I got into a motorcycle accident and ended up cracking my screen on my inspire. I can still see everything but the glass is cracked. Is there any services where I can get it replaced? Thanks.

Send it to HTC. $150 is what I hear.
Check with your insurance company and add it to the claim they may or may not cover it but at least it will go against your deductible.
Do you have phone insurance with ATT its like a 120 deductible to get a new one. If not, from what I have been told its 150 to referb your phone through HTC

So there isn't like an outside service?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Yes, just Google cell phone repair and find a place your comfortable with as always check reviews on there service, I would stay away from fleebay. Your handset insurance won't cover it but try your auto insurance on personal items or wasn't a claimable accident?

the insurance company said all personal items will not be covered if they are not properly tied down to the motorcycle or secured. apperently my phone being in my backpack isnt "properly secured"
Aren't there any local cellphone shops around where you live? Here we got some small shops that can do that kind of repair for cheaper than what you can find online or e bay. Or if you're really into fixing stuff just get the digitizer on e bay and do it yourself, it isn't as hard as it looks.

Just google 'cell phone repair' in your area. I know a few in my area that do them on average from $50-$80 for a screen change.

For all those who worry about a bricked device with rooting, fear no more.......
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/16/verizon-begins-charging-full-price
I received this link from my buddy who works internally for Verizon this morning, after i asked him about this two weeks ago as some rumors were floating around saying VZW would charge you full price if you rooted and needed a replacement
This is in no way a guaranty that you will not be charged, any time you root your device you void your warranty blah blah blah

VZW may not check, but HTC probably will. HTC may be "root friendly" but they don't want bad press about their products, either. If HTC finds evidence of root, there is nothing to stop them from reporting that to VZW, who will likely charge you full retail price for the reburbished phone they sent you as a replacement.

Nope, not correct sir, but I see what your thinking, once the device passes the 3 checks, it gets sent off to be broken down for refurb device parts

Verizon might not, but their contracted refurb centers do.

Doesn't matter, cause the refurb centers can't charge you as well as there is no path for them to turn around and tell VZW that a device was rooted, once the receiving warehouse verifies the meid and the 3 physical checks its sent off to the refurb center to be taken apart, I worked for Big red for 6 years, once it leaves the receiving warehouse it's gone, so even if they (refurb center) did it wouldnt matter

It still amazes me that people think businesses won't protect themselves from scammers. They may not make it a priority to catch every single one, but spot checks will happen. It would be a really horrible business practice to allow everyone to scam you out of your own product.
Link all the articles you want, but when they show their numbers for Quarter/Year, they'll take note on how much money was lost to "defective" merchandise. If that number is abnormally high...your ass will be grass when they start investigating the new returns.

I'm guessing it depends on where it goes. Regardless, i'll pay the insurance just in case.
Kind of like car insurance, haven't used it in 10+ years, but still carry it.

I dunno about that I got mine replaced, but then again the screen was water logged so perhaps there wasn't a way to check without powering on screen. I've known many people who have turned in rooted phones and never had a problem...

1.4 million customers and of that 260,000 thunderbolts.....of that 25,000 to 50,000 rooted, and that's a liberal number it's probably less, I'm no math major but I doubt there will be any major impact on "defective" merch and Verizon has an internal sop with equipment and issues, if the "defective" device replacements hits a certain %, the device moves to "end of life" and they stop carrying it, it's that simple, they're not going to investigate anything

Maybe Verizon wont, but somewhere along the line someone will know.
Every time you do this you are signing a petition begging carriers and manufacturers to lock down their devices and persecute the root community.

You can't talk sense to these people, they just keep going and going and complain later when the companies institute crazy rules and pricing. It's illegal, plain and simple, but you'll never convince them of anything.

I agree, carnage, but we must still try. Unfortunately, too many people think only of short term selfish benefit, and not about long-term consequences for the whole community.

not to add fuel to the fire but it is not illegal to root your phone.. and aren't you yourself falling into the category of "people" that refuse to believe what others have to say as true?

Yeah if you bought one flat out, like off contract and everything. That wouldn't be a problem. And I suppose if you got caught trying to report a lost phone to get another one, the worst they can do is charge you for the phone?

Ok i made a loss claim on my sgs4g on tmobile after three days of not having a phone and wondering where the hell it was. That said, i have since recieved my insurance replacement. Today I was cleaning out my car (a weekly ritual) and found it beneath the passenger seat. My question is simply what do i do with it? It is a gsm phone so no blacklisted esn, so can i sell it or give it to a less fortunate friend to use? What are my options?

You should ring your insurance company and ask them what to do. They may say to just forget it, but they may want you to send it back to your provider. Either way you've done the right thing so there's no comeback. After all, you did get a replacement so they played their part. Now it's your turn
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Just because it's a GSM phone doesn't mean it can't be blacklisted.
T-Mobile will blacklist the IMEI if the device is reported as lost or stolen.
As Archer has suggested, just phone up your insurance company and ask them, however, don't expect the phone to work for very long.
I had unlocked it, does that matter? btw im not sending it back.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
If I were you I'd give it to a friend or use myself , try to change imei if possible. ( No idea how )
Some people really get lucky , I damn with I had sgs just lying around.

Sim unlocking is purely allowing the device to accept sims from another network.
IMEI changing is certainly illegal in the UK and I'm pretty sure it is in the US and Canada.
Sent from my GT-P6200 using Tapatalk
Sell it to someone overseas, these go for 150-165 in xda marketplace, so a blacklisted one for 50-80 is fair enough.. have a small party with the cash and forget about it!!
Pm me because I'm overseas

Was looking for this all morning and couldn't find any information, so I thought I'd ask around here. I just got a new job recently where I'll be able to get a free phone and sign up for dealer plans with any of the major carriers. Where I'm at at&t would be my best bet service wise but I was curious if you have to do the same standard credit check and deposit as normal if you're on a dealer plan. I've worked in an at&t call center before and know how ridiculous they get.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not that I am aware of. I didnt have to do any of that for my dealer plan with ATT but that was years ago so not sure if the policy had changed.
Cool. Would be awesome to set up without some crazy deposit. Hope that's still the case. Should find out for sure in a month or so.
