[Q] Any Hurry to RMA? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my 16GB black n5 in today and it is pretty defect free. there is one dead pixel in the middle of the device that I can only imagine will drive me crazy when im looking at the device for extended periods of time
is there any rush to RMA this device? it has a year warranty from google right? if i waited 1-6 months to let the hype die down and let the people with real defects get their replacements, would i still be able to contact google and get a free replacement for the dead pixel?

How did you check for the dead pixel? I used an app and couldn't find anything. Ether I'm very lucky or just can't notice them.

i think you're lucky. i have what looks like one dead pixel about an inch down from the middle of the top of the screen. it stays black no matter what color the 'dead pixel test' apps flash the screen.
i dont notice it until i notice it lol, which usually happens when im scrolling something(home screen, website, etc)
the phone doesn't have any other reported issues. only a tiny bit of backlight bleeding, but i think that's ok. and the power button does rattle, but only a tiny tiny bit. if it weren't for the dead pixel, i wouldn't even be thinking about returning it.
i just feel that some people have truly unusable devices, and if I RMA mine now, then it can delay theirs. i just wanna be sure i could RMA it in like 3-6 months or so

Me too
i have a dead pixel on my n5 as well. check out my post with the pic

Danggit, I'm in a similar situation. About an inch up from the bottom middle-right of the screen, there's a bright green cluster of pixels plaguing me. I've tried apps to fix dead pixels, but it doesn't seem to be fixing it. Google is going to get me a replacement, but I hope they don't ask me to send back my phone before I get a new one. This is my only phone I have access to!

from what i hear. they put a 350 dollar hold on your account(an additional one). you then need to print out an RMA form and put it in the original box. when the replacement phone arrives you will be able to give the UPS guy your old phone in the box(or they ship you an additional box that you need to drop off or schedule to have them pick it up). once they get the defective phone they will release the hold on the funds so that it goes back into your account.
i hear they have replacement stock too, so you wont have to wait 4+ weeks in order to get a new one

Customer service told me today to expect 3-4 weeks for a replacement unit to even ship out. I just charged my phone for the first time last night, and it got down to 5% battery with 11 hours of standby. I had no apps running, and I had not even touched my phone once while at work. This is a bit disheartening for me since my old Nexus 4 would have 70-80% power left even after all the hours of being untouched while at work.

My replacement order says 2-3 weeks for delivery, I don't have any reason to think it's going to be any sooner. A question I've posed to Google but haven't received an answer on is that the replacement receipt says I have 21 days to return the unit being replaced. However, it also says I can either return it now or wait until I receive the replacement.
So, a bit of a contradiction there. Still not sure if I have to return within the 21 days or if I can wait until the replacement arrives. I've already given my Nexus 4 to my daughter, so I'm without a phone if I send this one in. Grrr.

Dude, I have zero dead pixels & only a tiny bit of light bleed. My speaker is loud & I don't have any buttons rattling. My screen colors are wonderful & my battery is performing brilliantly.
I have been using my device pretty regularly today which included 90 minute of GPS, WHILE WiFi tethering on AT&T's LTE network. Bluetooth was on as well. This was over an hour ago, currently at 10 hours 16 minutes w/ 59% battery remaining.

Interesting that Google and shops are offering RMAs on just 1 dead pixel. On a much larger desktop LCD display of the same resolution you would have to have a much higher number before they even consider an RMA.
Also the pixels are so small on our phones that one dead one is really of no concern - unless perhaps it is a hot pixel, i.e stuck on white, but even then I doubt it will be of much concern.
I am very fussy about dead/hot pixels - so when I purchase a computer monitor I make sure to get one with a hot pixel warranty, and a good dead pixel policy (low acceptable rate).
My Nexus 5 has one dead pixel, but it is so tiny I forget where it is and have to get the right colour to even see the tiny thing. I certainly would not consider replacing it.
Not to mention that if any dust gets in the phone it's going to look like a dead pixel anyway - and it'll happen one day.
Just use your phone, as you normally would. I'm sure you'll not even notice it.

i think that 75% of the reports of dead pixels is actually dust between the glass and the screen

I called in my RMA on Monday afternoon. Tuesday night I received the email for RMA and placed the order. My order status just updated to "leaves warehouse on 11/26/13" a few hours ago - no idea how accurate that is but when I ordered from the RMA, it was the same wait time as retail Google Play orders (2-3 weeks). I think in the past people just get a full retail order, not a "service model" the way Apple does things.

Screen burn already, first time ever.

I have owned every Galaxy since S2 plus the Note 4 and Active S6
This is the first time I have ever had a Samsung with screen burn.
Just a few weeks old, then again it could just be a defect but never noticed it before. I do like to read on the phone but I have read on phones for years, so nothing different.
Really noticeable when scrolling on a website or anything with a white background.
What are my options, try Samsung warranty or maybe let it be. I am worried it might wear out unevenly and I plan to keep this phone (first ever) for several years.

lol i dont see anything either
Just got new glasses, yet I'm still not able to spot anything on the screenshots... Damn, need to talk to my optician. :cyclops:
Maybe you're not praying hard enough
Not saying it's not there but I don't see it. I just don't understand how you can get burn in without leaving the image on screen for very long time. You can try a pixel fixing app from playstore and see if that helps.
I have the same thing and no fixing image. In one month the display show dark band....no troll it's true when i scroll on fb or website.

I can't see any burn-in. Maybe describe what your burn in look like or what being burned in.
Or maybe it's just a bad screen uniformity not exactly a burn-in (see this http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/hows-everyones-screen-color-unfirmorty-t3333600 )
Get it fix under warranty
I was a little bit fearing that you guys with the Snapdragon would end up having some issue due to eat being higher than the Exynos one. I live in Canada, we normally get the same S series as you guys in the USA. But this time, we got the exynos and I was surprised and SO happy when I discovered it.
good luck dealing with Samsung. I have the SD card issue (connect/disconnect/reconnect/...). I have been dealing with them for 3 weeks. I ended up having to send my device to a Samsung authorized Service center. They said: Need to replace the motherboard + screen since it is impossible to do the task without changing the screen. Cost 690$ CDN. 450$ for the motherboard and 150 for the screen plus 15% taxes (yes I live in Quebec lolll).
Then, they called me with the estimate. I said contact Samsung since its under warranty and I have tones of emails back/forth, and phone calls with there executive management department. Every time I speak to one person, I have to repeat the all thing to another one. They seem to not keep tract of their records, email exchange, etc.
Now they say I have to pay for the Screen replacement. I am still fighting with them on the fact that the motherboard cannot be replace without replacing the screen... Over and over. And I am a Lawyer. I have spent over 15 hours on the phone with them to date and still my phone is sitting to the repair service. They would not talk to each others. Extremely weird all the story. But I kept tract of everything and I am sending email to everyone I have dealt with all the time. All this to not have my phone for 2 weeks now... and at least another week before it gets back.
They will have no choice then to pay (of COURSE) and I know it... this is my job to do so.
Lol and re-Lol. I have owned 2 S1, 2 S2, 3 S3, 2 S4, 3 S5... and they just dont seem to want to deal promptly with their hardware issue. Really frustrating. I am charging 350$/hour... I have lost a lot of money (time) on this. I will sue them for it in the end. They will be easy for me. They wont even send a Lawyer in Ottawa (where I live) since they have no representative here. And their legal fees will be over 10K to fight. My demands will be around 5K to date.
Good luck
We are in the same boat...

I'm also in the same situation as yours.
First let me get into a major issue I'm facing,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66463345&postcount=71
and the same problem as yours,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/help/grey-lines-display-t3360635
I'm gonna try warranty tomorrow again because I believe they had given me a faulty display during the repair.
Every Samsung phone I've owned has had horrible screen burn in, even with brightness at low. I finally quit buying them but my old lady still does. She decided on an iPhone last time because of the screen burn. So from the galaxy s all the way to the galaxy s6 every phone had burn in.
I'have s1 to 7 too. But first for me with display who as 1.5 month. Only on white/grey as usual on amoled. I think it's more visible since s6 s7 qhd resolution.

me, my brother and father bought sgs7 new ones and i can say that all 3 have screen burns (black spots or lines)i couldnt believe when i saw that and i came from xperia z5 which also had screen burn but there were white spots on xperia instead off black ones and i send to sony waranty and they replaced the screen in one week and now the screen is flawlees....definetly going to samsung waranty and see what they will say. :fingers-crossed:
Samsung warranty is a random world. Send for one problem back with 2 problem lol. It's for this i stay with mine (sorry for the very poor english). I love samsung product and amoled display but with the grey and white there is always a prob. Rrr

How well has your LG V10 held up? Is it still in good condition? Share Pics? Comments

Hey guys. I'm just curious as to how well your phones have held up during your daily use.
My screen is shattered pretty good. All of the rubber on the back was shredded and ripped off long ago. The frame AND the battery is also bent to all hell

I was running through the parking lot after work and it fell out of my pocket. Not only did it land perfectly face down... It slid into a puddle (a puddle in Washington state?!)
Still works though.
I consider my phone as soft bricked right now. (there is a post about it) I lost root and its impossible to root it again. For now. So my phone is basically twice as worthless to me.

LCD screens do not get screen burn-ins. They do however get what can be loosley called ghost images. Ghost images or more likey to go away after a while of screen transitioning. LCD screens also dont get these images as easy as like plasmas that do get burn-in. So whats the longest time its been on a still image?

Im sorry your in this predicament. But there is some good news... With some bad. If you you have general knowledge of opening up phones, you can find a disassembly guide and buy a replacment screen, but they dow run about $100 US. Another thing to try is well... See if you can ship it without the battery to one of our devolopers here at the v10 h900 forums to ship offf to lg, and send the new one LG ships to them, back to you.
Thx for the sentiments mate..but i will live with this for another year and then buy something new..still much appreciate the offers

You can get a used LG V10 h901 for 234$ on eBay. From what I've seen, most screen replacements are around 120$. So I'm gonna spend the extra 114 dollars and get an h901 to replace my h900.
I'm on my third v10, my wife is on her second. My first one had a issue with the motherboard and overheated and ultimately had the boot loop of death. Att sent me a refurbished one, even though I had my original phone less then two months, that phone had a faulty wifi antenna or something and could not connect to wifi. They sent me another one which is working fine so far, although it's only been three weeks.
My wife's phone died after she had it for a month and a half, something in the phone shorted out and scorched the bottom of the phone, her replacement is working fine for now too.
We've been through four phones in two months. These are not our first lg phones, but I'm really disappointed in these phones and won't be buying another LG phone again.

Still going strong. All stock MM, SOT of about 4 hours, 36 hours between charges, GPS never fails, BT volume a little low in car, audio great. Seidio case, tempered glass screen protector, not a scratch on it. Have to clear cache a little lag the past 2-3 days. It's big and heavy but I love it!

Mine died this past Monday. Suddenly it turned off and when I tried to turn it back on it was on a bootloop on the LG logo. Made a factory reset and it didn't fixed it. Had to take it to att. They sent me yesterday an att certified new device. So far is working good.

Its scary how we have had the EXACT same experience with the V10. First phone boot loop. Second phone refurb would not connect to wifi and when it did it would shut on and off automatically over and over. Ultimately the phone would reboot itself.

That is crazy that we both had the same issues. I was ready to get rid of att so I could avoid more refurbished phones, but they finally agreed to send me and my wife two new models and they added extra data to our plan. The only thing available was the S7 edge, but I'm just ready to wash my hands of the v10 at this point.
Hopefully you get your stuff resolved

Very good question well i keep mine in a outterbox so its still like new however i have notice a oval shape as if morture gets trapped in between the glass and lcd this is my 2nd v10 and it happened again needs to be better sealed
My second one has been pretty solid. No case, and it's been dropped more than a few times, but so far, it's always landed on its edge so no major damage. I'm convinced that a removable battery contributes to this a lot. Having the battery blow out the back on impact is absorbing a lot of the energy when it falls.
My first one, the prox sensor went out after a few weeks. I figured out that it was caused from me putting a lot of bending stress on the frame when I pulled it out of my front pocket while seated. Luckily warranty covered it, and I'm for careful about removing it from my pocket now.

The Dreaded Yellow Tint...

Do any of you have the slight yellow hue at the bottom 1/3 of your screen? It's especially noticeable on the settings menu. This happened with my HTC 10, and it took 3 phones to finally get a good screen. UGH! Time to return and try again...
I have a very slight yellow tint at the bottom of the screen also, but nothing which would justify a return.
Think it could come from the screen circular polarized filter, as from the screen viewing angle, this yellow tint varies on my phone
"Kind of" same effect seen on Google Pixel 2 XL, with a blue tint on the third top of its screen:

In display settings you can adjust the colour temp. Set it to a little cooler and I think it's gonna be fine . My unit is fine, no tint, no backlight bleed, everything as expected.
My new replacement from Amazon will be here tomorrow! It's kind of like the Pixel 2 pic up above, but imagine the blue at the bottom as yellow, and it's when you're looking directly at it... not at an angle. Hopefully, the second one is good.
P.S. I had no issues with the buttons!
make sure sRGB is turned off or tune it to a better color profile

So what about your replacement unit? Mine has this light yellow tint as well and I ordered it from the HTC Club/Digital River.
Just sent them a mail today from HTC.com, but I guess I'll have a reply during week days.
I'll have a chat conversation on the website too at this time to ask about a replacement.
If they can't make me a replacement, I'll ask a refund and wait a bit before making a new order with it.
Otherwise, coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, this HTC U12 is really great! Too bad I have to send it back but at this price, I guess I'd like to have a "perfect" unit
P.S.: the picture doesn't show it really well but the yellow tint is quite noticeable in real life (I was waiting for a screen protection before removing the base covers too ;p).

I just returned my replacement! I agree... If I'm spending this much money, I'm going to wait for the perfect unit. I have an HTC 10 that has an amazing screen, so if my u12 doesn't compare, I'll just send it back. Since you ordered thru HTC and it's within 30 days, I'd suggest getting a refund and ordering another. If you ask for a replacement thru warranty, you're not guaranteed a new unit (probably unlikely), but it's much easier to return with no questions asked and buy another.

So does that means your replacement unit was also affected? Oooh... better to wait before getting this U12
When I bought my Levono X1 Carbon (from Lenovo official website and it was using the Digital River platform too), the first unit had a dead pixel and I asked for a replacement. I had no problem exchanging it so I hope this will be the same for HTC.
Technically, in France, we have a return policy of 15 days from the reception day, not 30. I'm using this choice for now and will see when their desks will open on Monday. Otherwise, like I said above and on what you suggest, I'll ask a refund and order a new one. But I don't know if I'll place the order right behind the refund - I'd like to be sure if current units are affected with this yellow tint.
No one else is affected like us?

I'm not really sure? Maybe others aren't as OCD as us. Yours is definitely worse than mine, but I still couldn't deal with it. What color was your phone? Mine were both ceramic black, so maybe I'll try blue next. I'll wait a little bit to buy again too.
Have you received your replacement unit or have you already send it back?
Maybe we're the only ones affected by this yellow tint, maybe we are too OCD I'll be sure when I'll (eventually) get the new unit x)
I ordered the translucent blue one so not sure by switching colors, you'll solve any screen problem ^^
Sadly I have to deal with HTC for now as I ordered the phone in the HTC Club for the cheaper price. Otherwise, I would try with Amazon. The phones aren't supposed to be dispatched from the same depots but it might be a faulty production, so yes, better to wait before ordering one.
Yup, I returned the replacement today. I may order 2 next time, and then hopefully return only one. Ha. Stupid yellow tint.
Some news from my problem: HTC accepted to take back the defective phone and only offered me the refund option. So I'll wait a bit before making a new order Will stick with my S7 edge a bit longer =]
Great! I'm waiting for my refund to be processed before buying again. Oh, I will get one without yellow tint! ?

Placed my order for 2 x blue 64gb. Let's hope 1 doesn't have yellow tint!
Nice! Feel free to keep us to date when you receive them
Actually, in France especially, HTC mentions on their website they will ship new units at late July/early August. Maybe you'll get the last units of a « first wave ».
Hopefully during August or during September, it will be a new wave letting avoiding this yellowish tint.
I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER! It only took 4 phones to get there... Haha.

Mind posting some pics?
It's really hard to capture yellow tint or no yellow tint from a picture.
Keep it trying Just take a pic from the phone parameters and we will notice, or not
So, I received my other unit, from Amazon this time. And let's say that this unit has a worst screen than my first unit: the tint is noticeable at both bottom and top edges...
I guess I'll have to get in touch with Amazon and still hope for a homogeneous screen =o

Poor Quality for Water Use

So my experience with the device has had its ups and downs. Truly I do love it, was looking for a good replacement of my Pebble Time which its at the end of its age basically but still functions great after almost 3 years. There is one issue I've come across and its dealing with the display and water leaking. So I've had 2 devices and both failed roughly 1-2 months of use. Right now on my second RMA of the device, 1st one actually got credit to get a new one.
Device one... was going good and started noticing streaks on the screen, green type. Eventually went to full out extreme brightness of the display and the unit got very very hot. Even charging would lead to insane temps coming from the unit for even a very short period of time. This one was contributed to water penetration into the device some how... I was able to RMA it and get a credit back. Figured it was just a fluke and got another device. Device 2 lasted a shorter period of time and failed in a different way but still dealing with the display. From white streaks across the display to full out white screen with odd brightness again. Again from what I can tell its dealing with water leaking issue... its in process now so we'll see.
Now that being said, if it was really water issue... the device is meant for the water! Swimming, Diving, Showers, etc. Its rated for that on the device (50m depth), which so happens to be similar to my Pebble Time which I've never had an issue with. Even staying that, first one I did swim with it and rinsed it off after, the second one if it got wet it was from washing my hands! Samsung's quality control screwed it up for the Fit2 Pro's?
Curious anyone else experience with this device?

Same here. After 2 months of use , the HR monitor stopped working and it was discharging fast, the second day, after pool it became unresponsive and died.
The service unit replaced the pcb and the battery and sent it back. Worked fine for 2 days and it took water damage again. They repaired it again, came back, worked for one entire hour of swimming. Not mine got replaced but I just want my money back at this point.
That 5atm waterproofing is obviously BS

Least mine isn't getting sent back. Totally called it, UN-repairable. Totally agree that the 50ATM is BS on the device.
Curious how the the new watch is going for the 50ATM as well.

I'm reluctant in buying Samsung gear again. Although the The gear sport looks promising. I'll hang on to this one till I get my money back and wait for more wear os options to appear.
I'm pretty sure this one takes water through the small sensor holes or maybe on button presses while submerged.
Shame. It could've been a perfect all in one device.

Correction mine did get sent back and now I'm talking to their support group. Not only was it not repaired because of "water damage" (no kidding) but they actually cracked the casing on my device on the bottom edge putting it back together or taking it apart. 5ATM (50 Meters), ha, more like can't last in the sink, rain might even do the device in.
I'd be really curious of their other devices, like mentioned the sport, or even the new Galaxy Watch which, has the same specs. Maybe not as small around the frame would help it out but I'd be really cautious. Yes I'd have to say that myself I'll be waiting to see other options and its sad I really do like the device and want to but this is just ridiculous.
My gf2 pro was more than 20 times in a swimming pool (I'm using it regularly for a swimming) and no problems of any kind! Only thing I don't like is impossibility to choose pools shorter than 25m in native samsung health app so I have to use speedo aplication.

Are you experiencing purple spots, green tint, or a burned image on screen?

Howdy folks, it seems the new Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the same issues as seen on the Moto Edge+ since they share the same screen hardware. These issues are popping up usually within a few days of ownership and are starting to flood the moto support forums. Since we're an amazing group of members here at XDA, I figured I'd try to nail down some common ground and create a thread to discuss.
If your screen is exhibiting one of the following issues, please reply to the thread with the symptoms, the manufacturer birth-date (on bottom of phone's box), and a photo if possible. Please also share how long the phone was used before symptoms appeared, and whether it had been after a prolonged use period like all day gaming, or just poof it happened.
My Moto Edge 5G is exhibiting the purple splotches around the edges of the screen as well as the green tint.
Manufacturer Birthday: 07/09/2020
Appeared after 4th day of ownership, after long day of sporadic use.
I have a green haze right around the edges and I can't tell if that is apart of an edged screen. Will continue to monitor it.
If it's like the Edge plus and they basically share the same screen I doubt it will get better and will likely need a replacement phone. They did push a software update to the Edge plus that supposedly helped some phones if it hadn't started yet or was very early in the process.
As a person who is in the market for a new device due to a failing battery in my HTC 10, what would the general consensus be on buying and Edge right now? If it matters, I'd buy from the big yellow tag place since they have it in stock and are close. And then if the device has to be returned as well...
Wish they made the G Stylus with 5G

At the $500 price point it was a great deal, at its current $700 price point... I'd go elsewhere. Especially with the widespread screen problems, just look at the reviews on the yellow tag store.
Here's a great photo of the green symptoms side by side. Left is the old one, right is the new one. Pretty significant.

Are you trying to talk me back into getting one now?
*sigh* this is a case where you want something to work out so bad, you try to find excuses to ignore facts. and the $700+ price tag.
it just looks gorgeous.

There's no proof the new one won't start it in a few days. if you want to spin the wheel of chance, go for it. But at $700 I think there's better options out there. OnePlus Nord, Pixel 4a 5G.
Haven't experienced any screen problems, I purchased my device unlocked for $349.99, which is amazing for a 5G device
I will add my $0.02 to this and say I believe it is an LED issue. LEDs might not be getting the right voltage at low levels. Try with an all-white photo. lower your brightness. I bet you could not tell. Try with any other color and you will probably not tell. It is most notable with a super dark grey picture. The kind of dark grey that has a hint of green in it already. Turn the brightness all the way down, then up to about 15-20 percent. You should be able to see it then. I think it is an LED voltage control issue. Software update that was mentioned by one of you up above would make sense to me. Maybe I might just be imagining things or mine is just different than every one elses. The way mine started was at the top of the screen showed it lightly, then it got a bit worse. It has stayed since then. I bought this on the 2nd of August, received it on the 4th. Screen started on the 10th. Today the 16th has not had a change since I believe the 13th, if I remember correctly. It is rooted with Magisk and EdXposed. I might make a return/repair request tomorrow.
So I'm at 4 days with my replacement Edge and it's working correctly so far.
#3 unit
Another replacement unit.
Finger crossed
you really scare me with your screen problems. For the moment (5 days) I have no problem with my Edge (purchase in France) but what scares me is that it does not happen immediately and I do not have a purchase invoice (gift) .... I hope I have no problem soon: /
I really hesitate to sell it quickly so as not to have a problem ....
I have a very Little problema when I'm on dark grey screen with 2 or 3 % of brightness in 90hz mode... if I try to use 60hz mode the display is absolutely perfect..
Ok i have green tint...only at low brightness i have it...i'm si dissapointed....
I don't know what the HELL is happening
Moto Edge is not alone
https://www.sammobile.com/news/infa...sue-returns-galaxy-tab-s7-plus-note-20-ultra/
They can fix it by letting us adjust screen hues , like how Samsung has , so we can calibrate it
Yep, just noticed it today. Took awhile (bout 3weeks). I've been in dark mode, and my wallpaper's of blackness, didn't notice. It's severely getting worse, quickly. Did anyone notice, after the September update? Time to contact best buy.
Mine started out pretty minor, but has been getting progressively worse over the last few weeks. Initially seemed heat related as I only noticed it while using Google Maps in navigation mode. IT would start out as slight dark ghosting of the screen image on the right side of the screen and would progressively creep to the left side. Mostly it's a darkening of the correct image by ghost image of higher up, in particular it's seen as a dark circle where the front camera is. If the part of the image being ghosted is a strong color it will be ghosted in green or purple. As the screen is scrolled the ghosted images move as well. It's since gotten to the point normal usages more then 10-15 mins cause the issue. If I use the camera too long in the heat or sun then the lower part of the screen will go white and the touch digitizer stops working. Attached is a photo taken while the screen was 2/3s white with my company iPhone.
The warranty replacement arrives tomorrow. I just ran the most recent update QPD30.114-23-2 installed claiming fixes for screen issues, but still saw the ghosting after the reboot.
