Att go phona data question?// - General Questions and Answers

So I'm getting a Samsung galaxy s 2 skyrocket and I'm gonna get the prepaid 50 dollar a month everything unlimited for it. My question is the data. Will it truly be unlimited data on att's 3g speed with no slowing down after you reach a certain mb? Any more tips anybody would like to share would be appreciated. Thanks.

It'll be unlimited data as long as there's no "problem" with data where you are, but no guarantee that it'll be at any specific speed. No carrier offers any speed guarantee (it's "up to X speed") or 24/7/365 availability (if the tower has a problem, or if they cut you off, you get "the lie of he day").

Ahhhh I see. I'm I'm Atlanta ga, so I'm wondering if there will be any 4g LTE coverage in this area. I should check on there website. Thanks for the info man

Anyone using Simple Mobile?

Just curious. They have nice plans ($40 everything unlimited 3G speeds and $60 everything unlimited 4G speeds) which run on T-Mobiles network.
Any you guys have it here with the Sensation? If so, how is the experience? Same as with T-Mobile? Better? Worse?
I'm getting it within the next few weeks my mom has it and it's fast here in Chicago and it saves alot of money.

Yeah. The way I see it, I'm going to be paying $40 for the same service (Don't really need the "4G") and will be saving a whole **** load of money a month. Gonna pay both of my ETFs and see how it goes
Too good to be true...
Looks like SimpleMobile's "3G" speed is really 2G / Edge.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1734250-New-40.00-3G-plan-SLOW-3G-download-speed!!/page1
If anyone does decide to go with Simple, I suggest you buy your sim on Ebay for a .99 vs. the 12.99 on their website....
Their 4G speeds are really TMo's 3G speed.
Damn marketing / false advertising.
Ur better of getting in a prepaid from tmobile 70 bucks for everything unlimited and 5 gb of 4g speeds (3.5g). Simple only gives u 1 gb of 4g speed and then it gets capped

Is the nexus 4g unlimited on the 3g network

Just wondering if its unlimited or capped at 5gb
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Unlimited, the same as every other smartphone on Sprint. The only limit is on data used while roaming.

Yes and no. You have unlimited data yes... but if you pass 5GB of Sprint 4G or in-network 3G for 3 consecutive months, you'll get a call from the compliance department.

So unlimited really isn't unlimited is that what your saying? I just signed up with sprint 2 weeks ago and I am up to 12 gig as of tonight so I guess I should lay low for a bit then. The carriers are making money big time with this bandwidth crap. I use 2 terabite a month on my servers and it cost me 15.00 so I have no idea what all this fuss is about. Thanks for the tip though...

NO you wont. Stop spreading bad information. The only way to get a call or letter from sprint is excessive roaming. Tethering is limited to 5gb. Or torrenting.

Its unlimited. The only limits are on broadband cards and for the tethering option, IF you pay for that.
I've used no less than 10gb per month since I signed up and there haven't been any calls from anyone.

I'm not spreading bad information. Go to your local (corporate) Sprint store and ask for a hard copy of your contract. It states 5GB on Sprint network, 300MB roaming. The compliance department will only get involved if your line is flagged. Only 2 ways I'm aware of to get flagged, #1 roam excessively (voice, data, or both) for 3 consecutive months, #2 use excessive Sprint bandwidth on a congested tower, or area for 3 consecutive months.
Your bandwidth cap DOES NOT change with the tethering add-on; you are just notified without a hard copy of the existing caps.
It's not Sprint actually supplying DATA services to the towers, but another ISP that sells bandwidth to Sprint. I know that only because I've had to upgrade some hardware at the Notre Dame Campus Sprint antennas, and the internet connection was supplied by Comcast.

We can thank people like you for us losing the Sprint premier program and someday unlimited data. 32gb of usage is bull****. You are obviously tethering and are not paying for that feature and eventually we will all lose unlimited.

Don't paint me a 'bad guy' cause I'm using the services I'm offered.
It's not people like me that are keeping sprint in the red and thus forcing them to cut services; it's more their poor management. So if you're gonna get at me with nothing more than accusations that I'm 'obviously tethering', you might as well start a thread and call out everyone ...

32GB is a bit excessive, but this Guy may not have a computer/internet at home so he uses his phone. Literally 2GB can be burned in a day easily, just using it moderately. (ie, how Sprint, VZW, AT&T, etc, portray in their ads)

Data has always been capped. Not to a point where they limit/charge, but if you look at the hard copy (full paper printed copy) it says you have 5GB as stated in the acceptable use policy portion of the contract. Look it up at Sprint.com or a Sprint store.

Thanks. Just read it start to finish and there is still no cap.
However, they can terminate service for dozens of ridiculous reasons. One reason is rooting.

Any wireless plans that give you truly unlimited data, tethering included

I'm starting to get tired of ATT, and I would like to switch providers. I only need unlimited data, and the ability to tether. I would also like to have the ability to keep my GSM phones active, but that's not a requirement. Does anybody have an idea who I could switch to?
No such provider exists. The closest thing you could get is the new Tmobile plan but it still has a soft limit (they throttle you) at 5GB.
I'm grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited plan...when they threaten to take it away I threaten to go elsewhere.... 3 phones on my plan (Family Plan) and all 3 unlimited...not bragging, but only bring it up hoping you can tell them you want unlimited or you are going to another company that offers it. Won't hurt to try...good luck!

AT&T throttles the "unlimited" users at 3GB. I know because this happens to me almost every month.

With the APN settings I use, I don't get throttled. Do a search, pretty simple settings. So many on here using it, surprised you're not. Great 4G towers in this area for AT&T, not so much for Sprint. But if Sprint is good in your area then I say make the switch! Seems like you already made up your mind anyways.

I think they are expanding in Syracuse, not rolling it out. I am pretty sure they already have 4G. I am about 70 miles south of Syracuse and I am not expecting anything different by us. I am pretty sure that 4G has much shorter range so changes further away don't really impact surrounding areas.

Well according to the article in the OP, Syracuse is listed under the category of "expand the existing 4G LTE"...take that for what it is worth I guess.
I don't see what the fuss is about unless your on a grandfathered unlimited plan since with the new shared plans, Verizon lets you surf the web and check your email, anything else will drain your mbs for each month. Its totally bassakwards, they put up more towers rolling out 4GLTE, but with their new limitations, 4G speed is kind of irrelivent if you hardly get the chance to use it IMO.

Regardless of how fast you use your GB limit (if you have one), I think most people would prefer faster speeds.

I have a year left on my unlimited contract with verizon if they ever switch me to a limited data plan ill leave. do they care maybe not but i am not gonna watch a youtube video then run to see where my data limit is on a damn widget for $29.99 a month data. its insane to me that people are willing to do this.
i dont use alot of data maybe 4gb a month my moms line uses about 2gb were both unlimited but its the idea that we would have to worry about how much data were using when i pay more for my phones internet then i do on my homes internet i shouldn't have to think about it. its my account with 3 lines i pay for my moms line fyi.

I also read somewhere that it's unlimited users on 3G phones that get throttled and have issues. Phones with 4G data don't get throttled or taken notice by Verizon. A quick Google search can show some talk supporting the statement, so that's something to think about!

Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!
