So I would like anyone's opinion or else if they have experience that would be great too:
I currently have VZW service and am deploying in the near future. They have given us memos to use in order to break any contracts currently open before we deploy. My questions is would they honor the memo if I transfer my number to a different service, and then send them the memo so they will wave the cancellation fee. I know I'm deploying so I won't need my phone but it would be nice to take advantage of the deployment orders and get away from vzw if possible and maintain my number. Thoughts? Experiences?

It's a 50/50 I think. But I think they will allow it. Would give them a quick call if anything it won't hurt

I can't really answer your question, but just wanted to say Godspeed and come home safe! And thank you for your service!

Called vzw with my deployment orders and they won't release my number. They will cancel the service completely and wave the cancellation fee just not allow me to port my number. I wanted to put my number on my families plan while I'm gone so I don't have to worry about **** but vzw has other plans. Think I might still use deployment to get out of vzw while I can.

I just received a letter in the mail from AT&T stateing that they would be adding "mobile to any mobile calling" to my messaging plan at no additional cost. Now, my question is, since they are changing my plan without my consent, am I able to get out of my two year contract without playing the ETF? I apologize if this has already been discussed, just provide the link.

No they are giving you an additional service for free.

I figured I was wishful thinking...
Though if the Nexus Prime is everything is "supposed" to be, I might have to break contract for it...

I was wondering if there is a way too unlock this beast for free? Thanks

can't find an answer if rooting unlocks the phone to any operator?

If your referring to carrier unlock then no. a free way does not exist.

I called AT&T. Then I told them I wanted the subsidy unlock code for my phone. They told me no at first. Then I explained I travel a lot. They asked a few questions like: did you pay full price for the phone; do you travel overseas a lot, etc. I said I needed it unlocked when I travel overseas. Three days later I had the unlock code for free. I think it all depends on who you talk to at AT&T, and if you have a plan with some international features I guess.

So is there no way to unlock a i727 manually without purchasing a code?
There's got to be a way guys...anyone..?
Where do all these website get these codes to sell from?
ATT will provide you with an unlock code free like the previous posts, I think there's an amount of time you have to wait though. Not sure if its based on how long you've been a customer or how long you've had the phone.
Give them a call or get a hold of a live chat rep on their website, that's where I received my unlock code for my Xperia Play before I sold it.

What would be the best way to trade phones online. I'm currently in the stages of swapping a 4S for a Nexus but we don't have a way to swap without reassuring each other anything goes wrong. Any way to do this besides honor system? I'm in the East Coast while the other person is on the West Coast so travel is out of the question.
Cross ship if he doesn't provide tracking in a timely manner recall ur package. Write down the esn imei in case something goes bad. Exchange license copy

Hmmm great idea. Would getting Return Receipt help this process? Also I currently have my phone hooked up to my plan would he be able to put it on his plan or would I have to swap out my phone number to a dummy plan so they can hook it up.
Why don't you find someone willing to trade on Craigslist?

I'm starting to get tired of ATT, and I would like to switch providers. I only need unlimited data, and the ability to tether. I would also like to have the ability to keep my GSM phones active, but that's not a requirement. Does anybody have an idea who I could switch to?
No such provider exists. The closest thing you could get is the new Tmobile plan but it still has a soft limit (they throttle you) at 5GB.
I'm grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited plan...when they threaten to take it away I threaten to go elsewhere.... 3 phones on my plan (Family Plan) and all 3 unlimited...not bragging, but only bring it up hoping you can tell them you want unlimited or you are going to another company that offers it. Won't hurt to try...good luck!

AT&T throttles the "unlimited" users at 3GB. I know because this happens to me almost every month.
OP... I believe sprint is still unlimited . Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm thinking about going to straight talk

With the APN settings I use, I don't get throttled. Do a search, pretty simple settings. So many on here using it, surprised you're not. Great 4G towers in this area for AT&T, not so much for Sprint. But if Sprint is good in your area then I say make the switch! Seems like you already made up your mind anyways.

This company and their phones are totally f'd. On my 5th refurb cause of this damn service, stupid idiot customer service f'd my plan up and now Im getting charged everything international and no1 in my family knows any1 out of this country. This service totally blows, I feel bad for leaving T-Mobile and regret it BIG TIME! I would try T-Mobile, as their plans are a lot better.

I personally switched to Straight Talk.....I'm on YouTube, Netflix, and droidtv all the time. Haven't noticed any significant throttling as of yet. Of course they are paying to "rent" att towers so i wouldn't be shocked to see throttling happen.

Just found out that ISIS is not compatible with the Verizon Galaxy S3! How stupid can you be, their top selling phone next to the iPhone and you are starting off a service by not making a top phone compatible? Who ever is in charge of ISIS should be fired.
It is possible to do as TMobile has made it possible. Instead Verizon has terrible phones that basically no one buys available to the service.
Just disgusts me.

Welcome to Verizon. Enjoy your stay.

Did you go into Verizon and get a new SIM for it? I had to do that on AT&T and ISIS works for me now. (fully stock s3)

All you need is a new SIM.
i called the local verizon store here and they said no, the S3 will not work with the new sim yet. Are you guys hearing something different?
Yet another example of the stupidity, fragmentation and stuff that doesn't work in Android. The carriers decide how to squeeze every last dollar out of users, Google doesn't bother to enforce anything and only cares about Nexus, oem's ignore Android standards.
Just watch while next year Apple comes out with its own branded NFC system and everyone will fall over backwards trying to support it. Then we can whine and moan about how 'Android did it years ago' while Apple will get a patent, millions of users overnight, and become the standard.
Apparently the only Verizon phone to support it is the Droid Incredible 4G LTE.

This is what I thought. I also thought it unethical for Verizon to block Google wallet especially since their alternative isn't functional.

Yup. I'm really getting tired of Verizon being a dictatorship. THEY say what we get. Even though I plunk down $600+ for a new phone, or $200-$300 if it's an upgrade, (I can't use a phone for 2 years, I get bored) I don't get to use it the way I want to. Ridiculous.
To the people who aren't happy on Verizon, why not pay your eft or wait until your contract ends and leave to another carrier?
While you may see them as a dictatorship it was your decision to sign a contract with them. Research is key and living with your decisions, good or bad, is a part of life. We ultimately are to blame.

Well for some of us there is no good alternative to Verizon. We had AT&T since the first car phone came out. I had full service when I owned the original RAZR and we didn't even have 2g just regular whatever service. Then they upgraded the towers after Cingular was bought by AT&T and service got so bad that we had one bar inside but if we wanted to make a call we had to step outside on the porch. Then when 3g came we didn't have ANY service whatsoever in a mile radius. So for some of us we aren't there aren't any viable alternatives.
Plus Verizon has better service than any other provider I have ever been with, they are just dictators with their phones.

Nothing has been set in stone. A friend of mine explained the reason the S3 isn't working yet is that the firmware needs to be updated to use the newer sim system to allow ISIS to work (due to the LTE hardware that Samsung uses).
I expect this will be resolved shortly. As of right now ISIS is still in testing phases anyways. Verizon invested a lot of money in ISIS. It's in their best interest to get it working.

You don't think we know about this option?
The reason I don't leave? Because I've had every major carrier, and Verizon has the best, most reliable coverage.
Doesn't mean I'm still not tired of their BS.

I didn't say you couldn't be tired of their bs. I'm not always thrilled with them either, but that's true with almost all companies. But when people throw around words like "dictatorship" and the like, it's extreme to say the least.
All I'm saying is at the end of the day we choose what we choose. We take the good and the bad with it.
Complaining about stuff like this is comparable to me buying a Hummer and then complaining that it has bad mpg.
