On my speed test app.. I get like 500kb down and 1000up
But my browsing speed is still very zippy..
Before I flashed my radio the data speed test was 3000kb down but the web browsing still feels the same...
Does this data speed test really reflect what's going on??
I think yes and no. Your data speeds depend on traffic volume as well as what your running. Sometimes the speed test puts you on a server not in your area. Hope this helps
I think it really depends on the area your in doing the test and time of day . For the most part after rooting and flashing the kingdom rom 0.1 I noticed data wasn't as fast on speedtest like it was before the ota update from att

I have an Inspire that is rooted, and after 5 different Roms for1 day each, I have settled into the revolution ROM and it really works great.I have my unlimited plan4G (most of the time I think)and I have my tendering. My question is when running the "sweetest.com" application I get 331 down and 783 up inthe evening and 2592 down and 1447 up in the morning until about noon,is this network congestion? Is there a different radio mod or flash or something that software locks the radio in HSUDA mode or whatever is making it that fast?? If anyone knows of a setting or .apk that addresses this or a setting possibly I would appreciate it,or an explanation if its not a tweakable thing might save hours of obsessing over trying to fix it.Thanks, Vegas

Yeah, the slow speeds at times are due to all the iphones tying up the network.

Funny, but I notice my speeds do the same. But most of the time it's relatively good.
I definitely think this is network congestion. My best speeds are late at night (usually about 2.5 down/1.5 up). Most of the time my upload stays about the same (between 900k and 1.5mb), but my download goes anywhere from 400k to 2.5mb..or lower
So 2.5 down is the fastest I can expect and the radio with the Revolution ROM is the Best one I could be using? I have heard 4G was capable of 6mbps,No..Anyone?? Is it gonna get better in phases, anyone know the truth?Vegas
So last night I was showing a buddy some stuff on my phone and I decided to run a speed test from the speed test app. I hit the button and the tiny little needle instantly jumps to 5 mbps and moves slightly higher to 5.15 mbps. Then my upload speed jumps to 2.5 and stays there. Why the sudden increase of speeds around my area? I generally get 1.5 download and .35 upload. This was all through my Inspire 4g rooted with Revolution 2.3.2 ROM and updated radio.
I will also add that I live in an area that has recently just got 3g as well. These are nearly as fast as my home internet, lol.
Move on nothing to see here

You're lucky, thats why lol
The other day, mine jumped from ~1.8 down and .80 up, to 3.8 down and 1.2 up. Seems as if at&t is up to something. Some people say that by the 31st of this month, most of the backhaul enhancement will be done.
I have been back on GingerREMIX for about the last week and have noticed an issue with speeds over 3G / 4G / WIFI. I listen to Tune-In just about 24/7 and with BAMF 1.6.3 (Froyo), it never buffered. It seems with the Gingerbread leak that we have, it buffers over 3G, 4G and WIFI every 20 minutes or so.
So I have put together a little test sample of data speeds over 3G and 4G (I am working on WIFI results as well). The tests were performed on two different days at roughly the same time as well as in the same location to try to capture a fair sample. I will also note that absolutely no apps except for the speed test app were installed over the base ROM when testing.
I uploaded all of my results to google docs to make it easy for everyone to see.

Just something to think about before making the leap to alpha GB.
Disclaimer: In no way does this reflect on the quality of the BAMF ROM(s) as I have experienced the same type of issues on other GB based ROMs. It more or less comes down to the alpha build of GB that we have.
Interesting. Thanks for the "side-by-side" comparison.
Please don't tell me you used speedtest.net mobile app to get these results.
If you did, you should read the other 100 topics about Speedtest app not working on GB, you will in fact get normal speeds with GB just need to use a different speed test.
I really think that the leaked radio has more issues than just the possible bricking. When on CM7 GB, I get normal download speeds in the 12-20 mbps range, same with any froyo rom, however, when on any of the roms that need the leaked GB radio to work, I get horrible speeds. Netbook tethered to phone, Pandora/slacker streaming, YouTube streaming both normal and HQ videos. There is a definite and significant drop in download speeds.

Interesting, just when I used the leaked GB radio on Das BAMF everything ran fine with plenty of speed. Speedtest (Not the app) showed normal speeds and I never had a problem with downloading/streaming anything even the MR1 PG05IMG.zip to send me back to froyo downloaded in a minute or two (400mb file).
Also, Pandora didn't work on GB so I don't know where you got that from.
The 1.5.6 version of Pandora ran well, I couldn't get 1.5.7 to work though.

Hey what are some of the speeds people are getting with the Bell network (canadian) for their 1s....
I can only seem to get around 5 - 7mbps down max... anybody getting double digits?
also can you post your rom and radio specifications as well...
I'm with Bell as well in Toronto and my max download speed ever was 12MB/s and that was a peak realistically I only see about 4-8ish. I have a feeling though I'm being throttled. I found my data increassed slightly by removing the bell proxy in my APN. Would you be able to send me a screenshot of your APN so I can make sure mine is rightish.
I am running radio 1.06s with team venom Rom. I recently did an experiment with all the radios to see which one have me the best data and 1.06s was the most consistent. On a side note I couldn't believe how much data speed test can use. I used 450mB just on speed test

hmm ya im getting an average of between 4 - 8 as well... :S which makes no sense cuz this phone is able to handle so much more ...
the APN im using is the stock APN for bell which comes with Viper 1.2 rom... im currently using the 1.06 es radio... seems to be giving good signals but still bad download rate... ill try to upgrade to the new one and see what happens....
hmm also... using 450MB on a speed test is definitely not possible :S... u might have something else running in the background thats sucking it up...
I meant 450mb cumulative after testing multiple radios

i just upgraded to the Verizon update so my phone is stock with root. Ive noticed that wifi seems to perform very bad. My home internet connection is 5 megs up and 30 megs down, however while doing speed tests, i see speeds that bounce between 5 megs down to 17 megs down... but it never maxes out my internet connection like my iphone 4s. is this a rom issues? or hardware limitation? i think on 1 test only i saw it hit the full 30 megs down.... but it is very inconsistent on holding any speed...
next question, is i love Miui.. and i think i found a good rom on here. however there are elements from touchwiz that i would love to keep on miui like the calendar, calculator and music player(because of miui refusal to support playlists). Anyone know of a way to load these apps? is there a package available? Ive done a search with no luck... is it possible to load a deodexed rom and save the apps and restore them on miui? any one with any luck in this area let me know...

How are your measuring the speed? Try going to speakeasy.net/speedtest from your stock browser, you have to be flash enabled for that to work. The apps are horribly inaccurate to measure the internet speed, specially if you have a lot going on the background.
If you are using speedtest app , make sure you are on max performance setting and now max visual setting.
Remember that android is the master of all trades, it multifunctions. iphones focuses all its resources on the app you are running up front. And yes, internet speed, although strictly speaking has to do with the line and modem quality, a processor has to process the data, if something is keeping it busy, it will show a slower speed.
