I am on cm 11 m4 stock kernel and its been crashing/rebooting on me occasionally. Earlier today it did so and now all my accounts (2xgmail, fb, twitter, cm)and text messages are gone. Other data appears to be intact such as XDA and untappd. Anyone able to provide any tips to help figure out what the hell is going on and possibly where my accounts all went?
Not at a PC now so I'll have to do some searching. The XDA app searching is not so good...

sounds like data corrupted after a crash. do you use fsync off? if it crashes often for you, id look for a new rom thats more stable than cm(no, cm isnt the epitome of stable).
Unless fsync is defaulted off in bone stock cm then no I don't.
Likely going to go try some others after this incident.

I've seen this happened many times before I don't think it's a ROM issue but more a recovery issue. try rebooting one or two more times to see if everything works as normal I notice sometimes the data partition wont mount correctly and hence the lack of accounts
Seen this with stock too update to twrp 2.7 and see if the reboots help to mount the ddata partition.
I've rebooted multiple times but it didn't help with bringing back what was lost. Tried fix perms also to no avail. Just updated to twrp 2.7 and did another fix perms but no change. Now that I've re-setup a few accounts those are staying just fine and new SMS messages since the problem are there. It's odd because it is acting like I wiped data but only for apps that have an account under the system settings menu.

Hey everyone,
As you can see, I'm new here, and did my best to search (both here on the forum and elsewhere) and tried to put this in the right place. If I did something wrong, if you could politely let me know, I'll fix it.
As far as the problem goes, a couple of days ago, my phone just started having strange issues. All of a sudden it's been telling me all sorts of things are crashing, and force closing them. It's also been randomly telling me there's no sim card, and wont let me make phone calls. I'm also not receiving incoming text messages.
It's a Samsung Captivate, running Cyanogenmod 7, Mod Version: 7.0.0-RCO-Captivate-Kang
I'd try and grab screen shots, but Shoot Me can't get root privileges.
EX: "The application Email (processcom.android.email) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
^I get a similar one for the messaging app, as well as facebook, but they flash too fast to read in their entirety.
Ex: Dolphin has Crashed
An unexpected error occured forcing the application to stop. Please help us fix this by sending your error data, all you have to do is hit report.
Here's what I tried to to:
I've tried restarting, pulling the battery, and a hard shut down and restart, but no dice. I figured I'd have to restore to the stock firmware, then tried to do this with the captivate toolbox, but no dice. I think it's because Cyanogenmod 7 makes everything think its a Nexus One. So what do I do? Should I try and update cyanogenmod? restore using Odin One Click?
This was my first flash, and it'd been working okay for a few months, but all of a sudden I got a ton of problems.
If you need more info, let me know.
Thanks Everyone.
Do a wipe data/factory reset in cwm. Do not restore anything and see if that helps.

You can always flash stock with Odin.

Using CWM worked, or it seemed to anyways. Thanks for the help guys.
Does anyone have any idea why it was doing that?
Sometimes our data with Applications and other programs may have a conflict with one rom to another.it just does.now I have found on cm7 that sometimes it can be just about anything.I just like to start fresh on any rom.

Please look around the forum before starting new threads. There are stickies in the Q&A subforum for ROM-specific questions, which is where this should have gone. Always search before posting a new thread.
Exactly what the subject says. I tried clearing all data in the market app but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I'm running stock 2.2.2 with an OC kernel. Any help would be appreciated.

What are the symptoms that you are experiencing when you try to download an app
Sent From My Stock G2x
It says "Your item will be downloaded," after which the download bar appears. It disappears after a second as if the download had never even begun.

Try deleting dalvik cache, fix permissions. Turn off the phone for few minutes, turn it back on.
Did this started to happen after flashing kernel?
Make sure you are in a good reception area as well.

I think it did happen after kernel flashing. Sounds like a good idea. I'll try that and if it doesn't work I'll try reflashing Google apparently. I've noticed authentication errors. Barring that it's back to stock. Thanks for the advice

Same thing happened to me.. I fixed permission from Rom manager then reboot.
Now its working fine.
Just tried that myself. It seems to be working again

Good to hear that is working

This same exact thing happened to me after changing kernels. I went back to stock and it was still happening. Four hours later everything was fine again. Weird.
Not only do you need to clear market data.. But make sure you clear 'download manager' data too in applications

The problem started up again and continued after flashing back to stock. Someone else said that in this thread. I'll try the download manager wipe suggestion too. Thanks for all the input. I'm on a wifi network with a strong signal so it's a stable connection... Aaaaaand... starting download... still starting download... still still starting... At least it's doing something. I'll check back in later. Thanks again!
If I wipe dalvik cache, cache, fix permissions, and reboot after letting the phone sit for 10 minutes I can download four or five apparently after which the problem returns. I've also noticed that Google talk can't seem to log in.

I am currently running Sky ICS and I am able to flash a new update just fine. After settling in and restoring all of my apps I will restart. After restarting my phone will just start freezing up. It seems the media scanning is delayed when restarted. I have already tried the Odin method. I even wiped EMMC. After starting completely fresh it is still having the issue. My phone is completely unusable (no texting because of media scanner not working correctly?, data doesn't work either). Anyone else having this issue?

So I've been messing with it and decided not to restore all my pictures. Restarting seems to work just fine now. Had about 300 pictures.
maybe try thederekjay's wipe script?

Already tried that. The only thing that seems to work is wiping EMMC and not restoring all my pictures. Basically just starting fresh.
I seem to have solved my problem though i'm not sure that it will help you. I restored back to a stock backup I have then installed sky ICS fresh and it has been stable for 3 days now.

I've seen a few posts with this problem, but i haven't been able to keep a widget since I got the phone (before and after root) . Multiple factory resets and they still disappear after reboot and now that I put Zeus on here the list of widgets is few. Other than the stock widgets nothing new will show up for me to add. They are installed on the internal sd, and i've tried reinstalling them with no effect. Any ideas?

Problem solved, please close thread. Must have been a random bug, reflashed Zeus and now it works fine.

This morning, when starting my commute to work, I noticed that the S5 wasn't connecting to my BT car stereo. I checked the phone and BT was off. I tapped the icon and it did the slight dimming for a few seconds and then went back to the off state. I opened up BT settings and tapped the slider to turn it on, got the message "Turning on bluetooth", but again, after a few seconds, it returned to the off position.
I'm running the stock ROM, rooted with the hotspot mod, and the restart menu mod.
I tried restarting, powering off and removing battery and restarting, restarting and hitting the BT settings as quickly as possible, but it still will not work. Permissions on /system/vendor/lib/libbt-vendor.so are rw-r--r--, so I don't think it has anything to do with permissions.
I read a thread regarding a different phone and ROM having this problem and they fixed it by flashing a different kernel. Any ideas before I take this route?
EDIT: Just to be sure, I rebooted into recovery and ran fix permissions. No change.
Does anyone have the stock kernel that I can try to flash or Odin? Thought I might give this a try before going with a modded kernel.
Thanks
As much as I hated to do it, a factory reset fixed the problem. Still don't know what actually caused the problem.

Are you going to reflash the mods you were using to see if the problem was the same? Also, you might be able to just make a backup of your system/data/recovery and flash it over so you don't have to factory reset.

I tried the backup, but it brought the problem back as well. Not sure if it was something in the system or days our apps. Still need to do some forensics.
If you flashed off of an SD card, sometimes you can get subtle corruptions? I thought I saw something about it before..
