. I think the issue is because, it is reading the battery profile incorrectly or battery is actually drained when mobile data is turned on and that is triggering switch off thing.

Not sure if I'm right, but I think the practical solution to your problem would be to perform a flash from 0 up KPQ or KPU (which are the most stable to install this ROM), it may be the modem or the base ROM you used (for 3 months I have this ROM and never gave me any problems with KPQ)
Another thing, have you tried testing with Dhiru CM9 Base? to see if the same thing happens?

Have you tried to fix permissions on CWM? I got some problems with it too. After fixing and installing 1.5.4 again no problem. Now I'm on 1.6 and all is fine...
@ tavomt :
I think I can directly flash to stock rom.
Please help me
sI have tried fix permission and after that also this issue persists.
Also I have flashed with CM10 alpha from dhiru. This is also showing the same behavior. :crying:
Now flashed with RemICS JB . But the issue is still there. :crying::crying::crying:
I think I need to go back to REMICS 1.0, as there is no issue on it. But I desperately like to use this ROM. If anyone has got a fix, please post and help me.
Sometimes, when I take apps also , the phone gone off (Google Currents and Angry bird )

What is your baseband version? Mine is xle4 and have no such problem using remics(kernel bam & chaos) and rem-jb. Try using 2g only for a day, and see if the problem still persist.

The issue you are facing is exclusive to you. So i will not consider this a bug from my ROM.
I suggest you to follow correct flashing procedure. Wiping data before flashing a new ROM is a good practice.
It is possible that a third party app you are using is responsible.

Issue persists in Stock also
:crying::crying::crying:
The sad thing is that the problem persists after flashing stock ROM also. I have first flashed to XXKPE and then to XXKPU using Odin as given in the following link
http://blog.vigitalsolutions.com/2012/08/18/upgrade-samsung-galaxy-sl-i9003-to-cyanogenmod-9-cm9/
The issue is there in both the stock ROMS. Actually this issue was not present before. Now don't know what to do. I am only able to connect to internet in plugged in state.
Some times it turns off during call also .

Extreme Lag

Hey guys!
I own a 2 year old Nexus S GT-i9023
It is still a blazing phone and works well. But the only problem i face is EXTREME lag. Like when I flash a new ROM, it'll function perfectly well for like a day or so. But after a few days, apps take so long to load, I wanna push my finger into my eye. Frustrating. Is there any solution for it? Or should I just go back to stock 4.1.2? [If so could someone please direct me to the link? I tried searching didn't get it]
Thank you
PS: List of ROM's I've tried: CM10.1,CM10,Jellyshot,Jellyshot+marmite,Jellyshot+matr1x,Paranoidandroid,XenonHD.
I flash so much, if I don't change ROM three times a day I feel incomplete -.-
Currently on CM10. LAAAAAAAAAAAG!

I've also tried numerous 4.2.2 ROMs and never faced any EXTREME lag. What answer do you want?

Thanks a lot That seems to have served the cause. I can see my Phone faster already. Bloody facebook uses so much memory O.O
Hey guys, I'm getting some pretty killer lag as well, some times 5 or more seconds just to unlock the screen.
I have been playing around with quite a few different ROMs lately and haven't found a ROM that doesn't lag or doesn't drain the battery like crazy.
I'm kind of a noob when it comes to flashing ROMs and cellphones, so any help would be great. I usually just use ROM Manager to download and flash ROMs for me.
I also don't know if its maybe the apps I run? I use Greenify, Android Assistant, Easy Battery Saver to try to keep things fast and keep the battery going. Is it maybe because my battery saver causes wifi/data to come on when my screen wakes, making a bunch of apps want to update? I thought that might be it, but I don't know a way around it.
If anyone has any suggestions for ROM/Kernel combos that would be very good for extending battery life and still cutting lag to at least 1 or 2 seconds at its worst, would be much appreciated. Also, any suggestions for apps/settings/etc that could help would be great. I was thinking about going back to CM7, because my phone was pretty fast and lasted a while then, but I would kind of like to keep at least most of the features of 4.1.2.
Right now I have:
Baseband Version: I9020
Kernel Version: 3.0.68-Cyanogenmod-g33a9901 [email protected] #14
CM Version: Hellybean-20130311-crespo
Thanks in advance!
I was having the same issues until I wiped EVERYTHING! Just re-flashing ROM did nothing.
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
Then flash everything new again and format SD partition.
Also DO NOT restore a back up, reload all apps new. If you need app data, restore each separately from backup. This will help ensure that bad data is not reintroduced back into system.

Cm 11 m4 rebooted self and now all accounts missing

I am on cm 11 m4 stock kernel and its been crashing/rebooting on me occasionally. Earlier today it did so and now all my accounts (2xgmail, fb, twitter, cm)and text messages are gone. Other data appears to be intact such as XDA and untappd. Anyone able to provide any tips to help figure out what the hell is going on and possibly where my accounts all went?
Not at a PC now so I'll have to do some searching. The XDA app searching is not so good...

sounds like data corrupted after a crash. do you use fsync off? if it crashes often for you, id look for a new rom thats more stable than cm(no, cm isnt the epitome of stable).
Unless fsync is defaulted off in bone stock cm then no I don't.
Likely going to go try some others after this incident.

I've seen this happened many times before I don't think it's a ROM issue but more a recovery issue. try rebooting one or two more times to see if everything works as normal I notice sometimes the data partition wont mount correctly and hence the lack of accounts
Seen this with stock too update to twrp 2.7 and see if the reboots help to mount the ddata partition.
I've rebooted multiple times but it didn't help with bringing back what was lost. Tried fix perms also to no avail. Just updated to twrp 2.7 and did another fix perms but no change. Now that I've re-setup a few accounts those are staying just fine and new SMS messages since the problem are there. It's odd because it is acting like I wiped data but only for apps that have an account under the system settings menu.

Weird lag issue

I just picked up a bad esn sprint phone. Its pure stock, locked bootloader and all. I did a couple factory resets. And cant for the life of me figure out whats causing the lag. For a minute or two after boot its tolerable app drawer speed but whenever I open something (any app at all) it will hang anywhere from 5-30 seconds. Then once the app opens it will hang up again. Sometimes popping up the not responding wait or force close box. I hit wait and almost instantly its useable but laggy. Anyone have any ideas

No working pc at the moment. And why should you need to reflash the image on a factory unrooted device. It seems after i clear memory with clean master it speeds right up again for 15-20 minutes. It gets down to 11% available memory. I don't have really anything installed except xda and some tools. My hope for this phone is to try and learn how to port a ROM and want this phone to run smooth pure stock before i start so if it has a lag when i port i will know its my fault. And when flashing stock image can i downgrade without any issues

Factory images are one of the best sources to start afresh. Flashing a factory image (4.1.2 in this case) will wipe EVERYTHING and you will be able check if the lag is still present.
And since, you are working on porting a new ROM which I thing is > 4.1.2, you will not face any downgrading issues.

SM-N915FY reboots by itself 10 times per day

My SM-N915FY reboots appx. 10 times per day. It's a stock phone, no root so no custom roms or mods. I had this phone since 5.1.1 and the phone is now at 6.0.1 patch level 1 from June 1, 2016. All upgrades have been done automatically OTA by either Samsung or my provider. It's been rebooting ever since i have it.
Questions:
- Anybody else having this problem?
- Is there a way to find out what i causing the reboots?
- If i root my phone, would i be able to troubleshoot this better?
- In case i root my device, is there a list of Samsung bloatware that is know to be safe to remove? My aim is to remove everything that might cause these reboots.
Thanks,
Ton.

Hi...
Have you tried factory resetting the phone from recovery. This solves a host of problems usually accompanied with OTA updates...Ensure you make a back up of your data...before doing this.

Flashing a Custom ROM is easy. The tricky part is rooting and installing custom recovery. Since you are already on the latest Android version, you can disable any app that is causing battery drain..after rooting. Here is a useful guide...

Yeah, i tried to do that, but i keep having issues with a PIT file i apparently don't need. I am using Jodin (Mac here) and Jodin is asking me for a PIT file. I have a thread about that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-915f-fy-g-t3398339/post67596487#post67596487

BTW, after the factory reset the phone keeps rebooting itself.... Problem still exists.
Reboots
Well I am in the same boat with my edge. I am currently using it as a remote! I have booted into safe mode...nothing. Wiped the cache and hard reset it twice. I have never rooted a phone but it seems like that will be my only option. It doesn't seem that easy to do. How do you find the roms that work with your phone?

You can find ROMs in the Galaxy Note Edge section of this forum. I changed my Note Edge for a Galaxy J7 and it's faster, more modern and has a battery life 10 times longer than my Note Edge. Ah, and no reboots.
No more Note Edge for me.
