[Q] Locking Phone to WCDMA - HTC Inspire 4G

I am having an issue locking the phone to WCDMA. I live an area where the EDGE signal is stronger and it constantly drops 3G. After rooting the phone, I locked it into WCDMA and it would stick all the time, even dropping all signal when I moved into an area with only GSM coverage. However, somewhere along the line, I've lost the abillity to lock it in. I have tried going into the Mobile Networks settings and selecting WCDMA Only and also doing the *#*#4636#*#* and neither one will lock it into WCDMA. Anyone else having this issue or know of a workaround for this?

If ur in a edge based area where 3g is minimal, then setting to wcdma is the worst way to go. Wcdma will lock u into 3g/4g signals ONLY! So if your in edge area only, wcdma will not give u data or signal due to the fact the phone is searching for 3g/4g signals only. And GSM or cdma is a different ball park. Set to wcdma preferred and let it pick up what it can. If a 3g or "4g" signal is avaliable,it will automatically detect it and connect.

Its not that I don't have 3G in my area, its just that it only gives me 3 bars as opposed to EDGE which will give me full signal. When it's set on wcdma preferred, it will connect to 3G and after a few minutes switch over to EDGE. With my Captivate and the Inspire when I first got it and before I rooted it, I was able to lock it into only 3G. Somehow after flashing basically every rom in this forum, I can't get that setting to stick anymore.

Ok then flash the ruu of the rooted stock inspire. It is a pd98img.zip u can load and flash via bootloader. It will stay s-off and will flash updated radio and patches. Get your data fixed and GPS and then flash a rom afterwards. Attn1 has it posted in the development.

Same issue here, I called AT&T and they said it's because the cell tower closest to my office is old and supports Edge only so my phone keeps attaching to that tower even though there are other towers in range (that will give me 3 bars of 3G) which are newer.
With the stock rom, even going into the testing menu and setting "WCDMA only", it kept me on the Edge network. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM (Android Revolution) and at first it was great. At the office I could force "WCDMA only" at my desk, when I went into the middle of the building or whatever I would just have no signal (which I was ok with).
Now with the newer versions of the ROM I could no longer force "WCDMA only"... And the OP basically ignores my questions when I ask. Something that worked fine, I flashed a new version of the ROM and it stopped working...doesn't take a genius to figure out it's probably something he changed in his ROM... Not to sound unappreciative of the developers here...they do great work. Just frustrating... >_<

Is there a way to force the Inspire to use 1900 instead of 850?

On my Captivate, I could customize the radio to remove and add bands. Is there a way to do this on the Inspire? I live in an area where we have so many towers that even though I'm considered in the "best" coverage zone, my phone rapidly hops towers. Setting my Captivate to use the 1900 band only eliminated this issue entirely.
I may have to return the phone if I can't do this because I constantly drop calls and data. The worst is when I am on a phone call - it will go from HSPA to EDGE and then the data connection icon disappears entirely until I get off the phone and/or the call drops - my Captivate did this as well until I set it as 1900 only.
I think one of the custom roms had this option, just can't remember which one. I know one of the desire based roms had a selection setting to force it to one or the other or to set it to automatic.

I would be extremely interested in this. I am considering making a post in development about it because seriously, I am sick of trying to make a call and it fails because there is no signal, then I wait 30 seconds and I have full signal, get on the call, and it drops out.
This would be sweet to have, my phone is constantly doing the dame thing.

Honestly, its a trade off - on my Captivate, I have to lock it as WCDMA 1900 - which means that when I drive somewhere that DOESN'T have 1900 (pretty rare in Colorado) AND HSDPA or 3G, I can't make a call but switching the band takes all of 5 seconds. I can tell you that 1900 here at home though locks and doesn't let go whereas 850 does. My SIM is currently in my Captivate because I'm going to call them and try to make a case for a microcell again.
On your phone, dial *#*#4636#*#* ...then select "Phone Information"
In this menu, you can change and set several things, including which band you use. This is on EVERY android phone, regardless of the ROM. You change these settings at your own risk.

Don't return it cause of that..! I've already got the 1900/850(wcdma/gsm) toggle in my sense rom, I just haven't included it yet cause I'm working on a 3g/edge toggle as well, and wanted to have both together, but since people want that wcdma/gsm toggle now ill finish it up 100% this weekend hopefully, update my rom with it and post just that by itself so people on other roms can use it as well.
850MHz has WCDMA as well... Setting it to WCDMA/GSM is irrelevant, as you can be on 850 and still on WCDMA.
You have to be able to specify the 1900MHz or 850MHz bands themselves if that is all you want; rather than the auto-switching the phones are supposed to do.

That is exactly what I want. I want to force the 1900 band only. On my Captivate, the only way to do this was to force WCDMA 1900 OR GSM 1900, there was no way to have GSM AND WCDMA 1900 because of how Samsung set up the frequency manager.
I'll try the *#*#4636#*#* mentioned earlier.
The phone doesn't respond to anything I set in *#*#4636#*#* - it automatically reverts back to HSDPA.
I also figured out my problem. Using OpenSignal, I did a tower map. As I thought, I have too many towers. There is one tower that is literally at the top of my block that gives me the worst signal and there are two other towers it connects to - one of them is about 4 blocks away from the other tower and gives me an okay signal and the other one is about a mile away and that gives me the best signal but it doesn't stay locked to any specific tower. Even sitting in the exact same spot, it keeps jumping around.
Oh and you can only select "USA bands", not individual bands from that menu as well
I can only use edge(gsm) 850 band in my office, rest of them don't work.
I used to select it very easily on my captivate using the *#2263#, but there is no such thing on Inspire 4G. Is there anyway to do the same on Inspire 4g??

On inspire *#2263# doesn't work. I tried *#*#4636#*#* as well. If i try to change bands it again defaults back to WCDMA. I can never switch to GSM bands.
If you live in a major area then its not uncommon to have up to 12 monitored cell sites capable of serving your phone.
I have both bands as well, and here is some info that may be of interest:
In areas that have both, there is a rather seemingly obscure pecking order:
Havoc is caused due to this:
Phone has every band available to it. Great! or, not really.
Here is the election process:
Tower sends out its info on the 850 wcdma carrier announcing as primary.
Tower sends out its SAME info on the 1900 wcdma carrier as secondary.
GSM primary is 1900 for association, 850 for data / voice with roll back to 1900.
The phone sends a limited amount of data to the towers when it hooks up, and in this data is the list of "Ranked" cell site ID's. (WCDMA ONLY, forget GSM for now)
The tower then is aware of what other sites can serve you should it become to busy. Using this and various factors, it will decide to either keep you on sector X primary, bump you to secondary carrier, or dump you completely. If it dumps you completely it is a forced hand off and not a graceful one, and you drop signal completely momentarily and then gain it back, but connect to a different cell id. However, that NEW cell ID only hears you at -104, useable but weak, and has 300 other phones it hears at -80 or better.. It has to pick some one to drop, and it picks you. Start the cycle all over again.
Disabling the 850 band stops this, because 1900 goes far shorter of a range and has far less people using it typically.. therefore the stronger site doesnt drop you because your phone reports no where to go. It also (in the case of the captivate) does not respond to requests to switch to GSM, as it will report no gsm availability when in forced wcdma mode.
Fundamentally, this is a misconfiguration on AT&T's part, since this little scenario shouldnt happen with proper sector alignment and tilting.
You did mention that you are in colorado, and AT&T has absolutely NO idea how to deal with radio towers and mountains. They seem to forget that not the entire world is flat.
If it is an option, I'd recommend a switch to Verizon, as it is unlikely this particular problem will ever go away.
Also, as to a Micro-Cell, know going in that those little buggers get the lowest possible priority.. meaning that if your phone can hear a real tower, its going to use that first. You'll have to fight it to get it on the m-cell.
Also, all Micro-Cell's are WCDMA 850 only, with no GSM or WCDMA 1900.
They also do not use HSPA, but instead use older UMTS technology (Who really cares at this point, if you are in range of a M-Cell you can use wifi.)
Other option: Disable 3G for the area you would use the M-Cell.
GSM shouldnt give the same problem WCDMA gives. The entire election process is completely different, and frankly works better than the WCDMA deployment AT&T used.
EDIT:
Wow sorry I didnt read the dates else I would have known this thread was a corpse. Found it looking for a WCDMA 1900 inspire lock option.

CDMA and HSPA switching

I'm currently running eagles blood 2.3.5 custom rom and my data is wacky. Mostly my data will say 1x which is cdma technology, which I usually get decent speeds with. But now I get H appearing which is HSPA. Is there anyway to keep just the hspa. Apps like Netflix don't work on CDMA and its very annoying. So what's the deal? Is my data wacky or do I need to change my preferred network? It's currently set to WCDMA preferred.

I think you mean GSM, not CDMA.
Go to your Settings, Wireless Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, and change it from GSM/WCDMA to WCDMA only. Now if you are anywhere where there is a 3G/4G signal, you will get it instead of the phone switching to a higher 2G signal automatically. However if you are in a 2G area, you will need to switch back to GSM/WCDMA.
no hes right its cdma technology, i think it might be simple, if u go into ur access point simple is probably checked off u need it to be tmobile and hit search networks even if it says error keep doing it until u get the option to choose tmobile , same thing was happening to me on fauxs rom lol i think verizon uses that too it looks like this rite....1X
Iwent into the access point settings and its checked off with T-Mobile. No dice, still switching back and forth. I also live in an aera that has hspa+. Its weird because on my old mytouch slide it was able to just use the hspa network no problem. With this switching its severely draining my battery. People said they can get 24hrs with there phone on this rom, I got 6 today. Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate it.
UPDATE: Wi-fi calling works fine which is confusing that I'm still getting 1x when my network settings are all set to t-mobile

So i downloaded Elixir and heres the deal:
Eaglesblood:
1X uses CDMA
E uses GSM
H uses HSPA
Stock:
2g uses GSM
4g uses HSDPA
is there anyway to fix the eaglesblood rom so it uses just the 2 like stock does?

HTC one S EDGE speeds

Herro! first time poster, long time lurker! i searched around, and couldn't really find a similar problem.
I got an HTC one S from Fido, unlocked it, and i've been trying to use it on Bell. I tried several different APN's until one finally worked...but only EDGE speeds! It's also draining my battery extremely quickly. also, when i put my bell sim card inside, preferred network mode changes to WCDMA instead of HSPA (like on the fido sim).
why is this happening? i was told a fido phone would work on bell with no problem. why no 4g speeds?
thank you and i appreciate the responses in advance
HSPA uses WCDMA, so that makes no sense... Under preferred network you should have WCDMA only, 2G only, or WCDMA preferred if I recall correctly as I'm not on stock HTC rom atm so can't check. Are you getting an "E" signal indicator or are you just getting a slow connection? What does it say under About phone>Status>Mobile Network Type?
Set it to Auto mode in the network settings.

yeah, all the tech support i've talked to said it makes no sense either . i get the same outcome whether i put it on WCDMA only or GSM/WCDMA auto. when i do the speed test, it always comes out under 1 mb/s. it actually has the 4G symbol up, but the speed isn't there.
mhmm, it switches between UMTS and HSDPA.
If you have UMTS and HSPDA under status its working, and those are also what connection you're really on. If you always have a 4g icon on status bar it seems like your carrier has modded the software like T-Mobile USA does so it always shows 4g no matter what's up in the real world.
Maybe you're not in a good location and that's why you get slow data. Also I have no idea how Canadian carriers work but I'd guess if you're connected to a 850 MHz cell you'll get worse speeds than on a 1700/1900 one. Don't you guys have insane data caps everywhere, perhaps you hit yours when speedtesting?
did you try a new sim from bell

[Q] Disable/Turn off LTE Radio

Hi,
I have At&t one x rooted with S-OFF and unlocked bootloader. Im on the latst hboot. Currently I am using CM10. I have been looking into xda-forums and all over the internet to somehow turn off LTE completely but was unable to get a complete answer. The reason I want to turn it off is it consumes alot of my battery and I just dont want to use it as 3G or H+ is good enough for me.
I have tried all kinds of methods i.e. new apn settings, changing the data from *#*#4636#*#*, changing it from within the phone. Every time it shifts to H+ for 3-5 minutes and then I completely lose data and network connection. If I select GSM/WCDMA Auto then it skips 3g or H+ and goes to Edge.
I saw people talking about 'rogers patch' or editing build.prop to disable LTE radio but was unable to find proper steps to do so. Can anyone list out the steps or guide me to turn off LTE Radio. Thanks in advance.
Any suggestions?
If you are on CM10.1, go to Settings=>Wireless &Networks->More...->Mobile networks->Network Mode and select the one w/o LTE. If you're going to edge, it might indicate that you don't have good 3g service or good coverage in your area? Alternatively, there is a LTE toggle in the quick settings panel, although I'm not sure if CM10 has it.
Hope this helps.

I have tried this and yes it it goes to edge from H+ after a few minutes. I am pretty sure that my area has a very good 3G or H+ network cause my friend has a nexus 4 and H+ works perfectly on her phone and that too in my house.
What APN are you using? If you're using ATT LTE (pta), try wap.cingular or vice versa.
I have both APN settings and both have the same exact problem.

[Q] OnePlus One LTE BAND selection?

Is there a way to see and change the LTE BAND that my phone is on? Rogers support aws, 2600, 700. So I was wondering if I could manually change between them. The S5 has that option in the hidden menu, so I'm hoping I could do the same on this one.
Thanks.
The phone choose the band himself, if he don't find bands authorized by your phone company, he can't use them.

That's as far as you can get in telling it what network to operate on. It won't let you select specific bands (at least not stock). Mine was set to 'TD-SCDMA, GSM and LTE' out of the box (international version) and since I don't plan to use my phone in China anytime soon, it didn't make sense for the phone to waste resources searching for a TD-SCDMA (China's homebrew 4G) signal. Haven't noticed much improvement to my LTE signal though, still the weakest radio I've seen in a 'flagship' in a while.
Thanks.
I am also on Rogers.
Does that mean when I am on the phone, it will revert to EDGE instead of 3g by using the LTE-edge setting?
I have major issues with reception on this phone.
LTE Works Fine but the 3G/H+ signal is awful, absolute disaster on this phone. It is extremely, extremely weak. And I lose coverage often and over 50% of the times my calls go straight to voicemail because Rogers uses 2g/3g for calling. The phone can't drop back to 2G or 3G in time to receive calls when on LTE
Rly frustrating. Have tried playing with all the settings.

I'm having issues with 3G H+ too. Dont know its CM issue or not coz I had nice H+ signals on Color OS...
Can't even use internet data. most of the time network drops after using internet for a bit.. Network just suddenly gone and after that it comes back with no internet. Internet comes back online after a while...
Really worried.. and annoyed coz can't seem to find any solve for this. Even Mahdi rom had this issue..
