Senstaion Keeps Turning off? - HTC Sensation

Phone keep randomly turning off, even with a full charge? Tried different Roms, but nothing changes? New battery doesn't do the trick? Me too, until I found a post on a Vodaphone site that said that multiple copies of HTC Sense was to blame, and that if you go into SETTINGS, then APPS, then select the ALL tab, scroll down to HTC SENSE and Disable the oldest one, then reboot, all my problems would be solved.....
And they have
Hope this helps somebody else and hope it's easier to find than the original post

Another thing that may be the culprit is that the battery is not connecting to the pins correctly. In which case a piece of paper can do the trick! Just lodge it above the battery so that it presses it firmly down onto the pins and you should see no more reboots!
Did the trick for me on several occasions

Did the pack the battery thing at first, and it did seem to work until I upgraded the battery to an Anker.....
Also, ROFL at my spelling mistake in the title. Was definately meant to say Sensation

Anyway, i disabled it since yesterday.
Everything fine so far.

Just had a random restart, the first one since I disabled old sense.

Only had two shutdowns in the last week and both those were after long gaming sessions in the mornings. That's quite an improvement compared to the 7 or 8 I was getting a day. Sorry it hasn't worked for you though.

Had a few more today too.
I am desperate and willing to try anything.
Maybe, I'll enable it and compare to how it was before.
I should probably get another phone (one S, one mini)

My brother has this problem as well. If you find a fix please tell me.

Randomly restarting of Sensation it's Snapdragon problem, not software. Sometime it's PowerManager IC problem, but then You should see problem with battery level. Once- it's full, and while ago -almost empty etc. Same problem is with Amaze 4G and other with same CPU.

A friend of mine just started having this issue, after upgrading ROM.

My wife's used to have constant reboots daily, stock, rooted, then soff. All rebooted. Then I tried flashing in a certain order the worked with no more reboots.
1.full wipe
2.flash firmware(only once of course)
3.boot into recovery full wipe
4.flash rom
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G using xda premium

I only flash ROM, as I don't need to flash firmware every time.
I like ARHD ROMs. It happens even when I do full wipe and it laso started happening to a friend, who didn't have this problem before, same ROM as me.

My post says to only flash firmware once but if u flash firmware then go back to recovery you'll notice it has an error mounting a partition and to perform full wipe. Also phone doesn't boot until wiping cache and dalvik. I'm just saayong what worked for me when I thought all was lost and tried every ROM
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app

I tried wiping cache and dalvik without any benefit regarding restarts/turn-offs.
Anyway, depending on the ROM I am using, sometimes I get random restarts, sometimes turn offs.

Well I suggest trying the method I posted. I know sounds like it won't do much but I'm I'm telling u I had reboots like crazy everyday and once I flashed in that order it stopped COMPLETLY. So make a back up and try to start all over with firmware and everything.
Sent from my Dark Unicorn Resurrected v4.1 using xda premium

OK, I will try that.
Anyway, I was on stock kernel and now I just flashed SebastianFM, see how this works, better or worse.
I'm also thinking about trying another ROM.
//LE: with SebastianFM's Overclocked Kernel, I already had a few restarts :-\

[Q] Stock myTouch 4g, 100% CPU

Hi All,
I have a mt4g which is rooted with S=Off. I switch between the Sense launcher and Launcher Pro Plus. Usual apps on the phone, not too many.
For last week or so, I have been seeing that sometimes the phone gets really really laggy and Norton Util tells me that the CPU is 100%.
Also, I think most of the times, when this happens, I see a Sync icon up top. I do not sync a lot, just 2 GMail Inboxes and weather (every 6 hours). But I do see that Sync icon most of the times when this lagging happens.
I have tried removing apps, but this still seems to be a problem. I have see somewhere that turning the USB debugging to ON has helped many, but did not work for me.
I tried CM7 RC1 when it was out, but didnt like it (stock camera etc...) and I restored back to my stock ROM. Could this have done something?
Thanks
Ravneet
On your home screen hit menu key. Go to settings. Select accounts and sync. See what all is listed there. Chances are something with sense is constantly syncing.
Disable everything from syncing. See if the problem goes away. If so turn on one thing at a time until you find the culprit.
Hope that puts you in the right direction.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Have tried that. When I go there nothing is synching. Strange.
I have tried to remove all accounts from synch but still see the problem.
Went into recovery and wiped the cache about a hour ago. So far so good. Hope it stays this way.

I've noticed that there are apps that as soon as i download them, and open them that my cpu will go to 100% until I reboot my phone. System panel is a good app that isn't too obtrusive that will tell you exactly what app is doing what.
Have you installed anything new lately?
I uninstalled everything new.
Moreover I think every time this happens the battery is less than 30%. Maybe in low battery profile there are some apps which are over utilizing the CPU.

There's a couple threads like this. The stock Rom seems to have issues running rooted. Best bet would be to flash a different rom

@NicGraner: Why would the stock ROM have problems with being rooted?
I am still having this problem. Uninstalled everything that is not important.
The phone just becomes unusable and I have to reboot. Un-installed Watchdog Lite too, as I thought since it is monitoring, it is taking up some CPU in background too.
No widgets on the home screens.
I guess I am gonna do a full refresh using the PDxxx.zip and go back to stock stock and then see what happens. not sure if I will lose my root once I do that.
Try the royal glacier rom it's solid stable and the sh!t
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/2/stop-t-mobile-from-being-bought-by-att/.......
I returned 5 phones for this exact problem, then I finally got one where the usb debugging trick actually worked. Before that I was just using OSmonitor from the market to see when I was hitting 100% then I would have to yank the battery as that was the only thing that would make it stop.
When I got this new phone I installed os monitor and waited for it to happen again, which it did, then I turned on usb debugging and watched my cpu usage graph drop to 0%. SUCCESS! Unfortunately since this was my 6th phone this solution seems to be the exception rather than the rule.
I did a lot of poking around on google trying to fix this and found a lot of people with different results. Try disabling t mobile sync and go to the myaccount app in the market and uninstall the updates. If that doesn't work try getting a new sim card and sd card, or just keep returning phones until t mobile offers to send you a g2x...
Also if you search around you'll see that this isn't just a problem with the mt4g. I found multiple threads where this happens on the nexus one, and several galaxy s phones. I really hope google is aware of this.

@johnsmith970: Thanks for the info. I will try calling TMO tonight and see what they say.
I am really bugged by this now. The phone gets totally unusable once this happens.
They will say to do a factory reset. Every tech support person I talked to told me to do that. This didn't solve the problem for me at all. It still exhibited the same symptoms on a fresh reset and not even signed in to google.
I would advise calling htc support just to let them know you are having this problem. Sending back a half a dozen phones per customer can't be good for anyones wallet or their peace of mind.

I have no idea why the stock rom doesn't like being rooted it's just what's been said and the solution which is most widely given (and mostly worked unless theres an underlying problem) is to flash a custom rom.
OK! I have more information for anyone interested.
I am tracking processes now in OS Monitor app from Market.
Most of the times it is the bluetooth daemon (bluetoothd) that goes bonkers. I was connected to my GPS in my car while driving, and when I came out of the car...the bluetoothd is going bonkers...looks like it may be trying to 'find' the device it was connected to. At the same time logcat2 process is also utilizing 30+% of the CPU.
I turned off Bluetooth and both the processes went away
So let me see if this sticks for couple of days.
Thanks

If you want to keep stock rom this is what I did and its absolutely solid.
Install this stock rom:

After installing this rom flash faux123 first time kernel. After its all booted up reboot back into recovery and flash faux123 cfs rc3 kernel. I have my cpu set at 1200mhz and everything is gravy.

[Q] Sensation XE, ICS stock, launcher restarts constantly

Hi,
since some time after I updated my sensation XE to ICS (stock) I have a problem with the launcher. Nearly every time I leave an app and sometimes even right after unlocking I get a white screen with only a green HTC logo, then after some time I see a "loading" note until I can finally use my phone. Sometimes the launcher restarts again right after it just came up.
I have looked for solutions and it was suggested to turn of fastboot and stop forcing hardware acceleration, which I did. But the issue still persists. I have quite a lot of apps installed, but I don't run many simultaneously. My first bet was juice defender ultimate, but deactivating that did not help.
The task-manager shows only the following active apps: Business Calendar, Contacts and Google services framework. The battery life is also pretty good so I don't think it's a problem with too many parallel tasks.
The phone is a European sensation XE running stock android 4.0.3, 3.32.401.105.
Any suggestions?
Fate
Hi, Just use a third party launcher and disable htc sense, I had the same issue on an asian "hk" sensation xe i got from amazon and use on tmobile us. It runs a lot better now and scores 2900 on quadrant vs 2370 with sense.
as far as I am aware that would require me to root my phone. Does anyone have a solution that would not require that?
Mine does it all the time, that's why I hardly ever use sense anymore. I run sslauncher and it never happens now. I'm sure it's a bug in sense.....

Sensation Data Issues Containment Thread

Ive been having problems with my data for a while. My conclusion is its not any roms or radios ive used, its the phone. T-mobile thinks the same thing. After seeing bruce's CM10 thread clogged up with posts about it i figured we could discuss it here.
A little more explanation would help. Problems with data is vague. Specifically, what about your data connection is considered a problem ie is it not connecting? Is it disconnecting? Do you only get 3G or 4G
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
I used to have data issues all the time with CM9 & CM10. Sometimes reflashing the ROM would help, but it got to the point where I had to flash a Sense ROM to get my data working and then flash CM again. That would work for a few days, but then my data would start cutting in and out again, usually after turning off WiFi. I finally formatted my SD card and have been free of data issues for over a week now.
It seems that perhaps some file or other from Sense ROMs that is left on the SD card is causing a conflict with AOSP and/or T-Mobile's APNs.

what was your problem with your service?
and could you provide those links please?
threw the OP up this morning before an interview just to get people to shut up in bruce's thread about it. most people with issues that sound similar to mine dont seem as bad. basically, i just have terrible service. even in places where i shouldnt. my network when i get to either 3g or H just bounces between the two. even the one time i actually got full bars of 3g it just kept bouncing to H and then bouncing back. if i have two bars of edge in my livingroom and try to send a text, itll just drop the service completely. if someone makes a call to me and im on 2 bars or less of any network it will just drop the network completely. happened once i moved from vegas to phoenix, flashed every ril/radio combination i could find. every one is the same. talked to other users in close proximity to me with a sensation and they said they get great service everywhere. happens on every rom as well. messed with APN settings, went to the store and got a new sim card. everything. Like i said, im certain my issues are worse than everyone elses but itd be interesting to see what different groups of people are experiencing with data issues to see if its something with our phones.
BTW - tmo at the store said "buy a new phone" AWESOME customer service i must say.

I had this exact same problem on cm9. I've had to take refuge in viper's sense 4 rom until I could figure out what caused it. I was able to fix it once before by flashing a combo of roms and radios. Then it happened again and just stayed on viper as it doesn't reoccur on a sense rom.
Note: This happened to me before cm10 was even developed. I was running AOKP at the time. It also happened on a backup that was 2 weeks old before the problem first happened so its not entirely rom related.

So this sounds just like my issue. I've been running on BADOSP's ROM which is based on AOKP M6 for the past week or more with zero issues with data connectivity. Never a problem getting 3G/H where I was supposed to. I flashed CM9 last night to check it out and decided against it and reverted to my backup. I was running fine through the night on my backup but then set it in airport mode last night, came out of it and flashed a basic AOKP install for fun this morning. After that I can't get a data connection to stick on any AOSP type ROM. Not in CM9, not in AOKP, I've cleared/formated EVERYTHING went to backups of systems that used to work and now don't, nothing. Finally, I had a nandroid from Vipers Sense4 rom as well and it was basically exactly the same - seeking refuge for a working system in the mean time.
Seems no matter what now I cannot make an AOSP ROM work but I'm at least functional in a Sense 4 ROM. I would love to know what happened if anybody figures it out.

So in case anybody else finds this. I was having no problems in sense based roms it seems and only AOSP roms fail to establish a data connection. I had read a few posts in different places about wiping the SD Card but I didn't want to do that for nothing. So I restored a nandroid of an AOKP ROM and then selected to power off from EXT4 instead of rebooting. I then popped out my SD Card and powered on. It took a minute for the data to establish but it worked. I put the SD Card back in and it kept working. I have rebooted since then and it STILL works. I'm not sure what prompts the problem but ultimately this solved it for me. Been running 24 hours now with no issues. Hope this helps somebody else.

Unfortunately, this worked for a day and a half. This morning it suddenly started doing what it was doing again. Haven't had any time to troubleshoot or try anything as I'm about to be traveling so I had to revert to Viper's Sense ROM again.
I'm also having the same problem. It just started a couple of days ago when I was running CM9. I figured a wipe and flash would fix it. I am now on CM10 and still having the same problem. Anyone have a solution?

[Q] Are you kidding me?

Why are our sensations rebooting like crazy these days?At first, I thought it was just my phone, but soon realized everyone has the same issue.
No matter what ROM I install, my phone turns off randomly. Whats going on? Someone please help if they have a solution cos I am seriously beginning to hate my sensation.
It has been about a year since most sensations were bought...
That's 500 charging cycles and for some batteries that's enough
Take your battery out and see if it got swollen or some liquid oily marks are visible, or even tiny silvery cracks.. those indicate the battery is dying.

Could this reboots be caused by bad radio or firmware? I am getting them too, pretty often and the story is same - different roms, nothing changed.
Have you tried This or This?

Need more information. Are you overclocking too high? Undervolting? Flashing back and forth between kernels without reverting some of the files they change? Mixing 3.32/3.33 firmwares and ROMs? Matching radio/RIL combos? Restoring old data through Titanium Backup? There's a whole bunch of stuff that could cause reboots TBH.
Have you tried running stock (firmware, kernel, ROM, radio) for a few days to see if the reboots keep coming? If they do, then it's your hardware and you should look into warranty if you still have one. If not, then it's something you're doing during your setup process.
I've just been running rooted stock ICS lately and my phone has been incredibly stable. I did get some reboots last week, but it turns out they were caused by the recent update to Google Maps. I uninstalled the updates and the problem went away.
Had mine a year and never had reboot issues!
You know what I love most about this thread?
The complete lack of usefull information like logcats, last_kmsg, and other logs as well as kernel info, firmware info, UV status/OC status.
@OP get those things then we can help more
My guess is you've updated your gmaps. Anything that uses any oart of gmaps/location service is fubared on the last update.
Thanks guys for the replies. Well as suggested I have formated my sd card, super wiped (using ARHD superwipe script) and installed the viper 1.1 ROM.So far no reboots, and I will not update google maps.Have been changing ROM's like crazy, so this must have messed up my phone. I will post logcats and other info if I get reboots now.

[Q] HTC Sensation Keeps Shutting Off by Itself

A very good day to everyone.
I have been using my HTC Sensation for a year and a half already and recently it's starting to crank up.
It started last week when I was using my phone when suddenly it just switched off by itself and no matter how I attempted to switch it back on again it would boot up to the lock screen page and baam, it shuts off again. It doesn't restarts by itself or anything, it just simply switches off and no, I am unable to switch it on again. The only time I am able to do so again is when I plug it into a power source, that is when it would finally be able to start up.
At first I thought that it wasn't something big until recently it started occuring more frequently and I noticed that it only occurs whenever I have my 3G switched on. If I'm plugged in, my phone would still be working without switching off even though I have my 3G switched on. But when I unplug it from its power source, I'll be able to use it with 3G on for a good 20-30mins or even lesser at times and there it goes shutting off by itself again. What actually got me dumbfounded is how I can be having 80% of battery power when this happens.
I have tried the using a card/paper as a wedge for the battery so that it connects better but to no avail even though I have noticed that indeed, my battery seems to have some extra allowance for it to fidget about within the confinements of the spot which is allocated for the battery. I have tried the switching the phone's data usage to GSM only as well as switching it to WCDMA only but both still didn't work. I have also done a factory wipe which didn't work, super wiped it before flashing ARHD once again which didn't work as well.
To make things worse, my phone is not covered under warranty anymore and my only last hope is that the problem lies with my phone's battery rather than the PCB board which is why I'm putting all my hope on the Anker battery which stocks would only come in next Monday which I don't wanna spend on only to find out that it's not gonna be able to save my phone from its miserable plight...
This is my phone's setup:
Android Version 4.0.3
Sense Version 3.6
Software Number - Android Revolution HD 6.8.0 XE by mik1986
Kernel Version - 3.0.16-g31a4fc7 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT
Baseband Version - 11.76A.3504.00P_11.24A.3504.31_M
I'm really desperate to find a solution to this so if there's anyone of you who has faced this issue/solved this issue please enlighten me as to what I can do, any/all help would be greatly appreciated.
Try other Roms..yrs might be unstable...

I've tried other ROMS already but it still force shuts itself whenever my phone's 3G is switched on. Any solutions?
seems like a radio problem ..reflash the firmware you are having or ..flash 3.33/3.32 universal firmware from kohr-ah firmware thread in sensation development section
once done ..get getril app ..open it and flash proper ril for the firmware if you not having matching ril
I've been using the 3.33 firmware for quite a while already but it's still not working. :/

I'd add to that to reflash it using a fresh download of the firmware file. It's possible (though slightly unlikely) that you have a tiny corruption of your existing firmware file so reflashing it might just put the same error back. I say that's unlikely because errors in the radio file of firmware would likely be causing you bigger problems than you are saying. But a new download and fresh flash won't hurt.
Or try switching to the 3.32 firmware (They aren't much different) just to see if it makes a difference. If not you can at least rule that out.
Just a head's up though, after you flash a new firmware file, reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik or you will likely just get a bootloop at the boot animation when trying to start it the first time.
I had the same problem - the battery was broken, had to buy a new one, search for "Anker" on amazon
It would help a lot of we had your last_kmsg file. To get the file, you can use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.solarnz.apps.lumberjack. Get the last_kmsg file RIGHT AFTER your phone shuts down and turns back on so we can see what made it shut down. Then, attach the file to your first post so we can see it

I've tried reflashing the 3.33 firmware but it keeps telling me that the installation has been aborted.

I've tried this method of yours as well but apparently it tells me the same thing when I try to flash the firmware. "Installation aborted" and I don't know why is this happening...

I've found a seller over here in my country who I'm going to be meeting tomorrow and finally test it out as to whether has it been my battery's problem or is it just my hardware being faulty. Will test it out and let you know of the end results, thanks mate!

But after it shuts down I have to connect it to a charger before I can switch it on again, would that affect the log?

No, it would not.
Thanks for all the help guys, got myself a new Anker battery and apparently that seems to have solved the problem so far... It has yet to shut off on me or anything for the past 6 hours with my 3G switched on throughout.

Definitely! Thank goodness it was just the battery otherwise there goes a great phone. Not to mention that with the anker battery it has a greater and better lifespan!

My situation is identical to yours. 1,5 years old, constantly rebooting, after reboot the battery power drops to 4%. If it's connected to the power cord it works normally. Already ordered Anker battery and I'll see what happens.
If I look closely, I can see that my battery is a little bloated and not completely flat. Did anybody else noticed that?
So I guess all of this should be written on HTC Sensation FAQ page since it's not a bug, but a feature...
