I started a new AT&T account on around Aug 12th or so. For the 1st time in my life they didn't ask me for a deposit. They sent me 2 refurb phones the next day. I had the phones in hand & using them My wife & I decided on Aug 20th we wanted to port our Straight Talk numbers over. I called the Porting department & they had to send new Sim cards because AT&T & ST are so intertwined. They said my 1st bill might double because the system may think I reordered again, but it would go away. I made my first months payment on 8-30. I tried tonight to buy the Note 3 online. The system said I have this past due amount and it has to be taken care of first. I got online chat for billing help. The lady said tonight said they added a $445 deposit on my acct. She said the payment I made went on the deposit & not on the bill. She even said that I called in on 8-20 asking for the deposit to be waived. I told her no that I called that day to port our two numbers. I told her I haven't heard of a deposit till she told me.
I'm going to call in tomorrow during regular business hours to see what can be done. Has anyone else ever had any issues like this?
It sounds weird, because a deposit usually must be paid before service even starts, not at first billing. Kinda defeats the purpose of a deposit. I would ask them what day the deposit amount was assessed to the account. If it was added the day you inquired about porting, inquire why it was added a week post service, and how service was even started without it.
I have been with AT&T for 11 years, and never have any billing issues. In fact, they always waive my upgrade fees.
Have had ATT for 2 years and if I customer service is what I paid for it has been worth it.I always get what I want when I call them.have had 4 pushed upgrades and never had to b nasty to get them.

Update: I got a hold of a guy named Rusty with AT&T today. He was super. My credit was good enough to get up to 3 lines without a deposit. When we ported our 2 ST numbers over; the AT&T system saw 4 numbers which automatically kicked in a $445 deposit. Rusty said it should be remedied by Monday. He's going to check it Mon morning & call me back. He asked me if I was satisfied with today's service & I said I give it an A+
I agree. I've had nothing but good things to say about Att. Always call those online people are kinda slow at helping.

Good to hear you got it all fixed up.
i think att is wonderful. My phone had been stolen last thursday and i called in to get my phone blacklisted. The CSR offered to give me an override upgrade even when I wasnt eligible for one. Now that is customer service!
Once per month. When I pay the bill.
You should be good. I've had AT&T for 17yrs. (AT&T>Cingular>AT&T) I've never really been disappointed w/them.
Conversations & dialogue have gotten a little "interesting" on occasion with my grandfathered unlimited data, but all ended well.
I personally think their customer service is pretty d*mn good!! :good:
Coming from Sprint and Verizon ATT is making me feel like a god. Lol. Sounds more like an error on ATT in your situation. Or a big mistake.

Att and verizon know they can screw any and all of their consumers. why cause they know sprint and tmo has horrendous 4g lte coverage and they are like almost taunting you to switch to sprint and tmo cause they know you will be crawling back for their lte coverage.
All I can say is Att has been great to me. A rep told me if you pay your bill on time every month they consider you a premium customer and they will go out their way to help you. I pay my bill on the 5 of the month although its done on the 22nd. This has gotten me early upgrades big credits to my accounts and free stuff.

We were part of the 1,000 customers a week they dropped for 12 weeks back in 2007. They just dropped us after 6 years of being loyal customers. No notice, no warning, nothing. Just couldn't use our phones one day. Got a letter post marked a month later saying they were dropping customers with to many calls with complaints each month. Funny thing is, we may have called twice a year at most and that was only to pay the bill if me or my wife couldn't get online to pay the bill. We gave up and went to T-Mobile after 2 days of getting nowhere with them. They also had the nerve to charge us an etf for both lines plus an additional $100 per line for a texting plan we never had and tried to take it oyt of our bank account. My wife got the bank involved and fought it so they sent us a huge final bill. My wife told them to shove it. Haven't heard from them since.

To be fair, Sprint's Customer Service has had a complete 180 since they. It is mostly due to cases like this and the horrible reputation they got that led to a mass exodus of customers.
I got an Evo on launch day (June 2010) and my experience with Sprint CS was always really good. If it hadn't been for their ****ty data speeds and stalled WiMax rollout, I would probably still be with them.
My dad is letting me switch to sprint, I hate att for buying T-Mobile us.the customers are suffering for att's mistakes

Still would not switch to Sprint after what they did to us. Yes I tend to hold a grudge.
I'll be headed for VZW, my experiences with AT&T in all their incarnations of the name, haven't been good over a 40+ year time period.
Sprint is too expensive for what I want/need.
I'll see what AT&T does for a month or two but I'm off to VZW as soon as AT&T irritates me and experience tells me that'll be the very first time I call CS and get their standard "We don't care, we don't have to care, we're the phone company!"

So here's the deal my account information got stolen from ausurion 2 times already within this last year. The first time it was used to get a mytouch 4g and now a G2x. I had the phone not even a month and a claim was opened on the 23rd and they recieved the phone the 24th.
I called ausurion and they gave me a tracking number and its says the phone was delivered to Brooklyn NY, i live in Delaware. I'm very furious that my info got stolen so i called T-Mobile and asked if they can let me out of contract of course they said no and they said that's its not there fault.
This is identity theft and I'm letting you guys know be careful with your info with ausurion. I don't know what to do. Anybody have any advice? I want to leave T-Mobile because i no longer feel safe. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yea I told them that and they said that people get there phone sent to different address all the time. I know its BS.
what's also BS is that I told them that I don't trust them with my information, so I asked if they can terminate my contract without me paying the termination fee and they said no, because they have nothing to do with it, the Rep said asurion is 100% liable.

he is right, asurion is the one you should be going after, they are the ones completely liable for this situation... if you can prove all that you are claiming then it should not be that hard to push them around or if at worse you could take them to court... better yet if you can find other people who have had a similar problem to you then you could make a big case out of it and get them in a lot of trouble, especially if there is identity theft involved

I told them it wasn't me, and they wouldn't tell me where it was sent due to "security" purposes despite it being MY account and information they used to get it. All they would tell me was it was not sent in to the state of Texas which is where I live. There are bad apples in every bunch. I know that Asurion will be eager to fix any real issues. I have contacted the op but have not received any details. I plan on notifying them about potential abuse/theft later today. Without details it is hard to follow up and make the changes nessesary to avoid this in the future. Without details this is just another thread on the internet.
I got a text from T-Mobile asking that I visit some site since I'm an insured customer. Pretty sure I'll just ignore it since I've never had issues in the past.
Oh, and I live at a different address than my bill goes to. I cannot get upgrades sent to my address, but I can get warranty replacements sent here. Seems like if it's a warranty replacement they don't care where it goes. Which is fine in my situation since I live about 1200 miles from where my bills are sent.

no its a text stating that the damaged phone need s to sent in. your thinking of something else.
Asurion handles insurance claims for all of the other carriers too, except for a couple of small ones. If the leak is at Asurion (which honestly, sounds like it is) you're not getting away from anything.
You can only do 2 claims per year with Asurion, warranty exchanges thru T-Mobile are pretty much unlimited speaking from experience.
Will you switch services and what phone will you buy?
Depends on the prepaid prices and if current prices will be honored. If not, back to Virgin Mobile I will go. They're getting some good android phones, hopefully dev support picks up for them.
This depends on whether or not I can back out of my contract without paying. If I can, then I'm off to Verizon. I won't stick with AT&T if I don't have to, and I won't go back to Sprint.
Never had an at&t contract or knew anyone that did. I take it they such, huh?

What GSM carriers besides the two of them exist in North America? I mean, on a nation-wide scale. Because quite frankly, I can't think of a single one besides AT&T & T-Mobile.
If they're the only two nation-wide ones, and AT&T becomes the ONLY nation-wide GSM carrier, doesn't that make it a monopoly?

Yup, that's the idea of it. There has to be competition, or else they can really set the price to whatever they want, blahblahblah.
A while back, ATT nearly was a monopoly, and they were forced to split into many parts and sell those off to increase competition.. Now they are buying everyone back again lol. I used to have Cingular for my mobile service.. then they were bought by ATT about 8-10 years ago. Didn't have a problem with the merge, and my reception actually improved.
I remember having a bad experience with ATT when I moved and transferred my DSL service to my new apt. The service really sucked (it was too far from the connection office), and I wanted to cancel, but was told I still had 3 months left on the old contract. So I let the 3 months go by so I didn't have to pay an ETF.. after that, I called to cancel, and now, they said when I moved, I entered into a new yearly contract at the new address, and would be charged a $250 ETF. I did no such thing, and didn't sign any new contract. It was BS, and took over a month to get rid of them.
Was so pissed off I switched to Sprint later that year, and haven't had any ATT services for about 5 years. I'm happy with T-mo, and their pre-paid $50/month plan is pretty nice. I hope ATT doesn't change that, otherwise I'll be switching carriers again.
Homestly tmobile sucks, especially their customee service..they do provide the weakest lineup compare to other carriers..they dont have roll over minutes or one fav person as your favorite to use unlimites minutes..so for a person who talks a lot and has 1500 minutes still doesnt cut it!!

+1 My wife and I have had T-Mobile for about 10 yrs now and have always been happy. I have 4 lines (2 with 3000 minutes + unlimited text/data and 2 with 600 minutes and 300 texts). I have always been given great service the few times I had to call. They have always given us the new user discount 18-19 months into the contract for cheaper upgrades too. My work cell used to be AT&T, but then changed over to Verizon and I found both of them to be lacking in every way. I always check the Costco phone kiosk for deals. picked up a BB pearl the week it hit for $29, a Samsung Highlight the week it hit for free, and my SGS4G for $50 bucks back in February when it came out for allowing them to change my number on the renewed plan... lol. I missed the MT4g for a penny (yeah, $0.01) by a week for the wife, but still only paid $150 for it.
I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess that depends on what AT&T does with this side of their house. Might swing a GS2 in with a change over if/when it happens. All I know is T-Mobile has always been great to us and we have stayed b/c of that and they have the best plans/pricing out there.

I've never received a message like that. I signed my agreement and still have unlimited data. Hmm....

Um, yeah right. Mine gets delivered tomorrow, and either I'll be rocking unlimited like it said in my renewed contract or I'll be rocking a phone on another carrier.

I got something similar
I received a similar notice with one of my pre-orders placed on 6/12. The email from Verizon stated "We have completed your equipment order. Your current Unlimited Data package is no longer available. We have selected the 2 GB Data package for you. You will not be able to go back to your current Unlimited Data Package"
Called them and the rep had to submit a "inactive price request" form. Hopefully I hear back from them soon.
Xda server would meltdown over the posts here if others were getting that message. I love how BGR just runs the story without checking with Verizon or getting another person to confirm. Just uses 1 persons tip as fact.

Mine will be here tomorrow too and I even have a rep calling me to make sure I have no issues with my current unlimited data plan.
If I lose unlimited...all hell will indeed break loose.
Most important thing to realize is people have most likely received this notification if they ordered after 6/28/12.
I got mine today... I still have unlimited.
I mean, I even logged into My Verizon and it shows unlimited. No idea what the deal is here. I pre-ordered mine in store and the reps confirmed with me that I would keep my unlimited data.
This "news" story seems hokey.

Sure Verizon might take away your unlimited data but it's not like they didnt compensate you for it... they gave you a locked boot loader for [email protected]!!
BGR = Bull**** Generated Regularly
I kept my unlimited data, so I'm sure others are too.
Response from VZW when I asked.
I just asked them via the chat on their site, I was told that I get to keep unlimited, but only because I purchased it unsubsidized. Seeing how I use 10gb or so a month, I guess I'll keep buying them unsubsidized since it saves a huge amount of money per month to do so.
Doesn't look good for guys signing a new contract, though.
Please wait for a Chat Representative to respond.
Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless. My name is Gary, how may I assist you?
Gary: Hi Nicholas
Nicholas: Hello, I just purchased a Galaxy S3 (scheduled to be delivered on the 11th). It is unsibsidized, so I paid $650 so I could keep my unlimited data.
Gary: no problem
Nicholas: I'm readin gthat customers are getting notices that they are losing their unlimited data when activating their S3s, will I be forced off my unlimited plan?
Nicholas: Or do I get to keep it, which is the whole reason for ordering the phone at full price.
Gary: no if you had used the subsidized price, then yes, otherwise the unlimited data plan is still yours...
Nicholas: Excellent. Thank you for your help tonight.

Has anyone who signed a new 2 year contract activated yet? Results?
i preordered on 6/6, renewed a 2yr contract, recieved my phone today, and kept unlimited data
When I pre-ordered my GS3 the customer service rep told me I would still be able to keep my unlimited data plan however if any bills are paid late or if the credit card wont go through on the order or if they have any other problems with my account prior to shipment of the phone, then the phone order will be canceled and I may not be able to keep the unlimited data. My gut tells me the person in the article had a billing issue and Verizon used that as an opportunity to yank the unlimited data.
E36eury is correct.

Same here
This is totally false. They reposted a blog from BGR, which I commented on (VERY FIRST COMMENT), explaining that it was false. Pathetic when this kind of crap becomes "news"
so we can get an erroneous story of verizon sucking on yahoo news but not an actual story about how they locked the bootloader? o_0
When I ordered mine i asked for a written receipt stating that my unlimited would still be there....big red is getting a bit too big for their britches
I was wondering why my bill was higher this month so I called verizon and to my shock my gs3 was not grandfathered into unlimited plan. The verizon guy guaranteed us unlimited data which is why we continued with them. I didnt catch last month's bill because it was the same price but said 2gb and now they're saying too late screw u. Anybody else have this problem?

when did you buy your phone, and did you start a new contract for it?
Ordered it the day before the cutoff date. Dont remember exactly at the moment but know for sure it was one day before, think 27th of june. Now they are saying the rep i called to order was probably wrong and that because mine was preordered it didnt count because it was activated in the 9. I received it and activated it on the 9th if July. But already paid for it before that

I'm terrible at explaining this sorry. I'll put more details. My gf ordered a iphone 4 and i preordered a gs3 day before cutoff date of unlimited data. The at verizon that we called guaranteed us unlimited data. She still has unlimited and i don't. Rep i just talked to said it had to be activated on sept. 8 but i received mine on sept. 9. I told her ppl on forums preordered theirs and got unlimited still and she said those ppl on forums lied. Payed last months bill without noticing mine said 2 gb data cuz it was same price. Now they said i cant do anything.

People on the forums didn't seem to "lie" - many were sharing stories on what worked/what didn't work to keep unlimited during the preorder wait for deliveries.
I kept my unlimited from preordering two phones for upgrading our lines, as an example.
But, we activated very soon after delivery months ago. Your preordered Galaxy S III arrived in early September?

I kept pushing but they said there is no more unlimited so changing back is impossible. I even told them before i hung up that i wud cancel it. She just said well you'll have to pay the early termination fees. Both of these ladies were kinda rude too

Keep escalating it , if anything find the executive customer support line and call that number. An executive email bomb could also work (per the Consumerist website).
thanks will do that Tiburon. Just wanted to see if what they were telling me were true or not

You seemed to mention they told you activating this late was the primary issue with regaining unlimited right now.
Do you know why your phone arrived so late if it was ordered before the activation cutoff?

Thing is the phone wasn't out yet till that date but from everything i was reading ppl preordering cud still keep unlimited plan. Plus verizon guaranteed me that. The main problem is that i paid last month's bill without noticing it said 2gb

I'm not sure what information you were given, but I'm not aware of preorders from June that took until September to finally ship.
See this now-famous Verizon Galaxy S III preorder thread for more details and lots of user stories on when phones shipped.
If you ordered after June 28th, getting the unlimited grandfathering deal is tough.

If you received the phone on sept 9 and activated it then thats pretty late at activating(2 months past the delivery dates for pre orders). The verizon rep i talked to when i preordered it said I should activate it before july 11th to keep my unlimited and thats what I did.
Oh my bad i meant july not sept. It wasnt long it was the day it was supposed to be released.
This is the second month I've had this phone.

Something isn't adding up. If you preordered the phone it should of shown you keeping unlimited data on your receipt. If it does then take it to Verizon. You renewed your contract under the premises of retaining unlimited data. They cannot not honor what you signed a contract for if so it would be null n void and you are free to cancell at anytime without paying a etf. I did this one time when I was younger and Cingular raised the cost of txt messaging from 10 cents to 25 cents per message.

Exactly, because that^^ is what was on mine when going through the preorder process and renewing the plan.
Verizon bastards.
No i did not preorder too late. I made sure of that. I might of made date mistakes posting this but not when i ordered it. The only receipt i received was wen it was shipped in the box. On my gf's iphone 4s it says 29.99 for unlimited on the featues section that i just noticed looking at it now. Mine does not say anything. Our account is on her name if it makes any difference

He pre order the day before the cut off date and the phone arrived july 9th he activated and like many verizon put him in 2gb data plan. Hoping he wont notice.
Many called back and got their unlimited restored.
Call again and check your confirmation emails. It must say somewhere the terms of your contract
Dont thank/like/rep my posts or ill report you.
