[Q] Sudden shutdown - HTC Sensation

I have a problem with my sensation for a few weeks already. It will suddenly shutdown without any warning or whatsoever after I used apps for a few minutes even my battery is high. After I booted my sensation to sim card password, the battery suddenly drops to 3% then shutdown again before I able to key in my sim card password. I have found a similar thread at the Galaxy S II thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814466 but not sure it's my battery problem or hardware problem. I have already rooted my device and currently running on Carbon Rom for sensation. Previously I am using albinoman887's CM10.2 rom also facing the same problem. Anyone facing this problem or found solution to this problem?

The most likely cause is the battery. Check it out with another one. You yourself mention that you face the same issue on another ROM.
Sent from whatever isn't something to be locked at, the thing is that it is sent.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. May I know is it put a paper on top of the battery to make it stick more to the bottom? Btw, I also faced battery drain problem. The battery percentage drains very fast even I just using normal apps like Facebook. The battery percentage drops 2% at a time.

first to see whats draining your battery you need to get wake lock programs from appstore
2nd 2% for one minute of facebook on a mobile device is very normal , I have a newer HTC One X phone drops 5% just to check facebook for one minute on mobile network data

I've had the same problem and putting a piece of paper behind the battery solved it.
About the battery drain, I recommend you to download Gsam battery monitor and see if certain apps drain battery more than it supposed to. 2 percents per minute is really fast. You may also try to reinstall your kernel with different settings.

But the battery drops 2% in less than 30 seconds when I use apps even I'm not using wifi or mobile networks. Last time it didn't drain as fast as now.

Will try it as soon as possible. Thanks for the suggestion. :fingers-crossed:

By the way, I have a question here. Why my version-main is 9.99.999.999? Is there any problem with it? I have tried using the Gsam battery monitor and found out that my kernel drains up quite a lot. After I have change the kernel then the kernel is not the main problem already but now my phone radio is draining 5X% or 6X% of my phone battery. Is that normal? I attached the getvar in the attachment.

It's original battery. I just change the battery to Anker battery yesterday. Until now there is still no problem that I faced before. :victory:

was previously using CM10.2 ROM, but when I switched to 3.1.3 Vipers never been. I suspect the fault Kernel

I do not think the original battery. Because I'm using 1.6.3 Vipers Vipers and 3:13. Not because of the battery, it happens when flash CM10.2, Vipers ROM back now. Everything has ended

Yes, I saw it too. But battery life is good.
hmm .. no idea for fix it?
try delete batterystats.bin and reboot
had same problem
with the leaked versions
now with the oficiall update it is ok
My device shows that I am using battery for over one day without charging! That couldn't be possible because I updated about 3 hours ago! And the phone was charged via usb!
I also got problems with my wlan connection since the update! Connection aborts random times during surfing! That's sucks!!!
Other wlan devices got no problems with holding the connection!

same issue here...LG must solve it in next update.
I have the same issue (using Acura V5 and their V2.1 Boot 1.18 Ghz at the moment)
The earlier GB ROMs had that problem too.

I updated with official lg updater and don't have such a problem (edit: nope, i have the same issue and it showed up after some time)
and I have diffident problem with battery history. Can you instal spare parts and check 'battery history'? For me it FCs. The same if I dial *#*#4636#*#* and tap on the battery history.
*Swyped in 3D *
Yes, after installing official GB i have the battery history problem. Somtimes shows few hours last charge even if just unplug it or somethings sticks to few secs even if i've the phone on for many mins.
Even wiped the battery status in recovery but to no avail.

Phone wont turn on while charging. Orange led blink [Solved]

Yesterday i flashed my HTC Sensation with Virtuous Inquisition v.4.0.2. I used the instructions on this site techsliver.com/how-to-s-off-root-flash-cwm-recovery-on-htc-sensation-with-hboot-1.27.0000
Everything else is fine except the fact that when my phone is off and i plug the charger the orange led blinks. I don't remember doing it before.
If i try to start the phone with the charger plugged in it wont start, but if I remove the charger it starts normally. When the phone is on it also charges normally. I read somewhere that it might have to do with CWM. My CWM version is 5.8.0.9 and i installed it using Android SDK.
My HBOOT is like this:
=JunopunutBear=
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1111
RADIO-11.24A.3504.31M
OpenADSP-v05.6.0.2226.00.0418
eMMC-boot

Can anybody help pls?
As far as I know this is normal. Phone should turn on whilst charging though, first make sure your phone has more than 40% charge, then switch off, plug it into charger then wait for the orange led then press power button. Wait for 30 secs then if it hasnt turned on thats not normal. Having said that, I have never used virtuous inquicision so it could be normal behaviour for the kernel included in that ROM
Well I have tried what you said and it doesn't work. It's not that i don't have enough battery, I have about 70%. I noticed that the orange light flashes while the phone is off. This is supposed to happen when there isn't enough battery. My phone refuses to start unless I remove the charger. Virtuous inquisition say they use stock kernel.

Does this happen with any other ROM's or is it just the VI one?
Well I had before a stock rom and no problems. I think it's this rom's fault. Can you give me any suggestions? I am afraid that if my battery dies I wont be able to charge the phone.

What I meant was has this happened on any other custom ROM's. but by the sound of it you havent tried any so my suggestion would be to try a different one (take a backup of VI using recovery so you can easily restore your current ROM) and see if the issue still persists.
As to the charging issue, I very much doubt that will happen, only 2 things that I know of will stop a phone from charging:
1. Bricked phone - yours definitly isnt so no need to worry there.
2. Faulty charge - by the sound of it, yours isnt so again no need to worry
No it's the first custom rom I try. Can you suggest any sensless rom for HTC Sensation with ICS?
Thank you, I hope I'll fix it.

I have a bunch of sarcastic replies to this post which I'm just dying to use, but for the sake of not wanting to cause the moderators any additional work I will keep them to myself (for now):
1. I have already asked him to do this except with a slightly different ROM (smartdroid beserk - which is still sense based but looks and feels like AOSP, like VI ROM)
2. My suggestion didnt help the OP and I'm searching for other methods to hopefully solve this.
Edit2: @hunt007 looking at your post history all your posts seem to advertise the team venom ViperS ROM so I would like to know how much team venom are paying you?
If you have a secondary battery I'd try that, your current one may be getting a bit old. Any issues with random reboots/shutdowns after your battery gets below 30%?

No issues at all. Now I was on vacation and I eventually my battery died one day. so the phone was off and i plugged the charger. I saw the orange light blinking, and i wasn't able to turn the phone on. after a while i unplugged the charger and it turned on the battery had gone 23%, so the phone was in fact charging. so basically the phone charges while it is off, it just doesn't understand it's battery level while off and charging, this is my theory.
Finally I found out what was the issue If anybody else has the same problem the solution is to reflash the CWM.
Maybe I had flashed an older version or a CWM for another phone, idn.
Anyway the correct latest revovery is here http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img

[SOLVED] Phone restarts regularly on every rom

Hi everyone, my desire s is acting strange since few days back.. it keeps on restarting for no reason. At first I thought its due to kernel updates to modified kernel 3. But then I installed reaper gingerbread. It restarted when I opened camera.
Then I installed Nik's project x . Still same problem sometimes when I open camera or other heavy application.
It restarts continuously 5-6 times without completely booting and battery drains to 10-15% from 80-90% within 5 minutes..
I've not got this problem when in charging mode..
I'm now using ice_ds 4.3
If anyone have same problem before , is there a solution to this?
Thanks in advance..

I get this too on all custom ROMS.. sometimes if I knock the phone a certain way it resets.. so it must be hardware related.
Can you let me know what your 'SOLUTION' is? All I see if the cause. Thx

my solution: buy new battery
Put a bit of paper between the battery and the holder clip, that fixed it for me to keep the battery in place.

Senstaion Keeps Turning off?

Phone keep randomly turning off, even with a full charge? Tried different Roms, but nothing changes? New battery doesn't do the trick? Me too, until I found a post on a Vodaphone site that said that multiple copies of HTC Sense was to blame, and that if you go into SETTINGS, then APPS, then select the ALL tab, scroll down to HTC SENSE and Disable the oldest one, then reboot, all my problems would be solved.....
And they have
Hope this helps somebody else and hope it's easier to find than the original post
Another thing that may be the culprit is that the battery is not connecting to the pins correctly. In which case a piece of paper can do the trick! Just lodge it above the battery so that it presses it firmly down onto the pins and you should see no more reboots!
Did the trick for me on several occasions
Did the pack the battery thing at first, and it did seem to work until I upgraded the battery to an Anker.....
Also, ROFL at my spelling mistake in the title. Was definately meant to say Sensation

Only had two shutdowns in the last week and both those were after long gaming sessions in the mornings. That's quite an improvement compared to the 7 or 8 I was getting a day. Sorry it hasn't worked for you though.
Had a few more today too.
I am desperate and willing to try anything.
Maybe, I'll enable it and compare to how it was before.

Randomly restarting of Sensation it's Snapdragon problem, not software. Sometime it's PowerManager IC problem, but then You should see problem with battery level. Once- it's full, and while ago -almost empty etc. Same problem is with Amaze 4G and other with same CPU.
A friend of mine just started having this issue, after upgrading ROM.

My wife's used to have constant reboots daily, stock, rooted, then soff. All rebooted. Then I tried flashing in a certain order the worked with no more reboots.
1.full wipe
2.flash firmware(only once of course)
3.boot into recovery full wipe
4.flash rom

I only flash ROM, as I don't need to flash firmware every time.
I like ARHD ROMs. It happens even when I do full wipe and it laso started happening to a friend, who didn't have this problem before, same ROM as me.

My post says to only flash firmware once but if u flash firmware then go back to recovery you'll notice it has an error mounting a partition and to perform full wipe. Also phone doesn't boot until wiping cache and dalvik. I'm just saayong what worked for me when I thought all was lost and tried every ROM
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
I tried wiping cache and dalvik without any benefit regarding restarts/turn-offs.
Anyway, depending on the ROM I am using, sometimes I get random restarts, sometimes turn offs.
Well I suggest trying the method I posted. I know sounds like it won't do much but I'm I'm telling u I had reboots like crazy everyday and once I flashed in that order it stopped COMPLETLY. So make a back up and try to start all over with firmware and everything.
Sent from my Dark Unicorn Resurrected v4.1 using xda premium
OK, I will try that.
Anyway, I was on stock kernel and now I just flashed SebastianFM, see how this works, better or worse.
I'm also thinking about trying another ROM.
//LE: with SebastianFM's Overclocked Kernel, I already had a few restarts :-\

Random reboots

I have random reboots, I tried removing the SIM and SD card but it didn't help.
Reboots are completely random, I've attached a picture of the log file below.
Sensation has never been rooted before and is on stock rom and kernel.
I don't understand the log, but couple things to do;
-Make sure battery is firmly on the spot. (Usually this causes reboots)
-Try another ROM, see if reboots occur
