Slow browsing? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So when I'm browsing the internet its extremely slow for such a high end device, I read on another site there's a problem with the wifi? Anyone had this issue and found a fix?

It's hard to tell what "slow browsing" means. It could be a factor of the sites, other processes you have running, the browser you're using, the rom, the kernel...
To validate your wifi speed, run a speed test app to check you're getting a decent speed, and then go from there.

quick question about data speed

On my speed test app.. I get like 500kb down and 1000up
But my browsing speed is still very zippy..
Before I flashed my radio the data speed test was 3000kb down but the web browsing still feels the same...
Does this data speed test really reflect what's going on??
I think yes and no. Your data speeds depend on traffic volume as well as what your running. Sometimes the speed test puts you on a server not in your area. Hope this helps
I think it really depends on the area your in doing the test and time of day . For the most part after rooting and flashing the kingdom rom 0.1 I noticed data wasn't as fast on speedtest like it was before the ota update from att

Browser Speed

I posted this on another forum, and the conclusion was that flash support is why I've found that nearly all web pages load faster on my wife's iPhone 4 than my Thunderbolt.
I'm not really satisfied with that answer... does anybody else notice that there is a delay before web pages actually load? The delay is usually a second or more, and occurs in all the browser's I've tried so far. On my wife's iPhone 4, there is absolutely no delay on loading most sites. I've put the phones side to side, and gone to a variety of websites doing my best to press the load button at the same time. iPhone always loads the page initially quicker than the Thunderbolt.
After the second or so delay, web pages load pretty quick, but that delay really gives the feeling of a sluggish browsing experience.
Any way to remedy this? I've tried turning off flash support, but had no luck.
UPDATE: Made a quick video comparison. It's obviously NOT a well-controlled experiment . I'm sure there is a couple millisecond difference between finger pushes on each phone, but either way the iPhone loads the page quicker. I just recorded whitehouse.gov, since neither phone has been on that site AFAIK since we got them. But I assure you that the same difference happens on most other websites. I'm in a well-covered 4g area, and speed tests the past couple of weeks ranged from 10 - 20 mbps down and 6-15 mbps up, so I don't think that's the problem. I'm using the Miren browser in this video, but I've also tried Oper HD, dolphin lite, and the stock browsers.

It's not a 'problem' per se. I love the phone. I'm just wondering a) if anybody else has noticed this, and b) if anybody has any alternative explanations for why browsing, at least for me, doesn't seem blazing fast... particularly since I'm on the 4G LTE network, and the only other phone I've had experience with (iPhone) seems to have a faster browsing experience despite being limited to 3G.
The stock browser is sluggish. I have noticed the same thing with the browser hanging but only on sense roms. I switched to miren browser and all is well.

I have noticed this. I'm rooted but on the stock ROM and I see significant slowness in the browser. Sometimes the browser will not load a page at all and the bar will stay at around 75% complete and never go any further. If I close the browser and try again it will sometimes completely load but most times I just have to wait and try it later. This is not what I was experiencing when I first got it.
None of my browsers fail to begin loading the page immediately after I hit "go" :/

Coming from the Archos and ViewSonic tablets, plus Galaxy S phones, I got in the habit of only using Dolphin Browser.
My TBolt is fine in Dolphin Browser, and exceeds the Archos A70 that I use every day. I try to maintain low expectations, that way I can be positively surprised.
The stock browser works very smoothly for me on cm7, and I'm not overclocked. You could always try dolphin or opera.
xScope is my favorite for speed and features.
I only use the stock browser for Hulu now.

If my GFs iphone loaded pages more quickly than my Tbolt on 4G, I would definitely consider that a problem. What are your typical 4G download speeds? I get between 14-20 Mbps on speakeasy.net (stock browser)

Going to try and take a video of the comparison if I can tonight so you guys can judge.

gun bros unreliable

Im becoming just way too frustrated... fell in love with this game but my problem is that it doesnt work consistantly. Sometimes i open the application and its blazing fast... no lag on the home screens or even ingame at the hardest levels... other times i find it to be extremely laggy or even keeps getting stuck at the loading screen. Ive tried messing up with the cpu speeds and killing other tasks and i found absolutely no correlation between number of tasks running or the CPU clock speed used. Even got it blazing fast once while underclocked... and othertimes when its on performance setting... it struggles to go through the home screens of the game....
Does any one know why this sort of inconsistency is happening? Can I fix it?
( btw if you think it might be from some unexpected apps hogging up the CPU, ive already monitored my CPU usage and removed the one app that used to do that. now whenever im on my home screen ( golauncher) my cpu usage is consistantly 25% or less )
would greatly appreciate any input. thanks guys

theres not much we can do for 3rd party apps. you would have to contact the developer of it. Not to mention youve not told us anything about your phone. or what rom you are running, you could look at cpu usage in your info menu of your inspire *#*#4636#*#*
honestly it just sounds like the app isnt compatible with what you are running.

im using an htc inspire 4G on rooted stock rom. also I was just wondering if this could be something from my settings because the occasional lag seems to happen with other games as well just not as bad as this one.
By the way, I saw that you have an ATT logo near your profile so perhaps you can help me out with another problem. An app called stocks was using up a lot of my CPU all the time so I removed it even though it was in system files. could this be part of the problem?
thanks for the help
Nope. I've got an Inspire & i always remove the stocks apk, as well as others, as soon as i load a new ROM

Have you removed anything else from there. Like, did you root it just to remove the stocks app? What all have you loaded/deleted.
I only have the att icon because i use their service. Ive always removed apps i dont use, stocks, twitter, the social network stuff ive never heard of etc etc. never had any issues.
i rooted to get proxydroid then removed the stocks app coz it was just taking up so much cpu all the time... appart from that all other apps are well behaved if u will and i kept them
anyways i figured it out and its a weird reason. it seems like whenever im getting a bad wifi reception the entire thing goes slow ... if i turn off wifi other apps are fast again but gunbros for whatever reason is still slow untill i turn it back on and move closer to a router... i gues nit miust be an app flow... will try to retest this ans confirm my theory later

Masqued crusader?

I was having slow downloads...I even tried complaining to Verizon saying my 3g was going faster than my 4g...they said I might be getting better 3g signal than my 4g...SO...I found this app I paid for and didn't notice much when I had my fascinate and tried it on my CHARGE...Iam noticing download times almost cut in half...iam not sure why...does anyone know of a better internet speed enhancer or notice it being faster when using this app?
simply tweaked 3.o...dressed in adw and other paid apps

I use network signal:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet
By the looks of that app it is more for signal than enhancement. .
Tweaked 3.0 and Transparent ICS 5.0 Beta
Yeah...I looked at it...this crusader app is working but not sure if it is because it only uses dedicated servers or if it is doing it some other way...like tasker ...or an app prioritizer...I was basically asking if I had been fooled...I don't know much about it
simply tweaked 3.o...dressed in adw and other paid apps
It looks like
1. It uses Google's DNS instead of Verizon's (or whoever the stock is) which is faster by virtue
2. Also creates a local "cache" of DNS lookups for your most frequently visited sites so they load even faster.
Am I wrong? Only scratching the surface? that's all I gleaned from the description.

Lag *fix*

This supposed lag fix has blown up over at r/android. I tried it on my G2x and it for sure booted up the launcher faster on startup. Check it out!

Thanks for sharing, looks pretty promising. Going to test it out for a bit .
I was wondering if this matters whether CM7 or cm10?
Thanks for sharing this. Installed the apk and it seems a little quicker with things, but that might just be in my head.
I'm not sure if it ****s on your battery life or not, seems like my battery just demolished itself, but now that I think about it I got 6 hours on 52%
Thus why I don't have it

I've installed it last night. My usual morning lag that I experience wasn't there so I believe there is some merit to what this mod is supposed to provide. I'll be tracking the battery life, as that's more important to me than a reboot once a day.
Yes I can also confirm that this app works. Even makes one of my slowest apps (amazon appstore) open much faster. Everything is a bit quicker.
My only concern is battery life, which I am going to be testing over the weekend. Loving the mod so far though.
I can verify this works well use to take close to a minut to load my xda ap lol. Not so any more. Also switching from app drawer to home screen, no lag. I used v6 supercharger for a while and i think that for now im just gonna use this. My phome is much more responsive than it use to be, especially when opening my settings menu. I will be paying attention to battery as well. Thanks for your work.
Edit. My cpu clock speed magically set it self to 1552. Dont ask me how that happened cuz i dont know. Now normally at this speed my phone would freeze. How do i know this? Cus its happened on more than one occasion. I dont overclock anymore because of it. I ran this app all day with no adverse effects. I cant say one way or another if this app works because i dont know when my phone was set to overclock. With the controversy surrounding this.... Im glad i didnt pay 1.50 for it or id feel like a really dumb***

RC calls BS
https://plus.google.com/115049428938715274412/posts/GWr72W9zmY2
From his post:
"So to be clear... IMNSHO, the recent entropy pool fad is bull****. The only users of /dev/random are libcrypto (used for cryptographic operations like SSL connections, ssh key generation, and so on), wpa_supplicant/hostapd (to generate WEP/WPA keys while in AP mode), and the libraries that generate random partition IDs when you do an ext2/3/4 format. None of those 3 users are in the path of app execution, so feeding random from urandom does nothing except make random... well... less random
The only conceivable reason some devices may feel faster is because by constantly polling the PRNG, it keeps the device's I/O in constant use (which in turn, depending on device, will make the CPU stick to higher clock frequencies to keep up and/or ramp up the IO scheduler)."
Yes it's bullish**. The whole explanation for this mod doesn't make sense and I just can't figure out how this would help at all. As RC said excellently, it would simply prevent I/O functions to go to sleep and keep your CPU higher. TL;DR : Raise your CPU clocks, change your I/O scheduler and you'll get better performances.
One more thing... I dont know when my phone was set to overclock but here are some interesting screen shots for you.
This is a 1500Mah stock battery. The original batter. I got with the phone over a year ago btw.
Something to cbew on i think. My phone has never run this well. Wtf?

Isn't faster performance accomplished by keeping the I/O constantly running and the CPU at higher clock speed than it would otherwise be?
Call me crazy but using this made my phone constantly stay in deep sleep! I've never, ever seen my phone stay asleep for so long and so consistently before.

I've been using this mod for a little over a week. While RC might be right about what this mod really is doing, my phone hasn't been snappier. As for battery life, I've lost about 10% more battery a day using this. I've got the Anker 2800mWh battery, and at the end of the day I'm usually sitting around 55-60% battery remaining. On hard use days I'd be around 30% battery remaining. Overall I'm still getting a full days use out of the phone.
If someone could suggest what scheduler I should use (instead of this mod) then I'd gladly try RC's suggestion and see if he is right as well.
