I know a lot of people hate the AT&T toggles but I sort of prefer them over the Verizon ones.Maybe the mod can be made to enable us to use either one on the AT&T version and Verizon version.
Do you think it'll be possible if you can make the att toggles for verizon?

My uncle gave me a new Verizon samsung galaxy s3 because he switched over to AT&T and bought an iPhone 5.. I personally myself have an iPhone 5 too, but I been trying to try out this s3. He gave it to me and this is the first time I ever use a phone other than an iPhone.. When I turn it on, on the bottom of the screen it says, custom, what does this mean?
I been reading about the different roms or whatever, how do I know which one is installed so far? I know it's a verizon 1535, and I'm in the process of trying to unlock it using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32900970&postcount=221
However I want to know how I can check what rom or whatever I got (jellybean etc), I am completely new to this and don't know anything at all. I just want it to be up to date on the latest firmware so I can unlock it and use it for a couple weeks to see how it compares to the iPhone.. Thanks guys
I'm a news too, so anything else I should know or check about this phone, please let me know.. Like baseband, or anything of that nature.. I want to know everything thanks
So just to clarify, your trying to use the Verizon S3 on AT&T?
Edit: You can check if the phone has a custom rom by going into settings and scroll down to the bottom and click about phone and post what it says under Legal Information. It should show Model number, Android Version, Baseband Version, Kernal, and Build number
Also if it is showing Custom, it may already be unlocked. I would suggest doing alot of reading in the stickies before you try anything. This is a totally different animal than an iPhone and you can do some serious damage of you don't know what you are doing. Good luck and keep asking questions, after you do some reading, of coarse.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to do.. And I tried reading the stickies but there's so many threads, just talking about roms and etc
Model version : SCH-1535
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband : 1535VRLHE
Hardware Version : 1535.10
That's what it says
Kernel : 3.0.8-1092717
And I have an iPhone 5 sim, but it already fits in the tray. I'm just trying to make this the easiest possible, thanks for the replies btw
I'd recommend just using the GS3 as is for now so you can become familiar with Android. How can you know what changes you want if you've never even used the stock version?
You'll definitely need a new sim since they're different sizes. VZW will give one to you for free.

To clarify, you had a VZW iPhone5 with the new micro SIM, got a tray to fit the normal mini SIM, and are using that in this new VZW SGS3?
If not,you have a Verizon phone: The sims are completely different in more than just size: AT&T needs if for all GSM, VZW just uses it for LTE and the CDMA portion is tied to the phone ID/programming.
What do you mean "make it official for AT&T?" Do you want to use it on AT&T? If so, see above. If you mean official for VZW, go get a SIM from a corporate store (unless the whole old iPhone one is working with the tray).

I have AT&T, and am using my iPhone 5 currently. I have a verison gs3 without a sim that I want to unlock and use. I have a sim tray that converts my AT&T micro nano sim, to a regular micro sim. The problem is, I want to unlock the gs3, and use it with AT&T.
But what rom or whatever do I have with the above information? And I been reading the thread, but there iPod read there's an update that allows the phone to be used globally without doing anything. That's why I'm asking

Go search through this thread, it's your only possibility: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1809314
First post on pg 23, saw some attempts to do what you want, but didn't read through it all to confirm working in that manner.
Changing the ROM isn't going to do what your looking for, you need to be completely changing the way the phone works.

From the sounds of it, you seem stock, read and read more, Verizon gs3 doesn't work with international version of the gs3 roms if you try you'll end up with a brick.it's Kool you wanna try out the gs3, but it's really different from an iPhone.

You have to use Verizon gs3 ROMs with that phone. You could try incubus touchwiz hybrid roms I believe there was at&t one. Maybe the note2 rls9. If that's not what your looking for just Google and if it can be done you will find it somewhere.
You might also look under the device settings. Many time custom ROM builders will put the name of their ROM in the Build number.

I forgot to add that coming from the iPhone you may not know how to get there. You'll need to go the main screen (which usually is what you start on when you turn your phone on) then the menu button and settings then look at the very bottom for "About Phone". How that helps.

Yeah so I could download any roam from this section of the forum? Since its specifically for the verison gs3, can I leave the phone normal and still use it for AT&T or do I need to be on a custom rom or something?

I am switching to T-Mobile pre paid and am looking for a stock t-mobile rom that is ported for our phones. I am pretty sure I have seen one here but now that I need it I cant find it.
I want all the wireless calling and other bells and whistles to work. I am working on porting one myself but its my first time so I still have some bugs to work out.
Thanks

Yeah I found that and even gave it a go for a few days, but basically its just directions to get t-mobile service on any verizon rom.
I had a real t-mobile rom working for a short time but started running into force closes and such. Having the real thing is nice because it gives account information plus wireless calling.
With XLTE rolling out it would be kinda nice to see which LTE frequency band I'm connected to in different places. Anyone found an equivalent to the old ##2546# dial codes like on older devices?
Good luck. I've been trying to find a way since the day the phone came out. I've had aws in my area for about 4 months now and unlike with my s4, I have yet to find a way to tell with lte band I'm on other than guessing at speedtest results

the option for these codes could be removed from custom ROM
It wouldn't be included in a custom ROM unless the creator specifically put it in there, I would imagine. The diagnostic menu was made by the HTC developers...

Right, but CleanROM is basically just a stripped down version of the stock ROM, so that's a given. When I say custom, perhaps I should say AOSP, or not based on the stock ROM.

I have been having trouble with it on all OA8 roms. I will set my notification tone in Settings and it will play the right tone in the preview, but app notification settings that have "default" set somehow plays the last set tone. I'm having to reset inside the app. Very frustrating.

well some apps do have their own notification sound that overrides the one in settings.. that is why some apps need to be set to use the default or what you choose in settings.. either way, i know its real difficult and time consuming to set it in the app but its not something anyone can modify unless perhaps they modify each app to use it by default which is not going to happen

Are you serious? Why would jrkruse post it in this thread if it didnt work WITH OUR DEVICE, ON VERIZON IN THE USA.
OF COURSE IT DOES. Verizon ONLY operates in the USA.
He took the latest stock deodexed L rom from the international thread and MADE IT COMPATIBLE for us VERIZON USA USERS IN THE USA VERIZON S5 THREAD AND POSTED IT HERE.
He would not have posted it here if it wasnt for our device. How is that hard to understand? There is only ONE Verizon carrier.
I really do not see how this is confusing at all.

he would not post a rom that didnt work.. that would be pretty rediculous if it didnt work on verizon in the usa.. thered be no reason to even post it.
I assume he changed everything necessary to make it function on verizon in the usa (only place verizon operates)
and the original question clearly asks if it will work on our device which is how i answered it and that it will.

Don't be annoyed or feel offended or anything.

So from my understanding, the primary bootloader chooses which firmwares will run. Verizon hasn't released 6.0 for the GS5, so our bootloaders don't allow it. But, why can we run things like CM13? Would it be possible to run N at some point?

But the wait time is downright awful and how could VZW not even release 5.1.1 which fixed a lot of 5.0's problems.... A developer recently said he is going to try to port the Sprint 6.0.1 S5 update to our VZW's I imagine it can't be extremely difficult but who knows as I'm not a developer.
Because all Verizon cares about is trying to lock us down with all the stupid security updates I bet they are trolling these forums and that's why they keep pushing out their garbage
