Hi
I'm currently using the 8.1 preview and liking it,but my surface was running a bit slow so I thought id do the refresh thing under recovery.
Now I made a recovery USB of 8.0 before I installed 8.1,i also deleted the recovery partition to gain more space,but when I try to refresh my rt.,I get a message "Some files are missing.Your windows installation or recovery media will provide these files.So i inserted the USB id made earlier in this post but it still wouldn't allow me to refresh my surface,any help appreciated guys.
One more thing,how do you turn on location in the pc settings section,i keep trying to slide it to on,but it just stays greyed out,so maps and other apps can't find my location.
I'm guessing its a bug in 8.1 taking into account this is just a preview copy,does anyone else have this problem?.
Any help regarding my 2 issues would be greatly appreciated.
You can't refresh 8.1 using an 8.0 image...

i just buy wp7 yesterday, i was no idea how to sync it to the pc.
i heard that you need zune to sync with it like itunes. i'm installed it once, but it cannot update and say 'connection error, restart software'.
so i reinstalled again, but stuck at 100%.
a lot in the internet say that their os was XP of vista, and no windows 7 (and i'm using w7).
please, share with me how things are working here. thanks
i was able to sync and I have windows 7.
-make sure ZUNE is up to date
-you may get better results using the USB cable that came with the phone
-if you have more than one, try them all.
-you may get better results using the USB ports on the back of the PC

Have ya configured your phone already, a Live account and all that jazz ?
I have Windows 7, so that is not your problem... make sure your Zune is workling properly and if needed download a new version and reinstall it. Syncing Zune and WP7 is a pretty straight forward thing.
i'm already did that, it's just now i am trying to "reinstall" zune because it cannot update my windows phone 7 (version with no copy-cut-paste)
my zune installer is "downloading update at 100%" and stuck, no solution on the internet. some say to go back to xp (LOL)
for sync-ing my wp is no problem because it is straight forward

Like I said, I have Windows 7 x64 and the system runs great and no problems with Zune.
In you Windows try and create a new use with admin rights and try and install Zune in that user area, or use System Restore to roll back to a few days back... telling you to format and reinstall Windows 7 should be a last resort.
What "update" are you trying to install?

nothing, i'm trying to install, but the installer say updating, maybe i got old version package.
new problem here: i'm already download new package for installation, and i stuck at this point "preparing you computer, installing the zune sofware", so i think i have to contact zune for this problem
update: i just got the solution form help forum, apparently he say "just hit spacebar", and it work, feel like slap the software to wake up.
but now the software doesn't installed properly, no shortcut in the desktop

How long have you had that current installation of you Windows 7 ?
It might be a problem with your OS and not Zune... like I said, create a new user with admin right and install from there, Restore System to an older date.
If all fails, might be time for a fresh Windows 7 install.

sorry for not doing that directly, i don't know what happen to me.

Accessories, System Tools and you should have System Restore there. Try and restore to an older point in time, see if that helps.
When all else fails... format c:
system restore didn't have any effect at all. format is the only option left, i give up on this software.
i just don't want to waste anymore time, i'll use wp7 connector for mac instead.

Go to settings - storage - click on top right drop down - USB USB computer connection - make sure MTP is checked

I had a similar issue after rooting. A fresh wipe and rom install fixed the issue. Maybe start there?
I'm sorry. I just realized you might not be rooted. You may also try the factory images...

My laptop has Win8.1U1 and it works fine. It's probably your drivers not registering correctly, download the USB driver off Google's site, remove your current one in Device Manager and install the new one.

Things I can think of
Reinstall Driver
Try another USB cable - sometimes the data pins might be damaged.
Try disabling the Anti Virus
Try another PC

The default mass storage device label shows Unknown instead the device's name (Nexus 5), I'm not facing this issue on my Nexus 4 running 5.1.1 stock so I don't think it's an adb driver issue.
I've tried to update the drivers to the latest on Google page, but no success.
Does anyone knows how to fix it?

it says nexus 5 for me, both previews..
I flashes by file method,bundled wasnt working for me.
Driver version 08/28/2014 11.0.00...
Can you confirm me your driver version, and if you flashed your device with file by file method instead of the bundled batch file.

I have decided this problem thanks next way:
1) I pulled quick settings and the status bar panel from the top down;
2) Then I found "Charging via USB" window (with the letter M) and clicked it on.
3) Then I chose "Using USB" window, and clicked "Transfer files (MTP)".
And after all the computer saw the contents of the phone.

I was using my Honor 6 plus and android fil transfer without any problem for the past month. But suddenly instead of having the all the files stocked in my phone available on the software window, i've an empty window (as shown in the picture below). With this i can transfer my files from my computer but i can't choose were to put them, and the most problematic is i can't transfer files from my phone (cause i can't access any).
I checked most of the developper options (the mtp is enable).
This issue starts after update to emui 4.0. Befor that i rooted my phone using kingroot.
The strange thing is when i try with my girlfriends phone (honor 5c emui 4.0) android file transfer work properly.
Dose someone have an idea ?

I can't see a picture. Android file transfer? You're using a Mac then? Did you select files from the notification panel after connecting USB?

I'm not able to publish external as i'm new to this forum. Yes i'm using à mac. Yes i selected file from the notification panel. The Android file transfert soft show à blank window. I checked all the program optionand i can just create a new folder and that's it !
Do you have same issue on a Windows computer? Reinstall Android file transfer.

Looking like the phones fault. Try on Windows. Would not be cool to do a reset cos of USB connection problems

Have you tried a factory reset after a nandroid backup?
windows the only solution . MAC sometimes can recognize MTP . . Some times only .

Yes it does. Funny I forgot to mention and I use it always. Root required btw. Never liked MTP mode.

It sometimes screws up my SD card tho when it doesn't disconnect properly and you need to reboot phone to show the changes made. ?

Whenever I click shutdown my pc just restarts instead of shutting down which forces me to switch off the power suppy directly

My pc was running windows 7 and I have formatted my pc but still it didn't work so I also flashed the official windows 10 iso with pen drive-custom install(fresh installation) but still it didn't help
Now I have a running Windows 10 home pc with no old data and no running processes in background (obviously except the system,windows programmes)
Any kind of help will be appreciated

This used to happen to me as well. I don't remember how I fixed it exactly... Have you tried booting up with a different OS entirely? Maybe a linux on pen drive and see if you're getting the same behavior. It could be your motherboard or bios settings??

No i haven't tried booting other os other than windows also I wouldn't want to do that is there any option other than that?
