Here is the deal: Xoom on build JZ054M 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. I live in a 4G LTE area (Verizon phone and jetpack on 4G). My Xoom has a 4G sim card and is suppose to be 4G (Got Xoom new from Verizon). Under settings in Mobile network settings the network Mode is LTE/CDMA. When I boot my Xoom (pwr, volup, voldwn) the lines on the screen say LTE Radio is off. How can I get this radio turned on so I can get 4G LTE? I have called Verizon and they say there is nothing they can do. Help....what under Motorola Field Utils can I change to turn on the LTE Radio?
Specs and things I have tried:
1. I had 4g LTE (Driod 4 and Jetpack both Verizon and connected to 4G) prior to the upgrade to JB 4.1.2
2. Data Enabled is checked and it shows Verizon data Service. The network mode is Preferred network mode: LTE/CDMA
3. The baseband is CDMA_N_03.1A.71P
4. Signal strength is -95dBm 2 asu, Mobile network type is CDMA - EvDo rev. A:6, Mobile network state is connected
5. I have tried toggling the Airplane mode on and off
Downloaded the Verizon 4G data switch and it does not give me the ablitiy to select (nor does it show "CDMA + LTD/EvDo auto")
Now the Xoom keeps saying a SIM card has been added (which it has not--same SIM Card as before in fact I have not removed it in a couple of days) and wants to Activate again. What is going on with my Xoom? Can anyone help me? This is getting to be very frustrating.
On top of all that...my battery drains very quickly and the xoom gets very hot.
it also says this when I power up using the pwr/vol up vol dwn buttons:
powering on bp
cold booting in linux
lte modem is off
reading odm fuse 1
Any help??????

I have similar issue, happened ever since I updated to JB... If someone has anything then I would also be interested.

I don't think the LTE modem being off on boot up means anything as my working one does the same. I lost my LTE when trying to flash a backup from my son's xoom (not LTE) to my spare xoom. I think the giveaway is the baseband. It should have LTE in it. What fixed it for me was starting from scratch flashing from MZ602_HLK75D and letting it update OTA to ICS and then to Jellybean. I got the baseband saying LTE at the ICS flash and let it continue to JB and continued to have the LTE basband and connected to Verizon 4g network. I don't know if you can just flash the baseband radios.
Flashing the radios from imm76l-update-radios.zip with rogue recovery seems to fix the radio problem as well. Make sure you use Rogue Recovery to flash the radios and not TWRP or CWM.

Ever since the 4g outage my thunderbolt is no longer able to connect to a 3g network. Whenever I leave a 4g coverage area it goes immediately to 1x. I've got LTE on/off and have tried both "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto" and "CDMA auto (PRL)" and neither get me connected to 3g.
My Thunderbolt is rooted but is running the stock ROM that came with the original root instructions, not running a custom ROM. I haven't done much if anything to customize it.
Any ideas on how I might be able to fix or troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance.
Michael
It is not your device.
Verizon is still reporting various outages as they are still updating the LTE network.
I have more or less the same issues from time to time since the outage and I can mostly get back to 3G by doing a battery pull when I'm in a known 3G area.
When I'm in a 4G area the only way for my device to revert back to 4G is again to do another battery pull. As I write this my weather widget will not update even as my device shows that I'm in a 4G network. To verify that it wasn't just my device I look at another TBolt here at work and the same is happening to that device.
Hang tight is all I can offer.
did you update your radio? if you're rooted, you may not have gotten the pushed update for TBolts that updates the radio. try flashing the new radio file. 4G works great on my stock roms.
No I haven't flashed anything - where can I get the updated files? Is it a whole new rom or can I just update the files?
BTW pulling the battery seems to have fixed it - now seeing 3g/4g switching. Although the last time I was in my hometown there was 4g here and now there's not. I suppose that's Verizon working on their network.

I had the same problem. 4G would work but in a 3G area I got 1X. So I rebooted the phone and it fixed the problem. Can you try that?
Hi there,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE (signed with Rogers) and I'm trying to figure out how to disable 4G on my phone and only use 3G. I've looked through some threads talking about changing the "Network mode" in the "Mobile network settings," but I haven't had any luck with that.
GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode)
GSM/HSPA (Auto Mode)
GSM Only
HSPA Only
Right now, I'm using GSM/HSPA (Auto Mode) but it still says I'm connected to 4G in the status bar. In GSM Only, it connects to the edge network (E) and in HSPA only, it will connect to 4G network. Anyone have any ideas of how to connect using 3G?
Also, I've noticed in my APN settings, I'm using the "ltemobile.apn" (the only APN setting I have listed). I don't have a LTE plan, so should this be the APN that I should be using? Since I'm not on a LTE plan, would I be charged more for using the "ltemobile.apn" APN?
Thanks
4g is 3g/HSPA. If you were able to get LTE, the 4g icon would change (as long as you aren't on a ROM that doesn't have LTE icons)
Is there any way to turn off 4G/LTE completely and just use 3G to conserve battery life? I don't own a Skyrocket but my friend does and has horrible batt life.
On home screen press menu button and go to phone settings
Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Here you can tell it to use edge/3g/lte or edge/3g or just edge or just 3g
Hopfully that is not my ROM that allows me to choose that. Using Sky Ice Cream Sandwich rom
It depends on the ROM. Stock won't do it and a number of custom roms I've used don't do it either, but I have seen some that appear to allow for that functionality. Do some research and find one you like.
"4G" is 3g (well hspa+) which is twice as fast as what 3g speeds were originally at (see 4, iphone) its more of a marketing thing. There won't be a 3g icon showing up with these roms. best bet is to choose gsm/hspa then it won't be looking for LTE.

HSPA is actually 3G. AT&T and Tmobile were calling it 4G because they had to come up with some marketing scheme to compete with WiMaxx and LTE. SO in short, AUTO HSPA... is effectively disabling your 4G.
I am using a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket on the Dirty Unicorn rom and I was wondering how I can force my network to 3G. I have Straight Talk on AT&T and a very good LTE 4G signal but it drains my battery very quickly and I don't really need the speed of LTE and the speed of 3G works fine for the things I do.
I've tried in the Mobile Network settings to switch it to GSM/WCDMA preferred but it always immediately switches back to LTE/GSM/WCDMA mode and connects to LTE. The use only 2G networks option does not work either as it immediately gets turned back off as soon as you turn it on.
Using *#*#4636*#*# to switch the mode to WCDMA preferred or GSM preferred does not work either as it also switches back to LTE immediately after.
Is it possible to force the phone to 3G networks? On my old captivate samsung phone on a 4.2 JB rom, it was doable and it worked on 3G fine (even being a 4G enabled phone).
Here is what I've found works on AT&T but it might not work for you.
Go to mobile network settings and then Network Operators. In the Network Operators screen scan for networks. If two different networks appear select the one on the bottom. Then the 2G only button and other settings will work and stick until you reboot your phone. I have to change this every time I reboot. I hope this helps.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Yes. That worked. Now I just need to figure out how to turn off the hspa so it just uses a 3G connection on WCDMA instead of hspa or hspa+

I have been using this technique every time I reboot. Anyone know how to make this permanent?
Or perhaps automate it using tasker?
Well I got off Wind Mobile because I got a good deal at Mobilicity
$15+20 for premium date
Figured since Mobilicity is now on Rogers towers it's better all around coverage inside GTA, where I am 99% of the time.
So I went to Willmyphonework and
Blue= Best
Green= Ok maybe
Mobilicity
2g (blue check)
3g (green check)
4g (network doesn't support)
Rogers
2g (Blue check)
3g (Blue check)
4g (Blue check)
Both 2g and 3g operate 850mhz 1900mhz
so its curious as to the discrepency
with premium data I should have access to the 'top tier data' and i heard its decent.
1. Problem is that the phone i have is stuck in Roaming mode.. even after I clicked on 3G Mobilicity and the phone accepts it.. then says Mobilicity on the phone itself. just where the signal bars are; roaming
2. I was sent Configuration instructions and can't seem to enter in a pin to do a full instal of APN settings sent by mobilicity.
Cheers
And just for laughs... I put the sim card in my Nexus I-9250 and it seems to be flawless.
AFAIK the Mi4C has band 7 support, but I have been unable to get LTE signal on Canadian carriers Fido or Bell.
I have tried to force "LTE only" through the service menu but that just causes 3G to disconnect.
A manual search under network shows Rogers 4G and Telus 4G networks but will not allow me to connect. Any ideas? :/
I was only able to get LTE on cyanogen mod ROM. When I got back to stock MiUI rom I never got LTE.
