i havent had notification tones not stick on any oa8 rom lol
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app

I have been having trouble with it on all OA8 roms. I will set my notification tone in Settings and it will play the right tone in the preview, but app notification settings that have "default" set somehow plays the last set tone. I'm having to reset inside the app. Very frustrating.

well some apps do have their own notification sound that overrides the one in settings.. that is why some apps need to be set to use the default or what you choose in settings.. either way, i know its real difficult and time consuming to set it in the app but its not something anyone can modify unless perhaps they modify each app to use it by default which is not going to happen

very few replies here! that usually means things are running smoothly? is that the case?

Does this NOT work on Verizon USA S5 phones? What got updated/changed in this compared to OA8?

Are you serious? Why would jrkruse post it in this thread if it didnt work WITH OUR DEVICE, ON VERIZON IN THE USA.
OF COURSE IT DOES. Verizon ONLY operates in the USA.
He took the latest stock deodexed L rom from the international thread and MADE IT COMPATIBLE for us VERIZON USA USERS IN THE USA VERIZON S5 THREAD AND POSTED IT HERE.
He would not have posted it here if it wasnt for our device. How is that hard to understand? There is only ONE Verizon carrier.
I really do not see how this is confusing at all.

he would not post a rom that didnt work.. that would be pretty rediculous if it didnt work on verizon in the usa.. thered be no reason to even post it.
I assume he changed everything necessary to make it function on verizon in the usa (only place verizon operates)
and the original question clearly asks if it will work on our device which is how i answered it and that it will.

LOL.......ok guys. I was just CONFIRMING that this does work on USA Verizon S5 (non-Dev) phones. I wanted to confirm because it seemed strange that this thread is rather dead and nobody really seemed to care much about a whole new Lollipop update.
I heard that this update FIXES/Removes the issues and annoyances people were having with Lollipop's new notification system.
Don't be annoyed or feel offended or anything.

How are you guys liking this? Any pros/cons vs the VZW lolipop release posed by jrkruse?

well that's underwhelming for people who like to use the stock firmware, wonder if verizon will get jellybean out for the s3 this year...was at my local vzw store yesterday and the sales guy was surprised to see a touchwiz-less S3 running jellybean. then i got an earful about voiding warranty when all i went there to do was get a sim for my wife's nexus. (my old phone, just replaced it with the S3 this week)
Happy to see that error being killed. A couple of areas around Rochester are basically s3 dead zones thanks to that. Not quite as exciting as jb but... enough to make me happy.

The JB upgrade will most likely come in late 1st Q.
No new radios? Nothing updated that needs to be?
Typical verizon and this ****, didn't a UK Update come out in July that fixed some issues? Where the hell is that one...
I had a sim error once, when I went to install my SD card I realized the vzw rep didn't fully insert the sim card... never again since then.

This is a Verizon only issue that NEEDS to be fixed. It is bull that Verizon wasted time locking down the bootloader that they screwed up their device... but to people who live in one of the "dead zones" the phone is all but useless as anything except a music player. Just because it's not an issue you have suffered doesn't mean it's not a necessary and needed fix.

The NO SIM error is ridiculous, and I am glad this will fix it. For those who don't know, some people can hardly use their S3 at times. I've had instances where every time I try to send a text for 20-30 minutes, it says sending, I lose all connections (no network at all) for a minute or two, then it reconnects, rinse, repeat. This happens when trying to send texts AND making a phone call. Imagine if you had an emergency and every time you tried to call your network dropped for 2 minutes.
But I don't know what else this will do to the phone. Disable current root methods? Bootloader issues?

Yes, many of us have the same issues, even in great 4G areas like DC. No new sim card or handset replacement would ever fix it. Took long enough for VZW to release this fix.
As usual if you are rooted/unlocked/running a ROM do NOT download the OTA update. Wait less than 24 hours for someone on the forums to debloat and flash manually. Obviously if you are stock, rooted, and locked go ahead and take the update VZW pushes out.

Anybody else surprised there was no leak for this build? Or any other build for that matter? Especially having it go live within the week. I don't know maybe seeing so many leaks on previous devices over the years has left me spoiled. Regardless I am looking forward to some new radios.

I'm not familiar with how these updates work on a Samsung phone.....I had a droid x2 and when that phone received and OTA update it would prompt you to download and install the update. I am assuming this will work the same way? I'm stock unrooted but don't want to get stuck that way....I'll let a few people here download and install and say it's safe before installing

That's not good. I really have no desire to root the phone at this point but this may push me in that direction. I'm surprised that's legal.... When updating you typically lose all service briefly, which I would think is a choice up to the user. I would be pissed as hell if this thing updated without me ok'ing it.

phone search still nerfed, doubt that ones coming back in the USA.
I had this no sim error only in a few places around my home area... but one of those areas included my house. Two new sim cards and two new S3s later, I am extremely happy to hear about this fix! Oddly enough, I never got a no sim error here on a 2 week business trip to Utah.
Had to manually load the update tho, now all is well! Thx for the tip!

I just bought this model number today. Is this firmware just for people that bricked their phones? I rooted mine today without issue and hope that there will be all the other goodies available like on my samsung phone. The guy at Sprint told me that there were already custom roms and recovery, but I found out he was wrong.
Can't find it anywhere on that link. I wouldn't mind having a stock unrooted restore in hand. This is all that's preventing me from rooting.

MagicJack also works for free phone call's. They give you a random Florida or Wisconsin number when you make a call, and no one can call you back, but for free it's nice. I think if you have a MagicJack hardware device you can use that number with the APP and have in/out calls free over wifi. It works very well with my Verizon Galaxy Nexus (unlimited data plan) on wifi tether

There is no Nexus 5 Google Play Edition.. Only the Nexus 5. If you haven't gotten the update yet and are completely stock (not rooted) you can side load the update via adb through your PC. You won't lose and data and it will be exactly like doing the update via OTA. Head over to androidpolice.com where they have the update file and instructions on how to do it. Its really easy

If you are running a custom recovery then you may (thanks marleyfan61) get the OTA update notification but as jdawg0024 said you can always side load it if you wish.
You can get the factory images for you Nexus 5 from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=de#hammerhead.
However, do NOT use the flash-all (.bat for Windows & .sh for Mac/Linux) files to load it without a backup as it will wipe all apps and data, provided your bootloader is unlocked (correct me if I am wrong about this last part).

Percent Enabler doesn't even require root and will not stop you from receiving a system update as I have updated and also use a percent enabler.
If you're on stock the message would appear anyways, only the installation might later fail if you had modified system files.
ie. you simply haven't recieved it yet. Patience, grasshopper.

naw, i haven't gotten it still,
& ain't even lookin for it,
i'm stock 4.4.2 & have all lte bands enabled,
whatever ecsfb issues that plaque others on sprint, *dont bodda me*
i don't wory about stupid settings like *lte only* or *cdma only* to produce a half functional device; that's only meant for testing purposes, not for main driver purposes..
.. my sh*ts works fully , because i researched the hell outta how to make it work..
they can keep 4.4.3...

maan, i stand TOTALLY corrected..
i just stepped outside in the garden before leaving work, with phone in hand, band 41 popped up instantedly! ~attachments~
when i originally enabled those bands w/o the update, b41 was as elusive as a dream date, now i can't keep it off of me.. lol
it never showed up in this uptown area before
& the handovers are nice, as soon as i came back in the basement, it switched from b41 DIRECTLY to a weak, but usable, b26..
~edit~
lmao.. it JUST switched to ehrpd.. guess that'sa more stable connection..
i need to, this weekend, go up top, to b'more, and /or ny, where the spark market is mature, to see what, things are all about..

T-Mobile WiFi Calling App Port

I was searching but haven't found a these thread with this app. Any who got news on this.

That is not something that anybody has been able to duplicate. You can simply use Google Hangouts but unfortunately it will be with another number. THe N6 is supposed to have it with an update sometime next year. I read that somewhere.
Remember that is a stock T-Mobile function
It wont happen. Unless T-Mobile puts out a wifi calling app to the play store. In the Nexus 4 forum there was a bounty of like $3,000 to get it working and they never did. I've read that Lollipop has made it easier to implement so hopefully an app gets released in the future.
Yes I know that it's a stocked function on T-Mobile phones. Many stock functions have been ported, reconfigured, tricked and used on other phones. This is XDA all we need is someone with the "know-how". I'm pretty sure its not a hardware issue therefore it is fair game. I seen a thread were we can configure more base bands to get more signals!!! This definitely falls in that genre of work.

If it were that easy it would of been done a long time ago. The issue was T-Mobile had no AOSP phones with wifi calling already in it. This was more than like the issue with porting it over. But now when the N6 gets wifi calling or wifi unleashed as it called we should then see some port attempts

Thanks for the clarification, I am hoping sometime in February we will have our answer.

Sprint LG V20

Creating this in hopes for our own sub section and discussion since we get as much love as Trump out here. Lol. Yes, I came from the LG G3 so I should know.
So, how much do you guys like the V20?
And does anybody know what happens after you go past the measly 5gb hotspot sprint is giving out?
Oh yeah, any status on root progress or unlocked bootloader?
I will have my sprint v20 this week. I know chainfire got SuperSU installed on the Tmobile variant. We have to wait and see what happens on sprint.
Sprint variant is missing a much of stock apps. Email being one of them. AT&T V20 has a stock email app.
I think it is also missing stock gallery app. too...

Can you boot into the bootloader on the sprint devices. And do you have the oem unlock option in developer settings?
Sprint removed all fastboot features of phone. We cannot access the bootloader unfortunately. OEM Unlock is in developer options how ever but it doesn't do anything.

Verified that I have OEM unlock option in developer settings.
I don't know how to boot into the bootloader. Can you advise steps?

No and yes.
When you boot into recovery and attempt to boot into the bootloader it just initiates a normal boot.

Them letting Sprint gimpo the phone by removing the email app and galery app is rediculous. There are a lot of people like me coming from note 7 who were on the fence between the larger size of the LG v20 and the familiar samsung experience of the s7 edge. Realizing the email and gallery app and god knows what else is removed by sprint might just be the straw that breaks the camels back to get me to return this for an s7 edge plus, or just run my note 4 till the s8 comes out. rediculous!

All the threads are explaining that the apps cant be sideloaded onsprint version. If you have a workaround please share.
I sideloaded the gallery app just fine. I didn't sideload any email apps cause I using Inbox and Gmail app. Don't know who is having issues but as long as the apk file is pulled out and you install the apk (not some flashable zip which won't work on any unrooted phone) should work just fine. Let me find my post where I posted the gallery apk file.

Thank you! The gallery app worked. The email one would make my day if anyone can find a working apk the ones ive tried say they are corrupt and cant be installed
Once people start rooting the Tmobile version I assume we can get the apk files from them. I also assume at some point LG and Sprint will push an update giving us these apps as well.

I uploaded the music apk and the email apk , using several methods, yet people said the devices showed the file as corrupted as if Tmobile did something to the apps, or Sprint probably has different signatures for the apps. i checked the files for corruption and it came out clean.
I don't think it is possible to simply pull an apk out of a flashable zip and get it to install correctly. It has been my experience in the past with other phones that never worked for me. We need a true apk file maybe saved by TB or some other backup type program.
The bigger issue is that messaging app and email app are probably system apps and without root we will never be able to get those to be that sideloading them.

I'm surprised you guys are that worried about it, I haven't used stock email apps in years and for a gallery app, took all of 5 seconds to look on the play store for a decent one
If you have that new ad blocker, turn it off then try to install apks.
Ad blocker requires root right? So none of us have that.
I don't care about stock email or messaging, but rather was just trying to dissuade people from returning their phone just because of that small (IMHO) oversight.
Coming from the Note 7 this phone, the V20 is disappointing, but there isn't a phone out there like the Note 7, so I'll wait it out a year or two with this one and hope Samsung has their act together then.

The new ad blocker doesn't require root. Search the v20 threads. Plus I've been notified that the bug I mentioned had been reported.
Welp. I've jumped ship. Went to tmobile due to hotspot. After those 5 gb Sprint gives, its too slow to even run Chromecast.
