I'm starting to get tired of ATT, and I would like to switch providers. I only need unlimited data, and the ability to tether. I would also like to have the ability to keep my GSM phones active, but that's not a requirement. Does anybody have an idea who I could switch to?
No such provider exists. The closest thing you could get is the new Tmobile plan but it still has a soft limit (they throttle you) at 5GB.
I'm grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited plan...when they threaten to take it away I threaten to go elsewhere.... 3 phones on my plan (Family Plan) and all 3 unlimited...not bragging, but only bring it up hoping you can tell them you want unlimited or you are going to another company that offers it. Won't hurt to try...good luck!

AT&T throttles the "unlimited" users at 3GB. I know because this happens to me almost every month.

With the APN settings I use, I don't get throttled. Do a search, pretty simple settings. So many on here using it, surprised you're not. Great 4G towers in this area for AT&T, not so much for Sprint. But if Sprint is good in your area then I say make the switch! Seems like you already made up your mind anyways.

This service totally blows, I feel bad for leaving T-Mobile and regret it BIG TIME! I would try T-Mobile, as their plans are a lot better.

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with any tweaks to beat this damn 60kbps throttle from tmobile. I have tried the patch that was created for the froyo roms but it didn't work for me. Any information would be greatly appreciated please PM me. Its best the information isn't posted publicly due to the brown nosing tmobile turds that troll these forums. Thanks in advance.

There is no way around the cap. It is done of T-Mobiles servers and linked to your SIM card. Many people have tried to get around it without any luck.

I can dig what you're saying but I'd like to think of it as being resourceful rather than cheap. After all it is android, several exploits and loopholes exist for other devices already. Ill keep fishing and maybe I can figure it out. Maybe IP/MAC spoofing would work to avoid the asshats at T-Mobile.

thats what i did lol theres your throttle fix.
It's not a work-around to the T-Mobile cap exactly. But by fine tuning when and how your installed apps use data, can keep you under the cap. For example instead of streaming podcast with Mediafly I installed DogCatcher. I set the download permissions for the application to only update when connected to WiFi and plugged in.
That alone has cut my data usage in half. Fine tuning other settings in apps like email, facebook and twitter have also cut down my data usage. I went from always bumping the data cap to moving to the next lowest data rate plan.
Something to consider!

im not being cheap at all!! but is it possible i can up to the 10GB/ month? i just started a 2 yr contract 2 months ago and i get capped everymonth so far to 56k speeds...i pay 100 dollars a month and i think thats alot already! thats no fun when i dont get access to wifi everywhete like most of you.
If you change your phone number & get a new SIM chip it resets yer data usage. Setup google voice, get 5GIG plan - wait 2 weeks & spend $15 to have phone number changed and get another 5Gig. Two more weeks, billing cycle starts over, another 5GIG. Wait 2 more weeks and change phone number again - 5 more gig. Repeat every month. If you use google voice then everyone will still have your phone number. I think to get the 10gig plan it's 30 bucks so this saves you 15 bucks a month. Of course its also a huge pain in the ass for 15 bucks.
Lol that's actually pretty damn clever. A huge undertaking, but still clever. Well done.

The question I have, though, is if using a non-AT&T radio could stop the ability to be throttled. Anyone care to chime in?
The throttling isn't done on the device, it's done on their end.

Here come the "I pay for unlimited" posts.
If it doesn't affect me I don't care. I use maybe 3 gigs a month..
If it adversely affects me then It will give me reasons to look else where when I get to re-up again.

So unlimited really isn't unlimited is that what your saying? I just signed up with sprint 2 weeks ago and I am up to 12 gig as of tonight so I guess I should lay low for a bit then. I'm not spreading bad information. Go to your local (corporate) Sprint store and ask for a hard copy of your contract. It states 5GB on Sprint network, 300MB roaming. The compliance department will only get involved if your line is flagged. Only 2 ways I'm aware of to get flagged, #1 roam excessively (voice, data, or both) for 3 consecutive months, #2 use excessive Sprint bandwidth on a congested tower, or area for 3 consecutive months.
Your bandwidth cap DOES NOT change with the tethering add-on; you are just notified without a hard copy of the existing caps.
It's not Sprint actually supplying DATA services to the towers, but another ISP that sells bandwidth to Sprint. I know that only because I've had to upgrade some hardware at the Notre Dame Campus Sprint antennas, and the internet connection was supplied by Comcast.

It'll be unlimited data as long as there's no "problem" with data where you are, but no guarantee that it'll be at any specific speed. No carrier offers any speed guarantee (it's "up to X speed") or 24/7/365 availability (if the tower has a problem, or if they cut you off, you get "the lie of he day").

Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!
