I have a Problem with my new N5, the battery seems to discharge to fast! Its my 4th cycle and I never reached more than 2h of screen time.
What I try to solve the problem:
- Factory reset
- Custom Kernel (faux)
- completely discharge and charge
I would try to find out wheter there are wakelocks but bbs does not worn with 4.4
The settings where I made the screens:
Location service: disabled
2g only!
Half of the time she display was at lowest brightness!

Hmm that doesn't seem right. You have some excessive drain going on. Could be faulty battery.

Do you have a tip for me whether I have to call or send an email? An what I should say as explanation?

I'm having same issues as OP. I tried installing Franco Kernel, Faux Kernel, and reverting back to stock image. No difference between them
small battery
I sell my LG G2 for the nexus 5 and i really dont understand, why lg dont use the great 3000mh battery.
The g2 with all features on goes well about 2 and a half day. This smaller 2300 stay around 1day but with all options off.
If somebody knows if the battery are kompatible, i would open it and put a LG 3000 in it.

A lot of it can be pointed towards Google services. Disable the gps and location reporting / history. Set gps to battery saving and switch it to high accuracy when you need it.

Same problem here. I'm having my phone for 3 Days now. Today i used it the whole day. Unpluging at 5am. Usage today: 4-5 hrs of Music listening 20 minutes of video watching, 1 hr of light gaming (hill climb race), Wifi turned of when not needed, Reading Tapatalk. I recharged twice adding around 20%. I reached home at 4pm, barely making it to the charger with the phone on (3% left). So i went through 140% (1.4 charges) of Battery in half a day with under 4hrs screen on...
I'm trying franco kernel atm. underclock to 2Ghz and undervolt. Currently Clocks and undervolts aren't sticking. I'll see how far i can get with volts. Tomorow i'll have rughly the same usage, and will upload a screen when my battery gets lower.
And no, i won't turn of location services, google services or anything that this phone comes with. I love this thing for the features it delivers. I see no point in having 2 days batterylife but having a Nokia 6310 basically because everything that a smartphone is capable of is turned of.
I have a battery bank on its way and i don't mind recharging it over the day. None the less it would be nice if i wouldn't have to. I won't return mine atm and will hold on to what the devs may achieve in the near future. Till then i'll keep a close eye on how this develops and when BBS is working correctly, i'll see what causes this kind of drain..
regards, Dominik
Edit: forgot to mention, my phone goes to deep sleep very well. System Monitor says, that the phone is pretty much instantly sleeping, when the screen is of. And i use manual brightness mostly and 80% on lowest setting.

I'm having this problem too. Even when fully charged and left in standby overnight, my phone dies before the morning.
This was my results today. I surfed for less than an hour and received one phone call. I've seen people getting standby times of more than a day, so something is definitely not right here.

sounds like a big drain if you have lg vip service ( free in NL ), call lg and ask a replacement.
My first o3d was like that and the new one I lose 3-5% overnight with no TP app ( juice garbage etc )

Auto brightness

Edit: main bettery user seems to be 3d gameloft games, I can get 24hours with some 3d youtube a lof wifi browsing and a 3d picture now and then

Over night Standby Loss= 0%, some other nights I get about 4% loss, I don't know why!
Average day I get 24 hours before needing a charge, or extra one half a day, depending on the use.
I have :
WIFI off, I turn it on when I need that and I do that a lot.
GPS off.
Auto Brightness.
Sync on.
Playing Cut the rope for a while.
Taking some 2D/3D videos and pictures.
Yehaww
I get about 7-8 hours but I'm ALWAYS on my phone. Always.... normal for me
I would say I get what I need.
I have the phone from 6:40am till 10pm with 20%-10% battery left.
My use is:
WIFI all the time.
3G (data transfer) off all the time.
GPS off.
Default Brightness.
Sync on.
Playing Angry Bird, Slice Fruit and a bit of Golf 3D and listening music while going and coming back from work (2hrs journey return).
And obviously making/receiving some phone calls.
Now, lately, I've been playing a LOT of Golf 3D (got really addicted ) so from my house to my work I've lost 30%-40% battery.
When I go to my break I play another 30 minutes and the battery is already on its 40%-30%.
So basically I have to charge it at work.
During the night the phone is ALWAYS charging so I don't know how much the phone would drain.
Wifi on
Data off most of the time
Sync on
No 3d
Average time 10-14 hrs
Very dissapointed...i have to carry charger everywhere...LG software is battery unoptimized

Sync on
3G/HSDPA on
GPS off
Wifi localization on
Brightness 55%
Phone is on v10D and rooted. Got a couple of background processes like WhatsApp and battery/time/weather widgets.
The first week it was pretty bad but now I'm quite content.
You have to take into consideration that the phone has a very large screen with dualcore processor. I think the largest capacity battery you can get for this phone without drastically enlarging the casing is about 1980mAh which will give you (just an estimation) about an hour more juice. If you want the phone to last two days on one charge with normal use it would've been twice as large and a lot heavier.
I don't understand how some can get such better battery life when they use the phone more than I do.
Is it the different launchers, what do people use.

What worrys me about that is that your Android System stat says that it is using 15% were as mine says it is using 53%. That just doesn't seem normal.
My Android System is using 33% and it is the one that uses most my battery.

Nice app man. Im gonna check that out. My experience of battery monitors has always been that they eat more battery than they help you conserve but that one looks interesting.
There are parts on that graph that say it is consuming absolutely no power at all. That seems off likes.

Here ya go, after over 14 hours. The top one is RF2011 3D which I played about 5 minutes. Besides RF2011 I played just over half an hour of Wordfeud. The rest of the time the phone was in standby and as you see it still has about 70% charge. My Android System only used 3% in these 14 hours as you can see in my screenshot.

i get similar results since upgrading to 4.4.2. From what i see it has to do with a combination of google play services and/or google now. it's driving me nuts too. My device is rooted, no custom rom or kernel, Greenify and Snapdragon Pro battery save app and im getting terrible results. What use to be a typical 10% drain by the end of the day (minimal usage), now i'm getting 50% drain by the end of the day. I only seem improvements after rebooting my device.

Ohh okay, so noone figgured out what causes it? Or how to improve the batterylife? I cant seem to find anything on several forums...
battery life is dependent on how you personally set up your device, what apps you have installed, how you manage your apps, and, very importantly, the quality of your phone/data connection plays a huge role in battery life(huge might be an understatement).
My battery is also worse with 4.2.2 -- not catastrophic, but probably a good 15% (roughly) performance drop. What I've noticed, but haven't seen any other mention of, is a tremendous increase in the number of wakes when the phone should be sleeping. With 4.2 it slept like a baby, barely sipping any juice at all, but now it's doing something every few minutes. I am pure stock, unrooted, no custom anything and don't have facebook. Just about everything's turned on -- as it was under 4.2. My only 'exotic' app is Chrome beta which does seem to be a battery hog, but that shouldn't account for this aspect of performance.
(added per comment above) Phone/data connections are identical from 4.2/4.2.2 so it is the update -- or probably just as likely, some app that needs tweaking to play nice with 4.2.2
I had the same problem after updating to 4.4.2. Turning "Backup my data" under "Backup & reset" off worked for me.
I have read in other XDA forums that 4.4.2 may be more honest about battery usage now where before it was front loading battery stats to give the illusion of better performance.
I believe most cell phone manufacturers and carriers regularly do this with battery stats and signal strength.
What is important is your individual performance. Looks like your battery is at about 70% after 9.5 hours. What is wrong with that?

I feel like my phones battery life has gotten better. I can get about 3-3.5 hours of screen time on my battery, ~17 hours. Reset the phone and don't install any apps, to see how its working. 50% less in two hours, no games, just whatsapp and spotify, screen at min. Worst battery life I've had in Android phones
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
My battery life is excellent on this phone, and the majority of the time it's better than any other phone that I've owned (12 of them, to be exact).....and then either Google + or Chrome will start running really aggressively in the background and kill 20% of my battery within the space of a half hour. This happens even when I haven't actually opened either app. It doesn't happen often, and a reboot seems to fix it, but it's really, really annoying.
But yeah, fantastic battery life other than that issue.
Disable location reporting. This should help. I notice a huge difference. Also, when I have Facebook installed, I seem to get terrible battery life compared to when I just use it in the browser.

Disabling location reporting is one of the first things I do on any new phone. It's not worth the battery drain you end up having, and Google Now works fine without it.
I've actually been surprised with how good the battery life is at times but I have to admit it's not always very consistent.
Wi-Fi is on during sleep "Only when plugged in" and "Scanning always available" is off.
Location Mode is "battery saving" unless I need to use google nav.
Location reporting on, history off and I am not using google now. Also using Nova Launcher.
Not using Facebook, Google+ or Twitter.
Using Xposed Framework with the paid version of Greenify. Google Search, Hangouts, Keep and YouTube are the only "system" apps I have "Hibernated."
I would like to know how you did it. Flashing a factory image, using another rom / kernel, tweaking X setting... Maybe this help people, including me, as I am having really bad battery life
Are you connected to WiFi most of the time? I had the really bad battery drain issue while connected to WiFi after the 4.4.2 update. I lost about 30% of charge after 4ish hours while connected. Currently I'm at 92% after 3 hours
What battery drain?
Stock everything and I'm getting great battery. Location on high accuracy and location history off.

\When you say that you have bad battery life, it would certainly help if you provided more details - screen print of battery usage, which apps are using more battery, screen on time, and betterbatteryplus wakelock details if possible.
The 'solution' will depend on what is draining your battery. It also depends on what your expectations are - you are not going to get 10 hours of screen on time (exaggeration, but I hope you understand what I am getting at) - so, if you can quantitatively express what you are expecting, and what you are getting, folks may be able to help you figure out how to address the issue.
A "bad battery life" statement doesn't really help much

Have you had the same results when you didn't play Asphalt 8? In my experience Asphalt 8 drains the battery immensely. So if you played asphalt 8 for 30 min or so it would drain your battery about 15-20% or so. Even though it says it used only 6% it's a lot more because of the screen and the processing/graphics it has to use for the game.

Hmm that is a bit weird then. On a normal day of use without watching videos or playing games I'm usually at around 90% after 3-4 hours. So I figured if you played Asphalt for like 20 min or so it would explain the battery. Most battery drains are shown as "Android OS" or "Google Play Services" and that doesn't seem to be the case so I'm not sure. Whats your brightness on? Oh I actually didn't notice it showed the stats for Asphalt 8. For some reason (and I can be wrong) but it would show I played for 11 min for example but I would have really played for more. Also, would you mind showing your signal stats? It could also be your bad signal although I think that would be shown as "cell standy"

Well Here are some top tips that i tried and pretty much help a lot
- Since i Live in the UK and we dont have large scale LTE, Make sure the phone isnt searching for it
- Running ART, I know its not much but it helped a bit
-Turn off google Now, I know many people like this but i dont really use it, At the very least turn off hotword detection in the settings
- Dont use Auto Brightness, its easy just find a brightness setting that you feel good with and keep it there
- Use Tasker, I use this for a lot of things but setup a profile in tasker that turns off things like mobile data and wifi in the hours when your going to be sleeping, This will reduce standby time loss, Tested it last night and i went to bed at 50% when i woke up 8+ hours later the phone was at 48%
- Change account syncing settings, This also reduces standby time loss make sure your phone is checking only every half an hour or so for email
From this morning up until like half an hour ago i was on about 48% - 17% with medium use and it lasted about 6-7 hours Ill post pictures when i go through a while day with these settings tomorrow.

My phone signal is green the 99% of the time as I live in the main city of Tenerife. I disabled 4G as we don't have it here yet.
I really recommend cataclysm + franco to anyone with battery issues. It's definitely fixed for me. Will post battery stats this night or tomorrow
Hi All
I'm set with money ready to buy the Nexus 5 ( 32 GB ) or Z1 Compact
And I wonder how well the battery of the N5 performs in real life
Because...when I buy the N5 I don't plan to leave it at 2.26Ghz...in fact I even plan to underclock it to 1.7Ghz ( Because Xperia Z has a 5" and is clocked at an even lower speed and still performs well )
And I'm a light user...who never or rarely uses Wi-FI and am always on 2g ( I never use 4G or 3G ) and always on 5-10% Brightness I also plan to remove all bloatware ( except Google Now ) my phone usually sits on bed and I only get it out to watch some 720p Vids then it rests again
Could I get a day or two out of it and is the "Camera Draining the battery issue" fixed on the 4.4.2 Update?
and finally i just wonder up to now why Z1c gets higher scores than N5 I mean N5 is clocked at higher speeds could this be the effect of Thermal Throttling
Thanks alot :good:

Well, nexus 5 will give you a day backup easily according to your usage
The camera bug is not yet fixed, but there are rumors for 4.4.3 update which gonna fix it and gonna release soon
You need to fairly choose between fast updates(nexus and gpe series) or more hardware features (all other smartphone)
If you are interested in rooting and customizing stuff, then you will get plenty of those in nexus 5
Even my usage is similar like you, I use 3G, I do get one day battery backup
I hope it helps you

I'm not 100% sure on the compacts specs but my friend has the Z1. It's exactly the same processor and clock speed. Apart from the camera is awesome and it's waterproof. But u get a crappy sony ui. And Sony updates (which to be fair it has just received 4.4.2) but in my past experience of owning Sony's as soon as their next phone is released they forget about the previous.
The nexus on the other hand is far smoother and faster to use and WILL get all the latest Android releases first and always. And no bloatware. Just fast smooth simple Android
I was deciding between the two before I got my Nexus, and to be fair i don't think I'd have been disappointed in either.
And yes you can easily get 2 days out of the nexus.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Ahh because I was a bit skeptical since I checked the GSMarena website and battery endurance was at 40H and Z1c is like 65H
How about the overheating issues?

Most Google Now functions require internet connectivity. I think reminders work without one.

From what you describe as your usage I can see it lasting a day no problem, perhaps 36 hours, maybe more if you let the battery go down far. My Nexus 5 typically burns from 100% to 70% over 10 hours from when I leave to when i get back from work, and thats on 4G/3G with decent to fair signal, bluetooth on, wifi on, and brightness all the way up, with texting on and off through the day. With minimum texting once I made it around 85-88%, little over 1% an hour.
That's great to know since I even plan to Underclock the phone and leave the other connection options off at most times
As for Google Now without net would it still work or just show "Cannot Reach Google at the moment"

I know! Battery is brutal.
My last charge only lasted a day and a half with over 6 hours screen time.
Very disappointed.

I would say most people running on stock everything will NOT get the stats you're getting.
About 3-4 SOT is about average I would think, and that is with brightness at a lower setting. Don't give users a false sense of security, as your stats are far from the norm...
^thank you

3-4 SoT hours is already more than most phones could hope for.
6-8 hours SoT is achievable on stock, with lighter usage and mostly WiFi. I wouldn't say it's misleading to expect 6 hours SoT as that seems to be what most users on here are settling down with.
Edit for obligatory proof: Take today for instance, 3 hours SoT with 54% battery remaining. Heavy data usage and loss of signal included. Stock and unrooted.

It shows what is possible. And the battery life thread can show anyone how to do it. Its not hard. Turn stuff off. Toggle it on when you actually truly need it. It isn't that inconvenient.
Yes, you are right about the average times ...the problem is some, like a person in this thread we all should know, complain and complain and complain about their 3 hours screen time. Meanwhile, everything is on, they're gaming, using auto brightness in the sunshine...etc...etc...
As you said, 3 to 4 SOT is average I'd say. If that disappoints anyone....do something about it....there's a battery thread full of help....or sell the phone and buy one with a huge battery that can handle everything on and give you more hours.

That's true, on wifi, the battery life really shines. Out in the real world, with varying signal strength, I would put the average around 3-4 SOT with everything on however.

FaIr enough
Yes, there are many tweaks that can be done to improve battery life, but stock for stock, it is only average in my opinion.
It looks to me like its pretty good on battery. I only tested the usage time and not the standby time.
I had my phone on for 8 1/2 hours and my location was on the whole time with high accuracy enabled. I had Bluetooth on the whole time. Screen was set to auto.
Screen on time: 5:40
calls: 2:20
Waze: around an hour
and all the rest like emails, whatsapp, facebook, text, etc...
Did anyone see how the standby time affects the battery?
Nice

Screen on time?
This was just before bedtime
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA Premium HD app
2hrs screen on time right now, lots of Android System use for some reason.
I've done Bluetooth streaming to my car stereo, listened to music, podcasts, and played a bunch of Angry Birds 2 today, as well as browsing the Web and Facebook. Pretty active day and the battery has held up fairly well. Hopefully it's comparable to my Xperia Z3.
This is more in line with what iI seeing. Last night I went threw and turned software my radio disabled all the unnecessary apps and force closed almost everything... Then unplugged it when it was full 2 hours later iI had lost 10 percent. The only radio that WA son was the wifi but I was connected to wifi.
First full charge..
Not bad, but high Android System somehow

I'm not to happy with mine. It's almost like my edges battery life.
Mine was pretty trashy for 1st full day. Switched to airplane mode from about 4pm till 6pm because it was dropping like a rock... I'll have better screenshot for tomorrow. S6 was avg about 4hours screen time so we shall see how this pans out.. Shrug.. 3500 was all we needed

Wow that's great, did you have wifi, gps, auto brightness?
I've notice that the battery would drain fast 100-89 in a 10-15 kin span then when plug in it would charge up to 100 and it would drain normally.
My first charge cycle...
Screen brightness at 90%.
50% data 50% WiFi.
Bluetooth music and S Gear.
Continuous testing, setting up and general messing around.
Acouple 5 min 4k videos.
Internet surfing.
I did have a 10%spike when I was transferring some files.! So I took this screen with 9% remaining.
Quite impressive to me considering I was getting about 9 hrs with 3hrs Screen time from Note 4 edge with the same battery.
This phone is a major upgrade to the note Edge!!!
Some nice results... I've never been one to Greenify, or freeze many apps. If I decide to get the N5, I'll have to change some habits I suppose. Still on the damn fence about this phone. Maybe I'll go see it at best buy, see how it feels in hand.

Agreed...im getting more than double sot and stdby time then i do with my edge. N5
Is at least twice as fast and buttery as hell compared to the edge.
This phone feels beautiful in your hand. Still trying to get use to the battery and a little smaller screen had all the notes then went to the nexus 6 for a while. This one is by far the best build of any of them.
My battery life is horrible comparatively. What are you guys doing to get 5+ hours so? I haven't even hit 4 hours yet...
