[Q] 3g not working since 4g outage - Thunderbolt General

Ever since the 4g outage my thunderbolt is no longer able to connect to a 3g network. Whenever I leave a 4g coverage area it goes immediately to 1x. I've got LTE on/off and have tried both "CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto" and "CDMA auto (PRL)" and neither get me connected to 3g.
My Thunderbolt is rooted but is running the stock ROM that came with the original root instructions, not running a custom ROM. I haven't done much if anything to customize it.
Any ideas on how I might be able to fix or troubleshoot this?
Thanks in advance.
Michael

It is not your device.
Verizon is still reporting various outages as they are still updating the LTE network.
I have more or less the same issues from time to time since the outage and I can mostly get back to 3G by doing a battery pull when I'm in a known 3G area.
When I'm in a 4G area the only way for my device to revert back to 4G is again to do another battery pull. As I write this my weather widget will not update even as my device shows that I'm in a 4G network. To verify that it wasn't just my device I look at another TBolt here at work and the same is happening to that device.
Hang tight is all I can offer.

did you update your radio? if you're rooted, you may not have gotten the pushed update for TBolts that updates the radio. try flashing the new radio file. 4G works great on my stock roms.

No I haven't flashed anything - where can I get the updated files? Is it a whole new rom or can I just update the files?
BTW pulling the battery seems to have fixed it - now seeing 3g/4g switching. Although the last time I was in my hometown there was 4g here and now there's not. I suppose that's Verizon working on their network.

I had the same problem. 4G would work but in a 3G area I got 1X. So I rebooted the phone and it fixed the problem. Can you try that?

Toggle 4g/3g/2g on the inspire?

Im going to get the inspire this week but i live in latinamerica, in here we dont the so called "4g" damn we barely have 3g so i was thinking this is going to have a HUGE impact in the already crappy battery life , is there a way to turn off the 4g and just saty in 3g/2g without having to install cm7?
The 3G and 4g are the same. AT&T calls it's hspa network 4g, although else ware it's referred to as 3G. In fact, even at&t called it 3G until recently.
To answer your question, you just have 2 settings. Hspa and edge. So it's 3G/4g or 2g.

i remember i read somewhere that the evo 4g had an option for switching between 4g and 3g, the 3g from sprint is different? im confused with this stupid marketing move of the so called 4g, and verizon's 4g is just marketing too?
In latin america im gonna get a 4g icon on my phone when im actually just getting 3g? or the 4g sign will appear when it's suppossed to be displaying the ”h” icon , which is the one im getting with my milestone right now
Yep, the evo has two radios. One is cdma and the other is wimax.
The inspire will also display an H. Actually H+.

If you want to just stick to 2G, you can download Extended Controls from the market and put a 2G/3G toggle on your homescreen. Sticking to 2G will increase your battery life, too.

no, i dont wanna stick to just 2g, so the radios for 3g and 3g are different? when i get 3.5 g the notification bar is gonna display a "H" or its gonna appear as a "H+"
On The HTC Inspire the H+ icon well display for both 3G and HSPA+. So you will not no when your on HSPA+ unless you go to Settings and click on About Phone and then click on Network, and under Mobile Network Type it will say either: HSPDA (3.5g) or HSPA+ (I'm assuming).
I desperately need a solution to this as well.
At work the 3G signal is very crappy and the constant searching and switching all but kills my battery in less than 8 hours. I also get missed calls.
The custom ROM I had in my previous phone (Tilt 2) had the 3G Toggle and it worked beautifully... my battery lasted for 2 days.
*#*#4636#*#* doesn't make the GSM selection stick.
I tried several apps from the market and they only take me to settings and there is nothing there to change to force the phone into constant Edge.

Try using CM7. It does have the functional use 2G(EDGE) only.

eHRPD disabled?

Has anyone else noticed that after the Verizon LTE outage that CDMA-eHRPD has been disabled and that when we're in 3G we're on EvDo Rev. A?
Does anyone have any information as to why eHRPD was disabled?
Perhaps this could be related to the issues with 4G transition and retention people running CM7 are having.

I manually reenabled it, but it still shows Rev. A as well... Not sure why.

eHRPD is still down, I believe when they restored 4G they stated this, and they stated that 4G to 3G transitions would suffer due to it still being down, I still have it manually disabled so I'm just running on Rev. A

I'm wondering if eHRPD was the cause of this whole issue.
I've been scouring the web trying to find an answer as to why the outage happened in the first place and I am coming up with absolutely nothing. I'm curious to see what happened, why, etc.
This is interesting, and I have also noticed that my phone doesn't automatically go to LTE after entering a 4G area. Gotta put it in flight mode and turn that back off.
Anyone in a NON 4G LTE area have eHRPD back yet? I'm still on 3G EvDo rev a, up until the outage I was always on CDMA- eHRPD.
It kinda sucks because my area is supposed to be coming on line with 4G soon and without eHRPD I cannot look forward to seeing that 4G pop up, since as others have mentioned, the handoff without it is so finicky anyway. If I want to check for 4G I have to manually shut off data and then turn it back on.
Theirs no 4G where I Live and Now im on EvDo rev.A

eHRPD was working as of yesterday morning in Kenosha, Wisconsin I'm in Chicago until tonight but will check when I get back.

i'm on Rev. A right now in CT...
Okay thanks guys. Just for clarification: Before the outage, like myself, you were all on eHRPD?
Thanks again! It helps knowing what others are experiencing.
I have rev a in western ny but I can still talk and surf simultaneously
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
yeah I can still talk and surf at the same time too. From what I've read that feature is not affected by whether we are on rev a or ehrpd.
The oddest thing for me has been that since the outage and being on rev a, GPS works flawlessly. Used to take me forever to get a lock, now it's just seconds.
Pomona, NY. Was on eHRPD before, on RevA now and can also run a speedtest while using the phone. Although my speed on eHRPD used to be around 2mb down and on RevA I only get 600k down.
Was always on eHRPD before the outage, but now on RevA. I never did the manual switch to RevA when we were all on 1x. Statesboro, GA
No 4G here in PA yet but phone was always on eHRPD. Now it is on EvDO rev A and it still has Internet connectivity while in a phone call.

I pretty much expected this, but it was worth a shot. If you get any more info please post, thanks
3G EHRPD
I too was one eHRPD before the 4G outage, and now all I get is EVDO rev A
it's not your phone the eHRPD network still seems to be disabled and hence the handoff between 3G and 4G is currently fairly bad, I live about 5 miles from LTE so I experience the handoff quite frequently.

[Q] Locking Phone to WCDMA

I am having an issue locking the phone to WCDMA. I live an area where the EDGE signal is stronger and it constantly drops 3G. After rooting the phone, I locked it into WCDMA and it would stick all the time, even dropping all signal when I moved into an area with only GSM coverage. However, somewhere along the line, I've lost the abillity to lock it in. I have tried going into the Mobile Networks settings and selecting WCDMA Only and also doing the *#*#4636#*#* and neither one will lock it into WCDMA. Anyone else having this issue or know of a workaround for this?
If ur in a edge based area where 3g is minimal, then setting to wcdma is the worst way to go. Wcdma will lock u into 3g/4g signals ONLY! So if your in edge area only, wcdma will not give u data or signal due to the fact the phone is searching for 3g/4g signals only. And GSM or cdma is a different ball park. Set to wcdma preferred and let it pick up what it can. If a 3g or "4g" signal is avaliable,it will automatically detect it and connect.

Its not that I don't have 3G in my area, its just that it only gives me 3 bars as opposed to EDGE which will give me full signal. When it's set on wcdma preferred, it will connect to 3G and after a few minutes switch over to EDGE. With my Captivate and the Inspire when I first got it and before I rooted it, I was able to lock it into only 3G. Somehow after flashing basically every rom in this forum, I can't get that setting to stick anymore.
Ok then flash the ruu of the rooted stock inspire. It is a pd98img.zip u can load and flash via bootloader. It will stay s-off and will flash updated radio and patches. Get your data fixed and GPS and then flash a rom afterwards. Attn1 has it posted in the development.

Same issue here, I called AT&T and they said it's because the cell tower closest to my office is old and supports Edge only so my phone keeps attaching to that tower even though there are other towers in range (that will give me 3 bars of 3G) which are newer.
With the stock rom, even going into the testing menu and setting "WCDMA only", it kept me on the Edge network. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM (Android Revolution) and at first it was great. At the office I could force "WCDMA only" at my desk, when I went into the middle of the building or whatever I would just have no signal (which I was ok with).
Now with the newer versions of the ROM I could no longer force "WCDMA only"... And the OP basically ignores my questions when I ask. Something that worked fine, I flashed a new version of the ROM and it stopped working...doesn't take a genius to figure out it's probably something he changed in his ROM... Not to sound unappreciative of the developers here...they do great work. Just frustrating... >_<

[Q] Any one having problem with 4G after using LeeDroid

My phone is not showing 4G or H after flashing LeeDroid. It's always connected to 3G, even in places I used to get 4G. I am not sure if it has anything to do with LeeDroid but I had flashed it back to stock and 4G came up fine. Then I flashed LeeDroid again and it's back on 3G.
Any solution? or LeeDroid would show 3G even if the phone is connected to 4G?
I have toggled network (GSM only and Auto). Turned Mobile network off and on multiple times.
Using a Sensation 4G (and 4G Simcard)
I had this same problem. Did you try flashing the new kernal? worked for me.
Edit: I've attached the kernal in case you haven't flashed it

well since these roms are not based of tmo 4g stock rom, they're gonna show you are connected to 3g. IF you are actually in an area of "4g" then the H will show. so im guessing you never really had "4g" before?
also, i too do have leedroid and it sits on 3g, but when i load a page or do anything thats pulling data (netflix for ex) then the H shows and stays up there.
and my H speeds are consistent to what my "4g" speeds used to be
i would try and do a speed test and just make sure
Hi, I put in leedroid on my sensation and did the mistake of letting my battery depleting, now it won't boot up , wondering if it's the rom or my batteries dead

[Q] Disable/Turn off LTE Radio

Hi,
I have At&t one x rooted with S-OFF and unlocked bootloader. Im on the latst hboot. Currently I am using CM10. I have been looking into xda-forums and all over the internet to somehow turn off LTE completely but was unable to get a complete answer. The reason I want to turn it off is it consumes alot of my battery and I just dont want to use it as 3G or H+ is good enough for me.
I have tried all kinds of methods i.e. new apn settings, changing the data from *#*#4636#*#*, changing it from within the phone. Every time it shifts to H+ for 3-5 minutes and then I completely lose data and network connection. If I select GSM/WCDMA Auto then it skips 3g or H+ and goes to Edge.
I saw people talking about 'rogers patch' or editing build.prop to disable LTE radio but was unable to find proper steps to do so. Can anyone list out the steps or guide me to turn off LTE Radio. Thanks in advance.
Any suggestions?
If you are on CM10.1, go to Settings=>Wireless &Networks->More...->Mobile networks->Network Mode and select the one w/o LTE. If you're going to edge, it might indicate that you don't have good 3g service or good coverage in your area? Alternatively, there is a LTE toggle in the quick settings panel, although I'm not sure if CM10 has it.
Hope this helps.

I have tried this and yes it it goes to edge from H+ after a few minutes. I am pretty sure that my area has a very good 3G or H+ network cause my friend has a nexus 4 and H+ works perfectly on her phone and that too in my house.
What APN are you using? If you're using ATT LTE (pta), try wap.cingular or vice versa.
I have both APN settings and both have the same exact problem.
