Suckness if true

I'm no longer under contract, but I'll ride the unlimited data for the time being.

FML .
The question I have, though, is if using a non-AT&T radio could stop the ability to be throttled. Anyone care to chime in?

The throttling isn't done on the device, it's done on their end.
EDIT: ATT FTL if this is true.

After an extensive call with att, they said this will NOT be happening.

I stayed with unlimited because friends told me the 2g plan always went over. Not fair I gotta suffer and pay more.

Yeah the same kind of service when I asked about tethering thru WiFi hotspot or usb, they said it was ok. You really think they have a clue? I've worked at ATT and Sprint, they only say the stuff they know, and the stuff they don't know,well...kinda a hush hush. I'll guarantee it will happen.

I don't discount your having worked for them and what you experienced, but if I have it in writing, it ain't happenin to me.

It's all a money grab.
Combine cellular data limits and AT&T's home DSL data limits along with Netflix (and every other provider) trying to force us into using streaming media and VoIP, and we get screwed.

The top 5% feel the pain it looks like. I suppose if you are using 10+ gigs a month I am not sure I feel for ya. Personally I have never gone over 5 but I also have internet service at Home.
Here come the "I pay for unlimited" posts.

If it doesn't affect me I don't care. I use maybe 3 gigs a month..
If it adversely affects me then It will give me reasons to look else where when I get to re-up again.
Anyone know if this is enough of a change to the plan you signed up for to allow canceling the account?

Lmao WiFi and using maybe 4gigs works for me.imo

Read about the limit
I read on a post yesterday (can't find it now) that the expected threshold for throttling will be somewhere in the vicinity of 50gb a month. In my mind, reasonable.

Holy crap. My biggest month was 16 and I thought that was a lot lol

Tiered Data for HTC THUNDERBOLT

WOW ZDNET is reporting that Thunderbolt will be first phone with Tiered data PLANS WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is Horrible
This launch is turning into one huge joke. Could they have possibly screwed this up any more?
Proof?
The 4g is tiered for sure so I don't care
The 3g is throttled after 5 gb

Its not 100% that i will ever be ble to take a Sh&t again but odds are I will ... lolol
Makes sense if its only 4g, they just barley changed it so that its throttled server side
If they become ATT and throttle all data then screw Verizon

Nor do I trust CSR's and their wealth of information, or lack there of if you will.
i agree with everyone jumping to conclusions way too fast just because some random unnamed person said that the phone will be released on a certain date or some other rumor.
as for the "tiered" data i really hope verizon doesn't implement anything like at&t's data plans and i hope there will still be an option for unlimited i being stuck to a number doesn't work for me lol
Lol I think its funny.. I can't think of anything like this haha.. people going nutts for a phone I not once heard Verizon say what day they was releasing it .. id lmao if they decided to skip it haha
I read the tiered is supposed to bring in more customers who don't use much data
As in a tiered plan to make the phone cheaper but retaining the unlimited plan, wherever you got your source they only quoted a single sentence, not the whole announcement. They also announced that the TB is coming soon if that even matters anymore

Is there a plan or option (on any carrier) that allows for data via wifi only? That way you wouldn't be using your carriers data bandwidth you would be using your home/work or Starbucks network.

That sounds like a lot of work. I was talking to an AT&T rep the other day about how I could get my unlimited data plan back, he said,
"Call customer service, explain to them how you had the unlimited plan before & since switching to the 2GB plan it just isn't working out. When they tell you it can't be done tell them you'll have to cancel & go with another carrier. Just TRY it. That's all I'm gonna say."
So I'm going to give that a shot, hopefully they don't give me to much trouble.
I hope this works for me

I understand your point of view but not everyone had an unlimited data plan to begin with. I personally didn't and bought the captivate in September so I wasn't given the option. I tried calling back in Oct/Nov to try to talk a representative into giving me the unlimited plan but had no success. Another thing to consider is you may not be given back the plan no matter how much you complain/threaten to move to verizon. This is something that is known to work for the time being so I don't see why it's a big deal.
I had an unlimited plan before I got my Captivate and they told me I had to switch to the 2 gig plan because my previous one wouldn't work with smart phones. So my question is, did I get screwed and if so is it possible to call customer service and switch back.

I also read somewhere that it's unlimited users on 3G phones that get throttled and have issues. Phones with 4G data don't get throttled or taken notice by Verizon. A quick Google search can show some talk supporting the statement, so that's something to think about!

a close friend of mine uses 60-80 per month streaming HD video (netflix, nhl gamecenter, nfl games, etc) and has never heard anything. Just another point of data for context
Oh yeah lol. I'm thinking about canceling my cable internet because I don't get the speeds advertised. Sad my phone has a better and more consistent connection than my cable internet.

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!

im with you... I've tried everything imaginable... at least when verizon had unlimited, it was truly unlimited. I'll never forget a couple years ago when 3G/LTE went down in the Savanahh, GA area when I was stationed at Fort Stewart, I called Verizon and said "Im not getting data, do you throttle services?" Rep said "We shouldn't unless you're in the top 5% of subscribers, let me check your account"... clickety click click click of the keyboard "...oh my. I have to say, that is the highest useage I've ever personally seen. You're at 33 GB of LTE used.". I was only 12 days into my billing period at the time
There is a company called telcel America I used them for 4 months they had unlimited service for 45 a month no throttling whatsoever to the best of my knowledge they ran on on tmobiles network I used 5 gig a month 10 MBS down 2 up 2 weeks ago they stopped but they still have the $60 plan that you get unlimited talking to mexico I think sorry do the badly written post in a rush will update later

That's what I like about the $30 Monthly4G plan, I haven't hit the 5gb soft cap yet. And vonage mobile works great for extra free minutes.
I used to have the T-Mobile Unlimited 3G plan when I had a BlackBerry, and I would regularly break 20-30GB data on it when I was still going to school and still be able to maintain 3G speeds.
When I upgraded to the Blaze I was forced to switch to their new "Unlimited" plan, which seems to choke the speeds down around 5-6GB. Although this month I'm already around 7GB and I still pull in decent H+ speeds between 8 and 12Mbps, so maybe they only restrict the speeds during peak hours or something.
I have been doing research(ugh. feels like school lol) and I stumbled upon this. Since I've been using the UVMC Radio from the Hercules I think this should work. Note. It says to do these methods before getting throttled. I don't know if it works because I am getting throttled already..

Its already illegal to advertise falsely, but everyone gets around it with fine print. You won;t change that. Too many lawyers need business.

At some point the consumer needs to read and research what they are getting into. We cant control what services a company is selling. Only choose to buy it or not.

This is the best thing we can do, if you don't like it, don;t buy it. There are other options out there for example Spint...., If Verizon starts losing customers in droves, that;s the only message they care about.

Yeap, hit 'em where it hurts. The only thing that will have any impact !
I have very fast internet through the cable company so keeping unlimited wasn't as important as getting unlimited calling. I use a lot of minutes and my fiance is a texting fanatic. Saved a ton of money with the share plan.

Sprint has been known to give you the boot for extreme data usage on their "truly unlimited" data plan. Maybe they have eased up since I left but if you search some on xda you can find the horror stories.

In regards to Sprint, I'm sure somewhere in their "contract" there are provisions that allow them to boot "abuse" of their "unlimited" provisions. It only makes sense, as if every user started downloading movies, etc. continuously their network would come to a stretching halt.
In regards to others that offer unlimited, they don't say at what speed. So, if you're usage is so hi they throttle you, you're still getting unlimited, just not at their highest speed. So, while it's a PR nightmare, it's not a legal issue.
With the proliferation of free WiFi almost everywhere, to me anyway, it's a non issue.

Signed.
I gave up my unlimited last year when the Share Everything plan came out. Never used more than a gig in the past five years.
