AT&T Upgrade Question - General Questions and Answers

I just received a letter in the mail from AT&T stateing that they would be adding "mobile to any mobile calling" to my messaging plan at no additional cost. Now, my question is, since they are changing my plan without my consent, am I able to get out of my two year contract without playing the ETF? I apologize if this has already been discussed, just provide the link.

No they are giving you an additional service for free.

I figured I was wishful thinking...
Though if the Nexus Prime is everything is "supposed" to be, I might have to break contract for it...

question re: selling verizon s3

I'm getting two s3's today. I will be using one and selling one. I am going to use the cash to get my wife an iphone 5 when they come out. Anyway, is it ok to sell it without even opening it, or is the sim card inside somehow tied to my account?
Blasphemy. Why don't you just try to get your wife to use something good?
You can sell it as is, don't need to open it, but why didn't you wait for the iPhone 5 to come out to get it in contract instead? But yeah you can sell it for a good price right now

I think she is crazy, but hey, each to their own. Had to buy now to get the unlimited data. Getting $600 for it, can't hope to get much more than that.
yep, in the same boat about preordering an extra s3 to save up for the iphone 5.
feel bad for those who didn't think ahead and grab this before unlimited contract renewals disappeared.
SIM isn't tied to your account, but the consensus is you have to open it and activate it first before selling - otherwise you don't complete the 2yr agreement you signed on for when you got it subsidized.
Yes, I had to activate then switch back to the thunderbolt. We did the exchange in the Verizon store to make it easy.

Any wireless plans that give you truly unlimited data, tethering included

I'm starting to get tired of ATT, and I would like to switch providers. I only need unlimited data, and the ability to tether. I would also like to have the ability to keep my GSM phones active, but that's not a requirement. Does anybody have an idea who I could switch to?
No such provider exists. The closest thing you could get is the new Tmobile plan but it still has a soft limit (they throttle you) at 5GB.
I'm grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited plan...when they threaten to take it away I threaten to go elsewhere.... 3 phones on my plan (Family Plan) and all 3 unlimited...not bragging, but only bring it up hoping you can tell them you want unlimited or you are going to another company that offers it. Won't hurt to try...good luck!

AT&T throttles the "unlimited" users at 3GB. I know because this happens to me almost every month.
OP... I believe sprint is still unlimited . Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm thinking about going to straight talk

With the APN settings I use, I don't get throttled. Do a search, pretty simple settings. So many on here using it, surprised you're not. Great 4G towers in this area for AT&T, not so much for Sprint. But if Sprint is good in your area then I say make the switch! Seems like you already made up your mind anyways.

I've tried the single APN settings. Still get throttled. The thread I read, everyone was saying there was no work around getting throttled... :-/

This company and their phones are totally f'd. On my 5th refurb cause of this damn service, stupid idiot customer service f'd my plan up and now Im getting charged everything international and no1 in my family knows any1 out of this country. This service totally blows, I feel bad for leaving T-Mobile and regret it BIG TIME! I would try T-Mobile, as their plans are a lot better.

I personally switched to Straight Talk.....I'm on YouTube, Netflix, and droidtv all the time. Haven't noticed any significant throttling as of yet. Of course they are paying to "rent" att towers so i wouldn't be shocked to see throttling happen.

Unlimited Verizon Data plan anyone???

I hope that I'm not out of line posting this in the "general" forum. But I am getting ready to leave verizon so i can get the nexus 4 (and save a little cash on the monthly bills) and I really hate to see these two unlimited data plans i worked so hard to take advantage of and keep for so long just go to waste. Ive still got a little over a year left on the current plan and it has two lines on it, both have the unlimited 29.99 4g data added to them. I would feel silly just letting them go to waste if someone would be interested in assuming the remainder of the contract term. PM me if you happen to be interested. If i'm out of line in posting this then feel free to delete it with my apologies in mind. Also, I havent looked into separating the Lines yet in you only want one but I can investigate the possiblilty if you only need one...
Also go to androidcentral and androidforums. Plenty of people looking for unlimited data

Ya partner you can't be trying to sell it here. I would guess giving it away... Assuming that's what the op is doing is still against the rules, but selling definitely is.

I assumed the OP was selling. After re reading it perhaps not, but i was only making a joke. I suppose I should have followed my statement with the "lol" that I see used in every other post. To clarify, I am not selling my phone lines.

sooo glad I've kept my unlimited data...
Didn't even occur to me that you could transfer the account/plan to another...
me too, I started off with unlimited data then verizon changed midstream and if one wanted to upgrade the Ph , welp,, i was crap ooutta luck.. wife has a simple cell that allows her to call and reciave calls and thats all she wants,, i fell like verizon got the Gold Mine and i got the SHAFT.. i dont have any data share with her. how dumb does verizon think all of are.. Promise us 1 thing and then change.. of course VZW told me if i had a device already Pd for i could use the unlimited plan. i wonder what they do if i buy out my contract.. would i have to turn my GS3 in or keep it.. maybe it would be considered bought n paid for ? just blowin off some frustration men, so cut me some slack,,
I agree
I upgraded my phone right before Verizon forced people over the Share Everything plan, and I know they must hate me...lol

If you pay the ETF, you keep your phone...
Only time I ever knew this to be different from anyone was with ATT back in the day when they were exclusive with the iPhone they used to pull some crap trying to take the iPhone back even if you paid the ETF if you cancelled in the first...3 months maybe? Been a while so I don't remember for sure.

I'm not sure how it happened, but when I upgraded through Verizon to my S3 from my DX back in August someone didn't switch me off of my unlimited data. Had it ever since. Think I just got extremely lucky.

Unlimited data guy here. I just upgrade on my other lines to keep it. Really getting sick of getting bent over by Verizon though, so may switch to T-Mobile soon. So, you may see one of these from me here soon....

Hey wolf not sure it's true but heard T-Mobile might have a plan where you get a new phone and just pay monthly on it with your bill/2 year plan of course I think $20a month extra, have you heard if this?

Didn't hear that exactly, but I know T-Mo is making some moves.
I just want the ability to rock any phone that is announced at CES. You can't do that on CDMA proprietary technology....

Solavei wireless

What are your thoughts on this company? Both as a user, or a reseller?
The info I gather is you get unlimited everything, with a 4gb data cap on T-Mobile, for $49.99 a month. That's $10 less than the T-Mobile plan which is only 2gb cap. And $5 more than straight talk which throttles you if you stream anything. Thoughts?

Uh it's a pyramid scheme. While its OK and all, they are definitely making a lot of money in the process. If support is good then they should be good.

There are several users claiming to be on their service, without being in their mlm. Lots of interesting features allowed over other tmo mvno. But no recent "deals". Activation, sim, shipping and such start to add up. Coming close to tmo's latest $70 unlimited noncontract plan. I'd be willing to check the service out if they offered the same deal as before of the end of last year.
Mlm? Also there's no activation anymore it's just $49 a month now.

Multi Level Marketing
Anyways on Solavei, it is an interesting MVNO, much due to the fact it has free roaming and conditional call forwarding. Both postpaid features, with Solavei the only exception. They also state the data (4gb) at which they throttle, which is a trustworthy action to the consumers unlike ST. If you can actually refer people well, this has the potential to be an incredibly cheap or even free plan.

Bumping this thread up, I joined as a customer as well as in sales, it's legit for sure, met with my sponsor and all, so far I love this whole idea and evening about this. The two selling points for me was data size with the rest of the features being unlimited, and having not just T-Mobile, but also having AT&T available as needed.
AND I got a completely mint s3 for $300.

Question about deployment orders/service cancellation.

So I would like anyone's opinion or else if they have experience that would be great too:
I currently have VZW service and am deploying in the near future. They have given us memos to use in order to break any contracts currently open before we deploy. My questions is would they honor the memo if I transfer my number to a different service, and then send them the memo so they will wave the cancellation fee. I know I'm deploying so I won't need my phone but it would be nice to take advantage of the deployment orders and get away from vzw if possible and maintain my number. Thoughts? Experiences?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
It's a 50/50 I think. But I think they will allow it. Would give them a quick call if anything it won't hurt
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I can't really answer your question, but just wanted to say Godspeed and come home safe! And thank you for your service!
Sent from my SCH-I535
Called vzw with my deployment orders and they won't release my number. They will cancel the service completely and wave the cancellation fee just not allow me to port my number. I wanted to put my number on my families plan while I'm gone so I don't have to worry about **** but vzw has other plans. Think I might still use deployment to get out of vzw while I can.
